Thanks guys, you are too sweet!
Of course I think he's cute... but then again I know I am biased.

Busy busy getting ready for inlaws visit and hubby's surprise bday party on Sunday.  Not much free time, but still doing the daily walks and filling the rest of free time with errands and chores and work.  I'll just have to settle for getting back into exercise routine next week when things settle down.

Still vaguely tracking calories - 1800 yesterday.

In-laws were visiting Sat, Sun, and this morning.  Usually I keep a rough mental tally of my calories in situations like this... but I did not at all!  It was a fun and busy weekend.  Meals were not the focal point of any of our activities thankfully, so that helped alot.
The surprise bday party on Sunday was so much fun.  Once again, being hostess, I was too busy to overeat.  I did have a piece of bday cake though, so I'm sure that day was maintenance plus.

Back to work and a bit more of the usual routine tomorrow.
Weight still hovering around 133 lately.  I'm happy with this pace for now... especially since more and more of my clothes fit.  I wore my sexy red pants to hubby's performance on Saturday night.  I felt great!! :bug:

Rough day yesterday.  Didn't count calories at all again.  Not a good idea if you're me.

Today got back on the counting track.  But was at 1850 calories instead of goal of 1700.  Only my daily walk for exercise too.  We're trying to get Theo's daytime naps in line so that I have some time to workout.  As of now he does great sleeping at night but only 30 minutes here and there during the day.  Barely enough to do dishes and laundry and check email.  Hopefully will only be a week or so before we make some progress.

Got to get to bed soon... up for work at 3:30am as usual.  ugh!

How precious!  I just saw your latest pic of Theo - how adorable!!!!:duck:

Hope you're able to work out the nap situation; 30 min is sooo not enough to get anything accomplished...but thank goodness he sleeps good for ya at night!

Thanks Scoobs!  Even the little pumpkin cartoon brightened my morning! :skull:

Happy to report some progress as far as carving out chunks of time for my workouts.  I did about 25 minutes of a TJ DVD yesterday in addition to a hour walk.  I want to catch up on more posts, but then I might miss my workout opportunity window for today!

For Wednesday:
oatmeal
coffee with soy milk and biscotti
banana, toast, and bite of a cinn roll
ww pasta with roasted veggies
leftover bbq pork
big salad
mango
cereal
TOTAL 1750.
Lots of snacking and mini-meals and not really any big meals.  We are chipping away at the abundance of leftovers from the weekend, and I'm looking forward to planning proper meals/cooking soon.

Did a short but intense ab workout yesterday.  It was a nice change of pace from the cardio DVDs I usually do.  Thinking about taking an extra long walk today.  Oatmeal in the morning helps a little with willpower towards the junk food all around me.

For Thursday:
melon chunks and bite of a cinn roll
oatmeal
mini roast beef sandwich
biscotti and decaf coffee
pretzels
ww pasta with roasted veggies
homemade granola
small apple pastry thing (I can already tell I GOT to get rid of these)
toast
TOTAL 1750.  Weight still at 133.

I missed the forums this weekend... my computer is acting squirrely.  This weekend, I pawned off the caramel apple tartlets that my mom sent me and finished off the pretzels when some friends were visiting.  Too tempting having easy to snack foods in the house!!

Friday was good - calories at 1750 and took an extra long walk where I happened upon some neighbors who I had hoped would become friends.
Saturday was a little under maintenance at 2000 or so.  Not bad considering that friends come over.  We drank wine and ate salmon, green beans, and brown rice.
Sunday wasn't so hot - ended the day at about 2100.... indulging at my sister's house while watching football.  Crackers, chips & dip - oh my!

Went running this morning woo hoo!! :rabbit: Unfortuneately it's back to work tomorrow, which makes it more challenging to run or exercise because the crazy hours make me tired.  I have my eye on a couple of 5k races in the area in the hopes of motivating myself!

Went over my 1700-1800 target yesterday, but it wasn't a complete debacle.  I guess these small deficits will add up over time, it is just going to go slowly. :turtle: Of course more diligent exercise will help.  Plan is to do the ab workout today and maybe some work with hand-weights too if schedule allows.

