Do you mean whole wheat or whole grain? My noodles are both.
On the food calculator as:
Pasta, Fettuccine, Whole Wheat [Hodgson Mill]
But I think it should read whole grain. I think I'll add their whole product line:
hodgsonmill.com
They taste a little different than the white, nutritionless noodles we are used to, but taste great with a little tomato sauce.
BTW, it's whole grain that makes them really healthy, not whole wheat.

| I should say that the reason I am interested in the answer from Flip is because she is also in the UK - so if she supplies the name of a shop or a brand, I might actually have a chance of getting the product. Wheras there is relatively little hope of me coming across a US brand over here.

I am experiencing some frustration....lol
NOT LOSING WEIGHT.
Should I just enjoy my life by eating? Or put myself through more torture and perhaps not get any results...
Those are my two options...
Sorry I'm just in a bit of a mood....
and my waist to hip ratio is so high that i am supposed to have central obesity....
so i just gave in and had some chocolate! and now i feel soooo guilty...

If I wanted some chocolate, I would eat it. If I feel like sweets/candy, I eat it. The only thing is not to have it every second of every day. You shouldn't feel guilty. If you restrict too much, it makes you want it even more so if you haven't had chocolate for ages, then treat yourself!
Should you enjoy your life by just eating? No, because if your old life was so enjoyable, none of us would be here now. You shouldn't be going through "torture", unless you're doing something wrong. Are you enjoying your exercise/food you're eating?

Yeh you're right. I was just in a mood...
I like pilates, I do that every day. The only other exercise I like is bicycling, but I'm embarassed when i ride my bike I feel too old...lol
As for food, it was ok, but I was being very restrictive, specially with the carbs. I think I need to find a way to eat things I like in a healtheir way, like eat brown rice and brown bread and stuff.
I think I should take up aerobics...that's something I can do indoors with no one watching me...hehe

Great. I just did pilates yesterday because I didn't feel like doing anything else, and I'd totally forgotten how relaxing and claming it is, and I felt more slender afterwards. No way are you too old to ride your bike! I'd love to ride my bike more often, but I think my dad's worried it'll get stolen off me, plus the seat always hurts my butt...maybe it won't hurt so much now that I don't have as much weight to carry.
Great that you're looking for healthier options. I've started buying sandwiches for lunch so I get brown bread. I didn't even realise it was brown, because when I was younger NO ONE in the lunch hall wanted the brown bread, so the fact that with the right filling it actually tastes nice was a surprise. Good luck with that.
Good luck with the aerobics too. Just remember that even though when you're out on your bike, and you get that feeling that people are watching you, possibly laughing at you- they're probably not. And even if they did, it would be jealousy because they're not half as fit as you are, and will be. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters. I still feel subconscious if others are around, but hopefully one day it won't be like that anymore.
Sorry this is sooo long...

You know Nir? He rides his bike all over town--for exercise, and to get places. So, I'm pretty sure you aren't too old, if he's not

Aww thanks HS and CG:)
My butt hurt too at first, but after a while it stopped. I dunno if it's something wrong with the seat or just something you have to get used to.
I think I will ride my bike again. Even if I do feel self conscious, I'm pretty sure, like with the butt pain, I'll harden up and get used to it lol. And there are other adults who ride bikes around here too, (but usually they are superfit people wearing aerodynamic biking suits lol).
And pilates rocks! It's hard but then you're laying on the ground and it is really relaxing, plus I think my "powerhouse" (stomach) is getting stronger...

Hello everyone!
Im not really new to this site but to this forum yeah..
I decided to come and talk to everyone and that having people who are doing the same thing will help encourage me. I dont do well with watching my food intake and either do too much or too little. Its harder for me to get in some workout becuase im vacationing in Australia for about 3 more months so I was hoping to start my workout routine today. Why wait.
Im 20 years old..just turned 20 actually a while ago. And until Im 21 I consider myself a teen darnit!
I also thought talking to people was a good idea because I tend to overdue it and work out too much and eat too little. It got really bad and I put myself in the hospital once because I went nuts..
Now I have a better grasp of workout and eating and Im willing to start it again.
SO thats my boring thing..sooo Hi!

