I am starting a list of all the foods I want to give up for good, or eat very sparingly. Some of the foods I gave up long ago and now I am adding to the list!
- Red meat
- Diet Soda
- Dairy
- Processed Foods
- Enriched breads, pastas
What have you given up?

dairy for me
started out as a stomach-issue thing, but now I kinda like being dairy free. Although I hesitated to respond at first because I am not 100% strict about it. I'd say a small amount of dairy sneaks in once a week.

I figured some would sneak it about that often for me, too. I am going to use dairy very sparingly. Right now I am doing fine on soy.

That reads like it was involuntary rather than planned, Nir - or have I had too much wine again?

Well I have the whole-grain products over here: wholemeal bread in the freezer, popcorn kernels ready to use in the air-popper, some shreddies-style cereal and rye crackers and of course rolled oats.
However I never seem to reach out for any of these grain products. I'm always picking vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts and seeds. Whenever grain might have featured, fruit nutritionally have a similiar profile (high carb, low fat, low protein) and when I want to eat something lightweight and calorie-dense, nuts and seeds usually win the argument. Thus grains have achieved the same status as an unpopular kid who is never picked onto the metaphorical team. Well almost never.
I'm am not vegeterian, but meat has achieved similiar status as well. I am giving it some 'positive discrimination' to ensure I gradually rid myself of the meat stockpiles. I guess I'm also sitting on substantial grain stockpiles, too.

Nothing. I let myself have whatever I want...just try to limit portion sizes. Actually lately I haven't even been limiting portion sizes....because I am a pathetic loser who can't seem to get a grip on the edge of the wagon to climb back on...but anyway. When I am actually being a good little health nut, I eat something if I want it as long as i can fit it into my daily calorie allowance. (I don't know even know what my daily calorie allowance should be anymore...probably somewhere in the 1430-ish range? Wow, I really need to refocus)

hmm, lots of stuff on my list of "very seldom" (i.e. pork) or only occassional & in moderation (i.e. red meat, wine) but totally given up - just four really
1) fried foods
2) anything containing transfat or HFCS
3) refined grains
4) refined sugar
and #'s 2 - 4 pretty much eliminate 99% of processed foods

Sodas
Breads and pasta unless whole grain
Dairy unless non fat
Fried foods
Red meat for the most part - I had one lean steak this last month
Sweets
One meal a week I allow myself to have pizza which is my biggest vice. It is only 2 - 3 slices but it keeps me straight all week knowing it is coming.

I've basically given up any baked goods, processed things like cakes, biscuits and hardly have chocolate and don't have ice-cream. Only heat and eat meals I will have would be weight watchers as a back up. Don't have lasagne or tinned stuff. Also don't have ice-coffees - even in summer. I don't have take away or fried stuff. And I only had 2 mince pies in December!
I do treat myself occasionally with a piece of chocolate, if there is any in the house.

meat (including red meat, poultry, seafood- anything like that)
dairy
eggs
honey
I don't drink coffee (mostly 'cause I don't like the taste; if I need caffeine, I'll get it from a soda a few times a week)
uhm, I think that's all. the meat I gave up about ten years ago, and dairy/eggs/honey about two years ago. I don't know how but I've always been overweight and still am, darn it. who ever heard of a fat vegan ?

Probably the best diet of this type that i've ever come across is Dax Moy's Elimination Diet which was also used by pop idol winner Michelle McManus to lose over a 140lb in one year!
this is a complete no gimmick diet that will have you dropping pounds and inches faster than ever!

Not to be negative about this topic, but I just realized why I've never posted here.
I don't think about what I'm giving up, which would be a huge and endless list. When I am eating well, I'm thinking about what I am eating!
Just my way.

I don't like saying I gave up anything because it makes me feel nostalgia for the old, junk-crazy days. I prefer the term...shunned...or deleted.
My deleted foods include:
Anything from a fast-food resteraunt
Any chips, popcorn, or items from the snack aisle (excluding either Kashi bars or Nature Valleys)
All Ice cream (that was a tough one)
All soda....excluding diet Hansens or the occasional diet coke when I eat out.
Frappacinnos (also a very tough one)
Peanut butter....probably the hardest one that still somehow finds its way into my diet...but I'm getting there.

I've given up empty calorie foods for the most part right now, except sugar because I put it in my coffee. I don't eat white processed foods anymore either.
