I'm late, sorry. I need to work on getting it here on Monday. I cheated on Friday and I paid for it.
225 was my weight this morning.
My wife's work is having a chili cookoff this weekend in Dallas and we are attending. I am determined not to have chili, I will be bringing some low fat snacks to eat while I'm there. I've also done quite a bit of walking lately (walked 2.7 miles during lunch yesterday and 3 miles last night), and think I'll be doing a lot of walking while I'm there.

Hello everyone,
Bert (pbf4326e) and Christine (monkey809) who are running this challenge are really busy this week, and have asked me to post the weekly update for them.
I just had a really fun time reading through all the posts for the week, and would like to make some comments about them.
In the past I've not wanted to talk about those who have dropped out of a challenge because I thought it was negative, and that it could be discouraging. But after reading all your comments, I feel differently about it now. I think it's a tribute to those who have stayed in!
Since the challenge started, we have dropped 21 from the list, 10 of the 21 this week. Challenge members are dropped after not reporting in for three weeks. 7 have not reported in the past 2 weeks, and another 5 for 1 week. (Anyone dropped will be put right back on if they post again!)
But on the positive side, 33 of us are still going strong!
While I've improved so much from the worst days of my eating disorder, it has been my habit to yo-yo between goal weight -- or near it -- and around 20 pounds overweight. To some of you 20 pounds may not seem a lot, but because I work out and like to be in great shape, 20 pounds of fat is a tremendous amount for me.
Since I started this website in 2000, I have never done so well as I have since I started in these challenges last fall. My weight went up at Christmastime, but I'm convinced that it was these challenges that kept it from going higher, and got me right back on track in the New Year.
In the past, it was my practice to go off my healthy way of eating and eat poorly and not work out for months at a time. Then I'd work to get back in shape, and start the cycle all over again.
This time since I joined the challenges beginning this fall has been the best I've done in a very, very long time.
I'm sure the challenges are helping many of you in the same way, and I am especially proud of those of you who are posting that you have actually increased your weight. I'm sure that your interest and drive and HONESTY will work for you in the long run and you will meet your goals.
On a related subject, I just wrote a topic entitled The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail and I'd like to invite you to read it and comment if you'd like. Though I'm sorry that the 21 who have already dropped out won't see this because I think it might help them the most.
Thanks to Bert and Christine for running this challenge, and I'm so proud of all of you who are sticking it out!
Best wishes for success,
Peter

I guess I have hit the dreaded plateau!
I am at 167.4, up a pound from last week.
Peter,
Even though I am not losing right now, I do not want to gain (I do not really consider 1# a gain), so there is no way I am dropping out, you guys keep me focused!

Okay, it is Friday. Friday is my official weigh-in day, so I am trying to be more consistant and post on Friday's.
This challenge has really helped me step it up and get off my plateau. I have basically been approximately the same weight since last July. It is my own fault. I quite writing down all the food I was eating. The good news is that I found that I could maintain my weight. I am usually going up or down in weight and not staying the same, so, that is an accomplishment.
During my plateau I maintained my regular workouts at the gym - at least 4 times per week - sometimes 5. I have increased my cardio and the amount of weight I lift. I dropped almost 10% in fat, even though my weight stayed the same. However, my BMI is still too high and the pounds must go down.
Since joining the challenge, I have really stepped up the intensity of my workouts. I have been journaling my food and the results have been amazing. I have now busted through my plateau!
It has been a struggle with some ups and downs since this challenge started. But, I love to come on this forum and read how everyone is doing. It is such an encouragment to keep going.
You guys keep me looking at the big picture. If I stopped now, where would I be a year from now? I would probably weigh more! So what if it takes a long, long time to get the weight off. I will always be better off a year from now if I try to stick to my goals. I started this journey 12/16/2005. That is quite a long time ago. I have had times of rapid weight loss, times of gradual weight loss, times of weight gain and long plateaus, but today I am down 44.5 pounds!
So everyone - Keep up the struggle!
This weeks stats:
Start weight of the challenge - 185
Goal weight of the challenge - 167
Today's weight - 171.5