Hello DollhouseMafia! Welcome to the forums!
Lol, I really like your name. Brings up some rather disturbing images...lol!
Vacation in Australia! Ooh, fun stuff. The best vacation I've ever been on was to Disney world...lol...not that that wasn't a blast...
Any, welcome again to the forums, especially the teen forum. We won't tell anyone you are already twenty

Aw thanks for the welcome.
Australia is lovely but I would like to continue my workout routine. I took medications for seizures and they made me gain weight ..so im at 160 and now i want to get back to 140-145. Should have a lovely time doing that..
so yeah thats my plan..
p.s I love this name too. I go by Bella its just a nickname friends gave me so it was BellaMafia for a while now its Dollhouse simply because my fav movie is welcome to the dollhouse and I always sing the song to it..thus DollhouseMafia was born. But I like it..as u said kinda creepy/ disturbing.

DM,
I gained most of my weight from meds too! My was steroids though. So, do you live in the U.S. when you are not on super-fun vacations, or the U.K. or...?
So, what are you planning on doing for workout? I just joined Curves and I like to walk. I know a lot of people don't, but to me it seems practically effortless...

Hey CG, How is curves working out? I'm kind of skeptical about a 30 minute work out really showing results. I consulted a curves place before I joined a gym as an alternative, but I thought a circuit compared to a gym wasn't a full workout. I also asked if I could do the circuit more then twice in a row, and the lady told me that she didn't approve of it. How is it working for you? Do you really feel like you push your body while doing curves?

Well, Ella, like I said I just joined so I have only done one workout, ie I have no idea of the long term results, but I can tell you about the first workout.
I REALLY enjoyed it. It was nice, because you only stay at each machine for thirty seconds. I mean, you can do practically anything for thirty seconds. I thought it kept it interesting. And yes, I do think it will work, because today I was totally sore. My legs hurt, my chest hurts, my butt hurts
I don't have access to a gym where I am, so I did not "choose" Curves "over" a gym, but I do think I made a good decision joining.
Another member, Hisgal, is a longer time Curves member. You might talk to her, too.
Oh, another thing i liked was...between ever maching you go to a recovery board for thirty seconds, and you do something cardio there, like jogging in place or whatever. So, i had fun thinking of different things to do on the recovery boards: like jogging in place, V-steps, jumping jacks, and these little lunch typ theinks that I learned on Bodies in Motion with Gilad on FitTv.
So, I would give it a chance if I were you. I don't know if it is the same everywhere, but here we were given the option of trying it free for one week to see how we liked it (me and my mom) Maybe you could do that and see if it seems to be working..?

CG,
well I was on meds for seizures..sucks so bad I was never hungry and my favorite thing to eat was everything!!
Well just decided to up my workout routine I was swimming 3 times a week for anywhere from 3-5 hours and I lost some weight and trimmed down. Its just my last 15lbs simply wont come off!!
So decided to start walking/jogging/running more and eating less fat foods. I wont cut them out completely but moderation is good. The only thing I cut out is soda..I never drank much of it but it doesnt matter to me seeing as how its something I dont really need.
No fast food, but its ok dont like the junk too much. Just trying to eat sensibly

