I started using Google Calendar in August - both for the things that I do and for reminders (having tried Google Tasks but fallen out of love with it).

Deleting a non-recurring reminder is trivially easy and undoable operation (hitting the 'DEL' key) so I went defensive and made most reminders into recurring events. No material change when looking at today's schedule but there is a price to pay when figuring out if I'm free on a particular day in the future, because dates far into the future are already clogged up with my daily reminders.

Today I snapped and began changing many recurring reminders back into (the more accidentally deletable) non-recurring events so that I can "see the wood for the trees" more easily (at least a few weeks into the future - it is always going to be clogged up for the immediate few weeks), compensating for this by reviving my APPT_BACKUP.TXT as a place to jot down some of these so I can periodically recreate any events that I do end up deleting.

Simple but time consuming

So, am I OK with weight gain?

I spent a few months this year (March and April mainly) -digging myself out of a hole of hardly eating any calories - I started counting 'grams' (my own unique simplified system - a cross between calorie counting and a point system) in during March and April those counted grams went up from 300g to 550g as I continued to lose weight.

I then continued to increase my intake (all the way up to 650g - still in 50g increments) and during these 2+ months my weight climbed back up. I then (slowly and cautiously - in 25g increments over these last 3 months) reduced intake down to the present level of 525g. The overall result for these last three months is somewhere between 'stable' and a slight weight increase.

I've got back to look at snapshots of my 'declared views' at the beginning of each challenge. At BMI>20 I was focused on returning to '20'. When I fell below 19.5 I thought I ought to go up to the 19.5-20.5 range (why? not really sure!) Right now I'm only about 1/4 of the way 'in' to that range but I am mourning the extra food that I thought I could have but which ultimately led to recent gains. We're only talking about 3lb gain though.

I am lifting a little heavier in the gym and I want muscle gain but I don't like to see upward movement on the scale. I am just a bit nutty that way. I also like food and I don't think that going down to (say) 400g is for me (but never say never). It was useful to do this exercise to remind myself that despite recent gains I am still slim, I have been relatively stable over the last 3 months, I am at the lower end of a narrow range of 6lb that I had previously defined for myself and all is well.

Just keep telling that to myself

I keep getting drawn towards researching all things mobile phone

I am currently paying £5.10 a month for mobile broadband through a 'dongle' on Orange. I know that the SIM fits my phone and I've not been surcharged for using data on the phone, so in some sense considering these services as equivalent.

Network 'Three' advertises that it allows 'Tethering' with its tarrifs. It isn't completely straightforward but for years I have been going through e2save.com to get cashback. How much are Three's tarrifs with cashback (as a total solution for my talk and data requirements)? all packages have unlimited data and 5000 texts, current prices are (500 min £11.75, 1000 min £13.66, 2000 min £13.75). Conceivably I could then terminate my landline and broadband.

Or can I just replace my mobile broadband dongle with a contract that has data? overlooking the number of minutes and texts, what are the cheapest contracts available with various amounts of data? unlimited £10.66, 1.5GB £7.53, 1GB £3.74, 500MB £1.25, 250MB £0 (that is quite the unexpected disproportionate jump in price from 1GB to 1.5GB)

The recent price hike I experienced tells me I need to consider that risk. £1.25 looks better than the £5.10 I'm paying but is the £92.40 saving (calculated over the length of the 2-year contract) worth the time, hassle and stress that shall be generated? There is also the possibility that somehow tethering and/or using SIM card in mobile broadband dongle will just fail to work or be detected as disallowed usage and possibly surcharged. Then in addition to hassle I've also written off at least £1.25 x 24 = £30.

Thinking about someone who has lost their phone, one of the cheapest ways to get a cheap phone is to get a cheap very-few-minutes CASHBACK contract. For examples:

100 minutes (£0 a month) http://www.e2save.com/mobile-phone/contract/samsung/Samsung-E2121B-refurbished-Refurbished.html?network=talk+mobile&tariffcode=EK75TJUL12

200 minutes (£1.25 a month) http://www.e2save.com/mobile-phone/contract/nokia/Nokia-100-Refurbished.html?network=talk+mobile&tariffcode=EK754JUN12

300 minutes (£4.05 a month) http://www.e2save.com/mobile-phone/contract/samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-Apollo-refurb.html?network=t-mobile&tariffcode=T208EMAY122

It is difficult to find something good to say about the Vodafone network. In my locality the mast was down for most of last week and for three days I was not contactable.

Today my friend them to sign up for the the "Euro Data Traveller" scheme and in the process they removed from him his "Stop The Clock" scheme which was only due to be phased out at the end of the month. So he called the ask for this to be restored and in the process of making the complaint call he got disconnected - they didn't just hang up on him, his SIM card was no longer registering with the network. Using another phone he rang his own number and got through to some woman (and asked her how it was possible that she now had his number - she was also inconvenienced as her phone spontaneously got renumbered meaning her contacts could no longer reach her on her 'true' number). What a mess!

When speaking to both family and friends about my autism (both in general and regarding Sensory Sensitivity issues in particular) I am getting a lot of indifference that is difficult to stomach. Very much in parallel with the sympathy and understanding I am not getting with respect to my weird and wonderful relationship with food. It is interesting to be getting better treatment from people who know me less well.

My last food-related spend was September 16th - that's nothing spent in 3 weeks. I am using up existing staple stock (like popcorn, peanuts, raisins, oats etc.) and fruits/veggies/beans from the fridge and freezer. Dad has even provided me with more produce from his allotment. My default position is to not spend money on food unless there is a good reason to - I'm waiting for a good deal on avocados (currently 4 for £1 which is far from good)

I feel a bit 'off' and a hand to the forehead left me wondering, after a bit of procrastinating I started shaking the thermometer and took my temperature (orally) - got 37.6C. The thermometer box says 37C is normal and to seek medical advice at 39C. Mum said that when we were kids the advice was to take paracetamol at 38C but she didn't know if advice had been updated.

