It's almost time for the next challenge, everyone!

Here are the guidelines for the Summer weight loss challenge (similar to those of the previous ones):
  1. The challenge will run from Tuesday July 5th through Wednesday August 31

  2. You may join the challenge at any time beginning July 5th, and late-comers are most welcome. You can even join the challenge in August. To join the challenge, post your height, starting weight and goal weight.

You may choose any goal you like. But if your goal is to lose more than 16 pounds during the challenge period -- more than two pounds a week -- please explain why you think your goal is realistic.

This website is dedicate to healthy, common sense, lasting weight loss, and does not support crash diets which do not have realistic expectations of producing long-term results.

For more information, please see the Tutorial ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial.php ) and the forum topic The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum46/5491.html ).

Your height will be used to display your BMI. Disclosing your height is optional but as incentive to share your height with us, unless told your height I'll just assume you are 5' (1.52m).

  3. Pick a day for your weekly weigh-in, and stick to it a closely as you can. Then post your current weight each week -- or as often as you would like!

You may wish to read: How Often Should You Weigh Yourself ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum46/5625.html )

  4. Those who are not losing weight, and those who are gaining, will receive praise for continuing to participate. It's so easy to run and hide! We've all been there ourselves.

We also know that by participating, they are very likely doing better than they otherwise would be.

  5. The results will be updated every Wednesday (or more often) and posted right here just below these instructions, so they will always be easy to find.

We want the challenge stats to be realistic and reflect active challenge members, so anyone not posting for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the list. But they will be put right back on the next week should they post again.

If you need to withdraw from the challenge, please have the courtesy to post a farewell note or send me a Private Message (PM). Your name will be removed.

  6. You are encouraged to share how you are doing during the challenge, and especially to give each other support. However, to make it easier for me to find your weekly weight, please make sure your weight stands out.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post them or send me a PM.

Wishing you success and happiness!

I guess I'm signing up a bit early.  Hope that's ok.

The above graph shows my BMI over the last 12 months. I'm not a fan of rapid weight gain (the graph shows exampeles in October 2010, January 2011 and June 2011). My approach for the challege is to reduce my calorie count from 2200 to 2000 whilst maintaing the "uncounted" portion where it is or perhaps allowing it to increase. Goal would be stability, maybe a little cutting, definitely to maintain muscle.

SW 56.40 (124.2lb)
GW 55.95 (123.2lb)
Height 65 inches
I plan to weigh-in on Wednesdays

Thanks for running the challenge!

Ok, so weigh in day will be Monday! If I am doing my math right then I will need to lose 1.3lbs a week. That is certainly doable.

hey everyone, i'm from australia so everything i post, will be in kilograms and pounds.

my height: 170cm (5'6")

starting weight: 80.1kg (176.22 pounds)

goal weight: 66.0kg (145.2 pounds)

my goal is realistic for myself because i am an athlete that has been off training for a while so my diet and training will be a full pace. i have lost this much weight this quickly before just purely because of the amount of exercise i do per day (around 9 hours a day).

weekly weigh in day: wednesday

Hi to newcomers:grin:  For us in the northern hemisphere it's good eating weather with all this fresh fruit and veggies around. Basing your food intake around these foods will see the weight drop off.

Kandy, I hear what you are saying, but, take care, there is always the next challenge:wink:

ok....weigh in this morning was 149lb. I wasn't all that great over the weekend and had one really bad day last week. So, this week I need to play catch up and get busy.

I think I will get rid of more carbs and stay away from the greasy meats. Which is what I ate over the weekend. As much as I love brats...I need to stay away from them.

Kellyray   Post a typical days food and calories and we can take a look at what you are eating.

Are you weighing your food or estimating. People can underestimate by 50% if just eyeballing and not weighing.

I have been calorie counting.... no pop, a lot of water, and one cup of coffee per day with sugar free cream.
I usually have a breakfast bar in the morning, 120 calories or so.  Have a snack around 11, grapes or some sort of fresh fruit.  Lunch is usually light, salad with cucumbers celery and light dressing, or tuna on low carb multi grain bread, 100 calorie snack packs, carrots...  snack again in the afternoon, activia yogurt or veggies.  dinner is usually light, chicken, fish and steamed veggies.  trying to cut out the breads and processed foods.  Now I realize it hasn't been that long, but for some reason seeing the scale go down is important to me, not the way my clothes feel.  I also have been walking at least 40 minutes or doing the elliptical for 30 minutes.  I'm hoping that next week I will see something positive.  I try to keep my calorie count around 1200-1500/day.  My doctor said 1200 was a good number, because I also have a thyroid problem, so it is harder for  me to lose weight.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Kray Your diet looks good as long as you are accurately counting your calories.

I am sure that your doctor has explained that thyroid problems can be associated with weight loss/gain issues, if not, you need to speak to him/her again.

Stick with it:grin:
