Hi all. I've just stumbled upon this site and forum in particular, and have a few questions.
I'm an expat, living in the Far East, and stopped going to the gym because I was the only woman there, surrounded by men who did not speak English, and a gym owner who SMOKED in the gym all day. So now I exercise outside and at home.
I am quite heavy now, around 300lbs, however I do exercise. I walk at least 2.2 km per day. I've been also experimenting with jogging, the same 2.2 km circuit, jogging about 1/2 the distance, hoping to work up to the whole distance, plus more... I also teach an average of 4 hours a day, so I am walking/pacing in the classroom for that amount of time. I have started cycling, 2.2 km about 2 times a week.
Now, my plan is to focus on calorie intake, increase my cycling each day until I can bicycle to and from work (about 14km), do a lap of jogging (2.5km) and my regular walk with the dogs (2.5km) and 30 mins of weight training (3 times a week). I realize that it will take me a while to get to that stage, but I've got to do it. Now, we come to the problem.
I need some advice on footwear. I go through a pair of shoes in about 3 months. I've tried about 4 different brands, and most feel okay for about 2 months, and then my feet start hurting again. Obviously there is a huge strain on my feet (strangely enough I've no knee problems), I'm a bit flat-footed, and knock-kneed also. Being where I am, I've got no options at the time to purchase orthotics, but I need to find a decent shoe that is good for daily use. There is also no real "running" store, or a shoe store where the clerks are over the age of 17 and actually know anything about feet and shoes.
Keeping in mind that aside from the exercise, I do stand/pace for at least 3 hours everyday, does anyone have any suggestions? Most of the name brands are available here.
Thanks in advance!

Well, you may have to order online, but I hate the idea of not being able to try the shoe on before purchase. Amazon would be my choice.
For brand, I'm a huge fan of New Balance. I've burned through Nikes, Addidas, etc., but the NB's seem to hold up well.

I think you just need to go and try them on. I didn't like the NB! I was going to get some of them based on reviews but when I tried them on they didn't fit my feet right. I do have two pairs of nikies that have never given my grief. I have a nice pair of addidas that I can only wear for a couple of hours (not exercising). I have tried Dr. schalls and those are junk after a couple of weeks and cause me to have Plantar fasciitis.
Like I said just go and try a bunch on and walk around in them. If anything rubs don't get them.
