I've been trying to figure out how many calories are in sandwich. I've been trying to use the calorie calculator but i just wanted verification on my calculations.
Two large slices of wheat bread= (approx) 200 calories
Pepperoni - 1oz- 140 calories
Jalapeno peppers- 3 oz- 15 calories
Lettuce- 2oz- 10 calories
Total- 365 calories
~ Can this be considered an acceptable "mini meal" if i'm trying to break my calorie intake into four 300 calorie intervals throughout the day?
Thank you

I'm not answering your question but I couldn't help making an observation from your numbers... and I'm going to assume the bread weighs about 1.5 oz.
The bread and pepperoni give you 340 calories for only 2.5 oz.
But for the measly 25 calories of the veggies, you get to eat 5 oz or twice as much!
Just points out an advantage of eating veggies... besides the obvious health advantages over the highly processed bread and pepperoni.

Glad to get you thinking.
Still, I didn't mean to say the sandwich was bad, though you'd be hard pressed to find someone that would say pepperoni was a health food.
Also be sure the bread in whole wheat, not just wheat, as explained in the FAQ.

I REALLY want to thank you Peter.
I'd been planning to have that sandwich today for lunch. But after reading your post i decided against it.
Instead i had a cup of vegetable soup (100 calories), and a salad with cucumber, red bell pepper, carrots, crushed red pepper and lemon (approx 85 calories).
--And it was just as good!
Thanks again, TinkerBell

| Wow- I just had a slice of pizza for lunch and now I wish that I had read your posting first. I think that I'm going to start bringing my lunch from now on. Food for thought-no pun intended.

My school lists the nutritional information about their food choices online. What do you think about these banana pancakes?
Serving Size 2 EA

Depends on what you're comparing it to.
It's about the same number of calories as my breakfast oatmeal, but with about six times as much fat.

Hi TB3 -
The arithmetic isn't too hard...
19 calories out of 138 gives just under 14% of calories from fat. If all your meals were that low in fat, you'd be well on the way to a really healthy diet (and you'd shed fat that bit more quickly).
As to the sandwich that originated this thread - it looks fine apart from the pepperoni. I assume the latter was just to spice things up a little.
Try this instead:
2 slices of wholemeal bread
50 grams (a bit under 2 ounces) of cottage cheese.
Slices of green and red peppers (capsicum, I think they're called).
Spice up the mix with some ground black pepper and a liberal pinch of ground cinnamon.
Unless you're using VERY thick slices of bread, I calculate that lot to add up to 183 calories, being 66% carbs, 26% protein and only 8% fat.
Now that's a healthy sandwich!
(I have to admit, I just went and made one - it was delicious).