For Monday:
raisin bran with soy milk (big bowl)
decaf latte
homemade tuna salad on wheat
strawberries
small bit of leftover brown rice
another tuna salad on wheat
hunk of pumpernickel bread, yum!
TOTAL 1900.  Ran for 30 minutes.

hey trim b, you are right, all these small deficits will add up to weight loss, you cant argue with the laws of physics. it sounds like you are doing really well, yeah you have gone a little over on calorie targets, but you have made some really healthy food choices, and even red wine is good for you in moderation with all the antioxidents it contains

ooh, and what is pumpernickle bread? we dont have it in the UK i dont think.

good luck at reaching your goals

Here's what I found online about pumpernickel...
a dark coarse sourdough bread made of unbolted rye flour.
It's German in origin, but the info I've seen seems to suggest that it should be known in the UK too??  Maybe it has a different name there.

Did abs workout yesterday, and it felt good.  I think I'll try to do this once a week or so.  Plan is to do a DVD today or else take a long walk.  Then tomorrow is my day to go running.  I'll have to go right after work though in order to fit it in... errr! :nono: (my lazy face)

For Tuesday:
cookie dough (craving like MAD, so I splurged)
oatmeal
decaf and biscotti
banana
homemade pizza with lite soy cheese
chicken soup and hunk of pumpernickel
TOTAL 1800.

I started the DVD yesterday... then kept smelling natural gas in my apt.  Some time after the warm-up, I got really paranoid and called my landlord.  He told me to check my pilot lights, and if it didn't go away then I should call the gas company.  Anyway, by the time I resolved all this, theo's nap was over and so was my window of opportunity.  We took a long walk later, but it's not quite the same as a good cardio workout.  Boo hoo!

Plus my eating got a little out of hand!
For Wednesday:
oatmeal
melon chunks and grapes
leftover homemade pizza w soy chz
decaf and biscotti
raisin bran with soy milk
part of hubby's odwalla juice
veggie burger with big bun
TOTAL 1950.  Bummer.

10/12: 132 pounds, roughly 26% body fat, 28.5" waist, 32.75" belly button, 36.5" hips

YAY!  I'm so glad I finally remembered to take measurements.  It really shows that I am still progressing even if it is slowly.  Well worth continuing on towards my goal.  When I first joined here, my goal was just to eat more healthfully.  Then after measuring my body fat (initially somewhere around 30%!!), I slowly worked down to around 22%.  Now I suppose my goal is to get back down around 22%.  Could take another 6 months, but it is worth it!

half of a biscotti & decaf
sample of chocolate cake - new recipe at work
grapes
baked potato with soy chz
big bowl of raisin bran cereal
veggie burger

Trim, I'm glad you're still posting here. Congrats on Theo; he is adorable.  It's hard to schedule everything into naptime. Yay for getting a workout in. It seems like you are doing really well. It took me three years to start losing baby weight.

Ditto to you, fruitloop!  Good to see you posting once again.  Although I didn't feel I had anything brilliant to add to your diary, I am definitely keeping up with your progress/journey.

I have new and different challenges than I did a year ago (finding time for myself and balancing exercise with sleep), but then I guess that each one of us here has our own unique challenges to this quest.  So all I can do is share my own and read about others'.

As for yesterday, there honestly was no time for workouts.  I got a couple of 30 minute breaks... but I had things to do around the house that were not optional.  But to make matters worse, I overate AGAIN.  Ugh I feel like a broken record.  Plus we are going out for dinner tonight for the first time in MANY months, so it will be hard not to justify splurging in my head.

For Friday:
a couple of bites of a cinn roll
bite of a cookie
decaf with soy milk
half of a GIANT chicken breast with some breading
juice
bowl of raisin bran cereal
other half of the giant chicken breast
lean meatloaf
TOTAL 1900.

Another weekend that I failed to chronicle what I was eating.  I did mental calculations in my head several times both Saturday and Sunday, but never actually got around to writing everything down.  Life just got in the way... but in a good way!  Basically - both days I was disciplined for the first half of the day and then splurged a bit at social events the second half of the day.  The days ended up about maintenance.

