Has anyone heard of this diet? I was reading tips on weight loss and saw this ad, lose 18 lbs in 4 days. I'm just curious, I've bought into so many of these things, hate to do it again. There are testimonials on the website, but I'd rather hear it from someone here. Please advise...thanks

I haven't heard of it but if it does work I can't imagine losing that much weight in such a short space of time can be good for you. :(

Good point, thanks for responding. I guess I'm so desperate to lose weight quickly, that I fall for some of these ads.

Aahh, Imagine all that lose skin from losing weight that quickly:nono:
Besides, its obviously water/muscle loss..
I wouldnt bother having to even think about it, if losing weight was that easy and it could happen within 4 days, im sure most gyms would be pretty empty.

No, LOL, I doubt that the gyms would be empty.  Most people that I know who go to the gyms are in pretty good shape. They go to maintain, not necessarily lose the weight.

even if it is possible...it's probably some pill that completely drains your body of every ounce of fluid....and will soon be back....i just purchased something online...it's called advanced diet secrets....you lose 7 pounds every 8 days....very easy to follow...very healthy....you can quit after 8 days and then it tells you an EASY way to maintain...or you can keep going until you lose all the weight you want. i was skeptical about this as well...but a lot of people on here tried and and say it's great! give it a try....40 dollars but well worth it. i'll let you know how it works for me.

...for those of us who want to lose weight fast)....wait a week and i'll tell you how it goes for me. i'm starting june 1st...shopping for it tomorrow. june 8th i'll let you know if you are interested.

Losing 8 pounds in as many days seems an unhealthy approach...

It's not what you want to hear when your wish is to lose as fast as possible, but those people I know who slimmed down and stayed that way all did it at an average rate of 1 to 2 pounds per week.

You don't want to lose weight.   You actually want to lose body fat.   That's best done at a steady rate, to which the body can accommodate itself.

You can only burn so much fat in 24 hours.   The rest will be water and muscle.   Bad idea, that!

As someone who tried (and failed) with just about every quick weight loss scheme available, I'm here to tell you that steady is best (and the only way to lose body fat without sacrificing anything else in desperation).

Good luck,

NevD

if you go to the page...it explains just how with this diet you are losing body FAT.....and look at the plan....there is nothing unhealthy about it...very easy to follow as well. the variety of foods are supposed to work to kind of trick your body into losing fat. Once you lose the weight you want....tehre are a couple different ways to maintain. very simple....no gaining it all back.

Coloradonay,

I'm sorry, but I do agree with all of the other replys. Isn't it amazing how we can convince ourselves that this one is the "magic pill" or "magic diet", even though we know darn well that all of the science out there says its a bunch of hoowey? When our bodies return back to its original size (maybe even a little bigger) and all we're left with is that depressed failure feeling, its a sad day. Its not right that these companies feed off our desperation. As someone who has done this more times that I will ever admit to, may I make a small suggestion? Just think back to Jan. 1st 2006. If you would have eaten just 300 calories less per day, you would weigh approx. 13 pounds less today. Make it 26 pounds if you decided to burn off 300 calories per day. Both of these requirements are very easily done. I think most people fail at weight loss because they try to pump these numbers up thinking that it will happen even faster. The truth is, YES, it does work faster, but can you maintain it for a lifetime. Go at a rate that you really don't notice. By the way, I didn't invent this idea, its just plain old math. This site helped me tremendously 4 1/2 years ago and I still use it to this day. I have no idea how what your weight goal is, but if you have a lot to loose, this approach really worked for me.

hey ex-

I know, I know, you are absolutely 100% correct. I was looking for that magic pill or diet. This dieting thing has just come about for me in the last couple of years. I used to keep active and never worried about my weight, then one day I woke up and couldn't zip my jeans and find myself 40lbs overweight. I've bought into a lot of these hype ad's, got a cabinet full of pills and have tried different diets. The only thing about the calorie thing is that I've read that it doesn't work because your body adjusts to the new calorie count.

That's right, if you cut out too many calories at once (i.e. practically starve yourself) then your body (your metabolism) adjusts. So instead just cut calories by a little (somebody suggested 300 calories, above) and you'll get slow and steady fat loss. There is also the idea of "lapse days", "zig-zagging", "cheat days" - which are days where you don't cut the calories, to remind your body of what it is used to.

