i am challenging myself, and anyone who wants to join me to lose weight over christmas!

i always put weight on over christmas and the holls, but an determined not to this year. but i dont only want my weight to not go up, i want it to continue going down!

i always feel like such a :pig: after eating christmas dinner, but there is no reson y i need to. i can eat a small amount of everything, and stop eating when i am no longer hungry, not when i am stuffed.

also if i am given choc for xmas i always eat it all within a week. even if i am given tons! so this year if i am given any i will either give it to my bro (who LOVES choc) or i will eat a very small peice a day. that way it will last longer so i can enjoy it for longer, and hopefully it wont cause my weight to rocket.

Let people know that you wish to continue eating sensibly over the holidays. Tell them you don't want to be given chocolate.

If you know what kind of food you'll be offered, arm yourself with the knowledge of how damaging it will be to your plans - and choose portion sizes accordingly.

And don't forget those long, bracing family walks in the park... When you're all having fun, who's going to notice that it's freezing? Remember, a little exercise just before a meal can be an appetite depressant, as can a glass of water.

But don't forget to enjoy the holidays as well. Real life will be back to intrude soon enough!

I don't know if this is relevant here, but for what it's worth.....

My doctor told me 20 years ago on Halloween that I should let my kids pig out on all the candy they got that night, and then dispose of whatever they didn't eat...no saving for later...He said most of it would pass, undigested, out of their systems by the next day, and that they would do far less damage to their teeth and their bodies in general by that one night's binge, than by my doling it out to them little by little over the next few weeks.

I think this is a great goal. I was something similar myself, especially after Thanksgiving, and the terrible feeling that I'm going the wrong way. Actually, this is more of a rededication. I fell off the wagon about a month ago when I got incredibly sick and excercising went out the window! This is my first post, but I'm hoping I can find the support I need here to get that weight back under control!:duck:

Hi vgreet -

Welcome to cph forums. You should post in a new thread if you want to lay out what you'd like to achieve. Or not - it's up to you.

My wife and I would let them have a few candies on Halloween, then one a day after dinner for a few days. Then they'd forget about it and we'd throw the rest out.

About the binge candy passing undigested... this is something I have always wondered about, but it has never come up before and I have never read anything about it.

But it just seemed logical to me that there has to be a limit in how much your body can process at once. It just seemed logical that if you ate a HUGE amount of food much of it would pass undigested as it wouldn't just sit there for days waiting its turn.

However, if there is some truth to this, we should keep it quiet. It would give people rationalization for huge binges, something that almost killed me.

I'm in for this one-not only NOT GAINING over Christmas but actually continuing to lose.  I managed over Thansgiving-my loss was smaller than previous months but still a loss.  My goal for Dec. is to lose 6 lbs.

I tell myself I get to fill my plate once and only once.  And 1 small piece of pie for dessert.  For Thanksgiving I was out of town at my in-laws.  That was tough.  My sweet husband told his mom we were both dieting even though he's not (and doesn't need to) and we took a ton of fruit and healthy snacks with us.  I did end up eating 2 pieces of pie (over our 3 day stay) but did well otherwise.  AND I took my Turbo Jam videos with me so I didn't even miss a workout.  Now to keep it up through Christmas and New Years.

Another thought-I used to always wear something nice and loose on the holidays so I wouldn't have to unbutton after overeating.  Now I'm trying to wear pants that fit or are slightly tight.  It keeps me from eating as much.  No elastic waist bands to make room for all that food.
