Note from Administrator:
This challenge has become so successful that it's a challenge for DeterminedGal to keep track of all the challenge members and their posts. So we've made a few changes to simplify things. Please read the instructions carefully, and make every effort to follow them.
Thank you, Peter
Happy New Year, everyone!
It's time to organize our next challenge -- the New Year, New YOU! Challenge. We're all here for the same reason: To live healthy lives and, in most cases, to lose a few pounds. So why not do it with the support of others and join the challenge?
Here's the deal:
- The challenge will begin January 1 and end February 29, but you can join anytime!
- Start today by reporting your current weight and how much you want to lose by February 29.
- Then every Monday (or as early in the week as you can) report your weight.
- The results will be posted right here on this page, right below these instructions.
- We will post a note in the challenge when the results are updated.
- Make your posts as brief as possible. Just the numbers please!
We want you to share with other challenge members about how you are doing. That's what this forum is all about! But it was getting too difficult to sift through the discussions for the numbers, so we've created a special topic just for challenge members to use for sharing:
New Year New YOU! Challenge - Questions and Discussions Here
Who will join me in this New Year, New YOU! Challenge?
If you're not registered for the forums yet, it's free and simple. Just click on Registar in the upper right corner and follow the instructions! Also be sure to read the Membership Instructions.

Please post your updates and corrections!

thanks DG for setting up this challenge, a lot of days when I could eat something with sugar, or bad fats....I think of the challenge and it helps me make a better choice. Ahhh I'm so simple and easily motivated.

Every time I join one of these challenges, there are moments when I regret it. And when I don't do as well as planned, I feel uncomfortable posting about it.
But the challenges always help me to do better than I otherwise would have, so count me in!
I'll be returning from my family Christmas (read: lots of food!) around January 3rd, so I'll be late in starting. And a little heavier! But I'll post as soon as I get back.
Thanks DeterminedGal!

I agree with Peter, this week I was reluctant to post as I hadn't lost but in the end I did, because as long as I'm in a challenge I have a goal which I have made "public" (and I hate not succeeding) so I'll push to get there. Soooooo I will partake in the next challenge! Thanks DG

Hey DG,
I'm in! I was hoping to be in another challenge after the holidays. The current one is really helping me stay focused and it will be good to go right into the new one on the 1st of the year.
I'm trying to stay strong through Christmas but I'm still planning on a big 'ole piece of apple pie for dessert.
Thanks for putting this one together.

| I am in as well. I gave up on loosing weight about 2 months ago during the 2007 challenge. I have stayed away from the scale out of fear of seeing how much I gained. But On Jan 1st I will weigh myself!! I am going to eat all I want until Jan 1st and then I will start me new eating habits again.

I'm new on this forum and I am all ready to start the challenge. I lost 10 pounds in the last few months but am stuck on my last 7. It's getting frustrating and the holidays have not helped in the slightest, but I feel motivated and hope the support here will help me reach my goal. For me, it's not the exercise that I am concerned with--it's the eating. If anyone has any tips, please post! Thanks

Alright, I didn't do so hot the last challenge but I won't let that discourage me. My main problem was my work; everyone here spends the whole month of December snacking away and some of it was too hard to resist. Co-workers coming up and saying "did you try what I brought?" Unfortunately I did. Three times. What's bad is the snack table is on my path to the water cooler. Anyway, the holidays are almost over and I think the next two months should be downhill.
So doing some calculations, I'm hoping to continue with the "2 pound per week" loss. So I would need to lose about 0.285 pounds per day. January and February has 60 days between the two, so if my calculations are correct (sound like Doc Brown here), I am hoping to lose 17.143 pounds by February 29th.
Y'know, give or take 0.01 pound.
EDIT: I've just noticed something. 8 people have chosen to make this challenge their first post ever. What a way to get people motivated! DeterminedGal, I think you're on to something here!

Count me in too. I've been slipping since Thanksgiving - basically getting mugged by all the delicious holiday food - and I'd love to join your challenge.
I'll weigh in on the 1st and let you know.
Looking forward to it.

Count me in! I need some motivation. I challenged my step daughter to participate in a 5k race with me in May. It will be my birthday present to myself and losing some weight will make giving that gift a lot easier.

Hello to all the new folks!!! I hope you had a nice Christmas. I came, I saw, I ate.
I did 45 min. on the stationary bike this morning. My body is wondering what the #%@&! I'm doing to it.
It was great but back to it this morning to finish out the year and get ready for the new year's challenge.
To all the new folks that have questions, Determinedgal (DG) has set up the challenge and you can post your weight to her on Jan. 1. She is on vacation with her family this week and she'll post all the weights each week so we can all see how we're doing and cheer each other on.
Have a Happy New Year!!!

I plan to lose 20 pounds by end of April 2008. I guess this challenge will help me motivate my way through the hardest part. (The beginning.)
I've already lost 30 pounds so I know it can be done.
The last 20 should be a piece of cake. Did someone mention cake?
I'm in.
It's on.
Look out 2008!

Hi all, I'd like to join but I only weigh in every 2 weeks. I have a schedule set with my trainer. Weight every 2 weeks and full stats once a month. Would that be ok? I guess those middle weeks I could just show no loss.
