Sorry to hear you hit a rough patch, Trim.  I'm sure it's just a tough time right now; new mommy...going back to work (yikes!)...and desperately trying to find free time to work out...among all the other regular responsibilities.  Try not to be too hard on yourself - there's so much on your plate right now.  I can remember how I felt when I returned back to work after having my son...it wasn't pretty let me tell ya.  Quite an emotional time to say the least.

Like Peter said - you came back fighting.  That's what's important.  Hang in there Trim, those pants will be fitting soon!

Okay, Scoobs - the word for the day is "patience".  For myself and for everyone else.  I've been cranky with everyone around me lately (including myself) and it isn't nice or fair to anyone.

For Monday:
cereal with soy milk
soy decaf latte
apple
chicken breast & hummus ww wrap
soy yogurt
ww toast with egg whites + 1 egg
chicken breast, half of a potato, peas
half of a glass of wine
TOTAL 1800, 26% Protein, 21% Fat.  A bit high on calories but percentages looked good.  No exercise .  Met a friend for coffee in the morning when I normally would workout.  It was a nice excuse, but I can't keep making them.  That being said, another friend from out of town is visiting today - arriving shortly.  I would love to suggest going for a walk, but it is 100 degrees outside today!!  Maybe TJ DVD in the afternoon if I can muster the energy...

The scale finally nudged down a bit!  I plan to keep it there, plus more, too.
I have another road trip to Cincinnati planned - leaving tomorrow.  It really threw my progress off last time I went, even though I didn't feel terribly naughty.  I'll have to formulate a better plan this time.

For Tuesday:
cereal with soy milk
cake samples
chicken breast, 1 corn tortilla, chips
soy yogurt
protein bar
big salad
ww tortilla with hummus
TOTAL 1550, 19% Protein, 28% Fat.  Scale says 138.  Friend was visiting most of the day - no exercise. :nono:

Final cake tasting that I've been working on for a week is today.  Will have to take tiny bites and adjust the rest of the accordingly.

No junk food while on road trip.  No junk food while on road trip.
I will not snack non-stop while visiting my mom.  I will not snack non-stop while visiting my mom.

For Wednesday:
cake tasting for work
10 grain cereal
protein bar
soy yogurt
pork & veggies stir fry with rice
tomato soup and crackers
TOTAL 1700, 17% Protein, 24% Fat.  30 minutes of pilates.  Protein has been lacking the last few days.  Scale says 138... I counting it as official!!  What great motivation not to indulge this weekend while I'm out of town - I want the scale to stay right there!!

Thanks Scoobs!  I guess I shouldn't have said that I wanted the scale to stay right there... I really want it to go down even more!!

We got back into town last night.  Trip was pretty successful.  I did not feel like I was snacking out of control.  And the scale did stay right where it was.
I kept approximate calorie counts:
Thursday 1900 cals
Friday 1900 cals
Saturday 2200 cals (maintenance day)
Sunday 1850 cals

And we won't be relocating out of town after all.  My hubby got a good job here, and I can stay on part-time at my old job.  Now we just have to find a place to live (upgrading to a 2 bedroom apt) and move in two weeks!!!  Soooo I've been really busy today looking at apartments and whatnot.  I'm tired already!

I am letting myself off the hook for now from doing detailed food logs (ie fat%, protein%).  It takes quite a bit more time and effort, and the next week or two is going to be exhausting anyway.  Finding a new apt in two weeks and moving is stressful.  Theo is going through a "I refuse to take naps" phase, so my free time is almost non-existent.  Luckily he's starting to sleep through the night or mostly at least, so I might feel a bit more well rested.

For Monday:
pria bar (100)
10 grain cereal with honey (300)
pb sandwich (400)
soy yogurt (150)
large apple (150)
leftover rice and veggies (300)
lentils and bread (350)
TOTAL 1750 cals.  Nice 40 minute walk in the morning.  If only the rest of the day had gone so nicely.

Yesterday did not start out so great, but definitely got better.  Things are starting to calm down a teeny bit (for now at least), so I might be able to fit in a proper workout AND a nap later today.  Dare to dream!  I'm starting to work the 4am shift several days a week again, so midday naps - on these days at least - are important.

For Tuesday:
cereal with soy milk and an apricot (350)
leftover lentils (150)
big turkey burger on a big bun and a few chips (750)
apple (100)
turkey and hummus ww wrap (250)
dry cereal snack (100)
TOTAL 1700.  Walked for about 40 minutes.  Weight said 137.5 this morning, woo!

