Ugh!  After feeling so in-control for a few weeks now, I really did not have a good weekend.  I was feeling frustrated and entitled.  I was about 400 calories over maintenance on Sunday.  I might end up a little bit over today too.  Embarassing, but there it is.  I wouldn't exactly say a binge, but there was definitely some poor choices.

I'm still struggling with fitting everything in.  Planning and cooking healthy meals, not to mention regular exercise.  My only time-splurges today have been 5 minutes catching up on forums and 10 minutes of chatting with hubby before he went to work.  Other than that, it has been work, laundry, dishes, cooking, errands, and taking care of Theo.  When am I supposed to go for a jog??!?

Once again, I feel like I need to re-evaluate.  Maybe take a whole week or two "off".  Still counting though to make sure I am maintenance and not over.

Okay, I think I'm done with my brief pity party.  That being said, I'm still not sure quite how to tackle the remaining hurdles.  I think I have a better-than-usual shot at getting a jog in during the second half of this week.  I have an extra two days off work, but of course still busy with other things.

Anyway, I was thinking if I could just challenge myself to go for a jog (even if brief!) every day Thurs - Sun... then maybe that would be a jumpstart for me to re-establish that habit.  Inertia is not on my side just now.  I admit that's a nice way to say that I've been lazy.  I've been avoiding writing this self-challenge in my diary because if I don't make it then I will have to report on my laziness!!

Doing well since my mini-meltdown earlier in the week.

As far as my little self-challenge goes, so far so good.  I went for a jog both yesterday morning and this morning.  Tomorrow will be quite a challenge though, because I am already a bit sore AND I'll have to try to squeeze the jog into a brief window of opportunity.

Also good as far as eating goes.  I've been tracking calories and staying a little under maintenance, maybe 200 calories a day under.  I kinda like focusing on good exercise rather than eating.  But I still need to track because I'm not good at self-regulating.

Weight is steady at 131.

Isn't it funny how writing it down (rather than just thinking it) makes it "real"...and then you feel almost obligated to do it?:dizzy:

I have to keep an eye on that chart, because it really has seemed to level out lately.  I'm getting within 5 pounds of pre-baby weight, so I guess I can realistically expect to approach my goal weight rather   s l o w l y  .  I keep forgetting to check my body fat first thing one morning.

Well I slept 15 minutes longer than usual this morning, and my window of opportunity went from 20-25 minutes long to 5-10 minutes long.  Ugh.  I didn't go jogging.  I'm going to do some strength training exercises this afternoon, and pick back up with the jogging tomorrow.  Let me just say this now... I have NO forseeable excuse not to get my booty outside tomorrow!!

Thanks everyone for still reading!  It really helped to know that during my self-challenge I was accountable to a few more people than just myself.  Oh wait, it's not quite over yet!!

YAY I went jogging again this morning.  That's 3 out of 4 of my mini self-challenge day.  I feel good about it!

Now I'm really stumped as to what I should do for the upcoming week.  It's back to 4am work schedule tomorrow, which is always much more of a challenge.  Maybe I should commit to jogging 3 out of 5 weekdays?!?  Dare I say it?!?

I said it, and I'm going for it!!  3 out of 5 weekdays this week, I WILL go for a jog.  Counting today!  It was really hard to wake up for the early morning baking this morning, and all I wanted to do when I got home was be lazy.  But I put on my workout clothes before I got too cozy... and I went!  Amazingly I am naturally less likely to overeat on the days when I get good cardio exercise.

Went for a jog again this morning.  That's 2 of my 3 promised days already under my belt.  Now I just have to make it out either tomorrow or Friday... I can do it!

Yay!!  I did it!  I admit this morning's jog was pretty short, but I'm working on regaining the habit steadily.  Hubby was trying to tempt me with getting coffee at the yummy ethiopian coffeehouse nearby.  Luckily he got distracted and I put on my running shoes.  We still had time to stop by the coffeehouse too!  They have great big windows that Theo likes to look out of.

Okay so next challenge is to go for a longer run on Sunday.

Oh also I've been experimenting with NOT counting calories for about a week now.  This is quite a revolution for me, but so far I am liking it.  Closely monitoring weight though.  Last few days have been down 1/2 pound.

I had zero doubts that you would:grin:...I was thinking that I've been following your diary for what feels like "forever"...and realized that you always work your way around to doing whatever you set out to.....I remember when your daily food lists looked like: "bite of cake, bite of cookie, bite of brownie" (okay, I'm exaggerating) and you said "this must stop"...and now it's more often like "baked salmon, bran flakes"...guess that's how you manage to be both a pastry chef and a thin'n'hawt mom at the same

Oh you are not really exaggerating about my past eating habits, Suenos.  Not that I'm anywhere near perfect, but improvements there have been many!  Your encouragement is GREATLY appreciated

Also giving me a boost this morning... I put on my light blue cargo pants for the first time post-baby.  They look great!  They are one of those pairs of pants that start looking not-so-hot the moment I put on a few extra pounds, so this is very encouraging.