Sometimes being patient about my progress isn't such a great thing!  Oh and I have to confess that I didn't go jogging any of those days or today either.  I could give reasons/excuses... but if I had REALLY wanted to go, I probably could have squeezed it in or sacrificed sleep.  :nono:

I'm sorry to report that I had a complete breakdown yesterday.  I was experimenting with a new cookie idea to send to my bro-in-law for his bday.  My original idea didn't quite work out and I ate almost ALL of the mistakes.  Basically I had cookies for lunch.  Sad that this kind of behavior was the whole reason that I started this diary.  I guess I still need help.

I am going to start with some goals that are a little more within reach for my life right now...

1 - 1800 calories or less for Tues-Fri this week.  Re-evaluate on Friday how I am doing.  This is a very modest amount under my maintenance calories - maybe 300 net calories burned per day.

2 - Fit in some sort of brisk activity every day Tues-Fri this week.  If I can only manage a walk, then I have to take the route with the killer hills and walk fast (I did this yesterday and it was actually a GREAT workout).

so I did make both my goals for yesterday, but it wasn't very pretty.
1 - 1800 calories for the day, including 2 small cookies from the final batch (they are now all safely on their way to FL)
2 - brisk walk for 40 minutes with hills & 13 pound front baby carrier

I wish I could afford a sitter for a daily workout.  Budget is stretched though.  Work is going well though... oatmeal for breakfast each morning is relatively low cal & filling. :yum:

A boring post follows... :dizzy:

Met both my goals again yesterday:
1 - 1800 calories.  A little bit less junk, a little easier.  Feel a little less "bloaty" and gross today.  Baby steps, baby steps.
2 - Brisk walk for 45 min with hills again.  Theo is once again in the land of mini-naps, and I am therefore once again struggling with proper workouts.  But we will get there!!

Each day this week of my 4 day self-challenge got easier and easier.  I made my 1800 calorie target each day.  I will allow myself a maintenance day today, even though it is risky getting back to the lower level after that.  A friend is making dinner, and I think it will be salmon and wild rice or something reasonably healthy like that.

However it rained yesterday just as we were headed out for our walk.  In fact we got poured on a bit!  So I missed the exercise goal.  Anyway, I think everyday about how I can fit in my exercise in a more consistent way... I'm sure I will figure it out eventually after all this trial and error.

trial and error.
Oh yeah!!!  My life story it seems.

I do appreciate the encouragement, Scoobs!  And also it's nice to know I'm still being read and have to be accountable (although I myself read others' diaries much more often than I actually post).  But I also have to say that I don't exactly feel like I'm doing that well.  I was thinking alot today about why that is... and here is what I've come up with.

The good things:
- I'm about 5-8 pounds away from my ideal "fighting" weight.  All that extra fat accounts for several percents extra body fat.
- Almost all of my clothes fit well again.

The not-so-good things:
- I have not been able to re-establish an exercise "habit" despite many fits and starts.  I don't feel like my daily walks count for good intense cardio and certainly not muscle-building.
- I'm feeling very uncertain about how to tackle those last few pounds or if I even want to badly enough to do the hard work to get there.  I hate to admit that last part, but it's true.

I keep thinking of ways to tackle my exercise hurdle, but nothing is feeling quite right yet.  I'm going to keep stewing on it for another day or so... then try to come up with an action plan.  I still want to keep trying despite the risk for failure.

Okay here is my latest idea.
I will have a weekly total calorie deficit goal.  On an ambitious week, I can aim for 3600 total deficit (ie 1#).  However the next few weeks, I am either out-of-town myself for the weekend or have guests from out of town for the weekend... so maybe for those weeks I need to aim for more like 1800 total deficit (ie 1/2#).  I can make my ideal "fighting" weight by the end of the year if I keep chipping away using this method.