Thanks YYG!  Although your post made me feel a bit guilty since I apparently could not resist a leftover croissant yesterday.  Dipped in my coffee (decaf, of course!)... too good!

For Wednesday:
couple of bites of a muffin (100)
cereal with soy milk (300)
croissant  (400)
big salad (150)
apricot and big bowl of roasted veggies (400)
ww tortilla with lean beef and rice (400)
TOTAL 1750.  Walked briskly for 45 minutes.  Scales says 137 today.  Here's hoping it keeps going down!

Hey Zen!!  We are both in the midst of great changes all over the place, eh?  It's hard to focus on the weight loss thing with all the other stuff going on, but I try not to make too many excuses for myself.  Especially eating healthy... this should be habit by now, right?!
Well yesterday wasn't so great.  I wanted to make a big salad all day, but I was working and then baby wrangling all day without a break.  Can't wait for this phase to be over.

For Thursday:
10 grain cereal and grapefruit (300)
glass of soy milk (150)
apricot and leftover burrito (450)
banana and roasted eggplant & turkey sandwich (350)
piece of chocolate (150)
bowl of cereal (300)
TOTAL 1700.  I think it might have been a little more than that, I feel bloaty today:sad:

I was EXTREMELY munchie yesterday.  Just felt like nothing was satisfying me - probably made worse by my poor food choices.  I decided to go ahead and have a maintenance day.  But that doesn't excuse my horrible choices plus my lack of self-control.  Not to mention the fact that I seem to only be able to exercise via short walks with stroller.  NEED to do Turbo Jam DVD or some other sort of actual cardio work.

For Friday, maintenance day:
bites of several leftover pastries at work
grapefruit
a bit of smoked salmon
croissant
handful of roasted pecans
naan bread
cereal
veggie pizza with soy cheese
TOTAL 2200.  Walked for 30 minutes.  Ugh.  Feel bloated again today and this time the scale seems to reflect that.

dry cereal
handful of cashews
baked fish and green beans
glass of wine
TOTAL 1700.  50 minutes of TJ plus 30 minutes of walking.  Scale says 137 today... I'm calling it official!

I keep forgetting to write about all of the diet changes I have made in the last 2 or 3 weeks, since my breastfed baby has had stomach issues.

1 - Dairy is out - no cheese, no milk, no yogurt.  It's kinda sad because dairy includes some good sources of lean protein (ie cottage cheese, skim milk).  But cheese was always one of my weaknesses, so I'm thinking of making this change permanent.  I do miss frozen yogurt though.

2 - Caffeine is out.  I haven't even really been tempted by iced tea, which I thought would be my weakness.  I still have decaf coffee which apparently does actually have some caffeine.

3 - Artificial sweeteners are out.  I've been thinking about doing this one for quite a while... mostly for my own health reasons.  I don't like to take medications or eat highly processed foods - so why would I eat this artificial chemical?  If I need something a little sweeter, I just use honey or sugar and account for the calories accordingly.  My taste buds quickly adjusted.

4 - Eggs are out.  This one is new as of yesterday.  I think egg whites might be okay?!?!  Need to test this one.  My mom has stomach issues with egg yolks but not whites.  Anyone else heard of this??

I think that's it.  I feel pretty good about all of these changes.  I think most of them will be permanent.  Maybe not in a strict fashion, but at least in my day-to-day choices.

Speaking of missing frozen yogurt... I went to the store to see about non-dairy "ice creams".  I thought I would give them a try, not expecting much.  I found one brand that is soy-based and sweetened with fruit juices.  Natural flavorings and not much else.  It's pretty tasty and only 120 calories per serving (1/2 cup).  Woo hoo!!

For Sunday:
blueberry pancakes
squash soup and mini turkey sandwich
soy frozen dessert
green beans and a few crackers
udon noodle soup with tofu and veggies
homemade peach cobbler (made for a friend who is visiting) :pig:
TOTAL 1750.  Walk 30 minutes, 20 minutes of yoga dvd.  Rodney Yee yoga kicks my bum again... I only made it 20 minutes out of 30 minute DVD.  I forgot how strenuous that particular workout is.  Not my best day, but again I did not feel out of control really.

I started a new work schedule yesterday... 4am to 9am Monday thru Friday.  It's only part-time, because I would occasionally like to see my husband.  I'm still trying to work out how to handle my meal/snack planning.  I didn't do so well yesterday and today.  4am is too early to eat, I just end up hungry for another snack or lunch by 8 or 9.  And waiting until I get home is too long - I'm starving and irrational about food choices.  Need to pick a set time to take a mini break and eat a mini snack.  Plus I need to take a supply of said mini snacks to work.