On the down side to all of this, my back is acting up a bit again.  I set out for my promised longer jog on Sunday and my back starting stiffening up pretty quickly.  I decided to do the normal jog instead of a longer one.

This problem was why I had to stop jogging in the first place.  My dad and brother are also very active AND have problems with their backs.  I feel doomed!!  I had joined a gym to have access to the non-impact machines, but this is absolutely NOT in my budget right now.  So now I don't know what to do.  I'm taking at least today off, then I'll see how the next jog feels.

funny you should mention cargo pants.  i was thinking about getting a pair once i get my tummy a bit flatter.  a pair that rests nicely on the hips and would look cute with a fitted t-shirt.
and that's so cool your are fitting you well again!  your jogs are paying off! :star:

that's too bad about your back.  maybe get to a chiro before it gets bad?  maybe there will be a relatively easy fix?

hope it feels better!

Ugh snow is a bummer!  I've been completely derailed this week so far.  Not particularly on what I've been eating (decent but not great), but definitely on exercise.  I guess I've been using the poor weather as an excuse.  My living room has been taken over by musical instruments (hubby) and toys (baby), so Turbo Jam is not so convenient either.  More excuses.  Funny how I keep using them even though I recognize them for what they are!

Just try 5 minutes on the spot.  It seems like nothing but it is way better than nothing.  Do 5 minutes whenever you feel like it and you will see it will automatically happen more and more, even if you start ogff only doing it 5 minutes a day for the first week or so.

happened just yesterday actually.  hope i can pitch in to help peter and nir and others keep the forums running smoothly!

the only bad thing is that i have less time to keep up with others' diaries and my own.  i have not yet gotten back on that exercise horse.  quite a busy weekend i am getting ready for.  realistically i might be able to squeeze a jog in on sunday, then pick the habit back up from there.

i feel like i've been eating at least maintenance - if not a little over.  still attempting NOT to record food.  but oddly enough the scale is STILL down 1/2 to 1 pound in the last week or so.  it doesn't feel "real" yet, so we will see.

A nice invigorating workout always banishes those soft and lumpy feelings.  I was hoping to squeeze in a jog this morning, but hubby had to go to work as soon as I got home from work... so now I am with baby all day.  My stroller squeals as if in pain just leisurely walking down the street, so I don't think it could withstand a jog through the park.  That's what I get for having all hand-me-downs.

Anyway, I'm feeling a bit better but still disappointed with not yet getting back to my workouts.  I counted calories (roughly) yesterday just to make sure I wasn't completely out of whack.  Was maintenance or so, so I should be ok.

Once again, I had it in my head that I was going to go for a run after I got home from work.  But then hubby left for his job right after I got home.  Ugh!  Well his "crunch time" is over with tonight.  But then I have a job interview on Friday morning during my short window of opportunity.  So I guess it will have to be Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday for this week - best case scenario.

Oh and I starting recording my food again today.  I've been slowly getting more and more out of control.  Will I be on page 239 of this diary some day?  Apparently I need the accountability just to maintain.  Not to mention those last 5 pounds I am working on.

Okay, sorry but I gave a little laugh when I read that...cause it struck a bell of recognition....I mean despite "knowing" on an intellectual level that "you gotta put the work into maintaining"....some days it still annoys or even surprises me for some reason:dizzy:

You're right, suenos - it annoys me almost every day that it is such a struggle for me to maintain.  sometimes I almost think it's easier to lose.  but I guess really they are just two different battles.

anyway, here's what i ate yesterday:
pineapple chunks (100)
two bites of a cinn roll (100)
little cup of oatmeal (100)
half of a small roll (100)
bean and cheese enchilada leftover from potluck (250)
bowl of kashi with soy milk (250)
leftover low-fat artichoke dip and some chips (500)
turkey and wheat wrap (300)
another part of an enchilada (200)
TOTAL 1900.
maintenance level, if my estimates are correct
.  i guess once I resign myself to recording everything again, keeping this total under control will get easier pretty quickly.

pineapple chunks (100)
7 grain dinner roll (200)
banana (100)
oatmeal bar (300)
couscous with roasted veggies (300)
another oatmeal bar (300)
hunk of pumpernickel bread, why do I love this so much?? (300)
wine (200)
bit of cake scrap (200)

TOTAL 2000.  About maintenance, but I was shooting for a little lower.

I went for a jog this morning!!  My window of opportunity was really short, but I was SOOOO tired of making excuses for myself - so I just headed out the door and went!  I hope it doesn't ice/sleet too bad tonight because I would really like to go again tomorrow.

