I was wondering what caloriesperhour's take on milk is. I've been hearing a lot of varying things about it lately. I know that milk is good for you because it's a good source of dairy and it's good to have that in your diet, correct? However, I also know that it isn't the lowest in fat.

I just want to know the truth so I can tell who's lying...It's getting really annoying hearing all those Got Milk ads for teenagers when I'm also hearing from friends/other forums that milk=weight gain, even if it's low in fat! I'm not planning to shun milk or drink 8 gallons a day...moderation is the key:cool::wink::smile:. Really I'm asking because I want to know all I can about a healthy diet as I'm trying to get fit and get healthy (as I am a recovering anorexic/compulsive eater) so that I don't have to worry as much about my health on top of another 1 billion things!

I really appreciate the advice I've gotten here so far so what the heck here goes another post...:grin::grin::grin::grin:

skimmed milk has less fat than other types of milk. It is best to avoid the fat in dairy products like milk, cheese, cream and butter because the fat is mostly saturated. There are other concerns with milk (such as IGF1 insulin-like growth hormone) so some people think it is wise to avoid (e.g. swap for soy milk) or at least moderate their milk consumption.

I wouldn't say it's good to have dairy in your diet. But it's good to have protein and dairy can be a (good) source of it.

Dairy also provides us with cheese which is one of the most fattening foods you'll fine.
