Hi All,
Some of you may remember me as Elliptical lover! I am getting married in June, and Decided to change my name!
I gained quite a bit of weight, more than i originally started out at this site. However, I did re-injur my neck, so I have been battling lots of medications, sleeping all the time, massive amounts of pain, and the inability to do certain exercises.
I want to make a new years resolution. I want to lose about 55 lbs. I am currently 179.6 & I would like to be 125. I would like to lose the weight by my wedding day 06-07-08.
This gives me 5 months to do it in, which means i must lose about 10 lbs per month to make my target or close to it.
So, the first leg of my challenge:
Weigh 170lbs or slightly less by February 1, 2008

I will do this by working out on the elliptical and working with my physical therapist on what else i can do. I will also be cooking my own food at home, chosing health meals with lots fo fruits and veggies with proper portions. I will eat about 4-6 times a day and limit myself to 1200-1500 cals/day.
Lets see how i do!!!!
EL! Oh wow! I was just thinking about you the other day...welcome back! I guess I can't call you EL anymore though...oh well. Anyway, so nice to see you again! (*see? I guess not...) Are you starting a new diary?

Thanks Muddy and Lucky,
I've gotten a lot of suggestions amd input from many people on this site. I'm so glad I came here. I really appreciate the feedback.
I do have a bike but I live in Wisconsin and it's 3 degrees. Something I don't want to be doing right now. I do have a home gym that I need to get back to using. I'm planning on working out as soon as I get off the computer.
NO SNACKS FOR ME TONIGHT I have to start somewhere and tonight is the night.

This seems like such a great group of people! I would love to join. Just got on the scale and it is at 288. I would love to lose 20 pounds by the end of February. I got started right before Christmas and made a conscious effort not to "graze". I believe that constitutes a lot of my calories. That seems to be working so far as I was 295 on Christmas Eve. I realize the first several pounds of weight loss is fluid, but I'll take it!
Nice to see you and hopefully share in your victories!
God bless!

I'm working off the very last bit of "muffin top" this new year. It's taken 2 1/2 years to work off 20 lbs. I'm starting Jan. 2 at 122 and expect 4 lbs less will do the trick! 118 is the goal for the end of February.

Please add me to your list, I was at 220, my goal is to be at 210. That is 10 lbs. I know that I am pushing it, but, maybe if I keep pushing it I will loose more than just 1 lb.

Asuwish,
Your post is very encouraging to me! I started getting serious about weight and fitness a year ago when my mother was diagnosed with diabetes. I've lost about 13 pounds total, with 10-20 to go. (I'd love to lose 20 more, but don't know if that's realistic. For the challenge, my goal is to lose 8, at 1 lb./week.) It's just encouraging to me that it took you 2 1/2 years to lose 20 pounds. Some days I'm so discouraged because it just doesn't seem to come off. But I figure if I quit trying, it's just going to get worse. Your story is an encouragement to just stick with it. Thanks for sharing and good luck with the last four!

My weigh was 255 Jan. 1st. I will weight 240 by February 29th. I will do this by:
- Drinking 8 glasses fo water each day
- Exercising at least 30 minutes everyday
- Stay within my calorie limit between 1200 - 1630 calories each day.
- Track and journal my progress.
Good luck to all the participants. Together we can do it!

Fleabe,
13 lbs in a year is awesome. You can do this. Let me know how it goes.
Getting the email newsletters from caloriesperhour and keeping a food/exercise diary (although I thought this was a drag at first) have helped me enormously. If I had started the diary sooner it wouldn't have taken me so long! Sneaking a cookie when making my kid's lunch didn't seem like a big deal before but when I have to write it down - whoa! Sometimes I feel like a rabbit with all the vegetables I'm supposed to be eating and I never want to look at another spinach leaf again. I'm cutting sugar out of my diet AGAIN starting tomorrow (darn holiday chocolates). A week of that is always worth a pound off the middle.
Cheers,
asuwish

DJ of texas, you are correct muscle burns fat and it's frustrating as it also weighs in....so the scale is deceptive. Measurements are good and I wish I had done them when I started 30 pounds ago. Oh well I have done them for this challenge. Exercise is a great way to build muscle. Take a good before picture and measure, the difference is astonishing. It's not the only way though, look how much some people can do by just walking.....
good luck to all on this challenge and thanks to the DG and Doll for putting it out there.

January 1, 2008, 163 pounds. I lost 32 pounds in 2007, and plan to lose 32 pounds in 2008, 13 of those pounds by February 28 and 29.

OK! Count me in. I need the incentive of a challenge. My short term goal is 10 pounds this month. I think that is about 2.25 pounds per week. Is that a healthy beginning? Long term weight goals have never worked well for me so I am replacing them with several attainable short term ones. At 54 years and 209 pounds, and in the midst menopause, maybe the "baby" steps of smaller goals will be work for me. Hmmm....Maybe 10,000 "baby" steps a day will work for me! Wish me luck!

Hi, All! I am new to this site, and would like to join the weight loss challenge for Jan & Feb 2008. I'm a little scared, because I've never been this heavy in my life, never had a problem dropping the pounds when necessary. However---midlife struck, and so did the weight!
My current weight is 212.5, and I hope to at least break that 200 mark by the end of February. I am setting my goal for 20 pounds in 2 months, or as close to it as I can come.
Good luck to all!

