OK.
I don't know how to start, but here I go:
I've been trying to lose some weight, for a long time.
But for some reason- it's hard. I think it's the best thing to do it in a group, it gives the best motivation, and inspiration!
I used to have days where I'm really focused on my diet, don't want any junk, and I did lose a little bit of weight- and then days where I ate a lot of food and unfotunately "forgot" about my diet and just ate what i wanted, as much as i wanted bcaz my stomache said 'pliz...it's so good...give me! more more more!' LOL. and then i was sorry for that. but even when i decided to start agin- i failed agin.....
So I was always losing 2 lbs, gaining 1 lb, staying the same, losing, gaining...
But now that's SO over! I'm strating seriously, and nothing can stop me!
I hope there are more people like me out there, that r tired of failing their diets, and really want to lose weight!
So good luck everyone, and please join my grou!
Oh, and my name's Eliana

SO since usually when I diet I suddenly give up after 1/ a few days and eat foods like , , which are just FAT - I decided to start a real diet this time-
A DETOX DIET[i call it that...some people call it the lemonade diet...]. yeah, like beyonce. It's this drink u drink every day, 6 times a day.
I'm not sure of waht will happen...but i'm doing it.
the good news are- i can lose a lot of weight , fast! People said they've lost 9-10 lbs [even more] in only one week! so i'm gona try do do it for a week...
The bad news are- it's really hard. This "special magic drink" only contains:
• 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon.
• 2 tablespoons of grade B Maple Syrup.
• 1/10 tablespoon of cayenne pepper
• A glass of pure water
and i can't eat nothun else...but maybe like 1 fruit a day [ i made this rule up lol]
i'm trying it TODAY. ugh- the cayenne pepper tastes rilly bad and makes the drink a lil spicy & weird..... But without it tastes kinda good! just like lemonade! so i ate an , that's good, and i'm still drinking1 cup of the drink... it's hard to finish it lol.

I have a lot of weight to lose....about 45 lbs, and I want to start losing today too.
I want to start being healthier and exercising, two things i barely do lol, so today my goal to only eat healthy, like- fruits and vegetables, whole weat foods, no junk! and to go to the gym for a whole hour.
WOW how can u do that diet with the drink? It sound pretty hard...well, good luck
and I hope to hear from you soon,

Make sure to check out Tips and our Tutorial.
Your detox diet is quite low on calories and on nutrients - you are essentially starving yourself which unfortunately will backfire. Actually detox diets came up quite recently in this topic.
Good like with your group-diary idea.

hey everyone!
I'm so happy you've joined the group! Jason- of course you can join!
Tips?? well, for starters- exercise every day!
I'm so mad at myself. By 3:35 p.m, I really wanted food- so I opened the refrigerator door- and I saw a chicken ceaser salad. So guess ,what did I do? I ATE IT!!! LOL.
and then I really wanted something sweet so i ate a lot of cereal and milk- a whole bowl! And then a whole snack [potato chips-a small bag]!!!!
I felt soo full and sooo bad after, because I ate too much, and FAT!
The salad was big, and had a lot of chicken and cheese- but I ate it!
So I guess today I'm not doing the lemonade diet. DUH! lol.
I'll try tomorrow. and if I'll be too hungry- I'll just eat healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables.
God I feel bad. I will never do it agin! eating too much, and all at once only gives me fat and makes me feel really bad and fat. lol. and now I'm going to exercise for at least an hour!