Monday:
mini roast beef sandwich
plain bagel
leftover udon noodle soup with tofu & veggies
soy yogurt
leftover cobbler
ham sandwich
cranberry juice
small glass of wine
TOTAL 1750.  TurboJam DVD for 40 minutes plus 30 minute walk.  Scale is back up to 138.  I'm starting to think I won't make my Sept 1 goal.   More consistent exercise will help, but I think a slight calorie reduction might be in order as well.  1600?

I just made a little trip to the store to get things to make take-to-work meals for my hubby... and I completely forgot about getting healthy snack stockpile for my own work issues.  So I have to figure something out for tomorrow.

I still haven't heard back for sure whether we were approved for the apartment we are supposed to be moving in to in a week and a half.  I just called them and apparently we won't know until Friday!!  Okay this is getting a little nerve-wracking!!  It feels wierd to be packing and not know for certain where we will be moving.

Tuesday:
half of lowfat muffin
toast and piece of turkey
biscotti and decaf coffee
turkey sandwich
apple
pineapple chunks
tuna sandwich
soy yogurt
TOTAL 1700.  Walked for 30 minutes plus lots of housework and packing.

Doing better yesterday and today so far.  I won't be able to Turbo Jam in my living room for a couple of weeks... it is now full of boxes.  Moving in 1 week, then probably another week or so to get things organized in the new place.  I'll have to re-think a way to squeeze in exercise between now and then.  Hubby and I have about an hour overlap during the week when we are both home, and I could potentially leave to take a quick jog.  But it's usually very hectic so I doubt it would actually happen.

For Wednesday:
some grapes and part of a banana
10 grain cereal
small hummus wrap
soy yogurt
big salad
pineapple chunks and a plum
barley salad with roasted veggies
toast with jam
TOTAL 1650.  Did Turbo Jam DVD for 40 minutes plus 30 minutes walking.

The last two days, Thursday and Friday, were really hectic.  Work, packing, cooking meals in advance, finding another apartment (we were turned down from the rent-controlled apt we applied for on a technicality).  I didn't exercise, except for my usual walks.  The good news is that I found us another apartment, and we were approved.  We move in a week!  So now I have lots to do again, of course!

I went jogging this morning, yay!

Thursday:
banana and pineapple chunks
oatmeal
barley and roasted veggie salad with pita
soy yogurt
toast and grapes
ww spaghetti with veggie "meatballs" and small glass of wine
TOTAL 1800.  OOOPS too high.

Friday:
small roast beef sandwich
part of a cinnamon roll
toast with banana
grapes
leftover ww spaghetti
plum
pita and turkey sausage
TOTAL 1600.  That's more like it.  Craving a big salad but no time for anything but leftovers.

Really want to wear my nice black eyelet cocktail dress to my stepsister's wedding in mid-September.  It doesn't quite fit yet, but I think I might have a shot at it if I keep plugging away.

Busy busy.  Packing and getting ready to move in less than a week.  Apartment is half packed - basically in a shambles.  Right now I'm just focusing on keeping calories in target range... exercise will have to wait for the most part.

For Sunday:
hubby made biscuits
sliced turkey
ww wrap with hummus
plum and strawberries
roast beef on wheat
air popcorn
small extra lean hamburger
TOTAL 1700.

I had a bad day yesterday and so far today too.  I've been feeling really bingey, so I interpret this to mean that my body is resisting weight loss.  It may be time for a maintenance day, but that CAN'T mean complete indulgence on whatever I want.  Vegetables are conspicuously missing since I am trying to empty my fridge before we move.  It's "Iron Chef" (ie use only the ingredients on hand) for another week or so.

Tomorrow is my day to sleep in until 6am (yes this is sleeping in for the 4am baker!) and take a relaxing morning jog.  Wish me luck in dragging myself out of bed!

For Monday:
mini hummus sandwich
leftover biscuits
small lean hamburger
hummus on ww tortilla
croissant
apple
small taste of lo mein with tvp and a small glass of wine
TOTAL 1800.  Walked for 30 minutes.

Took a nice vigorous walk yesterday and almost polished off the last of the veggies (baby carrots).  The morning was a debacle of munching while I was at work, but the rest of the day wasn't quite as atrocious.

For Tuesday:
apple and a few grapes
bacon slices
cookie dough bites
lo mein with tvp
croissant
another apple
baby carrots
TOTAL 1650.  45 minutes of walking.