So I managed to get out for a jog on both Saturday and Sunday.  I had to wake up and IMMEDIATELY head out, but I did it!  I think I was sick of being lazy.  Doctor appt for Theo this morning, so no jog today.

My scale has pretended to get rid of the pound I "gained" during my two weeks of slackerness.  Well I hope it's not pretending, but we will see.  It's back at 130.  I think I'm best closer to 125, but I do need to take my body fat measurement again.

And I've come to the conclusion that for some odd reason if I can keep up the exercise, then I don't do too shabby with NOT recording my food.  But if I'm slacking off, then I have to still record or I will overeat.  Wierd.

Ho hum.  So my goal for the rest of 2007 was just to maintain at 130.  Really ambitious huh?  It's not so much the holiday treats that are tempting me too much... it's just being a little overwhelmed with things to do.  It's the busy time of year at work, I had a phone interview this morning (which I had to prepare for yesterday), I'm putting together 25 employee gifts which I've been working on for the last two weeks, getting ready for long road trip to see family on christmas eve, etc, etc.  AAAAAHHH!

OOOPS not much of that was diet related!  Back to the relevant subject.  Weight is hovering between 130 and 131, so I don't know if I'll make that goal of staying at 130.  High hopes for more consistent exercise once things settle down a bit!  I really like mulling over what my New Years Resolutions will be... haha making that decision is on my list to-do as well!!

Well I think you've done a good job so far of maintaining your weight. A couple of slip ups but it happens to the best of us.

I have a question to ask you, I work in a Deli where I'm surrounded by chicken, meats, cheese...

What do you tell yourself when you're tempted to just "binge" or you've never had that problem? Or do you eat before going to work to there's no hunger temptation?

For a long time I was stuck in a rut of just stealing bites of junky food while working (brownies, cookie dough, cake scraps, etc).  All those bites added up to my "lunch".  It made it difficult to keep a reasonable calorie level AND I believe all that extra fat made it really hard for me to shed the pounds I had gained.  That was my situation... yours is similar but I guess with meats & cheeses instead of sweets.

What finally seemed to work for me was a DETOX period where I did not let one little bite of the "trigger foods" pass my lips.  I even spit things out a couple of times when I absent-mindedly put them in my mouth... that's how bad my habit was.  My first detox was pretty long, maybe 2 weeks.  After that it stopped being such a problem.  Every once in a while, I start sliding back into my old junky-food ways... and I just re-detox (only takes a few days) to clean up my habit again.

WOW that was a two-paragraph synopsis of my entire diary HAHA!

Anyway, doing so-so for now.  Actually I'm glad you asked the question, because it's probably time for another detox!  Eating habits are slipping a bit!

Thanks so much Scoobs!  I think you kept my diary from being on page 2, haha!

We got back last night from our almost week long visit with family in Ohio.  I weighed myself this morning... 131 still.  But I'm still around 25% body fat.  I confess to too many poor food choices and not enough exercise.

I'm still formulating all of my new year's resolutions, but I think one of them will be to get my body fat back down to 20%.  Will try to more or less ignore the scale.  I know I will fit into my clothes better and feel better if my body fat is back down to pre-baby.  It's been 6 months already for goodness sake!!

Now all I need is a plan....

hey trimb!  i hope this doesn't sound wierd, but dreamt that i ran into you at the grocery store.  your baby was there, too.  especially strange since i have no idea what you look like...  but yeah, it was just like we knew who eachother were and just started chatting over carts of veggies, and for some reason, cereal.  strange, i know.

anyway, you said "it's been 6 months already!"  hey, you have accomplished a ton in that 6 months.  i know people who take years to lose the baby weight, if they ever do at all!  so i say, be proud of what you have done in this amount of time!

have a great last day in 2007!

Oh man I'm really having a bit of an adjustment over here.  I really got used to eating maintenance level for a few weeks.  So now that I'm trying to shave a bit off, I'm having a harder time than I think I should.  Not to mention that the cold weather is really making me miss my gym membership.  I just want to snuggle up inside with hot (decaf!) coffee!

Plus I can barely keep up with all of the new members here!  It's a good thing overall... but I feel so behind!

Okay, venting complete...

Well, CG... I'm not sure how much I'm contributing to the forums at this moment.  I steal a few minutes here and there, but I can never quite completely catch up.  But all of the enthusiasm is a bit contagious!

Tomorrow morning is my big "no-excuses" day to go jogging.  I've been having mild issues with back pain, but it's really up near my neck.  So I think I can still go.  Then I just have to figure out how to get the other things on my to-do list accomplished!

For Thursday, 1/3:
pineapple chunks (100)
dried apricots (100)
bites of a pecan bar (100)
bites of a cinn roll (200)
oatmeal bar (200)
homemade bean enchiladas (500)
big salad and hunk of bread (500)
leftover rice & veggies (300)
TOTAL 2000.

