I think peanut butter is good with just about everything. I try to buy the "all natural" variety because it is less sweet and causes less of the overeating trigger for me. But at the same time, I find it hard to resist a sale price!!
I'm trying to get in to a bit of a routine during the week. Meusli or homemade fruit smoothie for breakfast. Big salad for lunch. Snack - lately rice cakes with a bit of peanut butter or chopped up banana. And soup or a big bowl of veggies for dinner. I tend to do best when I can get into a routine.
sloooooow and steady!

Hi, Trim!
Just wanted to drop in and say hi. Have you tried Smart Balance peanut butter? It's made from flaxseed and fruit oil rather than hydrogenated oils, and has over half of the daily recommendation for Omega-3.
I've found that when I have a lot of things to do, it's very beneficial to take some time each day for "you" time, whether it be taking a walk, just relaxing for a bit, or even making small changes in your day, like spending more time in the shower to relax.
Good luck.

thanks, nick! i'll have to look for that peanut butter. unfortunteately taking some "me" time means getting less sleep - since I can only do this late in the evenings. I do really like to read each night though... even if it's just for 5 minutes. Thanks for reminding me to be thankful even for this small thing
So the body fat scale at the gym this morning said 21.1% fat. WOW! I don't even think that could be right though. I'll try to confirm soon, but my normal Saturday gym date is cancelled because I committed to work instead. My weight hasn't changed in the last week or so, since I've not been as strict with my good eating habits. The last two days have been ever so slightly below maintenance... so not horrible, but not making progress either.
ho hum!

meusli for breakfast, good. giant salad for lunch, good. gorging on chocolate cake scraps instead of proper dinner, baaaaaaaaaaad.
two steps forward. eight steps back??
and it's been raining hard the last two mornings = no walk to work. and sick kid = no kid's play room at the gym. booooooooo!

| Doing good recently. Routine is meusli for breakfast, big salad for lunch. Avoiding processed foods as much as possible. I've come to the conclusion that these things are triggers for me... especially the starchy things - crackers, bread, dry cereal. Even the "healthy" brands or whole grain varieties seem to trigger me to overeat. At least I'm learning. Honestly I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out.

trimB wrote: body fat tested at 23% this weekend... ugh.
that was early april.
today tested at 22.5%. i think there was a reading about a month ago that was in the 20s. So, I guess I'm just hoooooooldin steady.
Really I can't complain with how inconsistent I've been. I'm still lovin the weight lifting plus cardio. But I can only go 2 or 3 times a week. Breakfast and lunch are routine - healthy. But afternoon snacks are OUT OF CONTROL... quantity and quality.
Anyone else out there think it's much harder to deny junky cravings when your body is sleep deprived??? I've been getting 5 or 6 hours of sleep for quite a long time now, and my body LOVES a good 8 hours. I'm going to try for 7 hours the nexy few nights and make it a PRIORITY. I don't know how else to fit it in - except to let some other things slide......

Trim, it's hard to make time for yourself when you are a busy, working mom! But, remember it's best for your son if he's got a healthy mom! I think you are doing great! 22.5 % bodyfat! That's to die for! As good as Cold Stone Creamery! Whoops! That's not low carb or low calories or whole foods Hang in there, dear! You'll get control over those late afternoon snacks.........you want to be a good example for your son!

thanks for the encouragement, hisgal! it really means alot to me - especially since i'm not around on the forums alot lately.
i listened to this podcast this morning...
http://nutritiondiva.quickanddirtytips.com/eating-frequently.aspx
i found it very interesting. i don't have time to properly summarize right now... but i think it was a more tempered version of the ADD - sort of. the idea is that 2 hours after you eat, your body finishes digesting and starts working off of your energy (ie fat) stores. anyway, it was interesting, it's not too long - so i recommend reading or listening.

Oh heck yeah! I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me. I've gone through long periods of sleeping between 3-5 hours a night, and it's MUCH easier to give in to junk cravings at this point. It's very comforting at the time...ugh. I also am working on getting more sleep.

this being committed to getting more sleep idea is harder than i thought. i've been putting off all sort of tasks, not cooking meals as often, etc... and i still have only managed 6 or 7 hours of sleep per night. even on the weekends!
well even that little bit extra sleep seems to be helping. also because my husband bought new swim shorts and he looks GREAT! almost a little 6 pack. makes me feel like i need to look even better for him, hee hee. so for the time being, i'm focusing on cutting out the afternoon snacking. lunch is normal - then i don't eat again until dinner. i have a hard time just having a little snack, so maybe it's better if i just don't have anything.

Hi trim! I checked out your link about fasting...........and it lead me to another link. It's a 6 part article on intermittent fasting and all the health benefits. VERY INTERESTING! I'm going to post that link in my diary.
I've really taken to ADD.....it's been almost a year now, that I've been doing it. Love the affects on my allergies.....pretty much non-existent now (when I clean a really dusty part of the house, like the basement.......or outside in the flowers on a very windy day, I get to sneezing, but the sinuses don't fill up.......they clear right out! )

Hi HISGAL! I'm really glad that you had a minute or two to check out the link. I've been using the idea of longer times between meals/snacks to help motivate me to cut out some of the snacky periods of my day. They were an issue just waiting to be resolved... but now I feel like I'm letting my body recover and regroup from the digestion process. So there's a dual purpose. Very cool!
Checked my measurements this morning. Same as they were about a year ago, hah! I guess that's not so bad. I'm okay with maintaining, although I would like to lower my body fat % just a bit.
Switched to a new gym. Been trying out the step-mill. Different than a stair master. It's pretty tedious, but really gets my heart rate up. Have been doing short but intense weight lifting too. YAY!

| Trimb, I can't remember if I read this at your link or the article I found on fasting, which had a link on that page..............but he made the point that when you eat 5-6 small meals a day with maybe a snack or two, you are keeping your blood sugar at an even level throughout the day...........but you are keeping it at a high even level. With fasting, you are keeping your blood sugar at an even level all day, but you are keeping it at a low level all day. Seems to me you would be giving your pancreas a rest, so it's not having to produce and release insulin all day long???

YES! That concept was included in the podcast transcript that I linked to. I really liked that perspective. Also it mentioned that very few people truly have hypoglycemia (where they really need to eat every few hours to keep blood sugar high enough).
Usually people THINK they have this condition - when really they're just CRASHING after a refined sugar/flour blood sugar OVERDOSE! This agrees with some things from the ETL world that I've read, although I'm not a smooth enough writer to sum it all up eloquently here.
