morbidlemon- I don't think this week is going to be a great weigh-in for me either. I am so hungry lately, I think it's the cold weather that slipped in recently. Hopefully I'm making alright decisions so I don't gain on top of it.:nono:

Hey, hey, hey!  I don't want to hear anymore about people thinking it's going to be a bad week.  It's only Tuesday.  Still a couple more days left.  If you think it's bad, then turn it around.  Come on.  YOU can do it!!!!

I totally agree with that - it aint over till the fat lady sings - and I've got a sore throat so that won't be any time soon:grin:!

Actually, I won't be weighing myself this week.  I find that the only time i can't deal withthe reality of the scales is during that time of the month when I am most likely to be, by turns, suicidal and murderous.  So during those 7 or so days, I stay away from the scale, and endeavour to conduct a damage limitation exercise - and usually I get a nice surprise when I get to stand onthe scales again.  During these few days the scale can go up by anything up to 10 lbs.  Although all the diet gurus say that any water weight is lost the moment "aunty flow" arrives, I find that this is not the case, and it is only when she takes herself off again that I see the scales return to normal.  This is anxiety causing and nerve wracking.  I'm not at my best around now, and it can only make things worse when you see a huge rise in apparent weight - and tends to send me mouth first into the fridge - so I refrain from putting myself in that position by simply not weighing myself for the week.

I didn't post my initial weight. I did weigh in at 245 on the 1st, got up to 247 yesterday and today I'm at 246. I'm really focused on it this week.

I'm hoping to lose 16 pounds from the 1st (two pounds per week), which would put me at 229. So that's my goal.

Those flapjacks sound interesting, yummy and dangererous all at the same time!  They sound interesting enough that I would like to make them and it also sounds like something I would definately have a problem with.  I have a weakness (problem) with fruit crisp due to the wonderful oatmeal brown sugar topping.  I also have a weakness (problem) with no bake cookies which are made with sugar, syrup, cocoa powder, peanut butter and rolled oats on the stove top and made into cookies.  They have a fudge like consistencey and are highly, highly dangerous!  I can never just walk away with one serving.

These last few days I have been struggling with pizza, danishes and a can of Christmas sugar cookies bought at Wal-Mart.  Yikes!  I've got to quit buying my favorite foods or I'll never lose a pound again!

We seem to have more junk food around then usual as well.

Well, it started when I bought the ingredients to make this excellent mexi-chip dip for this party I was having...then didn't have the party. But of course I still made the dip  :dizzy:

Then my grandparents spent the night, and my dad bought the doughnuts.

NOW it's my bro's bday, so there's chocolate cake and pizza, and we ate out at Red Lobster when my grandparents were here and we're eating at Olive Garden Sunday

I come here everyday and read the forums and I must say that I know how all of you feel about the junk food.  I started dieting 2 weeks ago and I must say that so far I am doing well.   I have been really good at resisting the junk food but, I must also admit that it is very difficult for me to keep resisting these foods.

I have to cook for my family everyday and they like to have a big plate of food everyday...I do get very tempted.  Last night I made a savory pie with bacon, onion, cheese, cream ... etc and I was so tempted to just take a bite.  I was standing there with the fork in my hand standing over the pie....I put a piece on the fork and just before I put it into my mouth I realised what I was doing.  I said to myself:  You do not need to eat this food...you are loosing weight and you are going to look stunning.  After coaching myself the craving was gone.  I went ahead and ate my chicken and steamed veggies....which to my surprise I have come to like.

Because of my will to loose weight I didn't eat the pie.  And I am so proud of myself for being able to resist it.  I find it works when I coach myself....My family thinks Im weird when I talk to myself but, It helps me in so many ways and It keeps me positive!

Last week I lost just over 9lb and tomorrow I have to weigh in again....I know that I wont loose as much as last week but, I definately hope that I loose something.  We will see what the scale says tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a good day today :-)

Haha. I know it's going to be a bad week and I'm dealing with it, it's hard to turn it around when you feel so exhausted.

Have eaten all the chocolate I had now, and I refuse to buy any more. Once again, I, Amy, give up chocolate, caffeine and alcohol.

Although I'm still feeling drowsy from the operation so you might all need to give me a kick to remind me :P

Ok weigh in time!