Hey, good luck with your weight loss goals, but are you sure this is really the right way to go about it? this lemonade diet may help lose a massive amount of weight over a short period of time, but like other 'fad' diets such as the cabbage soup diet etc, most of what you lose will be water weight. there is also the danger that by eating so little your metabolism will slow down enormously. this basically means when you go back to eating your normal food intake after you come off the detox your body will need less calories than it did before and you are likely to put on more weight. also, such a crash diet is likely to cause you to lose muscle, which actually burns more calories than fat and increases metabolism. and plus, lets face it, drinking peppery lemonade for a week must be flippin gross!
Im not trying to have a go at you or belittle your efforts, im just trying to help you see that this might not be the best way to go about losing weight. i, myself, tried something very similar when i was 16- a detox of nothing but water- i lasted 4 days and by the end of it i have never felt as awful in my whole life! all i wanted to do when i was on this 'water diet' was sleep (and eat chocolate), and when i came off it, thats exactly what i did! Im now about 50lbs heavier than i was then! now for the first time in my life im trying to lose weight the right way- a healthy varied diet and regular exercise- and to be honest i've never felt better!
anyway, like i said, good luck with your weight loss. i only posted this as it genuinely concerned me that people were going to such extreme measures. i didnt mean to offend you if i did x

I basically want to lose 16-20 lbs. u may think 'its not that much', but actually- it is! and it's hard, but my goal- is to do in LESS THAN 1 MONTH. that would be soo cool
Whoa whoa whoa! loseing THAT much weight? 9-10 a WEEK? HIGHLY unhealthy! Your starving yourself!
And what you DID put in your 'miracle drink' ? Maple Syrup? That's just sugar pretty much. It's tree sap, and plants use the sun to help them make glucose - a sugar to keep them alive, since thier nutritional needs are so much simpler.
The key your missing, is excersize paired with proper portions. You can have cake, and ice cream, and pizza, but limit yourself and make sure to sweat it off and keep to more healthy foods throughout the rest of the day.
16-20 lbs isn't that much to lose, you don't need to starve yourself to do it. Just make sure to eat healthy foods and get some exersize in each day. Depending how you count, you oly got 4-5 lbs to lose as your goal, at 2 pounds a week (the max you should lose), it'd only take you a month and a week to reach your goal.

Hi Eliana,
I decided to get myself going in the right direction about 6 weeks ago, and I have a lot of weight to lose (I'm only 5'6 and I started at 248 pounds - yikes!). I know from my own history that if I feel deprived (and boy would I ever feel deprived with just drinks!) I will fail.
This time I did my research (this website has some great information - it's how I found this wonderful and supportive forum) and finally understood the *magic* to weight loss. Eat fewer calories than you burn. How did I somehow miss that essential point all this time, with Atkins, and Weight Watchers, and Fad Diets aplenty? That said, I also know that if you eat too few calories then your metabolism will slow way down, which is why it is strongly suggested that you lose no more than 1 or 2 pounds a week.
I know that slow weight loss seems frustrating - but from my research it seems that it's the only kind of weight loss that lasts. Loss that comes from building a new lifestyle of eating within your appropriate calorie intake in a healthy, sustainable way.
I'm not going to tell you NOT to proceed with the diet you suggested, but you may want to do a little more research and decide if it's really the best way to proceed. Everyone is different, and we have to do what is right and healthy for each of us individually.
I love the idea of a "group" journal to support each other. Thank you for starting one for us to share with you.
Cheers, FLT (down 12 pounds in 6 weeks - yay!)

Eliana,
I'm delighted to hear that you've opted to go for a healthier option than that nasty sounding drink, LOL. I think that's a great choice!
You really will find some great suggestions on this website for what might be healthy - but of course you should always go with what is healthy for you personally.
In my case, I'm counting calories only - without worrying much about anything else other than trying to slowly add some exercise. That said, in order to feel satisfied I seem to be tending towards fruits, veggies, and good protein sources. I've been pleasantly surprised that I've been taking in well less than 30% of my calories from fat most days - which is WAY better than it used to be! I actually went out of my way to ADD fat to my diet the other day when I was only at 9% fat calories on the day, oops! LOL
I know you can do it, Eliana! Remember, slow and steady wins the race

Hi Eliana!
I got that same recipe but for detoxing the body for short periods of time, I forget what the whole plan was, but I didn't do it because there was no way I would be able to walk around and even SHOE SHOP with that little energy (calories).
Glad you saw the light. Great idea on the forum. It's nice to have another place to go read inspirational stuff.
Welcome aboard (to board?)

