I'm thinking about buying a pedometer. Does anyone actually use one on a regular basis? Any certain brand or features I should look for? I've had cheapo ones before that don't stay clipped onto my waistband. Is that a problem everyone has or just the obese people?

Yes I am addicted to me pedometer and yes everyone I have tried falls off (usually because I forget I have it on and change clothes or visit the restroom). I have one from Curves that I like and one I actually got as a freebie from State Farm. I have a few others but these are the ones I like as they have miles, steps, and calories on them. I just use the miles and steps myself.
Hope this helps...

I currently use a very cheap one that I bought from WalMart and would like to upgrade to something a little better. I used to have mine clipped on my belt but I didn't like how visible it was. I also didn't like that whenever I leaned up against my chair everyone would hear a voice saying "You have walked..."
I took mine apart and clipped the wires to the speakers to prevent it from being able to speak. But that's what I get for buying cheap.
I still wear it, but I clip it to my underwear rather than my belt. Less visible this way. Every once in a while I forget to clip it on but not very often. It sits on my dresser when I get up so I grab it while getting dressed.
Anyone recommend a brand?

I have one that I use every day. I LOVE IT. You program in your age and weight. It's tells you miles walked to the hundredth, calories burned, and steps walked. It keeps a running total for one week. It was about $25 and worth every cent. It's not with me now but I'll get the brand name to you guys.

I figured out that if I sew a little piece of fabric through the clip and then use a safety pin to pin the fabric to the inside of my pants after I have clipped it over my waistband. This works great and I haven't had it fall off yet!
Sounds great DG. Looking forward to the name and where to get that. I like the running total for a week and also the fact that you can enter age and weight data.

Ok, I am late posting on this. But, I have had one for a year now. It's a cheapo from walmart. I just now am starting to use it.
Biggest problem was setting the thing. Took me forever and I am still not sure if it is right. I am going to try it again later today and see.
Other things is: Does anyone know where to get a decent one for a good price. I don't trust this stupid one I have (cheapo)
Also, Mine is rather small, and I clip it on the lace up of my shoe. That seems to work well. I hear it click when I walk, so I know its counting steps correctly. Plus, like I said, I don't trust it. So, I have tested it.
I would think there would be something easier to use out there besides this one I have.
So, everyone speak up....whats the best one for the buck.....
After reading the post...I don't want a talking one....

I found this link a while back and had planned on upgrading my pedometer, when I get the extra money.
Then again, the battery in my cheap WalMart pedometer finally died this morning. Might be a good time to go ahead and get a better one.

I ended up buying the following pedometer at Amazon.com
Amazon.com items (Sold by Amazon.com, LLC):
1 Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Ped... $29.75 1 $29.75
What is great about it is that it can be put in your pocket rather than clipped to your belt or shoe. (I've lost several that way) It also comes with software so that you can keep track on your computer via usb cable that is supplied. Also it keeps track of aerobic steps, regular steps, calories, etc. You can also set goals. Plus it has a clock too.
I found out about this one on a walking website and everyone thought it was the best one to get. After using it now about 3 weeks I love the fact that you can just keep it in your pocket and it seems to keep an accurate count. I highly recommend it.

I had to order something else through amazon, so thought "what the heck" I order the pedometer also. I hope I like it as much as you say. It looks nice and I like the fact that it says it resets every night. That should be nice. Sometimes, I take off walking and then realize, wow, forgot to reset this thing. Also, I like the software that comes with it. Since I am on the computer all the time, it will be nice to have a record of some sort to keep track of it all.
My next goal is to find out how big our track in town is. I haven't been able to walk on it yet (cause the high schoolers are having track practice right now). But, I am looking forward to putting in some time on it. I want to be able to just walk and not worry about pot holes or cars and what not.

Oh, I will. I hate waiting for stuff. I also order a headset for my phone so I can listen to music as I walk. It really sucks waiting for all my goodies.
But, after today the weather is suppose to be rainy. So, it will be back to the treadmill for awhile.
