This is the place to put forth our challenge questions and chat about our day, so that we can just post our weights on the challenge page, so that DG doesn't have to wade thru so much to keep track of our progress, Hope this works for everyone. You can even test your tickers here if you have to.............
Hope everyone finds this a good idea.

| Good idea, Judy. Going through all that "stuff" to obtain data for the chart had to be a nightmare for DG. This way we can still have all the rest to read when we have time........the best of both worlds, so to speak. THANKS

You are all welcome. I do owe the cudo's though to another forum I belong to for some medical stuff, we had one site to post all of our surgery updates to (progress) and another for just chit chat, we were such a chatty group. It seems like this challenge is a chatty group too.........which is great because it is always helpful to be able to spill the little things and ask questions when trying to do something that requires support. So thanks to that medical support group forum........not sure I can mention name. Peter?

Oh my I can't believ how many people that are invloved. This is great. I do like having the seprate forum for chatting only. I do have a question if any one can answer it or give onpion on this. I lost 6lbs. last week and I weighed myself and gained 2 lbs back but I am still trying to stick to my eating habits as last week but I did add a little more exersizing. Is this typical or what could I be doing wrong?

Hey Kimmie,
Don't worry about a thing. It could be due to water retention (keep drinking 6 to 8 glasses a day) or you may be building muscle. Muscles weigh more than fat, but in the long run muscles burn up more calories. Have you tried taking your measurements, because you might find the difference there really motivating.

Definitely don't worry! One thing we all have to remember is, even though the challenge is only eight weeks, we want to make our changes permanent and even those lucky people who have never had a struggle with weight have days/weeks when they scale may bounce around a bit. Even if you gained two pounds back, you're still four pounds to the good, and that is something to be proud of - not to mention the fact that you're eating better and being active. Keep up the good work, Kimmie!

I just want to thank DG for organizing the challenge and all of her hard work and Judy for coming up with this page, and to the moderator for seemlessly tying the two threads together.
Very nice to have all of the weights (progress) on the first post of the challenge, PLUS the link to this thread. Pretty cool guys, pretty cool!
Thanks a million!

Good Morning Everyone:
What a fantastic start to the New Year Challenge. Thanks so much to all who did the work. Took me a bit to find this new forum, a fantastic idea.
I know I am proud of my 2 lb loss. Eating healthy is where it is at and we must expect fluctuations in our daily weigh in. When we slip up, forgive ourselves and move on with a new day. Best of luck everyone. Thanks again.

Great idea to start this other forum for the chit chat. So here is my chit chat...
I took my very 1st ever Tae Kwon Do class today. Luckily I have done a lot of Tae Bo and Turbo Jam which made many of the moves familiar. I was very please with how I did my very 1st class. The instructor even asked me if I'd done it before. I love the toning and stretching at the beginning. I had NO idea I could do a backbend. Less than a month ago I couldn't. The only drawback to the class was that I was absolutely the only adult. Every other student was between 4-10 years old. Needless to say I felt a little silly (I'm 35). And there was one 4 year old girl ,whose mom just drops her and and leaves, that was hanging on me the whole time making it very difficult. I went to a late afternoon class and they told me the evening classes have more adults but I hate to mess up my eating schedule and go right at dinner time. I'm on a 2 week trial so I'll just have to see how it goes.

This is great, we can have fun on this forum and chat and ask questions, be supportive, helpful and just silly if we want and then DG and Peter don't have to wade thru everything to get our progress, it will make updating the weight loss so much easier for everyone................Everyone seems to be doing great, lets not just make it a new years resolution but a lifestyle change. I need this more or as much as anyone.

Hi Kimmie,
Hang in there. You won't quit. Lifestyle changes take time and if you approach it that way rather than a short term weight loss, you'll do it.
I'm glad you're doing this for your 14 year old son. All to often the media and our culture says "It's my turn and I'm doing this for me." It's not really about us. It's about being healthy and living long for the people we love.
I've been married 33 years and I want to be around for my wife, kids and grand kids (I have one grandson and just learned last night I'm going to be a grandpa again!!! )
I have an obligation to them to be a fit as I can be. This perspective has really helped me to stay focused and dedicated.
Be strong,
Bert

I have a bit of a concern I was wanting to address, just looking for some input, and since you are all my WLC buddies, I thought I'd ask you (though I may just ask this in "General discussion" if I don't get responses.
I've been essentially eating roughly the same foods since September 4th, when I started my diet, for breakfast and lunch (dinner has the most variety), which is great because I am the type of person that, if I love a food, I can eat it over and over again. But my point is I consume roughly the same amount of calories (and fat) for each meal, and besides the first week of feeling hungry, I've been fine with that. I eat about 1200-1300 calories daily, and it's helped me to lose 46lbs so far!
However, the last few days, I've had a serious issue. Around 2-2:30 every afternoon, I start to get shakey, a little lightheaded, and short of breath. And hungry! I work in a diabetes center so every time I've had this happen I've checked my blood sugar because I do have hypoglycemia, but it's always been fine. So I wind up having to eat something, and only then do I feel better.
I was under the impression that losing weight would decrease my calorie needs, rather than making me hungrier? Seems to make no sense. I don't know what to do about it. I try to stay well hydrated. Nothing has really changed, but the fact that eating something makes me feel better tells me it's probably nothing more medically serious. I plan on asking the dietician when I get a chance (she's had patients all day) but just wanting input.