Laura and anjan,
Wow! Two great posts.
My body fat percentage has dropped from 24 to 18 so far, or 6%. This reading is actually more important to me than my weight because my goal is to lose fat, not weight. I am adding muscle so the weight doesn't go down so fast.
Well, I've lost 20 pounds, from 194 to 174 during these challenges.
BTW, I always figured that my Tanita home scale, which shows both weight and body fat percentage, probably wasn't that accurate with the percentage reading. But I like it anyway to see the relative change.
However, I tried the little hand-held tester at the gym and got the same reading! So maybe it is fairly accurate.
When I was younger and ran all the time, I was at 10%. But I'm 61 now and we my body reacts very differently to weight gain and loss.
Years ago I'd be plump all over, then lose it all over. Not I get the fat around my waist, and when I'm losing weight my face gets very thin and my cheeks hollow and I get comments about looking too thin. Even with the fat hanging on my waist.
My advice to you: Don't get old!

Thanks for the info on your scale, my reads body fat as well, and when I bought it, in November, my weight was 185 and my body fat was 32.4%. That is about 60lbs of fat!
As I posted above, my weight is 167 and now my body fat is 28.5% - that is about 48 lbs of fat. That is a 20% change in fat compostion, though and only a 10% change in weight!
It is still kind of weird, because I have lost about 18 pounds. I hope too much is not muscle. I do resistance training, so here is hoping.
My goal is about 25% fat and 150 lbs, ultimately.

I should think if you keep track of your resistance you should be able to judge if you are losing or gaining strength. That's how I tell.

Too late Peter, I turned 20 yesterday ;) Woke up this morning wrinkles and everything. Haha.
Just thought I'd pop by during my long weekend away. Not sure what my weight is, or my calorie intake, the daily tracking will commence again on Tuesday when I return home. I certainly don't think I've overdone it, so I hope to have maintained. I feel the skinniest I have ever felt, which is thrust boldly in my face as I basically have a wall of mirror in my old bedroom back here at my parents! [Built in wardrobe, ceiling high mirror doors...] I still have that 'large' self-image burnt into my brain, even though I'm not there quite yet.
You all have such sensible and good outlooks on this whole weight-loss thing. It's great and really inspiring, with those attitudes you are sure to get there in the end, and stay there. :D
So, my weigh in will be late, Tuesday morning. As I don't want to confuse things by using my mum's scales.

Hello
Checking in this week - still the same old 122 - I seem to be stuck. I have enjoyed reading the posts especially those with lots of good tips. I plan on hanging in there - if there's another challenge I will most likely join - this has been a good way to keep on track and even though I'm not losing - I'm not gaining either so that's a plus. No ticker since I haven't lost a pound.

Peter's cracking me up. I'm reporting early because I've been busy and not consistent about checking in here. Today's weight 191. It doesn't look like I'm going to reach my goal by early May but I will be there.....
Lots of inspiration to be gained by a lot of you folks. Keep up the great work....any word on next challenge?

2lbs down which makes me 165lbs and halfway there. OK so maybe I'm not going to make my target weight but I've still lost. Anyway I think if I had set a higher target weight, say 165lbs, I don't think I'd have lost the 5lbs so I think for me it's a case of "aim for the moon and if you miss the stars will get hit". I've also found that making sure I chew everything properly is helping as it takes longer to eat a meal and so I feel fuller quicker, having actually eaten less

0 lbs. but I honestly learned so much from this challenge. I'm realizing that stress affects my eating habits. When I'm super-stressed I turn to food and it's this crazy all-night insatiable eating. Sad, but true. Now, I have to learn what to do when this happens again. I'm already changing jobs to reduce the stress, so that's a good thing. So,in a nut shell, even though not much was lost in this challenge, some self-knowlege was gained.

