I was a raw foodist for a year and didn't lose a pound. I felt very healthy and had great skin, etc... but I didn't lose weight. My husband did, about 15 kilos, and he didn't need to, he ended up positively gaunt. At our wedding last year he looks like a 90 year old (he was 34!) or a guy dying of AIDS.
I have heard however of people losing loads with the Raw food lifestyle, and I must say it has got to be the most healthy and natural way to live. I started because I found it through Shazzie's website and decided to test myself. In the end I stopped because I enjoy going out on the lash with my mates too much, and you can't do that and be raw. I also missed jacket potatoes and pasta and beans, etc...
Michelle from the fromsadtoraw website lost a LOAD of weight doing it...
It can be challenging, but also very rewarding...
Take care,
Antonia

Hello Madcow,
If you like, you could tell me what foods you and your husband were eating and I might be able to help. I truly believe that the raw food diet is the ideal diet for everyone if done correctly. But if you eat too much with any diet, you will not lose weight. I would recommend eating appropriate amounts, not mixing too many foods, and not eating late. And definitely exercise!Last edited on 25 April 2006 02:06 am by rawfoodie

| So you are a vegan and no meat but do soy? I do not like soy. I was a vegan for a while, then a raw foodist and as a raw foodist I did lose weight. It was hard for me due to family and friends were not into this at all. But meat eaters and junk foods also. I was a vegetarian before I was raw and I gained my weight doing that. I was a bad vegetarian and eat too much carbs instead of good green veggies. I dont know about you not getting any sickness but you will get less colds and flu's. I have heard of people with cancer getting on this and getting better but I would not want to push anyone cause that so serious so I can not say one way or the other. If you can get alone with out cooked foods or eating any flesh, try it. I am still trying to lose the weight I gain as a vegetarian not a vegan or raw and again I did lose as a raw foodist but I am now back to chicken, turkey and fish, no beef or pork and very little dairy. The raw foods are great for cleansing the system also. I still try to eat at least 70% raw. You do need to know what you are doing so get the info first and make sure you are getting in all you need. Hey. I'm gonna try on a raw food diet too! and to lose weight
Good luck
p.s- aren't fruits and vegetables soo much better? people that think of them as not tasty or satisfying and think of junk food as the most delicous foods trick their minds to believe that, but when u eat healthy- u feel and notice it's much better!!!