Here are the details:
- Consider 2000 cal to be my maintenance level.  This includes my daily walk, but any extra exercise is added to my running deficit for the week.
- If I'm not losing fat at the rate I expect, I will know I am either underestimating my calories or overestimating my maintenance level.
- First week starts tomorrow, yes on a Wednesday.  And ends on Tuesday next.  I wasn't keeping track of intake as of now, so I can't start today.

Mini goal for tomorrow is -400 calories combined... need to get my bum out for a nice jog and keep the food in reasonable control.  LET'S GO, WOO HOO!!!

hey trimb!

boy oh boy, do i hear ya!  i am the exact same way right now- many starts, but nothing solid. it feels like it is almost impossible to get back into the habit once you got off of it.  i wish quiting smoking was like that!  i am about 5-7 lbs from my ideal -

"I'm feeling very uncertain about how to tackle those last few pounds or if I even want to badly enough to do the hard work to get there.  I hate to admit that last part, but it's true."

wow, you took the words right out of my head.  it is truely about wanting it badly enough, isn't it?
"fighting" weight, too...  it sucks to be so close yet so far.

but hey, you have a plan!  this makes things so much easier.  it's totally going to be worth it!

so you rock it girl, rock it hard!  you did it before and you know you got it in ya to do it again!

Good to hear from you guys! :bear:  I'm glad I shared my plan then... if it helped spur some new ideas for others.

Day One of my plan went well yesterday.  It was raining, so no walk - but I did a bunch of situps, pushups, squats, etc during the free time I had.  No calorie deficit via exercise then, but I did manage -400 via food intake.

Day One, Week One:
oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar (300)
melon chunks (100)
a few bites of pecan pie bar (200)
salad and cup of veggie soup (200)
small veggie burger and soy "ice cream" bar (400)
half of a cup of juice (50)
veggie stir fry (300)
really little glass of wine (50)
TOTAL 1600.

-400 down, -1400 to go!!

Went to the dentist today (4 fillings!!).  And it's raining again.  Probably need to keep calories at same level to get my -400 deficit for today.

First - post updates for week one (so far) of my plan
Then catch up on other diaries as much as possible

Day Two, Week One (Thursday):
oatmeal with almonds & raisins (300)
melon chunks (100)
dried apricots (100)
giant apple pancakes hubby made (600)
wheat toast (200)
veggie stir fry (300)
TOTAL 1600.  No decifit via exercise.  Another -400 down!

Day Three, Week One (Friday):
was traveling half the day.  too busy to overeat.  -200 calories.

Day Four, Week One (Saturday):
busy again but did munch on some chex mix and ate a grilled sausage.  avoided candy!  0 calorie deficit.

Day Five, Week One (Sunday):
had a big piece of coffeecake for breakfast, light lunch, and light dinner with a few good snacks thrown in.  family ordered pizza and i didn't eat any!  0 calorie deficit.

-1000 calories so far!  Only -800 to go in two days to reach my goal for week one.  I'm positive that I wouldn't have even made it this far without my daily and weekly goals!  YAY!

Day Six, Week One (Monday):
granola bar (200)
pretzels and oj on the plane home (200)
bagel on the run (400)
big bowl of bran cereal (400)
banana (100)
ham on wheat (300)
hummus "flat out" wrap (150)
small salad (50)
tootsie rolls (50)
TOTAL 1850.  -150 deficit via diet, -200 deficit via TJ DVD... -350 deficit all together.

That's -1350 for the week with today's totals yet to go!  And I went jogging this morning woo hoo!  Scale was actually down a pound today, but we will see where it steadies out at.

Week One of final slim-down is completed!  Scale seems to have inched down a pound, although I'm giving it a few more days to decide for sure.

Week One, Day Seven (Tuesday):
oatmeal (100)
pineapple (100)
part of a lo fat muffin (200)
chicken apple salad wrap (500)
halloween candy (100)
pumpernickel sandwich (450)
handful of pecans (100)
little bowl of cereal (200)
TOTAL 1850.  150 deficit via diet + 250 deficit via jogging.

