@ Ne: "Get some of that police tape "Crime Scene, Do Not Cross" and paste it across the kitchen door." --> love the idea! Wish I could get such tape over here in Europe!
By end of february we might already think of buying a new bikini...

Wow, look at all the new members........wonderful. Yes, DG you will have your hands fulll. Welcome all you new members, and as it was posted earlier DG is visiting family and will be back after the New Year. Come back to the sight on New Years day or the day before, and post your weight, and how much you want to loose or your goal weight at the end of the challenge and DG will make a post that shows everyone's weight and goals.
Oh yea by the way DG put me in please. Last challenge didn't help me lose, but, it did help me maintain, with the holidays, I lost sight of most things and now with the holiday's over, my focus is on me and my health and that means being at a healthy weight.
Hope you had a great time with your family and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I just joined and I can't wait to get started on this great challenge. I am still learning this sight and how to do things.
My name is Kimmie and I want to join this challenge.
I am determened to make this time work. Last year It took me a whole year to loose just 13 lbs. I realy want to loose at least that one month not a year. So I have my oldest son helping me. He's 15 and big in sports and staying fit and over the year instead of me teaching him he has touhgt me a lot. At least half of the weight I lost I did in the last 2 months. So I am determend this time to get my dreams to get back down to my goal weight by my birthday. Thank y ou my son and groups like this to help me also.

Hi Kimmie,
I think losing 7 or 8 lbs in 2 months is great! In fact, I'm going to make that my goal weight loss. It's realistic, it's fairly healthy and it's do-able! Last year I tried to lose a lot really quickly and I messed up my thyroid function! Losing weight too quickly only ended up making me fatter. Luckily, after giving up soya-laden products (including soya milk and diet shakes) and taking lots of fucus tablets (that's a type of seaweed with iodine), bananas, carrots and pineapples, I've finally got my TSH levels within normal range. It's been a really hard lesson, but I've learnt that you can't create a dream by jumping into a nightmare.
Happy, healthy New Year!

OK, I HAVE A QUESTON...I HAVE ABOUT 27 LBS TO LOSE (TOTAL) AND I'M IN THIS CHALLENEGE! I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH I SHOULD SET MYSELF UP FOR? I USUALLY TRY TO LOSE AROUND 2 LBS PER WEEK, BUT I KNOW I WILL HAVE A SLOW WEEK(S) IN THIS TIME FRAME (SOMEWHERE), I'M THINKING I SHOULD SAY....I'LL LOSE 15LBS. hOW DOES THAT SOUND? ANYONE THINK IT SHOULD BE MORE OR LESS? THANKS! MUAH!!!!!!!!!!

I think...that two pounds a week is optimistic, buy not impossible. I think it is great for your goal, I don't think it is dangerous, I would just say not to be disappointed if it is sometimes less than 2 lbs per week, cause like you said some weeks will be slower.
And if that wasn't a crazy run-on of a sentence, I don't know what is

As clarinetgurl suggested, let begin today.
Before, i'll introduce myself: I'm 23 yo. Female. 5'6''. Student. Always carried extra weight. Lost 30 lbs summer 2005, gained back 5 since.
I weight 82 kg (181 lbs) this morning (yeah, that's too much!) and at the end of Febuary I want to be at 77 kg (170 lbs). So, no fancy drinks with 400 cals in it tonight. I'll drink diet coke and white rhum and stay away from the buffet.
Happy New Year

| I like the idea of getting a one day head start - maybe that will keep me from over indulging tonight. I'm not a big drinker - probably won't drink at all tonight in fact. But I have a major problem with sweets, and just over eating in general. Maybe by keeping you all in mind today and on through the challenge, it will keep my head in the right place and my hand out of the goodies! Happy New Year everyone! -Cathy

Good Morning All.
I know we only have 2 months, but is losing 43 lbs. to much? My actually goal is to lose 73 lbs. if not more. My biggest fears is that I'm a lone on this as far as my family is concerned. I have NO WILL POWER. Motivation is what I need and I've don't have many people in my corner.

