| So I started my diet and exercise routine recently but on the weekends I would still like to drink. Would having a vodka and a low calorie mixer ruin any chance of progress? I felt so guilty drinking last night.

It depends on how much you drink. 80 proof vodka (that's 40% alcohol by volume) is 231 calories for 100ml. In the UK you are served 50ml when you ask for a "double vodka". Obviously you'll have to make cutbacks on other calorie-dense foods on the day you intend to drink.
When drinking a lot of your calories from alcohol, remember that alcohol is not a health food. Your body regards it as a toxin which is why fat burning stop as the body directs all its attention on getting rid of the alcohol. You might be dieting purely to look good or maybe you want to be healthier and if so bare in mind that 150ml or more of vodka is considered by some medical authorities as "binge drinking".

usually 2 drinks is average. I use either the 16 or 18 oz red cups and about 2 shots, maybe a little less, per drink. I would only do this 2 days per week maximum but again I don't want it to hinder my progress so if I have to I will quit. Honestly its just hard because thats all my friends ever want to do and being the only one not drinking sucks.

Nir's answer was spot on! - The answer to the alchohol/weight loss question is all about calories.
However, we all really know that don't we? We know that if we reduce caloric intake, we'll lose weight; it's simple! The real problem is psychological. Why do you drink a 200 calorie drink, when you know it is contrary to your goals? There are social and physiological factors that must be dealt with.
And that is the real issue with weight loss - the way to weight loss has been proven over and over, but the psychological path has not been blazed.

I stopped drinking for a month and dropped 5 pounds!! I was having about 2 cocktails every Fri & Sat - I now indulge only once a month - but still just 2 cocktails (vodka & cranberry) I feel a lot better too as I am sleeping so much better!

I like margarita's too and found a light margarita mixer to use. It's Jose Cuervo "light" margarita mix with zero calories and 1 gram of carbs per 4 ounces. I like to mix it with light rum rather then tequilla.

Only if you drink in moderation and you watch what you order. Bring enough cash to only buy a max of 3 drinks. When ordering, I suggest vodka and a diet tonic or diet soda. Alternate with water so you don't have a hangover and it's less calories all together. Hope this helps, good luck!

So I found your question really interesting. So I did some more research on the internet about some low-cal alcoholic drinks. One drink that looked pretty good was Voli vodka. Apparently the lyte version only has 48 calories. Kinda wanted to check that out..