Group-based mutual support is a great idea (essentially, that's what Peter's entire site is about), but support needs to be about a sustainable approach.
That means a realistic aim for rate of loss of body fat, a sensible approach to exercise (not too little, but equally not too much) and the knowledge that we all lapse sometimes. So long as the lapses are occasional or, better, planned, then you will still be on track with your efforts.
I firmly believe that the best way to control body weight, whether you're looking to lose fat or to bulk up on muscle, is to attain a positive mindset before beginning the attempt.
Most 'diets' are lurched into during periods of despair, self-loathing or during other life-induced crises. Unfortunately, those periods are probably the worst launching pads for any life-changing attempt.
Good luck to everyone is this group. But don't forget to 'keep it real'.

| Hey there!! I dont mean to be Debbie Downer about the Detox diet....It is a quick fix and you will loose weight...But all it is is refined sugar. It will cause your blood sugar to peak and drop several times thru out the day which in the end will just make you MORE HUNGRY!! It will also SLOW down your metabolism!! I know this was an old post so I hope you had success with whatever you did....

I agree that joining a group, definitely helps keep you motivated. It has worked for me in the past. So I would like to join you. I'm going to share "my diet secrets" (which are not really secrets) with you.
There is no majic pill or drink to weight loss. You may NOT want to hear this ; but it's true and until you face the fact, you will continue to fail. THis fact, that I have finally come to understand and accept is that: If I want to lose weight, it is not going to be easy or fast. Persistence, sticking to your plan is the answer. This site caloriesperhour.com has a lot of great information. Find out on the site how many calories you need to eat per day to lose approx. 2#/day. I took this number, which is 1300 for me, and created a daily calorie range that I restrict myself to. This is 1100-1500 calories/day. If I'm having a bad day (hungry all day) or have a special dinner etc, I let myself have up to 1500 calories. Now, keep in mind you need to stay with healthy foods. Then if I let myself have a 1500 on one day then I try to follow it up the next day with an 1100 calorie day. THis alternateing calorie intake thing works great for tricking your metabolism and helping you to keep losing! My goal every day when I wake up is to stick to the 1300 cals/day. I also have a goal of drinking 60 oz water a day. I fill 20 oz bottles and put em in the frig. Some, I add s/f flavoring to. I tell myself that I must drink at least 3/day. I also try to get in 1/2 hr of exercise EVERY DAY! If I don't get in that 30mins then, I say to myself that I have to do 1 hr the next day. In other words, if I skip it for one day; then I have to make it up in the next day or two.
This is my plan. And it works, REALLY WELL. It's not complicated. You just have to decide for yourself that you are going to make yourself a plan and stick to it.
In January of this year, I found myself to be 30# overweight. I got serious and lost 16# over 2 months. That's 2#/week. Then, for some reason, I let my negative feelings knock me off track. And I went back to my old bad habits. Eating lots of junk in response to stressors in my life.
Well, now I'm back on track. I've let myself gain back about 8# of what I had lost the first of the year. I've been going doing great with my eating/exercise plan for almost 2 weeks now and have lost 3#. I know 20# doesn't sound like much to some of you, but it's just as tough to get motivated and stay motivated as when you need to lose 50# or more. JoanRenee

I would love to join this group. Have a few pounds to lose ( about 60+) and could really use some motivation. I think the idea of a group it terrific. I know I need a nudge now and then to keep me on track.
Here's to a new week and a new start.

Well here goes. As usuall I am starting my weight loss effort in the fall which always seems to be the kick off for me. I have done it before successfully with weight watchers but would like to try on my own this time.
So here's my plan. I am majorly downsizing my portion sizes and trying to drink no less than 8 glasses of water a day. I am uping my milk servings to 4 a day as osteoporosis runs on both sides of my family. Did some reading and found out that a dinner plate 50 years ago was only 9 1/2 inches across. Most plates today measure in at 11 - 12 inches across. The lunch plate to my set is 10 inches across and the dinner is 12 1/2!!! I bought myself a couple of 9 1/2 inch plates from the dollar store and am getting started. I am also going to apply the plate method. 1/4 meat, 1/4 carb, and 1/2 vegetables.
Here's the scary part for me. Today I weighed in at 198 lbs. Up from the 130 I was before I had my first child 3 1/2 years ago. I am 39 years old and have diabetes and heart disease in my family so this is a bit of a wake up call.
JeanRenee your plan looks awesome. No starving and you seem to be doing well on it. Keep up the good work .
I look forward to seeing how we all do. Please feel free to give me a kick or a nudge if you see me slipping and I will do the same for you.
Well I guess I have babbled on long enough so until next week. Good Luck and keep smilin' .

