I love trying to find new nutritional packed foods to add to my diet for more variety and yesterday I found cream of wheat in the store. I had never read about cream of wheat in any health article, everyone is oatmeal oatmeal oatmeal, and the occasional other random alternative. I eat oatmeal all the time but I found cream of wheat in the grocery store and the nutritional label looked great so I bought it. But when I got home and did my research everyone said cream of wheat might be lower in calories but it sucks nutritionally because its refined. I was dumb founded and shocked that I would buy something so void in nutrition even after studying the label. So going with your instinct, which one would you guess is better for you, oatmeal or cream of wheat?
Well I went to my pantry to look at it again and compared my new instant cream of wheat to my old fashioned rolled oats. This is what I found...
So which one is better for you and which one would you choose? Well cereal A is the instant cream of wheat and b is old fashioned rolled oats...So the cream of wheat has more fiber, more protein, "less" sugar, and less calories. So why does cream of wheat get such a bad rap and why is oatmeal better...except for the sodium. Also the first ingredient for the cream of wheat is "whole grain wheat." So which is better? I found the cream of wheat is more filling also. Although I like oatmeal better. I just don't understand why people say cream of wheat is bad, and some articles even said it has no fiber....lies
According to http://www.cspinet.org/nah/wwheat.html cream of wheat is mostly refined grain. I'm not familiar with the product but anything that gets refined into flour (yes even wholewheat flour) is more processed than oats, which are only flaked. Oats have superiour make up in terms of what type of fibre they have (which helps to reduce cholesterol) that's what a quick search reveals, never tried it