When I used to be 243 pounds and I started this weight loss journey I was very dedicated...but now at 212 it's like.......when I screw up, I'm always like "I'll start again tomorrow" But that tomorrow never comes. I always start off good in the morning, and then by the late afternoon I've induldged myself in treats to a most obscene amount. I can't control my eating habits. If I have 20$ on me, I'll order a pizza or something and when there's junk food in the house, I'll eat it. I've been stuck in the 200s and 210s for months now, and I just want to be dedicated and get to the 190s, but it feels impossible.
I guess I should probably start counting calories and protein fat and carbs. Or maybe just go on a diet diet. Or weight watchers or something. But I've heard people from weight watchers lose really slow, like even less then 2 pounds a week. I'm not even motivated to go to the gym lately because I'm not seeing results anymore. It's like I really need a diet and workout buddy that can go to the gym with me and be on the same page with me who's close to home, but I can't find that. And at my gym nobody there is my age or that I've seen, or they are but they're thin and it's like I can't relate to them I've been thinking of joining curves because it's more of a tight community and I could probably find friends there to guide me along, but I don't have 300$ to spend on it. Sigh. What am I gonna do? I really want to look nice for prom. which is only like 3 1/2 months away. Sigh.

I think you need a kick up the butt- I can't get to you, so you have to do it yourself.
You have to think back to when you first started, and remember how you felt. What motivated you back then? What pushed you to exercise? Have you gotten bored with what you're doing now, because then you need to switch it up.
Maybe you should stop carrying so much money with you. Carry enough to buy healthy food, but not enough for unhealthy options. Allocate enough for the week and stick to it. Pizza's going to put you right back where you started. You think it's hard enough getting to the 190s, but imagine how hard it'd be to get all the way back to 243 and have to come back down again. All the past few months you've spent getting here will be withered away.
I guess you'll have to hang pictures of those beautiful prom dresses all over the house as a constant reminder that you need to stick to this, but then you'll need to find more motivation e.g. bikini, cool boots, because obviously you'll need to continue after the prom.
Diets don't work because they limit your calories so you get NOWHERE. Plus, why you should spend so much for this curves when you already go to the gym and you get to use this site for free.
Recently on another website someone celebrated entering the 190s. She worked her butt off, and that's what you'll have to do too. It WILL happen, but you can't just allow yourself to slip back because it's hard work. The fact that it's hard work shows it's worth it in the end.
You CAN do this, but you have to stop getting the junk food so often. Focus again, and your weight will start to drop again.

Well put Heaven17.
You and I sound exactly the same Ella. We are both upset cause we aren't losing anymore...but the truth is, we both just need to kick it up a notch and shake things up a little.
Figure out what you want and how you are going to get it! Set yourself little goals, and promise little prizes! You can do this! You just have to refocus on what it is you want, slap yourself for losing site of your goal. Give yourself pep talks. Tell yourself what you are doing wrong, and then tell yourself how to fix it.
Okay, that sounds either psychotic or...something. But really! I talk to myself like that all the time. Now, *insert name*, you don't really need that candy bar. it's bad for you. You just ate lunch. Let's go walk on the treadmill instead.
And then sometimes I answer, "Shut up. You're an idiot, and I want that candy bar!" But sometimes I grumble and say "Okay, you're right." And i go walk on the treadmill.
Now that I have revealed that I am a raging lunatic...
Anyway, you just need to find that motivation again!

#%@&! i wrote something out and it didnt go it said error. Darn computer lol oh well Ill rewrite it. So I am quite opposite of what I ususally am. I did some wrestling with my friend who is trained in martial arts. I am too somewhat but switching to brazilian Jujitsu so yeah..Burned off nearlly 1000 calories doing it nonstop maybe a bit more so yay on that. Was running alot yesterday and did some crunches too so my day was packed with workout goodness. I ate about 6 times in small amounts so good on that.
Now I am hitting the gym with my best friend. A 5'10, 125lb aussie drill seargent when it comes to working out. She was on the basketball team they choose the olympians for but due to injuries couldnt compete on the Olympics. So now she has settled with keeping in shape and kicking my butt in the gym. Oh how fun..

