Note: This challenge started in November, but you are welcome to join anytime, and the sooner the better!
Hi Everyone!
Since the Halloween weight challenge is going so well, and almost over, I thought I'd throw out a challenge to start November 1. Let's finish off this year with a bang and start 2008 thinner and trimmer.
So, if you want to participate, report in on November 1 with your starting weight and your goal weight for January 1. Then report your weight each Thursday, and I will compile the results for a group report every Friday.
Join me! The only thing you have to lose is... weight!
We'll all raise our glasses on New Year's Eve to toast those who participated and lost weight. Who will be the Biggest Loser?

| Great, CodeMonkey! I hear you about family celebrations - my youngest child and my hubby's birthdays are in November, mine's in December and our anniversary is in December too. That's in addition to Thanksgiving and Christmas! BUT we can do it!

To help this challenge go more smoothly, just two clarifications:
1. Post your starting weight this Thursday, November 1 along with your January 1 goal weight.
2. Report your weight each Thursday, and I will compile the results for a group report every Friday.
I hope to see a bunch of losers....weight losers, that is!

I know it isn't the 1st yet, but I weighed myself a few days ago and thought I would put in my weight a little early.
Start weight: 121 lbs
Goal: 110 lbs
I want to weigh 115 by Thanksgiving because of a family reunion!
I am going to try my best to eat healthy and excercise at least 3 times a week. I burnt myself out after 2 weeks by going to the gym 7 days a week and only eating things with less than 5g. I am going to try and take it slow!

| Good morning girls (and guys). Today I weighed in at 213 lbs. I want to lose at least 3 lbs before my op on 17th December, and would be happier with 5 lbs, but we will see what we will see. The important thing to to be striving towards a goal of a better healthier body mass and a healthier me!

Right, weighed in at 124.4lb this morning. So, eight weeks? I'll try to hit goal I think, 112lbs. Which would be a loss of about 1.5lb/week. Better get to it!

| Count me in. Today I weigh 160 lbs and my goal weight is 148 lbs. That would put me from obese (ugh!) to overweight (smaller ugh!). This would be a good way to start 2008.

My starting weight will be 186.5 and my goal 182.5, 4 pounds for the month. I started with the Halloween Challenge October 1 at 192.5, so that will be 10 pounds for the two months.
(My actual weight today, November 1 was 188, but I'm using 186.5 because that's what I weighed the last few days. I think it was the salt in last night's pizza!)

Ok count me in! Life has been very busy and I kind of blew the last challenge, but like everyone else, I need some motivation.
My starting weight is 141 lbs and I think 4 lbs would be good, considering my new busy schedule and all the holidays coming up. So that would put my goal weight at 137.
Best wishes everyone!
By the way CPH looks awsome! I think it's great having the buttons at the top.
I do kind of wish we had more food options though in the emoticons. I have noticed there is a lack of vegetables.

Hi Everyone,
I just read this challenge and I would like to join. I was a member of these forums back in 2005 and lost 30 pounds. I managed to keep it off for a while, but I have had a really bad year this year and have gained 35 pounds. I am so mad at myself for letting the weight come back on after I worked so hard to take it off. Anyway, I just got myself back on track and started counting calories and exercising again on November 1st. I decided to return to the forums and came across this challenge, which is exactly what I need.
Anyway:
My starting weight on November 1st was 210.5.
My goal weight for January 1st is 195 (15 ½ pounds).
Good luck to everyone!!!!

Hello Everyone,
I just found this forum on the net and I would really like to join. I have been trying to loose weight for many years now and I have always failed. I started dieting a week ago and so far its going well. I eat healthy and I have cut out all carbs. Most of my sugar intake and I have cut out red meat. I drink alot of water and excersize aswell. Last week thursday I weighed in at 214.83lb, a week later which was yesterday I weighed again and I now weigh 205.8lb.... A loss of 9.03lb for 1 week. Seeing how much I have lost this past week has given me the boost and motivation I desprately needed. I am getting married end of december and I really do want to look good. So, the next 2 months I am going to push myself...excersizing everyday and keep eating healthy.
My current weight: 205.8lb
My goal weight: 180.00lb
Weight to loose: 25.8lb
Thank you for starting this challenge, its awesome to know that on this forum there is only positive support.
Kind Regards
Sheree (Amadore)

Welcome Amadore. I've been to PE, many years ago. Remember it was very quiet.............sorry, can't remember much else. Never mind. I am sure that you will find the support you need (in order to lose that weight) right here on this site.
Have you taken a look at the Tutorial yet? It's at the top of each page, third from the left onthe toolbar. Lots of relevant info there, and there are lots of very helpful and welcoming members here too. We've all been fat, overweight and/or unhappy with out body weight/size/body composition, so we all understand, and are onthe same journey as you. There is strength in numbers! We will all do it together.