Angel44,
At 43 pounds for the next two months would be about 5 1/2 pounds per week. If you try to lose 73 lbs for the next two months that would be about 8 1/2 pounds per week, which would be slightly over 1 pound per day. Only way you could lose 1 pound per day is with a 3500 calorie deficit. If you were to try and lose 43 pounds per week you would have to have about a 2750 deficit. So either you'd just stop eating altogether or you'd be doing a lot of excercising to burn all those calories.
Either way, it's far too dangerous. If I were you I'd stick to 2 pounds per week. That would be about a 1,000 calorie deficit per day, quite a bit more reasonable.
I would recommend reading the Diet & Weight Loss Tips.

Angel-
This is just my opinion but I want to help you succeed.
If you set a reasonable goal, then immediate (2 months) success AND long-term success is much more likely. It is very hard to succeed for most people when you try to change yourself drastically.
1 to 2 lbs a week is a good goal. If you do more than that, GREAT! Why don't you set your goal as 10 #'s? I am setting mine by a target weight. So, I am 5'2" and weigh 141 and I want to get to 135 for my first goal. I was 148 last year.
Ready ??? Let's do it!

Katie and CCKat
I decided to set my goal for 10 lbs. to loose in the two months. This morning I weighied in at 224lbs. But my long term goal is to get down to 150lbs. This past year I have learned a lot and found out what is working for me. I love to watch The biggest looser and I have a son that is on my back about what I do. I did find out that eating 5 to 6 small meals dose work. So do try it. I wake up at 4am I have coffee before work I go to work and by 8 am I eat breakfast 11 is my lunch 2pm a snack go home and start dinner and and 7 pm is my last snack and nothing to eat after that and I try my best to drink lots of water. I do need to work harder on that. I am sorry I do talk to much. But I do love to share info. I am starting today.
Later guys

I've got 10 pounds to lose; hence the "Lucky Me." However, I've lost hundreds of pounds enroute to losing those 10! Up and down, up and down, that's the story of my life; and the older I get, the easier the "up's" are and the tougher the "down's" become.
I'm in!

CCKat,
I know I set my goals too high. I'll try 20 lbs. I know this is more reasonable and a goal that can be met. After February, I will keep going to reach my goal weight of 170 if not more.
Thanks for the input.

A new year...a new start...here's to each of us!
My beginning weight (which is my highest ever) is 252lbs
My short term goal weight (end of February) is 232lbs
That would be a loss of 20 pounds for the two months.
My long term goal would be back to 170 and maintain before EVER trying to lose another pound.
Thanks for keeping us on track!

My current weight is 210lbs
Goal is 202 lbs
My overall for the year is 175lbs, I have high cholesterol 6.8 in uk terms. I am interested to hear from others who have lowered their cholesterol via diet and not pills . Any tips please.

I try to lose a pound a week. Any more I find painful. I have dropped from 231lbs in last year. Moderation in all things. Good luck everyone and have a good new year!

Dear Artist John,
As an unexpected bonus to my diet, my cholesterol went down. This was without pills. I only lost 21 lbs so far, but my cholesterol went to normal levels. I hope you will be able to say the same at the end of the challenge.

Good Morning and Happy New Year:
Today is the day. Weight this morning 199 lbs. a 3 lb gain over Christmas and New Years. Not good...my short term goal is to loose those 3 lb by 10 of January and .5 to l lb a week after that. By the end of Feb 189 lbs.
I plan to do this by eating healthy. No junk food or very little. Minimum of 30 minute exercise every day. Walking outside when weather permits. I live in Northern Canada so the weather plays a big role.
Good luck to all and thanks for starting this challenge, together we can accomplish anything.

Good morning (it is still morning, isn't it?) and Happy New Year everybody. My first success: we stayed up very late last night, but I ate nothing after midnight except a glass of champagne. That was good for me, as I usually can't resist anything that is around.
This morning I weighed and was 134. My goal weight is 122. A couple days ago I only had 10 to lose; now it's 12. "Lucky Me" isn't quite as lucky as I thought. My real goal is not to just get down to 122, but TO STAY THERE. That's the tough part!
My plan is to eat only healthy food (except for one small bowl of ice cream each evening) and to exercise more than I usually do. So, now I'm off to get in an hour of biking before lunch. Good luck to everyone. It will be fun to hear from people every day.
Does anyone know how many there are of us?