Choosing between two universities (colleges). Hard. I LOVE them both. Went for an interview for another one and didn't get in. Don't care to be honest because on the visiting day (same day as the interview), I didn't like the course. It sounded restrictive and boring. That uni has a great reputation though, but that's too bad. That's 3 years of my life- I can't sit through it because it'll look good in the future.
I'm gonna make a list of pros and cons for each one, but I think I've already made my decision.
Starting to revise for my exams now. I don't want any last minute rushes like last year.

I'm just a junior (still another full year of school left until college) and I am already totally stressed about it. I almost want to throw up whenever I start to think about it. I mean, that one decision can decide how fulfilling the whole rest of your life is going to be!! I mean, that's how it feels at least. It is such a big decision, it is scary!!
I am between two or three right now...

Have you checked out the diet and weight loss tutorials yet? They are super good for learning about how to lose weight in the healthy way.
But, the healthy was is slow an steady, so you will need to find some patience
A good place to get started is to find out how many calories you need and burn every day... I can find out for you if you will give me your age, weight, height, and...you are a girl, right? Or, not...I need to know that.
Or you can find out yourself by going to the homepage, Calories Burned, BMI, BMR & RMR Calculator, and then to the BMR/ RMR calculator. If you do it yourself, if you will then share all the numbers with me, I will help explain them as it is a bit confusing.
But you should really read the tutorials on the homepage. they are very informative!!

But here it goes..I am indeed a girl, I am Im guessing around 169-173lbs, I am 5'5 tall, and Im 14 years old. Ugh, that sounds horrible..Need to get healthier.
I promise to stay on track and give patience a chance if you can help me out.I went to the site u sent me to, but I was hoping I could just be told what exactly I am to be to be healthy. I really appreciate all this!

The results of your calculations are: BMR 1,632 RMR 1,572 (calories)
For an explanation of BMR and RMR and important notes on the accuracy of these calculations, see Calculating BMR and RMR. We also explain why RMR is likely to be more appropriate for your needs.
As BMR and RMR only represent resting energy expenditure or calories burned during a day of rest, an adjustment must be made to reflect activity level. This can be done by multiplying by an activity factor:
Factor
Category
Definition
BMR
RMR
1.2
Sedentary
Little or no exercise and desk
1,958
1,886
job
1.375
Lightly Active
Light exercise or sports 1-3
2,244
2,162
days a week
1.55
Moderately Active
Moderate exercise or sports
2,530
2,437
3-5 days a week
1.725
Very Active
Hard exercise or sports 6-7
2,815
2,712
days a week
1.9
Extremely Active
Hard daily exercise or sports
3,101
2,987
and physical job
Use of these activity factors produces a very rough estimate. For a more accurate estimate, calculate the actual activities that you perform as described in Calculating Daily Calorie Needs.
Okay, so what that means is:
You CANNOT eat less than 1572 calories every day.
Before we go on---I think counting calories is the easiest, most effective way to lose weight. I know others will disagree with me...but it is working for me...I have lost 25 pounds by exercising and counting calories...other have lost even more.
So, if you eat less than 1572, your body will go into what is known as starvation mode. It will horde ever bit of food you give it because it will think you are starving it, and you will not lose any weight.
Now, let's look at the activity factor of 1.2, sedentary. That means even if you sat on the couch all day and did nothing, you would still burn 1886 calories.
Now, I like to use the sedentary number, and then add in whatever exercise I do. but you can estimate how active you are and use that number if you like. Makes for less work, but might also be less accurate if one day you are more acive and the next day, less.
So, here is what my calculations usually look like:
Total calories in: 1650 (how many calories I ate during the day)
Total calories out: 1625 (my sedentary RMR)+355 for school+ 215 for walking on the treadmill) 2195 burned total
DEFICIT: 545
The deficit means, obviously, how many more I burned than ate. You want to have a deficit every day, or at least most days, to lose weight
So. You probably need to eat around 1600-1650 calories each day. Then you can exercise to make your deficit bigger if you like.
If you have a 500 calorie deficit each day, you'll lose 1 pound every week. Losing 1-2 pounds each week is generally thought of as healthy weight loss. so, you don't want to have a deficit of more than 1000. If your deficit is that big, you need to have something else to eat.
Also, you probably realize that it is better to get your cals from fruits, veggies, and lean meats than ice cream and cookies (too bad )
Invest in some healthy foods and start taking your lunch to school, if you can.
Oh, also, eat breakfast. It really jumpstarts your day.
Drinking water helps a lot. It makes you fuller so you don't snack as much.
Talk more later! Keep asking questions, you are not annoying at all