The first reference I found defined fever as 37.5C oral (38C rectal), and suggested taking something.

I decided to continue in a bit more depth

http://www.whale.to/drugs/paracetamol11.html

http://www.sharecare.com/question/should-medication-reduce-fever

http://www.entheos.com/blog/entheosacademy/60/Super-Immunity-with-Joel-Fuhrman-MD-Week-4---Cold-and-Flu---What-We-Need-to-Know

So now in addition to not using paracetamol unless 39C or over, the suggestion is not to drink unless I'm thirsty and to eat less (to reduce stress on the body). "We assist this renewal by thorough rest, which includes not eating much or not eating at all." http://www.drfuhrman.com/library/bulletin/January07_Whats_Cooking_Bulletin.html

I saw my siblings this weekend - brother Eran was recovering from a 'cold' and sister Galit was vomiting the next day so I might have caught one of their bugs.

Hi Nir!   I completely missed this diary.  Only found it by accident because of a spammer this morning.  It was a much easier to read style.

BTW, I always heard to drink plenty of liquids with a fever, whether you are thirsty or not.   Supposed to help flush out waste from body fighting bacteria or viruses or something to that effect.

Thanks for killing off that spammer.

Yes it is a different writing style.

Many of the spammers that "grace" our forum make their money with clickbank affiliate links. Clickbank does let you report spammers http://www.clickbank.com/reportproblem.html but it seems like such hard work that even after finding out about that page it often makes sense to just kill the spammer.

This week though I was irritated enough by a spammer (they were operating via PMs not in public so a bit more effort to get rid off) that I reported them and, just for a change, I got a firm reply suggesting that they have actually deleted the spammer's account - a result

Best approach, I find, is just to breath deeply and not let the spammers get to me

played with http://fatlossboss.com/calculator/ (check it out, note it takes a little while to load) - The 'Max Weight Loss Without Muscle Loss' (eat your Daily Energy Target) figure goes up with energy consumed i.e. they have implemented 'rule of 31' (well rule of 30 the way they've implemented it) without allowing for the possibility that a person who is exercising could create a larger deficit (as Lyle McDonald suggested). Conclusion is that in their opinion at a fixed calorie intake level the more active I am the more at risk of muscle loss.

I am observing a correlation between listening to things and wanting to eat for extended periods. I congratulate myself on being able to go without listening to things (or "audio" as I sometimes refer to it) because whilst relieving my boredom this ultimately "compresses" me and before I know it I need a nap (or sometimes even two) as it tires me out. When I don't listen, I seem to want to eat for longer periods of time and ultimately this bites me in the behind as today's trip to the dentist illustrates. I am writing this whilst vowing to stay "off food" for a few more minutes this evening - though a meal will obviously be consumed eventually.

If you're pretty sure you will not want to pay for membership beyond the 2 months free trial, perhaps make a few typos when entering your credit card details. I managed to get 8 of my 16 digits incorrect so I don't think I will be billed

rating my current eating on the 5 dimensions I have previously identified for Compulsive Eating

detail - I consider the level of detail I keep to be a good balance

time-consuming - the possibility of moving away from salad prep to preparing individual foods (only a few each day) a bit like Peter's approach is currently looking more efficient; time spent eating OK at present (can get out of hand at times)

healthiness of food choices - recently quite pathetic when out of home, need to watch it!

volume/weight - usually acceptable, two recent exceptions were Red Hot (in discomfort) and later same night (result of low-calorie food choices was a mid-sleep interruption

eating-speed - I've been in a better place earlier this year, but reasonable

I was due to prepare some "heavy salad" on Friday - I usually make these to last 4 or 5 days but they don't taste so great on the final days - it made no sense to do that as I knew I was eating buffet-style on Saturday so I decided to just "eat the ingredients" Peter-style (Peter being the founder of this website, if he is remembered) on Friday. I made the same decision so far on Sunday, Monday and today (Tuesday).

What will I do tomorrow? I visit a friend on Thursdays and for years that meant having my 'day salad' ready and packed - if I don't do that then what will I pack instead? Right now I am a creature of habit and my salad habit is at a cross-roads. Does not seem trivial at all to me.

On Tuesday (after 4 weeks at '425g') I raised intake up to '450g'. It is the right thing to do for general energy levels.

The buffet meal on the 1st has caught up with me and I now weigh 53.5kg more often than not so up quite a bit from just one meal. The averaged-weight figure has yet to catch up with my actual weight though as it isn't good with sudden 'permanent' changes - if someone suddenly became lighter as a result of a limb amputation or what not, the graph would be a smooth one! Even this smoothed-out curve is showing a jump up of 0.7lb in one week. The way I am currently eating at buffet restaurants (specifically my eating speed and the amount of desserts I let myself have in this not-weighing-foods scenario) is difficult to describe as sane or safe.

All of a sudden I seem to have grown out of nightclub dancing. Only a matter of weeks ago my life seemed incomplete unless I got the chance to go dancing Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Now when time rolls around I usually find myself comfortable at home, the weather is not inviting and crucially I am sufficiently interested in what I am doing (or even stressed) and going out is not as compelling.

I am alarmed by changes like these. Not finding joy in what you used to like before is a sign of depression, for example. I like reliability and consistency. However acceptance is the answer to all such issues. I am sure I'll dance again.
