Would this be considered high or low impact Aerobics?
Note: The weights I'm using are probably more like 4 or 5 pounds, not 2.

I am not sure about this program but most walking sites do not advocate walking with weights, from Discover Walking -
"Walking with hand weights is a bad idea, walking with ankle weights is an even worse idea. Just because it may be a bad idea to walk with weights does not mean you should not add weight training to your walking program.
We have all seen people swinging weights while they are walking. Most likely they think they are burning more calories, but the fact is they would be better off dropping the weights and walking further or faster or both.
Walking with free weights can increase your blood pressure which is never a good thing. It also increases your risk of injury to tendons, ligaments, muscles and possibly your joints. Since many of us who walk are doing so because it is less stressful on our bodies than running, walking with weights makes no sense. Walking with ankle weights drastically increases your risk of knee injuries."
Have you looked at NordicWalking?

I think the amount of impact is defined by whether or not your feet come off the floor. In other words, running, jumping rope, and bouncing up and down are high-impact aerobics, while biking, swimming, walking, and all Leslie Sansone's walking videos are considered low-impact.
You can burn just as many calories with low-impact as high-impact -- it's just easier on your joints, the arches of your feet, etc.
I love the Sansone tapes and do the 3 mile with weights 3 times a week. Those small blue weights don't weigh enough to slow you down, they just add a little toning to your upper body.

What do you know about "5 days slim down" workout?
This system has been developed by Leslie Sansone. Her philosophy is “Staying fit shouldn’t be intimidating or expensive”. With her boundless energy and enthusiasm, Leslie teaches people of all ages and sizes how to get fit, stay fit, and feel better about life, simply by walking. She is one of the few fitness authorities who takes the intimidation out of getting in shape.
Choose between 5 different invigorating 1 mile walks or combine them together for all day fat burning that doesn't stop even when you do! This exercise program cranks the metabolism into high gear, presenting five one-mile walks that will burn calories and shed pounds. This workout will help you to lose weight, to tone your muscles and to stimulate your cardiovascular system.
The workout has been divided into 6 sections: warm up, walk, sculpt your arms, slim your legs, trim your tummy and speed walk. It is recommended to do warm up section each time you do exercises. Then you may choose between other five sections. Each section contains a one mile walk and everyone stimulate your cardiovascular system. They differ with groups of muscles they tone. If you want to tone your abs practice the second section, if you want to have flat abdominal practice the fifth section, if you want more stimulation for cardiovascular system practice the last speed mile.Last edited on 6 January 2009 03:17 pm by

I AM A HUGE FAN OF LESLIE, I STARTED WITH THE MUSCLE ONE MILE AFTER HAVING MY BABY IN 05 AND NOW I DO THE 3 MILE WALK AWAY THE WAISTLINE, THEN I HAVE 2 AND 3 MILE INTERVAL VIDEOS THAT I ENJOY TOO. I REALLY ENJOY TYING THE UPPER BODY INTO THE WORKOUT, SO THE WALKING AWAY THE WAISTLINE ONE IS NOW AT THE TOP OF MY LIST.
DO YOU GUYS KNOW IF SHE HAS ANYTHING RECENT THAT INTEGRATES UPPER BODY AND IS MORE THAN 2 MILES BUT LESS THAN 4?
I AM RECOVERING FROM A HEEL SPUR, THE 4 MILES ARE TOO MUCH...BUT THE 3 MILES 45 MINUTES ROUTINES SEEM TO WORK THE BEST, TIMEWISE ETC... AND NOT GETTING TOO REPETITIVE YOU KNOW??

Hey BDJ74! I just checked Leslie Sansone's website and she's got a lot of new stuff!
I have 3 sets of her old walk away the pounds and other program videos. They are all about 5-7 years old by now.
I'm sure there's something in her arsenal of videos that will suit you!

It looks like she has a 5 mile walk away the pounds dvd now-I lost over 70lbs using the 3 mile walk away the pounds video and then starting to walk on my treadmill I began at 10-15 minutes of walking per day then worked my way to 3-6 miles of running per day. The 3 mile is a great motivational low impact dvd Ankle and wrist weights are not good they can cause shin splints but Regular hand weights are okay to use in it 3-8lbs depending on your level because it is not typical walking its like low impact aerobics and you always have the option not to use the weights, she has someone in the dvd always working out without any weights too. The main thing about exercising is properly stretching for a warm up and then cooling down and stretching after too.