You should calm down. I know it's scary, but even if you don't like the place, you could go someone else instead (hopefully). It won't affect the rest of your life because it's just four years of it. Wherever you go, as long as you work hard (which you already do), there's nothing to worry about. Life's too short.

Im a girl, 5'2'', trying to lose a few pounds. My favorite color (very sterotypical) is pink. I wear a size zero most of the time, 1 when I can't find anything else or want to wear something loose. Trying to be 00 or subzero.

Counting calories and only counting calories is never a good weightloss plan.
1. You WILL plateau.
2. You might loose some weight, but unless you exercise, your skin will be saggy.
You need some kind of physical activity in addition to diet.

I've heard debate about this. I've heard don't count, I've heard count because you need to know your deficit and so on. What did you do regarding diet?

You are right...to an extent...
COUNTING calories won't work.
And merely reducing calories won't work.
But, having a HEALTHY deficit every day or on average WILL WORK.
Naturally, of course, it will work BETTER with exercise...

I agree w/ you cg. I do think calories does have an important part in weight loss. But counting meal by meal was to hard for me. But their is a way without counting (atleast not counting obsesively). http:// www. youtube.com/watch?v=wkqW_AkXtZM
I like this guys way of thinking, (The taking away 300 calories and burning 200). But I do think for a healthy diet you have to eat healthy. I don't agree with when he says "eat whatever you want" If you ate 900 calories worth of ice-cream for the whole day, you may loose weight, but your body will be in bad shape.

I agree with that.
I meant you at least need to have some physical activity. Try doing something like walking for an hour a day, or less if you can't do an hour and work your way up. I lost 10lbs in one month from having a good deficit and walking an hour a day, followed by crunches and pushups.

HEY!
So I think that counting calories is a great idea, and I think it woudl really work. But I've come to a bit of a problem... Its just that I have more things to think about during the day than how many calories Ive eaten. I know, I know..I could work around that by planning what Im going to eat that next or the next day when Im not doing anything.. But my meals change all the time. My parents buy whatever is on sale though they have been better with buying healthy food. But im afraid if I eat only fruit, veggies, grains, dairy, you know all that...That I wont get the amount of calories that Im supposed to eat during the day and i'll go into starvation mode even if I feel full.
There is one more little thing I'd like to mention.. I was thinking of trying out being a vegetarian for a week or two. Following that, I'd cut down my bread intake and take protein or calcium or fibre pills. But at that point, Im once again doubting I'll get enough calories. But Ive seen a few slightly overweight or chubby people go vegetarian, and they look healthier and are at an exellent looking weight. So do they reach their calorie intake?
Oh sorry one last thing... I explained to my aunt about my calories Im supposed to have and that I NEED them to be able to be healthy and not go into starvation mode. I also said that I would lode weight If I exersized along with that. What I started to do was get off my sorry #%@&! and start walking with her, my cousin, and my sister for about 1 hour per day. That makes me end up eating dnner at her house (because my mom is working while my aunt isnt) and though she does make healthy meals because she is wanting to lose weight aswell...I feel as though Im not losing any weight. I suggested that because im so young, that walking isnt enough and that I should start jogging. But I dont understand why my friends who walk around alot are so skinny...
Anyways... I would like to go vegetarian for mine and animals sake, but am worried about my calories and everything else I mentioned...
