Hi, I have a question? Have any of you tried the ab chair from the as seen on tv products? I'm planning to buy one to do some workout at home.
A friend of mine bought and she said it works great so far,
any of you have also get this product? It'd be good to hear some experiences before I buy it.

Thank you
Moni

Hi Moni -

I've used lots of such products in gyms and at friends' houses.

None of them offer anything that wouldn't be achieved by doing stomach crunches regularly.

Gadgets you don't need just clutter up the home.  That's why you see so many of them in garage sales and the local free-ads papers.

You can get a washboard flat stomach using only  an exercise mat or a soft rug.

Good luck

Here I must respectfully disagree with Nevd.  I had been doing tons of crunches daily for months, kept  upping the number of crunches, and could not see any muscle definition in my abdomen.  It was all covered by fat.  I also happened to have an abdominal hernia that was the result of a C-section two years ago.  Several months ago I went to my doctor and mentioned the hernia, because it had been getting worse and worse (bowel kept popping out and I had to manually push it back in:nono:).  He told me to get the Ab chair, saying that I needed to strengthen my core.  I actually didn't get the exact one on TV, but a cheaper knockoff.  Let me tell you, I was surprised at how I could barely do even one rep when I first got it.  All those crunches had done not much to prepare me for the Ab chair.  I am now up to 20 facing forward and 12 on each side.  My hernia hasn't bothered me in weeks, and my abs are very noticeable, even under the fat.  It seems to me that I have a kind of athletic look, despite the extra weight.

So, I would recommend equipement like this.  I use it every single day, religiously, because it really doesn't take that long.  I keep it in the basement and I do it usually on my way to do some laundry or something.  Anyway, I'm a believer because I really was also very religious about the crunches, and they didn't touch what the ab chair has done for me.

Touché!

Nothing will show your abs defininition (not crunches nor ab chair) while there's a layer of fat to hide it.

As for core exercises, I do mine using a swiss exercise ball (35cm diameter, to keep it less stable).  It cost me £6 (about 11 to 12 US dollars).  I wonder how much the ab chair cost...?

My point (how ever badly made) was that you don't need to spend big money (or frequently even little money) to get your training done.  Lord, how I wish I sold exercise equipment!  It looks like 'money for jam'.

I don't remember the exact amount of the ab chair.  Somewhere between $100 and $200, I think.  It did seem expensive, but since my doctor, who had nothing to gain from me buying it, recommended it, I decided to purchase it.

Possibly other things work better than crunches, like the ball.  I've never tried that.  I do remember, when I belonged to gym, a thing like a hanging chair that you could sit in and swing forward with your ab muscles.  You could adjust the weight, and it was really, really hard.  I'm sure that would get results too (and be even more expensive).  Many paths to the same result.

I would NOT call myself sculpted, but the contours of the muscles are evident underneath the fat.  There's not a huge amount of fat; add another 10 or 15 lbs and I'm sure you'd never know that I do ab exercises.

I was doing crunches on the floor, but it hurt my lower back. It felt like I was rubbing all the skin off. I got a mat; it didn't help. I doubled the mat; it still didn't help.  I just  wasn't able to do enough,  to do my abs any good. I started using a hyperextension bench/abs chair. It only took a couple of weeks to see a big difference.  We found a used one for $10.

That's more like a good price...

Except you have to wonder why the owner was selling it.

I forgot to add that the Swiss exercise ball doubles as a great footstool when you're vegg-ing in front of the TV.

My guess is that the owner had no tolerance for pain.

It is hard, but really doesn't take much time. And it doesn't take long to see results, as you mention.  To me, it's totally worth the retail price I paid for it.

It looks space-age!   It looks 'must-have'....

But seriously, what does it achieve that crunches don't?   If that arm lever thingie is for adjusting resistance...  I clasp a water-filled bottle or a dumbell across my chest when I'm doing crunches.

It's not even that I'm not a gadget person - I am!   (Perhaps it's because I've been working away from home and living in a smallish apartment).

That must be the same as the Ab lounger i have just ordered. I was told that if you don't do the stomach crunches properly your stomach can look more swollen, don't know if that is correct or not so that is why i have ordered the Ab lounger, just waiting on it's arrival

I just got the Ab Lounger and I've been doing the killer, on the floor, crunches.

The Ab Lounger is killer (in a good way, mind you!).  What a difference getting off the floor makes.  Regular crunches on the floor is a neck destroyer.  Crunches with a ball killed my neck, as well. I've had 3 spinal fusions done and don't care to whack that up!

With the Ab Lounger, your neck is completely supported, as well as no lower back!

I'm in heaven!

I was going to get a ball to try, since I am not a real fan of my ab lounger. But, you said it kills your neck. How so? I have stiff neck and shoulder problems. I don't want to get a ball if it's going to add to this problem.

Maybe, I should go back to the ab lounger. I didn't mind doing the ab lounger, its just big and in the way. But, now that its nice out, I can do it on the porch.

I can say, that I like doing the ab lounger better than crunches on the floor.