Hey Nir, I recently read up on zig zagging.  I have had success with the Idiot Proof Diet and was looking for a way to add variety back into my daily eating and maybe still take off a few pounds.  I believe that the diet I was on used this way of manipulating calories as well.  I plan to start a regimen that consists of zig zagging my caloric intake after the holiday weekend.  I don't want to lose much more weight, maybe 5 lbs or so but I do want to lose fat.
Do you have any advice about zig zagging for fat loss?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jayelle

If you are willing to count the calories you're eating: figure out your maintenance calories given your gender, age, height, current weight and activity level (the RMR calculator does this for you - see link at bottom of this webpage). Then you're aiming for something like 5 days at low calories (say 15% less than maintenance) and 2 days at your maintenance [the weekend?] or 3 days low calories followed by one day at maintenance. NevD has a lapse-day system that he uses himself; Peter is reading Tom's book (the one he's recommending) which I believe mentions Zig-Zagging. I myself haven't done it (unless accidental bingeing counts :)). Of course, my new thing this month is to see if I can make it without counting calories. I'm also trying out bits of ETL (Eat To Live) but without fully jumping on it just yet. My weight is up, but this is probably muscle and water (there is a lot of food involved). I'm trying to keep an open mind, rather than panic. I'm doing my best to resist the temptation to go back to calorie-counting. I know that it works but it wasn't teaching me how to make it in the real world!

According to Tom Venuto's Q&A site, zig-zagging is:  "a few days of higher calories and higher carbs followed by a few days of lower calories and lower carbs. On the low calorie/low carb days, you lose body fat rapidly, and before your body can adapt, you raise the calories back up, which increases your metabolic rate"  He does emphasize that the higher calorie/carbs should come from nutritious sources - just more of them on certain days.

Thanks Nir, I have actually done that and came up with my maintenance calories and have used an online zig zagging calculator to get a break down of how it should (or at least can) be done.

I have never actually counted calories on my own, ( I recently when taking a break from the IPD foods, used a menu that was calorie based) but even then it was all done for me.  How do you all get on with calorie counting when you eat out?  Do you just guestimate?

Thanks again,
Jayelle

I used to take my portable scales with me (I've put a picture of them up in my diary a little while ago), and then either looked the package up (if this was a demo of a product for sale) or used my calorie-counting book to look up what 100g of the food would be. Sometimes I'll just have to guesstimate that number:

e.g. nuts: 600; chocolate: 530; biscuits/crackers/peperoni: 500; sweets/cakes: 400; sausages: 300 etc.

If you can do it in a way that doesn't take too much effort, perhaps you won't go off the rails in the way I did :)

THIS DIET IS A RIPOFF. It may work for some, but did NOT work for me--even after 4 days of torture, sticking to it, with hardly any food. The writer, James, refused to give me a refund. I demanded it in 5 days, I gave my paypal receipt.. wrote him 5 times, and he just refused the refund completely. PLEASE stay away from this one--you will be glad you did. It is a lie and a dishonest person.

18lbs in 4 days is a horrible ripoff.
Don't try it!. It's not only un-healthy but it's life threatening.
The tops anyone should lose in 4 days is like 5lbs. no more then that.
I mean seriously? Anyone who is willing to try this is stupid. no offense.
Because your putting your organs and heart at a very HIGH risk.
Try just cutting down calories and doing a little bit of walking each and every day.
Try eating 1,800 Calories, then move down to eating 1,600 Calories a day. (No less).
And you will be fine. Instead of eating fried greasy foods, eat grilled yummy foods. :)

18lbs in 4 days -

it does actually work.  I completed my 4th day and im repeating it for another 4 days as pescribed in the diet.  okk i din't lose 18lbs in 4 days but i lost 8lbs.  and i can assure you that the weight loss was not water or muscle loss it was actual fat loss.  i weighed myself on the body analyser, and my fat percentage and weight has gone down, and my muscle and water % has increased and i did no excercise (i'm going to do hardcore excercise during the maintenance plan), just go to work and walk home.  I was desperately looking for fast and healthy weight loss came across it and thought id give it ago.! i'm in the obese category like 170pounds that's rpobably why it worked.  so if your thin already in the normal category for your bmi, it won't work!!   its a little hard followin the diet expecially 3rd and 4th day your in the toilet all day its not nice.  i would recommend it for those who are very overweight and the plan is good because there's no salads! and i hate salads with no dressing, salt oil.  its all about steamed and boiled veg. no carbs. lots of protein.  and i actually looked into this diet, in which he mentions how food cancle each other out and i found that its called "food combining" in which there are a lot of articles and websites, books about it.

ill let everyone know how it goes after 20 days for the results.  and i haven't cheated once and eat every single bite (even if it makes me feel sick -like celery or tomato juice errrrgghhh)

good luck to everyone that will do it, please write to this forum to say how it went and the results.
