Hi everyone, I am a newbie here. I recently bought a max crossbar by weider ( sort of like bowflex) and exercise with it 3 times a week. The other two days, I use a Bosu and do yoga. I am 64 and feel better now than I did 20 years ago. I was doing lowcarb until the doctor said my cholesterol was way high. 334 actually. That was in April. Last week I bought one of the home cholesterol test kits and it (cholesterol had gone down by 100. My question is, are the home test kits reliable?
Any information is appreciated.....

Congrats on your progress!
I don't know anything about home testing kits, but I would guess that at least they're good for getting an idea and tracking progress. I know my doctor thinks tests from his lab are the most accurate, but I just had my cholesterol tested by at a health screening in Portland.
I was told I'd have to go on meds if I didn't get mine down from 267, and I got it down over 100 points in nine weeks! Just cut out fat and animal products.
I use a home scale that shows body fat percentage for the same purpose. In the same nine weeks I went from 22% to 14%. The numbers may not be accurate, but at least I know I'm headed in the right direction!
Does your home test kit just give total cholesterol? I ask because HDL and LDL and your "ratio" are also important. You can read about them on this page I wrote for my son-in-law when he owned a health screening business: nwwellness.com/cholesterol.html
Keep up the good work!
Peter