Week One total was -1750 calories.  Yesterday was my birthday so I counted, but stayed at maintenance.  My bro-in-law is visiting this weekend, so exercise will be limited to walking while sightseeing.  My plan is to re-start a new week on Monday, where I will at least have a chance to set and make another mini-goal.  Until then (including today) I am tracking calories, but eating at maintenance level.

Thanks voodoo!  I'm liking the current strategy at the moment.  Feels like it keeps me focused.

Weekend was decent but not perfect.  I ate a little too much one day (maybe 200 calories over maintenance).  I tried to make up for it the next day, but I forgot to plan for a party.  I had mostly cocktail shrimp and veggies at the party but also two glasses of wine.  Ah well.  I think the -1800 calories from last week did indeed show up as half pound loss on my scale.  YAY!

So the plan for this week is to accumulate -1800 calories between now, which is Monday, and Sunday.  My in-laws are in town Sat & Sun, so I better plan those days to be maintenance or maybe a little over.  I'm aiming for -500 calories today.

Congrats on your new weekly plan and the success of how its going! Sounds like you're on track!! I like your overall approach to this. I am sorry about the 4 fillings! Dentists stink!! (sorry if skipperdox is reading-you know what i went through and thats why I say it but I dont mean YOU!) Anyway, I hope you are ok now, they always give me fluoride treatments and I have been pretty good with the dentist as of late, knock on wood.

Anyway, keep up the fantastic work and and I am going to search your diary for new pics of your son!

For the moment I feel on track, OWF... however it IS the slow one!  I think it's been a month or two since I posted a pic of the little man.  How bout I'll post the next good one I can catch.

Yesterday was kinda interesting.  Not the most ideal food choices for breakfast and a few snacks, but I did manage to make my goal.
Day One, Week Two (Monday):
part of a scone, part of a turnover (400)
cup of soup and veggie burger (350)
piece of coffeecake and cup of decaf (300)
leftover homemade gumbo (300)
non-dairy "ice cream" sandwich (150)
small salad and small hummus wrap (150)
TOTAL 1700.  -300 via diet, -200 via TJ DVD workout.  -500 total!

Aiming for -500 today, but I'm feeling munchie AND promised hubby I'd try to squeeze in a nap (do I have time for that PLUS a workout?!?!).

I thought I had it all planned out to make my goal of -500 calories yesterday, but when I added it up I was only -400.  Oops.  That's still -900 for the week so far.  Only -900 more to go for this week's goal!

Week Two, Day Two (Tuesday):
oatmeal (250)
part of a cinn roll (200)
bran flakes cereal (250)
non-dairy "ice cream" sandwich (150)
apple (100)
veggie burger & baked potato (500)
healthy choice frozen dinner and another "ice cream" sandwich (350)
TOTAL 1800.  -200 via diet, -200 via TJ DVD workout.

Today's goal is -400, all via diet because I'm cleaning and errands today during my breaks.

Same old, same old...

Week Two, Day Three (Wednesday):

bites of unfilled pate a choux (100)

non-dairy "ice cream" sandwich (150)
veggie burger (250)
half of hubby's egg sandwich (200)
big bowl of soup with crackers (300)
decaf coffee with soy milk and a little bit of hummus with cracker (100)
TOTAL 1600.  -400 cal via diet.  No cardio exercise.  -1300 for the week so far!

I hate to have three days in a row with no exercise, but I'm really doubtful that I'll get to it today.  I have other things to do... but there's always something else, so I can't keep falling back on that as a reason/excuse.  I wish I had a workout partner so it would be like a date I couldn't easily break.

Week Two, Day Four (Thursday):
small bit of granola (100)
oatmeal (250)
part of a bagel with bit of cream cheese (350)
chicken breast and toast (500)
decaf with soy milk and non-dairy ice cream sandwich (200)
banana and hummus sandwich (350)
TOTAL 1700.  -300 via diet.  -1600 for the week so far.

Goal for today is -300.  Then I'll have to stay at maintenance for Saturday and Sunday.  Hubby is trying hoping for buffet dinner on Sunday... but it's a seafood restaurant, so it might be ok.