Just checking in...
I go today to get placed in a tobacco cessation program. While I need and want so much to quit dipping, I am worried about the weight gain that may come with it. That is the main reason I have signed up for this board and challenge.
I should be on the patch and whatever else they give me tonight and will see how the munchies goes. I am not too worried about eating more since I have been very strong willed at not slipping. I also plan to stick to my workout program which is pretty intense so I should be ok.
Has anyone else quit tobacco while losing weight? What were the effects? My main concern is that I will continue working out, continue eating the same and still have problems putting weight back on. Is this possible?
Since Oct I have went from 175 down to 153. I am trying to get in the best shape of my life and have packed on some muscle while losing the belly fat. I am almost where I want to be fat wise but still have a long way to go muscle wise. I dont want a set back but also dont want to keep putting this junk in my mouth. I have either smoked or dipped for 20 years. Not going to be easy to quit but then again losing weight has not been easy either.

Hi again!
I've lost 1-1/2 pounds since yesterday.
This forum really helps--and the ticker is fun, too. Nice to see that little butterfly move!!
C'mon girls!!
Let's work together and be into our bikinis by spring! For me, that's a joke, but just to put on a bathing suit, I'd be happy!!
P.S. I'm in Canada--cold--very cold--hard to get outside so it is tough to keep away from the food. I'll try to keep busy and keep my mind of that stuff. As a friend said to me
"A moment on the the lips--a month on the hips!!!"
That can help me sometimes!!

Good morning everyone! Yes, bitter cold outside today in Upstate NY - 19 degrees!
Muddyoldgoat, congratulations on going from 175 to 153 since October!! Can you tell me what kind of exercising and dieting you are doing? I'm currently at 174 and want to get down to my ultimate goal of 145. You did that weight loss in 3 months - that's awesome! Any tips you can give would be appreciated.
As far as quitting smoking, I don't smoke, but my sister did and she tried the patch and everything, but the only thing that worked for her was the new drug Chantix that you have to get prescribed for you. Just thought I'd let you know in case you have trouble with the patch. Good luck with it - you will be much healthier without smoking!!!
P.S. Does anyone know how to send a private message to someone? I got one, but I don't know how to send one if I wanted to contact just one member.
Thanks - have a good day everyone - a new day!!

Good luck Muddyoldgoat!
I quit by using the patch and, even though I did gain weight, (I ate everything in sight) my doctor always assures me that a few extra pounds isn't one-tenth as bad for you as using tobacco. Mouth cancer is no joke. I'm sure you won't gain since you already have a healthy exercise/diet program in place.
You might want to ask your class leader about nicotine gum. It might be better than the patch for a dipper. If not, use the patch along with lots of sugar-free regular gum.
In either case I'm sure you can do it -- it's the most preventable cause of death there is -- you owe it to yourself to quit!

I spent a lot of time yesterday reading about what I should do to begin the process of losing this weight and I kept hearing that I should take a deficit of so many calories per day in my diet, but honestly I didn't know how many calories that I was consuming to find out what I should set my daily total to. So this morning I was checking out MSN and came across an article about weight loss and began to read (anything to keep up this motivation) and came across this Weight Loss Calculator ( health.msn.com/weight-loss/weight-loss-calculator.aspx )
Based on your current weight and weight loss goal it gives a recommendation of how much to lose a week and how much time it will take to reach that goal. It also gives you a Caloric Intake Reduction recommendation to reach that goal where it estimates the number of calories you need for your daily energy needs (what you'd need to maintain at your current weight) and how many you should reduce to to meet your goal. I have been talking with the girl who cuts my hair and we are about the same size with the same goal and the program she is on recommends 1400 calories a day so that is about what I was estimating for myself and based on this calculator I found I am consuming over a 1000 extra calories per day. If I eliminate those 1000 calories a day that will put me at around a 2 pound a week weight loss.
Sorry for being so windy just sharing my excitement and it's always good to share resources!!

Hi summergirl - this website that we're on caloriesperhour.com also has weight loss calculators, and food calorie lists, etc. it's actually a pretty cool website if you look around a bit. I know there are so many things to pay attention to - do I cut calories? fat? sugar? carbs? It's frustrating sometimes.....Good luck to you!

summergirl - you're right CPH is great. I also like shape.com for workout ideas and recipes.
as my check in for today - I only had about 1000 calories yesterday - Not really trying to cut back that much, it just so happens that's what I ate. today I started with coffee (creamer is about 200 calories!) and a lowfat yogurt. grilled chicken salad for lunch. I didn't get any exercise in last night, I'm coming down with sore throat and earache of course now that I'm trying to exercise more often. I'd like to at least walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes tonight.
how's everyone else doing?

| Wow, that's a lot of calories for creamer, what are you using? I am a coffee drinker too and love the flavored creamers. I switched to the International Delight liquid. They have a fat free vanilla and it's only 30 calories per 1 Tbsp. Even the Vanilla that is not fat free is only 45 calories per Tbsp. In my desk at work I have a jar of Giant (store) brand powdered vanilla creamer and that is 50 calories per 3 teaspoons. If you're not set on what your using maybe look at a lower calorie option to give you those calories toward something else during the day.

| I use fat free hazelnut from coffeemate - it's only 25 cal per TBSP, but I use around 3 TBSP per cup (I use a larger than normal coffee cup), and I have one cup at home and one at work. It's my only real vice, I can't give it up!

coffee creamer is one of my weaknesses. Especially the original dry powder Coffee Mate. I love the stuff. Have tried to wean myself off it many times, but just can't do coffee black. I've tried the liquid creamers, all flavors, and they're ok, but I still go back to good 'ol CoffeeMate.
Call me wierd.....holy cow these fonts are big...sorry

I'd like to join for the accountability. My family is heading in to Phase II of our own biggest loser competition that my dad has orchestrated. The 7 of us lost 76 lbs in 10 weeks. It was great to see my family start a lifestyle transformation, but it was difficult for me because I don't have as much to lose and I got a little discouraged. I am dedicated to getting healthy whether or not I see my weight loss goal or not.
I weigh 147 now and my goal is 140.
