Hi Everyone, I need help.  I always join the challenges, am motivated for about half a day and then give up.  I have gained so much weight that I just don't want to go outside anymore.  My clothes are so tight and I am sick and tired of sitting down and seeing a roll of fat hang out.  I so desperately want to loose weight, but when it comes time to eat I tell myself to eat what I want and enjoy it.  I tell myself  that there is more to life then beauty and that there is a lot more to a person than their looks, it's ok to get fat.  Well yes, looks aren't everything, but I am so depressed.

I remember when I was younger, I looked really good.  I was 103 lbs and people noticed me.  My husband loved it.  Now that I have gained 26 pounds over the last 6 years, my self esteem is in the drain.  My husband doesn't like my weight gain and he has admitted that is the reason why our intimate relationship has slowed down.  He's just not attracted to the rolls of fat on my body.  I HATE myself.  I need some advice on how to stick to my diet.  I am sick and tired of being over-weight.  Please help me!

jjodi I've been losing motivation too, but I just picked up a new schedule, I'm busier and falling into bad eating habits because of it. I need to stop it! The end of the challenge is in sight and I am not going to quit before I get there! My goal of 20 pounds is a motivator, and as soon as I can fit back into the next size down, I'm going shopping!! I'm not a huge clothing fan, but there are certain items that I put off buying because I didn't want to admit how big I was getting.
chinkiri I'm glad you are dealing with the cheese thing well. As for my weight loss. I am certain that first chunk was water weight. As for the rest of it. Just mainly what everyone hears but we don't want to do. No fast food. (Until I slipped today.) I traded most of my soda pop for green tea and water. My veggie intake went way up and I am counting all my calories and working out. It was easier when I wasn't as busy.
monkey809 The trickiest part is liking yourself. It helps if you have good support from friends or family. People who will alway love you and support you no matter what you look like before you start a diet. My advice is start small. 26 pounds is do-able if that's what you want to do. 103 sounds awfully skinny to me, but I don't know what your BMI is either. One step at a time. Maybe just cut out soda, increase your veggie intake, or eat off of a dessert plate instead of a full sized plate. Do your own 21 day challenge. When those 21 days are over. Add something else. I find that the diary and diet buddies on CPH helps keep me accountable and I track everything. There is so much support here. pick a workout that works for you. I love to walk, but everytime I made a resolution to do so- I came up with excuses. It was too windy or cold or dark. So now I have videos so I can workout at home. No driving, no being outside, no excuses. Whatever you decide to do look for the positives in life and a good support system. I am certain there are many here who would be happy to help!

It is 12 degrees and I have been hibernating today.  The wind is creating whiteout conditions ~ which is pretty to watch.  However, my desire is to complete my hibernation by eating everything in the kitchen that isn't nailed down.   LOL!

I hit a plateau the last two weeks which is discouraging.  While on the Internet looking for inspiration, I found a website that took into account your age, activity level, height, weight and calcuated the number of calories needed to maintain a certain weight.

I entered my current weight (150) and the total caloric intake for a day is:  1547.  I have been averaging 1350 - 1600.  I am too close to my maintenance calorie intake.  Dang, there are disadvantages to being age 60!!!

Now I need to decide if I want to lower my caloric intake.  I already exercise about 5 days a week ~ typically burning 500 calories.  Working out makes me hungry, if I cut back on food I will then start to feel resentful.  I make sure I eat healthy foods and keep a log of my calorie intake.

Well, I guess I just wanted to whine.  I will keep on the path to wellness and lose these last 5 pounds eventually.

Hi Skinnieme,

I know what you mean about the plateaus.  What a drag.  Being housebound doesn't help either when all you want to do is ear.  Hany tough.

What is that web site you mention that let's you figure what calories you need to have to maintain a weight?  I'd be interested in that.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Bert

I made my goal weight for the challenge of 184.

Actually, I was 183.5 for three days, then 184.5, now for my weigh-in 183.

I just love losing weight slowly... when I have the patience to do it that way.

I here 'ya, man.  I've lost weight in the past quickly and it all came back.  This is the first time I've done it slowly and I'll keep it off as I'm really developing new habits.

I'm 3 away from the challenge goal.  I should be able to do it.
