Okay, so I bought some super expensive shoes (Nike) and use them to go walking. If I only walk about 2 miles a day (besides my normal routine) I'm fine. Today I pushed it up a notch and walked 3 miles during my lunchtime. Now my toes are killing me.
The toes next to the pinkie toes are curling underneath the larger toes next to it, causing them to hurt and eventually blister.
How can I prevent this? I saw in a running magazine some socks that separate the toes, kinda like a glove. Would this help? I'd like to increase my miles but I can't if my toes are going to blister.

You didn't say... are you sure they aren't too small?
Wish I had a solution. I used to wrap mine in white medical tape when I had a blister issue, but what a bother.
It's possible that you just need to break them in more... both getting the shoes more relaxed (stretched to fit YOUR feet) and your feet more accustomed to them. If you take it easy, you'll develop callouses where they are blistering when you overdue it!
My problem was that my second toe was longer than my big toe, and hit the end of the shoe. As long as I was running, I kept killing my toe nail and having a new one grow in. What a bother!

| never heard of toe seperating socks...can you buy them on-line or mail order only or could you get them in an athletic shoe store where you could try them on? another thing you could try is to reduce the sweat accumulation by changing your socks (if they are cotton or nylon) for a material that wicks the moisture away from your skin

Have you tried other shoes to see if the same thing happens. I use to get reebox and they killed my feet and were expensive. Now I wear Dr scholls and love them. My feet don't hurt and they are cheaper. Haven't had nikies since my school days. I never remember a problem with them, but I was never into sports then either.
But anyway, my point is that it could be the shoes not your toes.

I saw my doctor on Friday and asked about my toes. I have to run medical tape around two of my smallest toes to pull one toe out from under the other. She said the only solution she has is to either keep taping it or surgery to cut the tendons to try and prevent one toe from going under another.
I'm wondering if maybe this is hereditary. My dad's pinkie toe was completely cut off because it would tuck under his other toe. That was his doctor's solution back then, obviously this wouldn't have been done nowadays. I can't remember how old he was when he had this done, I'm guessing he was in his early 20s (he was born in 1928).
Anyway, the tape is helping and with exception of yesterday when I walked more than I should have I haven't had any problems with my toes since I started taping my smallest toes together.
I'm probably due for another pair of walking shoes. I may have to try another brand and see how it goes.

Gosh, I am sorry to hear that. I was hoping a simple shoe change would help you. I guess unless your up to surgery, I suspect you will keep taping them. I would have to agree that it is probably hereditary. Good luck to you and hope you keep on walking.

After reading a cycling post here I'm thinking about getting a bicycle to see if that would help my feet. I live 10.6 miles away from my job and I think it would be great to be able to ride to work instead of driving my truck (especially with the price of gas going up since I have a Hemi in my truck). The only problem I have is I work in an office. I'd hate to arrive all sweaty, plus I'd hate to wear my good clothes while riding a bike so I guess I'd have to put them in a backpack with my company's laptop.
I guess I should create a new post with this subject. Does anyone ride a bike back and forth to work? Do you work in an office environment?
Also, what kind of bike should I be looking to get? I'm not going to be racing. I don't plan on going offroad with it either, that's what my Jeep is for.

| That's a great idea! I would start a new post. I know there are people on here that do ride bikes to work. I work at home, so I only ride in the evenings for enjoyment.
