I'm considering purchasing a pedometer. I am particularly interested in a high-tech version that claims to tabulate calories during your various daily activities. (See website at biotrainerusa.com). I have an active job, and I'm curious how many calories I actually burn throughout the day.
If I use the activity calculator on this site, I supposedly burn roughly 2700. Most other calculators (assuming an active lifestyle) put me at more like 1900. That's quite a difference - so which is it? I'm hoping a pedometer-like device can help me figure this out. Anyone have any thoughts on pedometers?

I actually hired one last week from the library and I am currently doing the 10 000 steps program, just to see how many steps i do at work. On Monday (the day i started the program) i managed to do 14 521 steps before 1pm . I am lucky enough that we can hire them, so i wouldnt buy one but, this one I am using i would say isnt a very expensive one but it does the job, it also counts distance and calories, and is the DIGIWALKER sw-700 . It is quite an eye opener to find out just how much walking u do at ur job, because for me it takes the pressure off coming home and exercising.
Hope this helps.. blessings and good health to you..

| Thanks, Lori. I had been curious how your pedometer experiment turned out. Glad to hear it went well. Does the model that you rented include a calories burned feature?

trimblebe, if you want to compare my calculator to others I think you will find mine unique in that my Tutorial explain everything from my sources to how it works to how accurate it is (and isn't!).
Actually you won't likely find such information anywhere else so a comparison at a technical level will be difficult if not impossible.
But you know what? Any calculator just makes estimates and as my Tutorial explain it would be just a coincidence if the calculations were right on for you. (Though I've received e-mails from people who have calculated calories eaten and burned for extended periods and said they were right on! So you never know.)
Anyway, the idea is simply to get an estimate to give you a place to start. Then you see how things go and adjust your food and exercise accordingly.

Another twenty eight days for me to go .. And to answer ur question, yes, it does have a calorie counter as well as a distance counter.. you enter ur weight and ur step length, and it does the rest for you from there.. once its set up, its just a matter of clipping it to your belt and forgetting about it for the rest of the day .. then at the end of the day, you write down ur numbers, and reset it ready for the next day..
hope this gives u some idea of how it works etc.. its very easy to use..

| I absoluetly love my pedometer that i got for christmas. I use it during my lunch break at work (That's when i take my daily walks). It's very helpfull when counting my calories and gives me added information such as steps taken and even has a built in am/fm tuner. I recomend a pedometer for anyone that's trying to lose weight.

Hi,
I'm looking for a pedometer in the uk that is effective and doesn't cost much. I've already got a Special K pedometer that I purchased sometime ago.
Please let me know if you have any recommendations.

I learned there're numerous types of pedometers out there: step, distance, GPS, calorie burn, and specialty pedometers. I'm thinking of getting the GPS Found this guide useful:

I bought an Omron pocket pedometer model#Hj-720ITC from amazon. Someone on here suggested it.
I been using it about a week now. I really like the software it came with. I can plug it in the computer and see different charts about my walking, calories, etc. It's really cool. It also will save the info. pdf format for me to look at later.
So far, it's been really good, It always right on with my treadmill and I like the way it resets itself everyday at midnight.
So, there's my spill on the best pedometer I have owned.

Ok, since I gave that thing a high review, It's not been accurate. Last night it was off, and I noticed the other day at the track it was off.
So, questions? How do you set these things so they are accurate. There's got to be a way.
Should I try setting it, then test it on the treadmill. It's not off that much. I walked two miles and it read 1.77 miles.
Any help from you guys would be great....
