Anyone familiar with the Ketogenic diet and how it works?  One of my officers at work has been using this diet and has been losing a great deal of weight.  She has lost about 30 pounds in the past month.  She said that she feels great and doesn't snack at all anymore.  She is on vacation for the next two weeks, so I can't get the info from her about it.

Thanks!

Katie

That truly was a waste of my time reading actually, it wasnt anything clear about ketogenic and honestly shouldn't refer people to that thread. It was just 3 people arguing about none sense and not one bothered to explain anything about ketogenic cause they kept contradicting eachother... According to WikiPedia
The ketogenic diet is a high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate diet, primarily used in the treatment of difficult-to-control (refractory) epilepsy in children. The diet mimics aspects of starvation by forcing the body to use fat rather than carbohydrate as an energy source. The body produces excess ketone bodies, a state known as ketosis. The "classic" ketogenic diet contains a 4:1 ratio by weight of fat to combined protein and carbohydrate. To achieve this, a number of foods are effectively eliminated (for example, starchy fruits and vegetables, bread, pasta, grains and sugar). A variant known as the MCT diet uses a form of coconut oil that is very high in medium-chain triglycerides (MCT; most dietry fat contains long chain triglycerides). This oil has a strong ketogenic effect, which allows some relaxation of the regime.

The efficacy of the diet has not been tested in a large, double-blind, randomised controlled trial. Such a trial is regarded as unfeasible and possibly unethical as meta-analysis of the many uncontrolled prospective and retrospective trials provides sufficient evidence to recommend clinical use.  There is some evidence that adults may benefit too, and that a less strict diet (such as a modified Atkins) might be effective.

Ketosis (pronounced /kiːˈtoʊsɪs/) is a state in metabolism occurring when the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies which can be used by the body for energy.

Anyways I also found a site charliefoundation.org/noframes/diet/overview.php that is very interesting it clarifies the whole thing if you did not understand the above mentioned.

To each their own but I would honestly think long term to eat all that fatty food can cause damage to your liver...Carbs help your skin stay hydrated and not become saggy when your losing your weight *obviously you have to work out as well to build muscle and firmness*. I think the problem with weight loss is that we restrict a lot in our lives that we don't have to, if we can all somehow just to manage not to over eat and count cals...*shrugs* I eat 900 max Cals a day w/74 grams of Protein and 17 grams of fat and I am still not losing weight so screw weight loss im tired of it all:angry: sorry for my random outburst
