How coincidentally weird that there are a couple of different diary posts right now going on by vinyl lovers. Raise your hand if you love vinyl. ME!!!!
Ahem, that would be the musical kind, for anyone requiring clarification.
During college I used to dj at a club and on the side did frat parties for a couple of years . It was so much fun! The vast majority of my collection is late 80's=early 90's 12" dance remixes. New Order, Depeche Mode, Ministry, Front 242 and also a bunch of rave techno and Razormaid remixes. I also have a small collection of childhood 45's that I crack out every blue moon. The neighbors know it when they hear the "Lido Shuffle" or "Fox on the Run" by Sweet. Not sure you remember that one?....click here and sing along: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGpVLfdPV34 "I...I...I...don't wanna know your name..."

that is so awesome molly! i used to be the proud owner of some punk stuff (dead kennedy's and the like.. also sublime.. and other more "modern" stuff) but they are gone now. i mostly own 60s and 70s with a few random *ehem* #%@&! records thrown in...
that is so cool that you DJ'd! what a fun thing to do!!!
and i must say- i think they sound waaaaayy better than cds. you really can't beat that crackle! and just the art of getting the needle down right on every time. i am a champ at that, especially when i've had a few!
when i get the chance to get on the computer that has actul working speakers, i will so check out that link!
and i totally thought vinyl lovers were a dying breed!

Despite the pops and clicks from inevitable scratches, there's something special about the sound of music recorded on vinyl. It has a body and soul that digitally-recorded music just can't match.
I still have around 400 vinyl LPs that I've lugged around with me wherever I've lived (they arrived safely in Portugal, unlike some other stuff that never turned up!)
I've been lazy and haven't set up my record deck yet, but this thread has just reminded me that I haven't heard Ry Cooder's 'Bop 'Til You Drop' for ages. I'll put it together this very afternoon...

Hey Nevd, did you ever get the deck setup?

Hey Nevd, did you ever get the deck setup?
I'm so scatterbrained just lately that it didn't even appear on my 'to do' list. But thanks for the reminder.
Tomorrow I must:
- Set up the record deck
- Finish off my woodwork project
- Start a new picture
- Go and find a new large-size parasol (things are getting hotter in the Algarve!)
- Finish off the detail on the bathroom mirror I made
- Do some weights before Friday tennis
- Update my blog
- Clean up the house before my wife returns from the UK
- Cook (yeuchh!)
- Visit my adopted dog, who seems to have abandoned me since the weather got warmer (he now stays with his doggie pals near some local apartments)
Lord - I feel exhausted just looking at that lot!
I suppose I could always add:
11. Listen to some LPs in the evening, having set up that Technics deck
That's better!