I will be pleased if I can finish 2007 on 110lbs, I'm not exactly sure of my current weight as I haven't weighed myself for over a week but I should be under 118lbs currently so I believe this is an idealistic goal.
Wow, Joanne81, that sounds really low (110 lbs is 7 stone 12 lbs). How tall are you? Please make sure tht you are overweight before trying to lose weight. You can do it lots of ways, but the easiest (although frequently criticised) is to calculate your BMI.
There was some daft woman way back in the thirties who said " a woman can never be too rich or too thin". She was talking out of her Royal backside. There is definitely a healthy threshold. It really is not a good idea to get too thin. It can have horrible and far reaching implications.
Did you know that there are studies which indicate that one of the reasons that many women gain so much weight during pregnancy is that it is the first time in their lives that they have ever eaten proper food in a "normalish" style, and due to their previous inexperience with real food, they have not developed a familiarity with noraml satiation responses, and thus they overeat and gain to omuch weight, which they then lose by crash dieting (hence the drop in breastfeeding rates - BF can increase appetite, if you chaps were not aware - although BF also burns shed loads of calories many women are startled by their appetite increase and so do not continue).
Anyway, the bottom line is that:
1/ If you get too thin you can muck up your reproductive cycle (amenhorrea) which can lead to a life with no children (in a very extreme situation).
2/ You can also find that your hair and nails suffer (worst case scenario your hair falls out and what you have left lacks condition - seriously).
3/Also, and the most persuasive thing for me - if you eat at a starvation level or don't eat at all for a prolonged period of time you can develop hair all over your body. It is called lanugo and is relatively common in very severe annorexia nervosa. If you recover, it can take ages to fall out. Who wants to walk around covered in hair like a chimpanzee?
Edit: somehow this has posted before the post I am responsding too (from Joanne81). Problems in the forum again?

Well, I'm currently gorging on doughnuts...not at this exact moment, but yeah. That's how i am doing. Pathetic. But i am planning exercise today...
At least I only ate one doughnut for breakfast when I could have easily eaten three or four

I have to be honest, CG - I'm doing exactly the same thing with citrus-choc-chip flapjacks. Why do they have to taste so good?

citrus chocolate chip? Hmm. Not so sure about the citrus. I have never heard of such a thing (flapjacks are the same as pancakes right?)
I had the last chocolate covered doughnut tonight, and I am not as tempted by the plain glazed ones, so hopefully that stint is over.

I understand your struggle with the donuts. My husband insisted that we pull through Krispy Kreme last night so that he could get a donut. I was very proud of myself because I wasn't tempted at all. Of course that was when I thought that he was only going to order 1 or 2 for the road. He ordered a whole dozen OMG!!!! The temptation has been brutal. I ended up eating one for breakfast this morning and I had one little bite of my son's this morning. I have done really well under the circumstances, but there is still a 1/2 dozen sitting in my kitchen. I just pray that he eats the rest of them quickly. I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

Flapjacks are oatcakes, made with far too much butter and sugar - but so yummy. The oats make them very high in fibre, but they are also high in fat and cholesterol (ifyou amke them with butter) but you can reduce the cholesterol by making them with vegetable oil, or even olive oil/sunflower oil, peanut oil or whateveryou prefer.
The recipe I use is:
Ingredients
250g porridge oats/rolled oats
150g butter
75g golden syrup
75g sugar
as much as you want of any combination of items you would like to add (e.g. citrus peel/chocolate chips/halved peanuts/cherries/chopped apricots/dessicated coconut/mixed chopped nuts/chopped dates, etc)
- Melt butter, golden syrup & sugar ina saucepan on the stove top.
Mix chopped nuts, cherries/citrus peel/coconut/.halved peanuts/choc chips or whatever you fancy with oats.
Add melted mixture to oats mix and mix.
Line a square or rectangle baking dish (lasagne dish is perfect) with greaseproof paper or baking parchment. Fill with mixture and press down VERY FIRMLY - use a spoon or spatula cos its usually hot.
Bake. 175 deg C (Gas Mark 4) for 25 to 30 minutes.
Slice into 8 fingers (by cutting into half along the perpendicular bisector of two sides and into quarters perpendicular to the first cut) while still hot and soft but leave in place in tin.
If desired, cover in melted chocolate. Leave to set (overnight if covered in chocolate). The citrus peel adds vitamin C and gives the flapjacks a lovely chcolate orange taste

Mmm. Flapjacks. Do you reckon it's possible to put protein powder into the recipe? I'm really not a fan of the oatcake things I've been making from the recipe in the other forum.

How mean of your husband to do that!! Get a dozen donuts and bringing them home! Doesn't he know you are deiting. Haha, my husband does the same darn things and it kills me! Can't husbands just be supportive.
Tonight is my wiegh in. I don't think I will have lost anything because I only went to the gym once this past week. I have tried to eat less and I think I am doing an ok job. I will check back in with my weight- hopefully I lost.
