Patty wrote: A couple of years ago, someone came out with a book called, "French Women Don't Get Fat". One of the things the book mentioned was that the most pleasure derived from eating is in the first 3 bites. So, when I find myself craving sweets, I can eat just a few Hershey's Kisses. They are 25 calories each. Suck on them, savor them.
As I mentioned before, I also eat alot of microwave popcorn. I eat it almost every night. An entire bag of "light butter" popcorn has about 250 calories. Four oreos have about the same calorie content. Knowing I will be able to "engorge" myself with this snack enables me to eat less at dinner time.
At dinner time, I eat regular serving sizes of meat and potatoes/rice/etc. I usually cook 2 vegetables with dinner. With the vegetables, I fill my plate.
When eating a pasta dish or something that is not meat and potatoes, I try to eat a salad before dinner. This way, by the time I am sitting down to the rest of my dinner, I am more able to avoid over-eating.

Patty,

You sound like my wife.  She does the Hershey Kiss thing too.  I find little foil wrappers all over the house.  It must be working.  She's lost 30 lbs.!

Orville Reddenbacher has a 100 cal. microwave popcorn and it's great.

Thanks so much for the ideas.

I've been using yogurt with fruit., yes it is delicious.  I've never heard the pumpkin pie concoction - that sounds awesome! I have some pumpkin and the sweetner, Stevia, in my cupboards.  I'll be trying it later!  Such a healthy treat.  Thanks!

I am hard core when it comes to sweets and lack the ability of eating just "one" of the graham crackers.  It would be a problem for me along with the fat free cool whip.

I'm one of those, if it is in the house it gets "overeaten" addicts.  I'd like to grow out of that but I just white knuckle it mostly.

I appreciate your input, I feel better just naming the cravings!  :yum:

I miss some of the snacks too.  I'll try to have a Dannon Fit and Light (or something like that) yogurt for dessert at lunch and dinner.  They're only 60 calories.  You can also get a larger tub of it in vanilla and put some blueberries, strawberries or bananas in it.  Get the frozen if fresh isn't available.  Leave a premeasured amount in the fridge in the morning and just put it in a serving of the yogurt that night.  It's a nice rich treat.  It satisfies my craving for puddings.

Another dessert is taking a can of pumkin and adding pumpkin pie spice, Splena and a tad of salt.  Add the ingedients until you get the taste you want and let it sit in the fridge for an hour.  Very low in calories and satisfying if you like pumkin pie.  Of course, if you don't, it sucks.

Bert

Here's one of my favorite skinny snacks: take a whole chocolate graham cracker, and divide it in half. Put about a tablespoon of fat free cool whip on one, and make a sandwich out of it. Put it in the freezer and voila! you have a really tasty almost ice cream sandwich.

I weigh 125

My goal is to get down to 110, is that realistic?  I'm 5'1

Depends on whether you're talking about pounds or kilos!  If you're an ambitious exerciser you will make it real.

Ok, I want to jump in.   Just found this site the other day or else I would of sooner.   My weight as of January 2 is (drumroll please)...a fricken whopping 221.   My goal weight by February 29th is 190.    Whew, never thought I would say my goal is 190....that kinda makes me sick already.   I know it's alot, but who cares, it's still my goal.   I will work on a ticker thing when I get home from work.    As of today, I am down 6lbs!!!

Okay, so I weighed myself this morning after peeing ALL DAY AND NIGHT yesterday (must have been the excess coffee and being good about my water intake, or something in the NutriSystem), and I weighed 297.  That is down 4 pounds in one day!  So I'm thinking that at my size it is so easy to fluxuate pounds up or down in a day just due to water, that I won't have an accurate picture of my loss if I just weigh in once a week.  What do you think of an average weight for the week?  Would that give an accurate picture?  Anybody ever dealt with this?  -gina

Hey Everyone!  All 115+ of you in this challenge.

I've updated our list and sent it to Peter.  Hopefully, it will be posted soon so be on the lookout.  Please, please check it when it's posted.  I'm missing info on some of you...weights, goals, etc.  It may be because I overlooked it in the 25 pages of this link so far.......quite a chatty bunch.  It may be because you didn't post it.  Either way, if you are missing info by your name, please post it.  Thank you for being so patient as we get the list set up.

A gentle reminder:  This challenge forum is for posting weight in this challenge.  With so many of us participating, it can be rather cumbersome if we all started exchanging recipes or discussing other issues that can be found in other forums.   I know everyone is excited about this challenge and that's great, but it's only week one and the forum is 25 pages long.  At this rate, it will be over 220 pages by the end of February.  YIKES.

Suggestion:  I noticed some of you like to check in almost daily.  Please consider starting your own diary in the individual forum.  That way you can continue to post and it will remain current once this challenge is over at the end of February.

Many of you are off to a great start in this challenge.  I look forward to your continued progress.

I am down one pound, to 164, right on target for a pound a week.  This despite my husband's birthday this weekend and two surprise parties!

By the way, is there a way to post to this forum without hitting "reply"?  I feel bad that someone will get a notifcation when I'm not really replying to them.  That's happened to me a few times already, too.

I started a new topic in the challenges forum called  New Year New You Challenge Questions and Personal Exchanges.  Thought it would be a good place to chat and keep up on a daily basis and only come to the challenge on weigh in day to post our weights.  Hope all finds this a good idea.

I think it would help DG a lot with keeping track of our losses...........All in favor post at Diet & Weight Loss Forums, Groups, Challenges, New Year New You Challenge Questions and Personal Exchanges..................

Thanks,

Judy :grin::rose:

I forgot to post my beginning weight. 116.4. I would like to be back down to 110 by the end of February, so that's a weight loss goal of 6 and a half pounds in 8 weeks. That seems reasonable to me.

Hi there,

Great idea to put the results on the first page!  Much easier to find.  I did a little math there on the posting and as a group for the first week we have dropped something like 238 lbs!  That is in just one week.   Congratulations to all!

chinkiri,

This might seem rude, but I hope you don't mind if we translate your kg into pounds. Else it would make the results chart much too complex.

We'll use the Weights & Measures Converter on this site.

70 kilograms = 154.3 pounds

63 kilograms = 138.9 pounds

Thanks,

I am in for this challenge.

I am currently 268 pounds, and I'd be thrilled if I could get below 250 by the end of February.  So, let's make my goal a round "20" pounds, to 248.

Good luck to everyone.

I noticed my goal weight was not posted. My starting weight was 201. I hope to lose 6 lbs by the end of February and 36 lbs by the end of December. I thought 3 lbs per month loss should be very attainable. -Mar

Wow and WOW!  Still more new folks.  The more, the merrier!  It's a good thing Peter's retired.  You are, aren't you, Peter?  This challenge has taken on a life of it's own, not to mention all the new diaries in the forums.  It's exciting.

I'm not a big TV watcher, but I can see a big Oprah show on this website in the near future.  Wouldn't that be exciting???  Peter could fly in with his monkeys and invite some of our friends all over the world (Nir, voodoodoll, abnormalapathy, Scoobees, HisGal, hoofprints, and other oldtimers to the site) to tell what this site has done for them.  Count me in!

If you're new, post your starting weight and goal weight here.  Then each Monday, post your current weight.  We'll do the rest!

If you've been here since the start, make sure you post your current weight weekly.
