Very good Peter!

I'm still at :coffee: per day. I need to figure out a way to make the decaf a part of life here at the office... too easy to drink the regular that's in there.

Cheers!

My daily allowance has actually been four but since I've been doing so much better I'm cutting down to two on Aug 14.

What's happened is that since I'm counting I hesitate to grab a can so readily... not wanting to reach my quota too soon in the day. Then I get busy and haven't even been reaching my quota of four.

Potatos and water

Normally I don't drink fluids (unless it is free coffee at IKEA, or sugar-free squash in my water bottle during my workout) but I found myself drinking water and sugar-free squash at home over the last few days. Possibly as a result of higher temperatures, but I guess it is partly because I'm eating more potatos (due to a fixation about not wasting food) and therefore eating fewer lower-calorie vegetables, which would normally have kept me hydrated. I was actually experiencing the sensation of thirst, which I don't normally experience. [When you're thirsty, you are already dehydrated]

Wow, Nir, I must need a lot more veggies then. I feel thirsty all the time practically. I almost always have water next to me!

Peter, you're doing great!!! Wow! I'm impressed!

I am still on one cup per day and the past two days I've only had the blueberry white iced tea from Starbucks. I think it has very little caffeine in it as I don't feel any effects at all. It's tasty too! Maybe I could make that a substitute for awhile and get out of it all together- although tea and coffee do both have a lot of antioxidants.

Now that I've got this under control, I wonder if there's anyone on here that smokes and wants to try to quit that. I heard that smoking increases belly fat and of course slows down the health benefits of everything else we're trying to do... Maybe if I combined it with an exercise challenge I could get a few takers. We'll see. Next week I talk to a counselor as offered by the city of DC to get it all together.

Cheers,

For sure you should read the tutorial on smoking and see what happens to your body when you quit!

Thanks Peter, I read that one and two others! I didn't realize that one was in there. I should look from time to time and just make a habit of reading one a week or more. By the time I get around to all of them, I can start at the beginning because surely, I will have lost some of what I learned the first time around!

I feel like such a heretic, talking about healthy eating all the time and smoking still that I hadn't even thought about it being a subject in here. I feel like I'm the only one! Seems as time goes by, that's more likely to be the case, which is a good thing. People stare at you now like you're holding a gun! Where were they 30 years ago??? I could have used that kind of peer pressure then!

:o)

Oh my, just go away!

Just kidding... the whole point of this is to be accountable. But I've been dreading telling what happened. In a nutshell, I'm back to drinking Diet Pepsi as before.

I've been going through some really difficult times (overwhelmingly busy... nothing to worry about and it's about over) and on Aug 16 I was so down nothing was normal that day. Oddly, I didn't even feel like a soda!

I thought that was great till I woke up with a headache the next day. Then I felt worse and worse till I tried to eat late afternoon and couldn't. I discarded my cereal and made some sweet toast and in 20 minutes could only force down one piece.

I concluded that this was from caffeine withdrawal as it has happened this way before. I just really need to cut down slowly.

Then the next day company came for the weekend only to add to my busy schedule. I just didn't want to deal with the whole thing so I went back to my Diet Pepsi without counting or trying to cut down.

This is such an old topic with me I really want it to end.

Thanks for asking. I really was just joking about "going away."

Aww i know i'm way late about this decaff challenge but i'd like to say i'm gonna try and do this for the month of september.

I been trying to cute out soda (my big weakness) for months to be honest and i'm gettin the hang of it but i'll have like a bad week and just drink like 4 cups a day or more and so on! So today i did have a cup of soda but no more.. and i'll try my darnest to not drinking anymore actually. In my diary i have put 1 cup a day so that will be my limit if i should slip.. but other then that yeah i'm gonna try and just cut soda out for good. I dont believe in diet soft drinks.. if its soda its soda plain and simple.. just not good for ya lol. So yeah wish me luck

Okay Peter, time to get back on the wagon!

I quit smoking, so YOU can give up diet pepsi! I'm sure of this. I've all but given up caffiene now as a result of the no-smoking because between the patch and the medicine I was taking to quit, I was as mean as a snake! Glad I stayed away now, aren't you?? So, with caffeine added to that combo I would have been on the ROOF! Now I've cut the medication in half (much better) and will taper it down soon to nothing (love managing my own meds- do not try this at home!).