Last weeks weight: 205.8lbs
:nono:

This weeks weight: 201.8lbs

Total loss for this Week: 4lbs

Its been 2 weeks scince I have started my diet and altogether I have lost 13lbs.....I am happy with how things are going.   I am a little scared to hit a stand still on my weight loss be cause usually the first week or two I lose and after that I dont loose a thing and thats when I get discouraged and start eating again.  I REFUSE TO LET IT HAPPEN THIS TIME!!!!!  I am going to excersize hard this week and want to see a drop of at lease 4 pounds again.  At the moment I eat about 1600 kj a day and I dont really want to lower that much more cause I dont want to go into unhealthy stages.  So People....this week the challenge is on!!!!!...I am so ready to get rid of this fat and bulge!

Good Luck to everyone doing the challenge!

Hi Amadore

Great weight loss! Glad to see a fellow South African.  You must start a diary to help you as well.  My daughter is close to where you are now.

Hi All

Today I weighed in at 150LB, so down 1 lb.

Its'that time of the month' for me this week, so whilst I am dissapointed with 1lb, I usually gain anywhere up to 5lb in this week !!so I guess 1lb was good.

Aiming for far better next week.

Jules

Weighed in at 125.4lb. That's a gain of 1lb from last week. I'm not feeling upset about it, as I have been eating #%@&! and haven't been able to be active due to my operation. Infact I thought it was going to be a lot worse [my insides have been literally jumbled up so functionality has not been great ].

But I'm feeling a bit better now and feeling in the mood for spending money on some weights... A new week, here I come!

I did go for a walk yesterday, but I ended up eating everything.  I just turned into a savage and wondered if the exercise stimulated my appetite.  I hadn't exercised in a very long time (weeks and weeks) so it was possible my body was freaked out.

I am going to have to report that my weight has stayed the same.  Oh well, at least I'm not describing in detail the candy bars I ate or the... Cookies...Sorry!

Our fridge quit working last night.  Everything is warm and defrosted.  And one of my kids is home today with the stomach flue.  Sigh!

Like Sassykat has said we've had pizza, danishes, cookies and lots and lots of Halloween candy in the house.  I weigh 207 lbs now, have gained a couple, but I am still  hoping to get down to around 200 or 199 for the New Year.

Just haven't had the time to go running and eating healthy is not convenient either.

That is really neat that we have people from Africa in our challenge.  I am very ignorant and deprived so I enjoy hearing about any differences in where other people live.

That is amazing will power you have Amadore!  I talk to myself, but I'm afraid I don't say anything useful.  Congratulations on the weight loss!  That is quite a bit!:ribbon:

Thank you so much for the congradulations Sassykat, I really appreciate it so much.  I have been on diets scince I was age 6 and I am finally fed up with having this "fat"!!!!  And this time I have put my mind to it....I AM GOING TO LOSE ALL THIS WEIGHT!  I tell myself everyday how stunning, gorgeous and beautiful I am going to be!  If you keep thinking positive things and believe it....then only positive things will happen.  I truely believe that this time I am going to beat this.  I refuse to be in this body that I am trapped in anymore because it is not who I am inside.

Sassykat, you have our support and motivation...and we will do anything to help you on this difficult road.  YOU WILL GET THERE...BELIEVE IN YOURSELF SWEETY AND THE REST WILL FOLLOW!

I don't know as Fire Man Joe (my husband) and myself will be able to do very well with this challenge - at least for the time being.  We are waiting for a service repair person to contact us to make an appointment for when they can come and repair our refridgerator.  It could be weeks!  We live in a rural area so... that is one of the drawbacks unfortunately.  Without a fridge that leaves us pretty much scrambling to get by.  Oh well!  It may cause some set backs, but I won't let it get me down or put me in a bad mood.  I'm done with being grouchy!  That's for the birds.

You are a sweetie yourself Amadore!  I believe you will lose all the weight you want and you will be healthier.  You sound so determined!  Way to go!:grin:

wow...I never made the connection between Fire Man Joe and Sassykat...am I the only one who didn't know this?

I just had a scary thought...ITS ALL ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE!

How'm I supposed to reach the 120s with turkey, sweet potatoes, corn, greeen beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, fudge, pumpkin pie, cookies, ham, cake, chocolate, birthday cakes (mine and my cousins are coming up)...!!!???!!

Hmm...that is not positive thinking at all...

My official weight for this week is 207.5 pounds (down 3 pounds from last week)....WoooHooo!!!