Hi astralweeks,
Peter is right. You don't need us amateurs diagnosing what could be happening.
For myself, I've noticed that sometimes, particularly after a hard cardio workout in the morning, that if I bend over, am sitting or squating, and I get up too quickly, I get really light headed. I've been on blood pressure medicine for several years and my doctor told me last year that if I ever got to the point where I lost a good deal of weight my pressure may go down on it's own and I could get light headed and a bit dizzy when I did the aforementioned things because I was still on the meds.
It doesn't happen often but enough for me to notice. I'll go back for my physical in April and we'll see what's what. My doctor doesn't know I've been losing weight so I can't wait to see his reaction.

Me too! I lost 3 lb almost overnight, and now it's not moving.
However, I'm hitting the gym hard after being off over a month so I'm regaining a lot of muscle. When I do this, I have to go more by my appearance, or measure fat and I'm too lazy.
BTW, as I understand it, it's normally very hard to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. But it's not impossible to regain lost muscle and lose fat at the same time, and I can attest to this.
Of course when I lose fat the muscle shows more and I look stronger, but my strength improves so it must be true.
Whether you are relatively muscular or not, remember that the goal is never to lose weight. It's always to lose fat!

I have been all over the place this week as far as my weight goes... Cant wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Started on Monday 153. I was at 147 at one point and 156 at another. Today I am sitting at 150 so we will see what happens tomorrow.
I always weigh myself in the morning before eating or drinking anything.
Hitting the weights hard today and then going for a nice run since I am off of the bike for the next 6 weeks...
Hope everyone has a good weigh in tomorrow.

maybe get a blood test done to make sure you dont have anemia or a thyroid imbalance i know (from experience) both can cause those symptoms. hope you feel better soon!

Well, I have finally dropped a pound. Three years ago I lost thirty pounds, and I did it in five months. I was very healthy about it, but so rigid that I could not keep it up when I started working full time.
So this time I am making changes in stages. First I began to make exercise a more consistant part of my life. I learned that I had to make time for it, no excuses for not getting it in four times a week. I mix it up a little to keep things more interesting, but truth be told, I am alway happy when I am done for the day.
Now, stage two, tracking what I eat. I am aiming for 2100 calories in a day. I see plans that cut people down to 1500 a day, but I think that eating the amount of calories required for the weight you want to be is more practical, even if it takes longer.
The interesting news is that, although I am only down a pound in two weeks (the ticker is my total weight loss from November), I have lost my muffin top! So I guess I have gained some muscle! I am aiming for 150 pounds, but getting down to 160 will put me in a healthy range again.

Morning,
I really appreciate this website.
It helps me be accountable and I like that. The Monday morning weigh in is motivational. But the other sites; the Colories Burned Calculator, Food Calories & Nutrition Calculator and the converter also help.
In my head, I know what "you are what you eat" means but I think I am beginning to fimally understand the true nature of that statement.
And all I see and hear is exercise, exercise, exercise. So, I do that also. It is tough to get going but once I get going I feel good. And when I stop I feel great! (It means I'm done!!) LOL!

What have you used it for?

Hi Peter,
I stumbled across a TV show produced on our cable's BBC channel about proper nutrition. They show before/after pictures of the people that have stayed with the eight week nutritional plan. Impressive...
I ordered a cookbook from the show's nutritionist. When the book arrived I found the measurements are in UK grams and milliliters. DUH! Never thought about our differences.
Using your converter allows me to prepare the recipies! I was thrilled. It is so useful!

Sorry to hear about your cook book problem. It may interest you to know that when we joined european union/common market, they wanted us uk to change to Kilos grams, change to kilometers per hour and get rid of the great british pint of beer to litres.
Over the years we the brits have fought back and now we can show pounds and ounces in shops alongside kilos and grams and they never changed the mph or pint.
I have just got two new cook books one shows both and the other just metric
All the best artist john

My goal is to loose 61 lbs, not by February of course, but by the end of next year. I believe if I don't set really high expectations, it will be easier to reach. I am also keeping everything in a journal both the foods I eat and the exercise I accomplish. It seems to help a lot.

| Have any of you experienced this (happens to me too often)? I am feeling very very good about my eating and workouts - so far I've dropped almost four pounds since our first weigh in on the 1st. Right now, work is very stressful - I am a grants writer for a university and I have not one or two, but four big writing projects that are very difficult, time consuming, and worse - due very soon (see how I am? I should be writing right now, but my brain needed a ten minute break). Anyway - it seems that when I'm stressed, despite doing things right (keeping calories between 1200 - 1300, burning 500 - 700 calories a night in the gym, drinking LOTS of water, journaling, etc), the scale either gets stuck or inches up a few tenths. I know, at this very moment, I am retaining water - I see it in my hands as I type this, feel it under my eyes. So, is there a connection between stressing out and being a puffball? If I can just get through January, things should ease up for a month or two....