Today I had white tea (which surprisingly wasn't white at all)... and kept the same teabag for several cups. So far, so good. The most I've had in ages is one cup of anything with caffeine and I'm getting used to ordering decaf. Now I'm thinking I'll just switch to tea totally (but not be a tee-totaler); either green, white, decaf or herbal. I just read a book called Skinny B*&*$, and it turned me off a bunch of things including coffee, although that wasn't the worst of it. The women who wrote it are flag waving vegans, so if anyone wants to loose weight and get really healthy, read the book, but don't come crying to me when the idea of meat, processed food, coffee and a host of other yummy items make you think twice. I haven't had meat since and am trying to give up dairy too, but will be reasonable about it.

Well, let's hear the story! How's everyone doing? No slacking just because I was out for awhile!

Hey is this challenge over? I'm seriously over caffeinated and I was just thinking that I should ditch the habit because it's cutting into my sleep and gives me cravings for cigarrettes.

Anybody still trying to give it up?

Darlene,

I saw seminakedcats' post above the day she posted it, and just pretended I didn't.

I've tried to quit so many times it's embarrassing. But I still want to.

October 1 I joined the Halloween Challenge, and that's enough for me right now. When I might have grabbed a sweet before, I grab a Diet Pepsi now. It's a crutch.

Go ahead and challenge yourself... post about it here and keep us informed! Others may join you -- or not -- but knowing that others are reading your posts is a great help!

Just be totally honest about it, or there's no point at all.

Hey Darlene,

Sure! This is going on! Peter still needs to at least see the subject pop up under "recent" occassionally to realize it's time to BACK AWAY FROM THE DIET PEPSI SIR!

I'm about done with it, as seems to happen with most challenges. The minute I stop worrying about it I seem to excel at whatever it is I was being challenged to do previously. In the past week I can tell you I've had 1 diet coke in class where that's all there was, and I think a green tea last Saturday. That's it. The rest of what's gone in my body has been herb tea, water or wine (organic red, no sulfites).

I did it kind of slowly, as they say you should so you don't get a massive headache from withdrawl, but now I don't seem to crave it at all. I'm more sensitive to it now than I was though, so now I have to actually watch it. The green tea last Saturday had me reading a book until after 3 a.m.!

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!!

Cheers,

Kit

I am just finishing up my first week of caffeine withdrawal...............:crying::dizzy::confused::nono:

I eliminated all but small amounts of it from my diet years ago, and this spring and summer, with so much going on, I was dragging.   So, I started in on regular coffee again :angry:    I didn't realize the effects it was having, until this week when I decided to take it out of my diet again!

I gave up all soda pop about 1 1/2 years ago............I had to do it cold turkey or I wouldn't have done it at all!   In that time, I think I've had 2 sips from my hubs.   Once, he wanted me to taste a new drink he'd tried.......and there was Diet Coke in it.   The other time, I had no water with me, and a splitting headache.    I needed something wet to get some Advil down my throat........the hubs had one sip of diet root beer left in his can, so I used it.   Otherwise, I've switched (???-can you call it that???? I've always been a big water drinker) to water, currently de-caf coffee, a very occasional light Minute Maid Lemonade, and an occasional red wine.    Those are my beverages..........but I might add some de-caf tea as fall comes and it gets cooler.   I like something hot to warm me up

Yeah, no kidding about the warm me up HG! I've been drinking tea to warm up inside! It seems like it's so nice out now, a little hot still during the day here, but the air conditioning everywhere I go is set at 60! BRRRR! I'll bet it's nice there now in small town MN. Especially in the evenings.

Good job on getting the caffeine out! Now I just know that Peter and Darlene can do it too if they want to! No pressure... I try not to proselytize.

Cheers,

 Kit

The evenings are getting pretty nice now that fall is here..........however there is the exception.    It is about 6:00 p.m..........I am still at work.........and it is 86 degrees outside yet!    Autumn come back!

That's what it's doing here in DC too. Mostly hot during the day still, but at least it's cooling down at night. That's a good thing. Gets a little fresh air in the house.

Keep inspiring people!

I did some research a while ago in curiousity if my caffeine intake was detrimental to my health/longevity goals and I found that unless you are consuming HUGE amounts of caffeine it is generally ok.  Whats bad is what you consume the caffeine with, soda is of course bad, coffee black is ok but cream and sugar no of course
