I can't believe how many there is of us doing this chalange. It is so great to see this great turn out. I did post last night but forgot to say how many lbs. I lost. I started at 224 and weighed in this morning at 220. So I lost 4 lbs.
Great job to everyone that is loosing and don't give up to everyone. We can all do this.
I noticed that during the week that I work I do a great job at sticking to my new way of eating. I have 2 breakes that I eat something small and healthy. Then on the weekend I never know when I get up and don't know what time i will be eating so some times I get 3 meals only and thats when I notice no improvement. I need to work on the weekends better.

Well, as I should have expected, since I was really using this weekend as my last chance to eat - FOREVER - I actually gained a pound and weighed in at 301.2 this morning. I started the NutriSystem today so this is my REAL start date! So far so good with the NS, btw, haven't felt hungry or deprived. We'll see how dinnertime goes...

I think I first set my goal at 140 lbs. but I changed my mind and would like to get down to 135... 1 lb lost so far! I hadn't really started my diet last week though cause I was still on break. Now I'll really get to it!

Hope my ticker works!

I managed a 2 pound loss, to 228. I'll take that and be happy. Just making sure I drink my water, only one soda a day, and eat more veggies, fresh if possible.

I started out at 178, weighed in at 175 so that is 3 lbs!!
My mini-goal for this week is to not eat in my car once - I find that if I find myself eating in my car, I am usually tired, stressed out and not aware of what I am consuming & usually what I am consuming is junk or fast food. So I am going to work on this - trust me it is hard since I spend a significant amount of my time in my car throughout the day.

Could someone tell me how to use the ticker as well, I think that's great? Thanks.
After the first week I'm down three pounds to 191. It would have been nice to wake up and have lost 50 pounds but that only happens in my dreams LOL.

A loss of 6 pounds! Thanks for all the encouragement--reading the posts in the evening has helped keep me out of the kitchen for a late-night snack!

| Off to a slow start, 271lb down to 270lbs. 1lb last week, this week will be better...Having a hard time getting re-motivated after the holiday's, however, buying 1 size smaller jeans this weekend helps.

So far I've just been drinking water almost constantly, limiting myself to no more than 1 diet soda a day, eating salad with lunch and dinner, and cutting out the sweets. (So that 6-lb loss is probably a bit misleading: I'm sure that too many diet Dr Peppers and too many sweets are why I gained weight over the holidays--I weighed 138 at the beginning of December!)
This week I'm going to commit myself to stepping 1/2 hour a day (last week I was a bit sporadic on that).

Oops, the day is almost over, and I just realized I haven't posted my weight from this morning. I was 131, down 3 pounds from the 134 I started with. I guess that's okay, but a little discouraging because my scale said 127 a couple days ago, and I know I haven't gained 4 pounds. Maybe the 127 was due to my "iffy" scale.

Unfortunately, my weight is the same. 252. No change in weight. But there's a change in my attitude and habits. I'm drinking water, I actually broke a sweat working out! Yeah, ME! Congrats to you all and best wishes. Weight Watchers is today. I'm trying to decide if I need to give those people my money for that group support or go it on my own. It works for me so I probably will go.

I missed posting yesterday, I weighed in at 295! Yikes up 7 pounds! I know I'm retaining fluid, my feet and hands are very swollen, so, I'm decreasing the salt and increasing the fluid, so hopefully next week will be better!
Congratulations to the losers! Yall are awesome! To the breaking even, at least you didn't gain, right? And to the gainers like me... Next week will be better!
God bless!

I edited to add my ticker. (Like anyone cares...lol) But here it is, it should give others a good feeling that theirs doesn't look like mine! HA!Last edited on 8 January 2008 08:40 pm by jjodii

Tuesday morning here! What a day! It should be in the thirties and it is going to 65 today! no mall walking for me, I am headed for the street! A couple of days ago I purchased fruit for me (I am diabetic) and it seemed to agree with me so yesterday I loaded the cart with veggies. Between my meals I help myself to those if I get hungry! I even like crunching on big radishes! I hope everyone has a great day today! Once more day and I will be back in the cold 30 degree day stuff :(

Hey guys,
Sorry I missed yesterday's weigh in. I was waiting for a more reliable scale. Today's weight- 175, which is five less than my weight before Christmas! Seven pounds to lose before the end of February. That's encouraging! I am sure I can make goal. I just have to stick to this lifestyle!

Hi Determined Gal,
I lost 1 pound! I'll take it! I am determinded, too.
I find eating healthy is a real challenge. I miss chips, ice cream, and sweets (crave might be a better word). Intellectually I know eating that stuff starves my body nutritionally but emotionally it doesn't mean I don't miss them.

Hope we all share success in reaching our goals!