Hi. I had pretty much given up that anyone was going to email me back here.
I could sure use an email buddy that needs to lose some weight too. We could help each other stay focused. I need to lose about 20# right now.
I have been still doing my yo-yo thing! It's so stupid. I do really good eating and exercising for about a week then screw up for a day or two; which makes it so that I AM NOT LOSING. I'm not gaining either. Which has been good thru the holidays.
But I'm really sick of being overweight! I'm really ready to stay on track. Anyone out there want to LOSE SOME #'S WITH ME?

Hi Elaine,
I started anew yesterday and had a great day. I had only 1200 cals. I only did 20 mins of exercise on my recumbent bike but did a lot of cleaning around the house (My day off)
Today, so far, am doing very well too. I'll need to really push myself to get on the exercise machine tonite, cause I'm really tired. Plus, not eat too much this evening. Which I tend to do when I'm really tired. How old are you? I am 49.
I saw you posted at like 1am! You must be a nite person huh? I just got off working niteturn a few months ago.
What diet are you following? Are you exercising? JoanRenee

Hello everyone;
I weighed in on Monday and I was down 2.2 lbs its the 2.2lbs that I put on the previous week. I seem to be caught in the yo-yo syndrome. Any ideas why I can't seem to stop this up and down situation. I get this way every time I start a weight loss program then Iget discouraged and quit.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Everyone. But if you keep at it, you'll lick it. Or at least do better than you are today.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I was sick last week and have not eaten much since last Thursday Feb. 7. I weighed in this morning and I am down 10.2 lbs. I just hope when I get back to eating normally, I don't put any back on.

Hi, I'm new. I have been lloking for somewhere to vent about how hard it is to change your "bad habits". I am 278 lbs., 25 years old, & 5'5". I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT!!!!!
I just got married in July 2007 and I hate looking at those pictures. I feel so sorry for my family who has to look at them also.
I was wondering if anyone had a good 1100-1300 calorie meal plan. I am not the brightest crayon in the box and can't figure out what I need to eat, or not eat.
If anyone knows of a website that has meal plans or sample meal plans, let me know.
Also, Eliana this group seems great! Can't wait to hear back from y'all!

Welcome hotshotgirl!
This group hasn't been active for awhile, so don't get discouraged if you don't hear back.
Before you pick a diet plan, I'd like to suggest that you read the tutorial on this website.
Best wishes,
Peter

I use to do the same thing. Untill one day, I just decided enough was enough. I think it was more of a mind thing, then anything else. I would love to encourage others while trying to lose my last few pounds. Count me in....

FLT wrote: Hi Eliana,
I decided to get myself going in the right direction about 6 weeks ago, and I have a lot of weight to lose (I'm only 5'6 and I started at 248 pounds - yikes!).
It took me three years to lose most of my weight. I now only have 5lbs to go. So, don't get frustrated by losing weight slowly.

wow it's been 7 days... I've only lost like 2 lbs lol but it's good bcaz even a little loss's good..
I have a challenge for myself - I want to try realllyyy hard and lose about 6 lbs untill july 4th! and then i'll only have like 10 more to lose..=]
I mean- my goal is to lose [in total] 20 lbs.. but even 16 would be great!
Good luck on your weight loss too! oh and how's it going? are u losing more and more? I bet u are.
You can do it! You just need to stay on track and think before you eat. Do you really want that food or do you want to be thin. It really is alot of mind stuff. Trick yourself, tell yourself you can have it tomorrow. Then by tomorrow, you may not want it. Good Luck!