Finished up Week Two, Day Five with -300 calories.  So that made -1900 (or half pound) for the week.  Days Six and Seven were maintenance (or possibly a little over, I didn't count one day).  So as long as I didn't screw up the end of the week, the scale should settle out less half a pound in the next day or two.  It does seem like it's going to do so.

I am taking today "off" as well.  Then I will resume Week Three starting tomorrow.  I was thinking about being more aggressive this week... maybe -3000 pounds or something?? I finally have a weekend where I am not going out of town and I have no out-of-town guests, so I should be able to be more disciplined!

Week Three, Day One (Tuesday):
protein bar (200)
mini roast beef sandwich (200)
bowl of bran flakes (300)
sweet potato, plain (200)
"flat out" wrap (200)
non-dairy ice cream sandwich (200)
baked salmon (300)

TOTAL 1700.  -300 via diet + -200 via Turbo Jam workout.  -500 total.

I'll have to be about -500 every day this week to reach my goal.  I'm struggling today because I had a REALLY traumatic morning at work.  One of my co-workers has been flat out lying about me to others... and another has developed paranoid delusions because of it.  So I think I'll have to quit... I can't figure out how to fix the situation.  Crazy people can't be un-crazied and evil people can't be un-eviled.  I'm very upset and feel depressed.

What a precious child!

As far as your co-workers....have you tried talking to them?  I'm sorry that's happening to you.  The world is fullllll of crazies.  Hang in there.

Unfortuneately I did try talking to them... that's why it was traumatic and also why I finally came to the conclusion that they were crazy.  Talk about delusional!

But thanks for the encouragement.  I do feel a little better now.  I still don't see how I can get around quitting... they said some things that burn all bridges in my opinion.  But now I'm kinda looking forward to figuring out what I can do next!

Oh, what a cutie! He has a very alert, bright look. Sitting up pretty well - how old is he now?

A new job - that'd be interesting.

Thanks guys for the support.  I try to keep my diary food-related... but I guess it just all spilled over.  I am actually still thinking about re-establishing my little venture on my own.  It was on hold once baby was on the way and I needed to save all the money I could.  But it's always in the back of my mind.  Anyway, my boss feels bad about my situation and wants to keep me on with less hours and little interaction with the people causing me issues.  Seems silly that it has to be that way, but there it is.  Actually might be perfect since I can still earn some steady money there and have enough time to pursue my own thing.

Anyway, back to the task at hand!
Week Three, Day Two (Wednesday):
protein bar (200)
toast and jam (300)
baked sweet potato and sour cream (300)
cheese & ham wrap (300)
big salad and some crackers (400)

TOTAL 1500.  -500 via diet.  Not ideal but I had a headache all day.  No excuse today though!!!  Eek I better get off my bum!

Week Three, Day Three (Thursday):
pancakes (300)
ww wrap with ham and cheese and little mayo (400)
toast with jam (200)
another wrap (300)
crackers (100)
sweet potato with sour cream (300)
another piece of toast (100)
TOTAL 1700.  -300 via diet, -200 via TJ DVD workout.  -500 total and -1500 for the week so far.  I didn't realize how boring my food was yesterday until I wrote it down just now.  I really need to go to the store again!

This week feels like it is going really well, but the scale doesn't seem to be impressed.  It kind of fluctuated back up to where I was a week or two ago.  We'll see what it does in the next few days.  Today I'm taking a close-to-maintenance day with probably small calorie deficit.

Oh my gosh...that's the first time I've seen a pic of your baby....what a little joy that's got to be to come home to everyday after dealing with stupid co-workers!

....that's why I'm trying to be a really nice, good girl in this lifetime...so in my next life I will be independently wealthy and won't have to deal with work-place drama - just kidding.

You're right Suenos... coming home does put all the silly work things in perspective.  Thank goodness I am a rational person that can shake off all that drama and get on with real life.  Usually anyway!

Yesterday was a maintenance day, 2000 calories in.  Honestly I don't know what I'm doing today.  I feel a little frustrated because I thought I should be seeing more progress than I currently am.  Maybe it's time for another break?!?!

And loving it!