I am so excited. I know it was mostly water weight but it is really motivating me to do well again next week. It is going to be increasingly difficult with the holidays coming up, but I am going to just take it one day at a time.

There is this guy at work that keeps passing candy out to everyone (everyday). He won't take "No" for an answer. I have been doing really well though. I just graciously accept the candy then as soon as he isn't looking I put it back into the community candy jar. I have been really tempted a few times, but I have managed to not eat any at all. I think I am going to take some fat pictures of myself to work and put on my desk. I think that will help keep me motivated.

Anyway, I hope you all have had as good of a week!!!

Monkey,

Report your weight each Thursday and I compile the info on Fridays.  I'll update your weight for week one now.  I'm determined too...I just had to give myself that name to remind me....ha!

Good job on your 3# loss.  I'm looking forward to you reporting a good loss again next week.

Okee Dokee...I"m in.
When I started this whole dropping pounds  (end of October) I weighed 240 lbs. As of Thursday I was 235. My goal for January 1 will be 219. This excess stuff has got to GO!
Congrats determined GAL you are doing so well!
Sassykat...do you have a freezer you can make Ice in and use Beer Coolers to keep vegies chilled? Put a towel between the ice and vegies so they don't freeze. Did you try vacuuming the coils and around the condenser at the back of the fridge?
Despite the fact I'm an immaculate housekeeper  NOT! Mine often clogs with Beagle hair and dust. (the joys of living with four Bratty Beagles). That dust and hair have been the demise of many a fridge according to my last repairman

Good luck everyone...and you should all be able to beat me, I only have one leg that works right now :crying:

Only one leg that...? Eek. Are you okay?

Well. Just a tip for anyone who did not know: eating at Olive Garden is not generally conducive to weight loss. Eeek, again. Now I'm going to have to spend the remaining three days until weigh in playing catch-up. Or ketchup.

Three days?!?!?!?!?

Agghhh!!

Yes, I do need sleep.

Thank you for suggesting it.

But you don't have to look at me like I'm psycho.

I already know that

DeterminedGal---I know I'm a late starter but I would love to join the challenge. My hectic schedule this semester threw me off the Halloween Challenge. Although I didn't gain the weight back, I have been holding steady at 145...NOT where I want to be. Starting tomorrow I have about 50 days left in the challenge. I aim to lose about a pound a week for a weight loss of 7 pounds. SO...

  • Starting weight: 145
  • Goal weight: 138
  • Total loss: 7 pounds
Good luck everyone!!!

Ok, I have to start all over again.  The weight that I thought I was is totally wrong!:crying:

I had a friend visiting this weekend and he used my scale to check his weight.  He then informed me that he is actually 16 lbs heavier according to his gym scale.  Of course I wanted to tell him he was wrong and so was his scale at the gym.  Looking at my scale I decided it looked old and shabby(it came with the furnished flat) and went out to buy a new one.  My new one to my horror states that I am 210lbs and not 196lbs.  The only good thing to come of all this trauma is that my waist measurement is down another 1.5cm to 88.5.  I can either just be miserable and give up or start all over again.  It's a good thing I always stick to my goals.  So as from today Iam 210lbs and I want to be 194 by the end of 2007.(or more of course)  Or my waist measurement must be 82cm.  I am going to work twice as hard as I had originally planned.

Don't feel bad Teresa!  We've all been there.  At least now you know and can move on!

I have a question for all of you.  The thing that bugs me the most is that all my weight is in my stomach.  Is there anyway to just loose weight there?  I have the worst love handles and I always have the "muffin-top" look.  I am thin everywhere else though!  Weird huh

There is a topic about "spot reducing" in the tutorial. It basically says that it is not really possible. You can a little bit, but the general consensus is that as long as you just lose fat, it will eventually come off everywhere you want it to :crying::tongue:

Crunches, pilates, and planks may help to some extent, or at least make you feel better about even if they don't make any technical difference.

Thanks for that Monkey809, It was a huge shock and I am glad that I had measured myself or I might have been even more miserable.  Regarding your tummy fat; maybe get the Feed the muscle burn the fat book by I think it's Tom Venuto.  My one friend who is a skinny tall guy swears by it.  He had developed a little boepie(potbelly) and got rid of it just by eating a different type of food as stated in the book.  It is definitaley noticeable to me and his other friends.  I haven't read the book myself though, but he says it's just about the change in foods.
