I read so often that people trying to lose weight, drink A LOT of diet drinks i.e. Diet Coke etc...... I know they only have like 1 or 2 calories per can, but I thought the sweetners in diet drinks were very bad for your teeth as its acidic and causes acid erosion?
Has anyone else heard this, or suffered with their teeth as a result of drinking a lot of diet soft drinks?
Thanks Guys!

acidity will be caused by the carbonation, not the artificial sweetners.
incidentally, natural fruit juice (e.g. orange juice) is also acidic, which is one reason why it should ideally not be sipped between meals (and brushing teeth immediately after drinking is also not advisable).

I have read for years that the carbination can be bad for your teeth. Weaken the enamel I think. But my dentist can't see evidence of the fact that I sip Diet Pepsi all day.
But I also believe it stains your teeth, and mine are NOT white!

Apparently, if you drink it through a straw, most of the tooth damage is avoided.
Then, you only have the rest of your body to worry about!

| ive heard that the aspartane in drinks like diet coke can be damaging to your metabolism. my thinking however is that it cant be any more damaging than me drinking the full sugar stuff!

I tend to agree. As part of a campaign while you shed the weight, not to worry.
Once you reach your target is time enough to worry about aspartame. I believe it crops up in some of the protein drinks I've used for years, but the amount is so little, I don't lose sleep about it.

I read this thing on CNN not too long ago that if we replace our normally calorie filled foods with their diet counter-parts, you are actually more likely to gain weight because your body willl prepare itself to get calories and if it doesn't it will make you get more food! It's a relatively new study so I wouldn't worry too much. And this probably won't apply to you (if your actually trying this) if you don't already drink too many soft drinks that aren't diet.
Anywho, with reguards to aspartane, I heard a lot of bad things about that as well (so you may want to watch out for it just in case) but I can't really tell because there's a lot of contreversy over it. My suggestion for a good sweetener is Splenda, it really is good and I can barely tell the difference...but again...as always, do whatever works for you (if your actually going to do something).