Something scary is happening! I am gaining weight like Crazy. I do know I weighed myself at an unusual time. At 10 at night after eating all day(including a foot long sub), but my weigt was at 127.6. I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning. I am now scared of the scale and to be quite honest, didn't eat any healthier.
So I started at 125, went down to 123 and up the almost 128. I am very freaked out and am almost wondering if I am ever going to be thing again. But oh well, I am going to start fresh this week. I seem to say that everyweek, but I am going to start my eating journal again, and I am going to once again attempt to but carbs out for 7 days. Wish me luck!
Good Job to all of you who stayed in the challenge, whether you have lost, gained or stayed the same, you are all still trying and that's what matters!!

| I would also like to add that my work does NOT help in my dieting. The owner buys all this stuff from Costco and puts it in the kitchen so all that happens here besides work is eating. I stuff my face all day and to be quite honest hate my job. I wonder if that is why I have been gaining weight...

Finally down a half pound to 128. It doesn't look like I'm going to make my goal, but I'm aiming for below 125 now. That would make a ten pound loss since the beginning of the year!

I'm up a little, but considering all the covered dish meals I have been eating lately, plus some eating out because of other things we have been doing I think 174 is reasonable. I also haven't drank any water for about 3 days. That will make quite a difference as well.

missfit - I love how you are keeping such a positive attitude despite the lack of weightloss, it's so inspiring! I was going through the same issue and not losing weight but once I learned how to manage my stress I got back on track, and have seen awesome results since then. I know the same will happen for you

Good morning,
Even though I am still in the abyss, I didn't gain this week. A minor miracle I am grateful about.
I am in the midst of family events (and will be for the next two weekends) that trigger my need to anesthetise my feelings. You would think after almost 10 years of therapy I would be able to manage these encounters.
This is not an excuse for not taking care of myself it is just that I really need to recognize that little girl that still feels that childhood panic.
The next two weekds could be an opportunity for more healing, I wish I felt more confident about that thought. By the way, I really appreciate this website. When I struggle so it helps me when I write about my demons. Thanks for listening!

I can easily weight 5 pounds more at night than first thing in the morning. You have to be consistent about when you weigh. And since we don't eat and drink consistently, it's best to do it in the morning.
I think I will post a topic on how and when to weigh.
As my monkey says... "Hang in there!"

I've seen some posts that concern me where people seem to have become upset about daily fluctuations in weight. In response, I wrote:

Also I've been helped so much by the accounting to you all necessary to remain a member of these challenges that I'm excited to keep them going. And I'm setting up the next one for May and June!

Bert,
That's great about your cholesterol!
I'm thinking of having mine tested privately as I don't want to wait for the doc next fall for my annual test I do with him. My eating is being greatly influenced by ETL now so it should be much improved.
When I first tried ETL it dropped over 100 points in 9 weeks!

Never had to report a gain before, what a horrendous feeling it is. I'm not surprised by it at all to be honest, but it was the first time I visiting my parents/brother since Christmas and I really wanted to just enjoy it and not worry about food. I didn't overdo it, but nibbling on birthday chocolates can't have helped! Got some exercise in there too. SO here's hoping it's just a bit of water weight. Physics diet tells me I'm still on track.
126.2lb 0.8lb gain.

OK, everyone. No loss this week. Still at 209 but I'm happy about my cholesterol and the other stuff.
Tough weekend. I was with my men's group from church and it would have been worse if I didn't take on the cooking responsibilities (for the most part). They fought me tooth and nail when we did the shopping. I relented on getting regular pasta over whole grain but I won the battle for marinara sauce and chicken italian sausage.
I made blue berry pancakes on Saturday but with reduced fat Bisquick and skim milk. Sugar free syrup and chicken breakfast sausage rounded out the meal. Yes, I had butter.
For dinner I cooked the mushrooms in butter, red wine and garlic. The other guys took the main course and we had filet mignon wrapped in bacon. They held a gun to my head and made me eat it. I had no choice. Then they threatened me with the safety of my first born and made me eat chocolate and butter pecan ice cream.
Oh the humanity!!!
So, considering I stayed the same, a good weekend all in all. Back on the horse again.
