Thanks Grangers and Hiker---

I just decided that I am fed up with struggling and feeling like I am on a diet for a year and a half now. Its time to actually be on a serious low cal diet and get this over with once and for all. The last time I got to my goal weight (back in 10th grade) I stayed slim for 13 years. I just need to get there.

They are both so cute, which one is Saint? I have 3 dogs and we take them to a conservation area on Sundays. Not an official dog park but always lots of dogs and they can run off leash. I think it is so good for them to get some off leash time. And great exercise for them and us too .

Hiker, Saint is the big one. He's an Anatolian Shepherd that weighs 120 lbs and strectches out to nearly 7 feet long toe to toe. He has a nice sized fenced yard with woods, but every now and then I take him to the dog park to meet the other dogs. He is always the biggest one there, except for once he met a Great Dane that was his same size. His laid back personality gets him all the attention when we go...

sneak peek of my upcoming 'success story'...

Journey start 243 lbs.
Weight in photo 213 lbs.

This photo taken 1.5 years after I started my weight loss journey and working out.

Photo represents a drop of only 30 lbs in overall weight,...HOWEVER, that 30 lb. drop in weight approximates a loss of 42 lbs of fat, and a gain of 12 lbs muscle.

Hitting my stride now. I'm back into my gym routine after taking a few weeks off. It's amazing how much strength you can lose with 3 weeks of no gym. I would guess I lost nearly 15% of my strength during that time. Hopefully it will quickly come back though.

I yearn for 199 REALLY BAD. I have got myself to 200 twice now, and never hit 199-only to balloon myself back up to 220...TWICE! I will not let that happen again! I need to perservere and hit that 199, because I know once that happens, my ultimate goal of 180 will not be that far behind. 200 is my current obstacle and nemesis! Its 199 and beyond....there is no bust.

Remember what you said before, about time passing quickly?

I'll bet those 3 weeks went by in a flash didn't they?.   In just 3 more weeks you could probably hit 199.9.

Don't quit for 3 more weeks and see.   You can do it!

Tour, it sounds like you really want it to happen therefore it will. It may take a few weeks but as long as you are going down or at least holding you will make it. I took 2 months off from didn't start again where would you be? You can do it this time, I am pulling for you and I am sure many others are too.

204.8 this morning. 24.8 lbs to completed goal. 4.8 lbs to go before I break a barrier that has been tormenting me for the last year.

I'm eating way less than I was previously during my weight loss. Way less, and the weight is falling off like it is supposed to.

I've also started playing some tennis again, which is a heck of a workout in itself. The amount of sweat created from playing hard tennis for an hour or two is remarkable.

A lyric of Aerosmith is "Life is a journey, not a destination." This is what I aspire to incorporate into my own life. I can't put my happiness off until I reach some goal because last year my goal never came. I think when you can find happiness in the journey to your goal, not only will it make things much easier, but you can be happy now. It's win-win.

For some reason I have always thought your were a gal and not a guy. I really don't know why. I think it maybe the eye pic for some reason. I seem to be on a similar path to you in that I get near my goal and sabotage for some unknown reason.

I like the above quote. I read an article recently about people who lost lot's of weight and became depressed because they thought they would be happy slimmer. Your right it's a day at a time. Good luck and I hope to reach my goal this year as well.

204.2 today.

John, I have read some of those articles also about not being happy when thinness is reached. I certainly hope that does not pertain to me. I don't think it is being thin that will make me happy, rather what being thin will do for me in the long run that will make me happy. Energy, outward appearance, relationships, feeling good in my own clothes, being proud of my fitness level, and feeling attractive to the opposite sex (which I have'nt felt that way in a very long time).

May 24th, 2011.

I am still alive. Hanging in there on the weight 201 lbs this morning. I've been playing lots of tennis and golf, but a wrist injury has me not having been to the gym for over a month. I'm kind of afraid of the weight lifting and my wrists. It is unusual that the golf & tennis doesn't seem to bother it though. The act of a push-up however is painful.

My goal of 180 lbs. is a LONG TIME in the making, but I have not given up. I think my diet has changed quite a bit with relation to portion size. My new 'normal' way of eating is far less than what it used to be. I am satisfied and full with literally half of what I used to eat. Perhaps this can be attributed to me being at this lower weight now for like 3 or 4 months.

I do feel thin to a certain extent. I'm fitting into 34 jeans. My old clothes of 31/32 will only fit if I get to the 180 for sure. I've now been posting on here for quite a while, and I have learned a lot during this whole process. People are always wondering what is the most significant thing to being successful at weight loss. While the real answer is more 'mindset' related (getting yourself in the right frame of mind), the literal interpretation is other factors like: eating healthy foods, exercise, eating smaller meals more frequently, etc. However, if I had to pick only one thing...it would be portion control during meals. The quantity of food eaten at one sitting is by far the most important. I think it is better to graze throughout the day, then to burden yourself down with a couple heavy meals. By doing this, you help yourself to forget about food. You are able to eat less when you do eat, and you don't have that sluggish feeling when you are done. I think it is the one thing that sets everything in the right motion.

I have been feeling much better about myself and my confidence is high. I have met a beautiful woman and things are going great (I have high hopes for a future with her). I am 100% over my ex, and moving on! I will be rejoining the weight loss challenge to try to get down to the goal weight once and for all. I will be attempting to go to the gym today and see if I can handle lifting weights again with my sore wrist. If not, I will simply do the stairclimber or the elliptical machine. I need to get back into the habit of going, because it does give a euphoric feeling when you finish.

Hey Tour, nice to see you back and it's great that things have been going so well for you. You have worked hard to get to where you are today and I am happy to see you enjoying it. I totally agree with you on the small meal thing. I do much better when I eat 6 times a day. I don't like to call them meals becuase for me they really are not, basically I do 3 small meals and 3 small snacks. It stinks about your wrist but I am sure in time you will be able to get back to your full routine. For now tennis and golf sound great.

Thanks Hiker:wink:

I went to the gym yesterday and my wrist held up just fine (though I only used about 70% of the weight). So that is good news. The bad news is that I no longer have any excuse to not be going to the gym...lol.

I watched the final of the Biggest Loser last night. I was happy with the results. There were quite a few amazing transformations, primarily the top 2 finishers. Unbelievable. Perhaps because they were young, they shrunk down nicely and back to normal. Most of the other contestants looked like deflated balloons and had lots of excess skin on their arms and chests. I thank my lucky stars that I never got to over 60 lbs overweight, because I think that is a fate reserved for massive losses of over 100 lbs. The top 2 however (which I wont spoil-in case you haven't seen it) looked amazing, and are very inspiring for me to go beyond where I'm at right now and get the last bit of weight off. I don't want to be content yet with my results. The last 15-20 must come off!