Skinnieme,
I miss some of the snacks too. I'll try to have a Dannon Fit and Light (or something like that) yogurt for dessert at lunch and dinner. They're only 60 calories. You can also get a larger tub of it in vanilla and put some blueberries, strawberries or bananas in it. Get the frozen if fresh isn't available. Leave a premeasured amount in the fridge in the morning and just put it in a serving of the yogurt that night. It's a nice rich treat. It satisfies my craving for puddings.
Another dessert is taking a can of pumkin and adding pumpkin pie spice, Splena and a tad of salt. Add the ingedients until you get the taste you want and let it sit in the fridge for an hour. Very low in calories and satisfying if you like pumkin pie. Of course, if you don't, it sucks.

My digital scales are moving in the right direction...YEAH! I'm down two (2) pounds from last week, even though I had a pig-out on Saturday night at a friend's 50th birthday party. I'm going to stay on track so I can get back in my favorite Lucky Brand jeans! Hang in there everyone...we're all in this together.

Here's one of my favorite skinny snacks: take a whole chocolate graham cracker, and divide it in half. Put about a tablespoon of fat free cool whip on one, and make a sandwich out of it. Put it in the freezer and voila! you have a really tasty almost ice cream sandwich.

What I find helps me is I try to make sure I don't eat anything after 8:00 p.m. The key words is "try." But as I want something later in the evening I eat up a mugful of Soymilk and add a Chai Tea tea bag and it tastes devine and feels like a treat.

I find that eating any snacks or treats between meals, even if they are healthy snacks, is defeating. I end up hungrier throughout the day, think of food more often, and end up eating more calories overall.
I do ok if I add the treats as part of a meal as a dessert and end up eating less of them and being more satified by the smaller amount. But I have to strictly limit myself to eating regular meals at regular times during the day. Do other feel this way or do most poeple do ok with in-between meal snacks and treats?

Hi Marmott! I think you are right! Carbs make you want more carbs (Bet you can't eat just one) theory LOL but, I do ok with meat and cheeses . some cheeses for some people have too many carbs to. I guess one has to experiment. Good luck today! sounds like you gotta plan :)

Cathym,
That sounds great. Do you have a calorie count on that? When you say a "whole choc. graham" do you mean a long one like the regular grahams?
Thanks,

Marmot,
I have to eat healthy snacks in between for a couple of reasons. First, I get hungry since I'm reducing my calories to begin with (not to mention exercise) but I've also learned that if I restrict calories my system feels it's "starving" and I'll go into starvation mode and it will be tougher to lose the fat. By eating in between I keep my metabolism going. It's been working so far. I'm down 55 lbs since I started in July.

Bert, You have obviously been very successful! I will be extremely pleased if I can do a quarter as well.
Do you find that you have smaller regular meals to compensate for the in-between snacks?
I think that the in-between meals snack avoidance for me is more a psychological stumbling block rather than a physiological. It is often recommended in many of the diets. Just wanted to know how real people handled it.

Yes one "sheet". The calorie count is 72 calories - and pretty much fat free - compared to a "Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich - which is low fat- which is 140 calories. I think a "regular ice cream sandwich is about 190 calories. I probably should check on the nutrition calculator to be sure on the regular one - the other two - I know by heart!

Marmot,
I will eat smaller meals. I look at what I'm eating and the quantity. I try to make my total day between 1,200 and 1,500 calories a day. I had 250 calories for breakfast, an apple around 10:00 am, Lean Cuisine for lunch (240 cal) and a 60 cal. yogurt. I'm in the middle of an orange right now. Tonight I'll saute some shrimp in a little olive oil and a tiny pat of butter (for my wife and me). I'll remove the shrimp and deglaze with a bit of white wine and add another tiny bit of butter and some fresh lemon juice. I'll probably have a little brown rice and brussel sprouts. For desert I may have another yogurt or some pistachios.
As of today, with the orange, I'm at 695 cal. and I worked out this morning too. I'll be in good shape for dinner.
The key for me is to look at what I'm going to eat for the full day and take all the calories into consideration. My wife and I (she's lost 30 lbs.) plan our weekly menu and do the shopping and then we look at the calories on a daily bais.
It's been working so far and I'm really grateful for this site. It's really helped me to understand what I have to do.
I hope this is helpful.

A couple of years ago, someone came out with a book called, "French Women Don't Get Fat". One of the things the book mentioned was that the most pleasure derived from eating is in the first 3 bites. So, when I find myself craving sweets, I can eat just a few Hershey's Kisses. They are 25 calories each. Suck on them, savor them.
As I mentioned before, I also eat alot of microwave popcorn. I eat it almost every night. An entire bag of "light butter" popcorn has about 250 calories. Four oreos have about the same calorie content. Knowing I will be able to "engorge" myself with this snack enables me to eat less at dinner time.
At dinner time, I eat regular serving sizes of meat and potatoes/rice/etc. I usually cook 2 vegetables with dinner. With the vegetables, I fill my plate.
When eating a pasta dish or something that is not meat and potatoes, I try to eat a salad before dinner. This way, by the time I am sitting down to the rest of my dinner, I am more able to avoid over-eating.
