If by snapping at you you mean being rude, if they do that I'll edit or delete their post. But if someone wants to share a differing view or opinion, of course that's fine. That's what forums are for.

You note some positive points about landfills. Fine. But you don't say why this statement is not true:

"You should recycle everything, it's good for the environment."

For trash that can be recycled, isn't it better to do so? Doesn't it conserve energy to make new plastic shopping bags from old ones? New paper products from old ones?

Peter:monkey:

Obviously it is a good thing to recycle trash. I just meant to say that people who are adamant about recycling EVERYTHING that can be recycled do not need to be so strict about it. However, it's also worthwhile to note that you can get a LOT out of recycling aluminum, while recycling paper and plastic do not yield a lot. By all means, recycle...just don't flip out if you throw out a plastic bottle instead of recycling it.
It was simply an error of my wording. I should've explained more lol

Speaking of plastic bottles, I have worked out in a gym for over 40 years and I have always enjoyed walks to water coolers between sets. Now all these trendy people carry around their trendy little plastic water bottles.

If someone reading this finds some advantage to that, I'd love to hear what it is!

I'll byte

Tomorrow is Saturday and I've got two hours of classes back to back (combat and pump). I'm bringing 2 x 1 litre bottles of sugar-free squash. We get a mini-break every 5 minutes or so and I can sip something. Ocassionally I forget my bottles and have to run out of the studio to the water cooler which is outside. It is such a pain (the mini-break is a busy time, for example during pump you are changing your weights up or down) that when I forget my drink I just end up drinking less often and being dehydrated.

I guess if you are working to your own schedule then it makes no difference.

Oh, I don't put water in my bottles - the water cooler does not dispense apple-and-blackcurrant flavoured drink.

My gym has cold water fountains all around its perimeter, so they are convenient. And it only allows people to have water in their trendy bottles.

Broken forum software is a pet peeve, though on this ocassion the problems (which were only visible if you actually posted in this topic) were to do with the ghosts of non-existing users who are still 'watching' the topic from the other realm

Most vexing to me is when I am totally involved in a search for something, and someone says, "Well, where did you have it last?"  My reply, with blood shooting out of my eyes (thanks, Glenn Beck, for my new favorite expression) is "If I knew that..........it wouldn't be lost!!!"

I hate FWD FWD emails that tell me to

a) forward so that some kid with some illness will get five cents
b) forward to prove I love God
c) forward or else I will have a bad love life forever
d) forward till we have five zillion names and then send it to this email to the president (yeah, cause I'm sure they pay a lot of attention to email petitions)

Ebonics is a term created a few years ago by a group of black scholars, combining the words 'ebony' and 'phonics' and refers to the study of the language of black people in all its cultural uniqueness.  For example, saying, "ax" instead of "ask" or "I be ..." instead of "I am....."

However, it has now become used across cultures and ethnicicities.  For example white teenagers say, "like" followed or proceeded by any possible word.  Or "sup" instead of asking, "what's up"?

Again, my own pet peeve.

First, I apologize to those of you who hate a lot written as alot. Until spell check I never realized it was incorrect :>(

One of my million peeves -- People who would never dream about asking about my age or finances thinking it's ok for them to ask - when I will have kids (when I was in my 30's, or why I never had them (now that I'm 50), or didn't I want kids. For me it was my choice (oh my), for my best friend it was by tragedy. She wanted kids desperately and couldn't have them. When she was financially secure she did foster (still does). But those questions really wound.

The phrase - sticks and stones may break my bones but words/names will never hurt me.  It's the words we remember along with how we felt when we heard them. If we remember the broken bones we talk about them as badges of honor and don't usually feel the pain with the memory.

Smokers who feel the world is their ashtray.

Thin smokers who wouldn't dream of being so unhealthy as to be overweight. It's much cooler to smell like an ashtray, and ruin your health (and that of those around you) at the same time.

People who only read the first and last few sentences of message and then ask questions. If they had read the whole thing they would have seen the answer. (I don't mean the occasional oversight)

People who rant. OKAY I'll stop ranting now! ;.D

Some of these are hysterical!

I love the one about packaging. What demonic person came up with those hermetically sealed plastic coverings that take a surgeon to open?  Or how about the simple CD?

Here's one that most of you might not even know: people who shake hands really hard. I have arthritis in my right thumb and have been brought to tears by someone trying to make an impression! Watch it on the old ladies, gang!

How about when you go walking and  your sox slip down inside your shoes? GRRR!!!!

People who come up to you while your on the phone and start talking to you with out saying excuse me.

Receptionists who are on the phone who won't even look up while they are talking to nod or in some way acknowledge that you are standing there waiting.

People who feel the need to shout when they use their cell phone so everyone can share in their side of the conversation.

People who let their dogs run off the lead in public places.

People who don't clean up after their dogs on walking paths especially.

People who treat their kids as little adults. My friend's 5 year old is not my peer. Or is she.. got to rethink that one... LOL

I agree about cell phones! While it's not true at all, I think most cell phone users feel they have to speak loudly in order for the person they are talking to to hear them. For this reason, I think anybody that talks on a cell phone in a restaurant is rude, inconsiderate, and obnoxious.

Unless they are speaking as softly as if in conversation with the person sitting beside them, whom they are rudely ignoring!

Something I wish I'd actually done...

After waiting in the holding area for a flight for 30 minutes, all the time listening to this idiot shouting into his cell phone as he paced back and forth in front of the window, I had the thought to...

Catch him just as he was entering the plane so he couldn't talk back and say, loudly... hey, you look like you use a cell phone a lot. I just thought you'd like to know that they have newer technology now so you don't have to shout into your cell phone and have six dozen people hear your private business call!

Peter - love it!  Or another version of this idiocy are the alien ear pieces they wear so it looks as if the person is talking to themselves.  Of course, being the polite person I am assume they must be talking to me since I am the only person within a 100 yard radius and look directly at the person and say, "Excuse me, did you say something?"  At which time they rudely say, "NO!  I was talking on the phone!"  "OH!," I reply, "How stupid of me to assume you had manners!"

Here's another one...maybe it's my age but when did it become acceptable to wear your underware or lingerie in public?  Thong strings, boxers, cami tops?

More:

People who keep me on the phone for more than 10 minutes.
Houseguests who sit around and don't help out.
Houseguests who come for an hour but stay for 3.
People who borrow things and dont' give them back.
People who consistently order way more than me, but always split the bill 50/50.

fats, carbs, proteins

or rather, people who use the word "protein" to refer to meat and fish, or "carb" to refer to some potato, rice or pasta etc.

fat, carb and protein are macronutrients and almost all foods are made up of various proportions of these.

it particularly bugs me when people refer to bacon as 'a protein'. If you look at a 100-calorie serving of bacon, more than half of those calories come from fat. In what world do these people live?

Arghhhh.

I just thought of another one.....I hate when companys put stickers on their products that you can't get off. I bought some new baskets yesterday and it took me 15 to 20 minutes to get the stickers off. I don't have time for that kind of #%@&!....
