Vh-1 has been running a perplexing series in which C-list or lower celebrities compete in teams to lose weight. Few seem really committed or serious. Most are downright rebellious. Evidently one has even dropped out, Jani Lane ex-front man of Warrant. Gary Busey, though, does seem committed and is even giving another contestant personal guidance.

This show both fascinates me and repels me. I'm not sure it is a meaningful way to motivate viewers to lose weight. My biggest quarrel with the show is that the over-zealous trainer/judges set extremely high weight loss goals each week, such as a typical goal of six pounds!  Six pounds in one week!!! Of course, the headstrong celebrities seldom come close to achieving such prodigious weight loss objectives.

Anybody here watching this show? It seems to run every day. It is hard to miss an episode because they run so often. If you have seen it or the first season which I missed, what do you think of the show or the trainers?

I have not seen any of the second season.  I did watch almost all of the first season.  I liked it, but there are alot of them that put up resistance.  And I am not sure if it is their attitudes in general, or the fact that they are being confronted with their "fatness" so like everyone else they go on the defense.  I have been meaning to watch it.  I think the Snapple lady is back on again, right?

I also agree that it is kinda like watching a car wreck.  You know you shouldn't slow down to look, but you just can't help wanting to get a glimpse of the carnage.

Yes, the Snapple Lady is back and is still having a difficult time losing weight. This week she managed only a pound of her six-pound goal. Actually, if I could lose a pound a week consistently I would be quite pleased.

It must be very hard to be confronted about weight loss failures on national TV, but they voluntered. The ones I pity most are the ones on "Biggest Loser" which is about to start a new season. I wonder how last season's contestants are maintaining their weight losses.

Weird. I'm replying to my self :(! Anyway,a thought has occured to me. Maybe the rebellious, smarty pants celebrities are TOLD to be that way just to add excitement and tension to the show. Even, Jani Lane, who has disappeared, certainly adds an element of drama.

These celebrities are trying to make names for themselves again and stay in the limelight. If they act naughty, rebellious, and throw tantrums, they will be more memorable than if they are compliant and follow directions. There's two ways to win on that show. Lose the most weight or make the biggest scenes.

Still, what is the "take home" for the viewer about losing weight. Very little, actually, other than it is almost humanly impossible to follow the strict and Spartan weight loss regimen set up for these celebrities by exercise, diet and nutrition experts.

I think they get paid to go on that show.  Sad isn't it?  Actually, I don't know which is sadder they have to do that or I lead such a fascinating life that I watch it! :dizzy:

I assume Wendy the Snapple lady and others don't lose weight because they don't follow their diets. I also think the interval between episodes is longer than a week because it's 16 weeks total and how many episodes and they're all going back to New York, Pennsylvania, Kansas, or wherever they live between weigh-ins.

But here's Phil Marjera, behaving himself and meeting his goals and losing the most weight. Who thought Bam's dad would lose an ounce? If he can do it, well, there you go.

As for Jani Lane, that's just embarrassing. He has a famous drinking problem and looks like #%@&! because of that. He's also going through a divorce and has apparently fallen off the wagon (if he ever got on). It's like why'd he agree to do this in the first place. I'm guessing because he had a new album to promote. I can't imagine why anyone would plan on making such a spectacle of himself or be okay with it. It's sad and disturbing. He needed to go to rehab, not on this show - but they signed him on anyway. Now, judging by the teasers I saw with Jani sloppily chugging a huge glass of something with two fat women in what looked like a bar and looking much heavier himself, he's just being humiliated.

That, I think, is the point of the show. The fact that Celebrity Fit Club and The Biggest Loser make the contestants go shirtless and wear spandex doesn't exactly not prove it. More evidence that it's not about anyone's well-being when Harvey called Jani "a waste of sperm." If the show cared at all, he'd be off - contract terminated, recommendation to seek help, end of story. But, hey, there's this other horrifying spectacle called Intervention on A&E that people are watching, so let's go ahead and show the guy who sang Cherry Pie killing himself.

The constant references to Toccara's boobs are equally offensive. She, too, is apparently into being humiliated and exploited. Whatever it takes to keep yourself out there.

Ok I hve only watched one episode.  And I have to agree with you.  I think this one episode is more degrading than the first.  I don't understand that at all.  Also I remember in the first season that Liv Tylers sister was on.  ANd Harvey insisted on calling her fat.  I am sorry but, I think they should be focusing more on their emotinal well being than they are, and I know that everytime someone made a comment about me being overweight in such a negative way I was more self destructive.

So what was the comment about whats her names boobs?

Oh, she and others are just always commenting on them - how large and heavy they are or how they get in the way, and the camera keeps zooming in on them and stuff.

It's true, the weight loss goals are at times a little bit scary but what really perplexes me is that some people actually reach these goals. I used to watch as a way of picking up tips but the show is more for entertainment than education. Unfortunate, I know.