Yay!  I did squeeze in the jog in my small little window-of-opportunity this morning.  It feels great!  And I am inspired by all the new members with new ideas to fit in some other workouts too.  I do have some neglected hand-weights, pilates DVDs, and a yoga mat.  Even if I can only jog 2 or 3 times a week, I can still do SOMETHING on the other days.  Plan is to jog again tomorrow and then make a plan for the rest of the M-F week coming up.

For Friday 1/4:
kashi cereal & soy milk (300)
2 bananas (200)
toast with jam (200)
salad (100)
big tuna sandwich (500)
leftover homemade chili & cornbread (400)
TOTAL 1700.

Oh man I do NOT know what happened yesterday. :nono: I thought I was close to maintenance level, but when I added it up I was quite a bit over.  Well at least I was keeping track so I am aware of what the damage was.

Went for a jog both yesterday and this morning.  Plan for this M-F is to do 1 day yoga, 1 day light weights, 1 day pilates, and 1 day Turbo Jam (when my downstairs neighbors aren't home to hear me ).  Allowing myself one day "off" when I'm feeling just too busy to fit it all in.  I am catering a party on Saturday, so I'll be busy getting ready most of the week.

For Saturday 1/5:
waffles (400)
tuna sandwich (400)
leftover bean enchiladas (400)
raisins & dry cereal (200)
popcorn (200)
tuna sandwich & half of a potato (500)
piece of bread I made (100)
TOTAL 2200.

Not a great day yesterday either, although I did get that jog in and made a plan for the remainder of the week.

For Sunday, 1/6:
dry waffle (100)
half of a scone - but it was huge!! (300)
piece of bread (100)
brown rice, black beans, and tostones (800)
giant burrito with chicken, beans, rice (700)
TOTAL 2000.

Lots to do today but I am DETERMINED :skull: to fit in a nice relaxing yoga workout... maybe before I go to bed this evening.

Yikes...I feel exactly the same way...I'm stoked by all the new members and the return of some "old" ones, but am seriously lacking in time (though not motivation) to feel like I'm contributing much at the moment!

Hope your back issues clear up soon!

A VERY snacky type day yesterday, making my total on the high side.  Although still not over maintenance.  Did yoga yesterday, but only for about 15 minutes before I was interrupted.  Oh well, the point for now is to make the effort I guess.

For Monday 1/7:
cereal and milk (300)
bites of cinn roll (150)
salad and some raisins (150)
brown rice & black beans (400)
veggie dog (200)
veggie burger, homemade - yum! (200)
more raisins (100)
dry waffles (200)
part of another veggie burger (100)
part of another veggie dog (100)
TOTAL 1900.

I'm interested to see if my weight is going to maintain if I keep going at this rate.  I'm more or less weighing 131 lately.  I guess the up side is that I can confirm my maintenance calorie levels.

My plan yesterday was to do a workout with my hand-weights.  But it was soooo unseasonably warm outside that I decided to go for a long walk instead.  I kinda feel like I cheated (walks are more fun for me), but I'll try to let myself off the hook.

Feeling really busy for the rest of this week.  So many things I've been neglecting, but I just don't see when I can fit them it.  Depressing!  Hopefully my workouts won't go by the wayside as a consequence... plan is to do a pilates workout this evening.

For Tuesday 1/8:
half of a bagel with bit o cream cheese (250)
mini roast beef sandwich (150)
bowl of cereal with soy milk (300)
small bit of apple pie filling (100)
ww penne with sauce (500)
veggie patty (300)
homemade black bean soup :yum: (250)
TOTAL 1850.

I am such a wimp sometimes.  I rather reluctantly started doing my pilates DVD, as promised, last night.  I soon realized that my puny mat was not nearly enough to make pilates comfortable on hardwood floors.  So I turned it off.  In retrospect I should have just put an extra towel or two under my mat.  But it was all the excuse I needed to quit after about 5 minutes.  Ugh.

Today will be better, with a Turbo Jam workout (with weighted gloves!) is on deck!

For Wednesday 1/9:
cereal with soy milk (300)
bite of coffee cake and a couple of baby potatoes (200)
ww toast with jam (350)
black bean soup, brown rice, and crackers (450)
small bit of couscous with roasted veggies (100)
veggie dog (100)
dry waffles (200)
dry cereal (100)

Did not seem to have the energy to do Turbo Jam... but I did it anyway!!  I only had time for 20 minutes, but I used the gloves so it still felt like a decent workout.  Sometimes I'm an all-or-nothing type person, but I have to remind myself that 20 minutes is still better than nothing.

For Thursday 1/10:
cereal with soy milk (300)
a couple random bites at work (100)
black bean soup (200)
raisins (200)
homemade tuna & veggie noodle casserole (600)
hot mini rolls from the oven (200)
black bean soup with crackers (300)
TOTAL 1900.
