It's almost time for the next challenge, everyone!
Here are the guidelines for the New Year, New YOU weight loss challenge (similar to those of the previous ones):
- The challenge will run from Thursday March 1st through Monday April 30th (my 39th birthday!)
- You may join the challenge at any time beginning March 1st, and late-comers are most welcome. You can even join the challenge in April. To join the challenge, post your height, starting weight and goal weight.
You may choose any goal you like. But if your goal is to lose more than 17 pounds during the challenge period -- more than two pounds a week -- please explain why you think your goal is realistic.
This website is dedicate to healthy, common sense, lasting weight loss, and does not support crash diets which do not have realistic expectations of producing long-term results.
For more information, please see the Tutorial ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial.php ) and the forum topic The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum46/5491.html ).
Your height will be used to display your BMI. Disclosing your height is optional but as incentive to share your height with us, unless told your height I'll just assume you are 5' (1.52m).
- Pick a day for your weekly weigh-in, and stick to it a closely as you can. Then post your current weight each week -- or as often as you would like!
You may wish to read: How Often Should You Weigh Yourself ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum46/5625.html )
- Those who are not losing weight, and those who are gaining, will receive praise for continuing to participate. It's so easy to run and hide! We've all been there ourselves.
We also know that by participating, they are very likely doing better than they otherwise would be.
- The results will be updated every Wednesday (or more often) and posted right here just below these instructions, so they will always be easy to find.
We want the challenge stats to be realistic and reflect active challenge members, so anyone not posting for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the list. But they will be put right back on the next week should they post again.
If you need to withdraw from the challenge, please have the courtesy to post a farewell note or send me a Private Message (PM). Your name will be removed.
- You are encouraged to share how you are doing during the challenge, and especially to give each other support. However, to make it easier for me to find your weekly weight, please try make sure your weight stands out (if your browser lets you do this).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post them or send me a PM.
Wishing you success and happiness!
Nir

Here's a picture of where my BMI has been in the last 12 months - that's right, always in the healthy range, but I did not like those quick and unexpected gains back in June and late July. It was only during the last challenge period that I returned to my comfort zone of BMI ~20. Yet right now I'm a bit below. My target range is BMI 19.5-20.5 (or 117-123lb).

SW 53.19 (117.2lb)
GW 54.48 (120.0lb)
Height 65 inches
I plan to weigh-in on Mondays.
April 30th will be my 39th birthday.

Thanks for running this again Nir.
I put about 70% effort into last challenge and lost 10lbs.
This challenge I am going for 100% effort and a goal of 16 lb loss.
It's only 8 weeks and will put me below 200 where I want to be by spring. I can then shoot for 175 - 180 by early summer.

Hello All,
I am new here. Been lurking around the forums and doing some reading and this seemed like the perfect time to sign up.
Starting Weight 371.4
Goal Weight 347.4
Height 72 inches
This will be a 24 pound loss. Being a big guy I tend to drop weight pretty fast especially near the beginning. In the past 7 weeks I have dropped 55 lbs. I think that is going to slow down very soon but I think 3 a week is reasonable for me.

Nir, that's neat that the last day of the challenge is your 39th birthday. That's a milestone.
I am going to be brave and join this challenge. (Translation - I am afraid of failure.)
I also have trouble losing weight and do so slowly.
Please sign me up for 3 pounds! To lose that is- not gain! LOL.

What I've been doing consistently since at least last Monday is "counting 300 grams" (of calorie-dense foods) per day, in addition to other things I've been eating. This currently also includes taking a pocket scale with me and weighing foods (when I consider it to be socially acceptable) so this does not just mean "healthy" calorie-dense foods.
I may either need to gently increase the 300 figure (to review in 3-4 weeks' time) or be more relaxed about certain "outside foods" and not count them in my supplemental food allocation

NIr, what is a "pocket scale" I mean of course it's a scale that fits in your pocket but where did you find such a thing?

Hello everyone!
I'm here to get back on track after having my son. I was doing well with the Independence Day 2011 challenge when I found out I was pregnant and I'd love to get back there again. I gained 36 lbs. while pregnant and now, two months post partum, only 10 of them are gone. I can only fit into my one fattest pair of jeans and I absolutely refuse to wear my maternity clothes anymore so my choices are limited to losing the weight or becoming a nudist (and Calgary is way too cold for option number 2). I'm going to take weight loss slowly so I don't interfere with milk supply.
My height: 5'9
My Weight: 195.2
My goal: 189

Better late than never, right?
Height: 5'7"
Current weight: 215
Goal: 195 (-20 lbs)
I'll weigh in on Sundays
A 20 lb loss in 7 weeks is a little higher than 2 lbs a week, but given that I am starting a brand new workout regime after being relatively sedentary for the last year, I expect that my loss in the first 2 weeks will be higher than average (likely close to 5lbs a week) as my system adjusts and I experience that glorious water loss. Here's hoping, anyway!
Good luck everyone!

I seem to be going in the "wrong" direction. I attribute this to:
1) a subtle reduction in the amount of produce I eat, as a result of switching from mix-everything-as-one-dish to separate sampling and eating off plates instead of much larger containers
2) a corresponding increase in liquids (aiming for 4 cups a day) to ensure I am not constipated
Contrary to what I wrote last week I in fact increased intake from 300g to 350g that day onwards so have been doing that for a week - so might well end up implementing the next increase (to 400g) soon enough, to avoid 'failing' this challenge!

Weight is 135.8 lbs
This last week my diet was hit and miss with my boys on spring break and all the other things I had going on.
Hopefully next week will go a little better.
Wishing everyone good health and warm sunny weather to get outside and do some fun things while being more active.

After ~12 days at '350g', I incresed target to '400g' on Saturday (March 17th). An extra 50g is about 200-250 calories? (depends on what I actually eat). Last week had two salad buffets (Monday at Pizza Hut, Thursday at Harvester), still weighed in 52.5kg (below target range) on 5 of 7 days. I do expect this to change.
I have noticed a reduction in the physical amount of 'uncounted' food that I eat (and that is fine, I am on a slow-eating path - I have to remember to adjust the 'counted grams' down if my weight increases above target as a result of changes to this uncounted component. Well that's looking a bit far into the future - first let's "win" this challenge rather than still go in the wrong direction)

Well I cut out the insane amounts of juice and milk I was drinking and replaced it with water and decaf teas. I've also reduced my consumption of the frozen convenience foods that I'd stocked up on when Xander was born. Now if I could only add sleep and exercise I'd really be flying.