*** I forgot to write that the scale said 135 this morning.  Even if it only said 136 - I'll take it!  135 was my original Sept 1 goal... I don't think I'll officially make it, but at least I seem to be really close. ***

Feeling pretty good lately.  Scale says 136.5 this morning... so not exactly the 135 I saw yesterday, but it does seem to be inching down slowly.  One more pair of jeans now fits too!
Still more packing to do for move coming up this weekend.  Will be nice to be re-settled in a week or so!

For Wednesday:
toast
hubby made strawberry pancakes
ww tortilla with hummus
small portion of tvp with lo mein noodles
alot of baby carrots
pita
pretzels and trail mix
TOTAL 2200.  Walked 45 minutes.  This was a planned and measured maintenance day.  I've been thinking I needed one lately, but I didn't want it to end up just being a stupid binge.  So I indulged my carb cravings heartily, and I feel much more in control today so far.

Still on track - eating within reason, but exercise routine postponed due to move in-process.  Scale says 134.5 this morning... can you say fluctuate?!?  Do I report that I'm at 136 now for the end of the Sept 1 challenge?  I guess technically I have one more morning to decide.

For Thursday:
banana and strawberries
mini roast beef sandwich
stir fry veggies with chix breast and rice
pita
turkey on wheat
curried tempeh
TOTAL 1600.  Walk for 30 minutes.

That's exactly why I'm using a 'weighted moving average' system [I use physicsdiet.com - there are others available]. For example my readings this morning, yesterday and the day before are 55.5, 55.0 and 54.5 - but this does not mean I'm gaining a pound every day. Nor does it mean "I've reached 54.5". The trend line has visited places like 54.88 .. 55.05 over the last 10 days, so I know I'm around the 55kg mark, whatever the scale feels like saying!

Yes, Nir, I remember you talking about this - and I am interested... I guess I just haven't been interested enough yet to check it out.  I have an excel graph that has a trendline based on all the data I've inputted so far.  So it's similar but probably not quite as useful as your moving average.

So the scale reads 135.5 this morning, and the above mentioned trendline is at 136.  Only 1 pound off from my Sept 1 goal.  I'm pleased.

Not so pleased with yesterday's results.  No good reason for what happened.  Lack of willpower:
banana & peach
1/4 of a bagel and a biscotti scrap
melon & pineapple chunks
boca burger
rice with okra (cleaning out fridge & freezer)
leftover cinnamon roll
pretzels
asian tofu "salad" with veggies
TOTAL 2000.  Not good at all.  Normal walk for 30 minutes.

I made this big decision to treat myself to a snickerdoodle at the farmer's market this morning, and then the bakery guy wasn't there. Send me a cinnamon roll!

Thanks Scoobees!  It feels like I've been gone forever!  I just got my internet re-connected today after moving about 3 weeks ago.  I didn't know it would take that long.

In short, I've been very busy with the move and adjusting to new challenges to my workout routine which was already challenging motivation-wise.

Weight is 134.5 pounds as of this morning.  Will do a measurements and body fat check this weekend.  Have worked out the last few days really trying to re-form some sort of exercise habit.  Eating has been mediocre... averaging about 1800 per day with little splurges almost every day.  So in other words - some progress but pretty slow due to my seemingly constant slip-ups.

Off to catch up with others!

There!  I did it!  I found your diary.  I've been on this forum since June, but i hadn't really gotten the nack of finding other people's diaries.
A pastry chef, with a young child, who weighs 134.5 lbs?  Yikes! That takes real willpower!!

Oh yeah, I forgot!  Before I figured out how to reply to you in your own diary, or how to read your diary, I did something I never did before.  I used the "send a private message" function to reply to you.  I see now that when I do that, I don't have any record of having done it...weird...Did you get it?
I made an error in the book title that I told you I'd been asking Oldest Son to find me for Christmas.  It's The Theory and Practice of Good Cooking, by James Beard.  It's not a recipe book, but a really great companion to keep in your back pocket when you're inventing new recipes with what's at hand in the kitchen.  Unfortunately, it's out of print, so only used copies can be found, when they can be found at all.
Well, enjoy the day.

Thanks newstart!  I did get your private message.  It sounds like an interesting book.  Hope you find and enjoy it!

Still feel like I'm catching up - life in general and reading on the forums.  Not feeling ready to post all my eating yet... not because it's bad, just lazy.  See can't even form complete sentences haha!!

Yesterday was 1700 calories and went running for 25 minutes or so.  I would like to work back up (slowly) to 45-60 minutes per session 2 or 3 times per week.  If I can also do a couple of workout DVDs per week, then I will feel pretty accomplished!

Busy busy yesterday between work and chores and baby... active but no formal cardio workout.  I've been taking a 30-60 minute walk every day for months now, so that's not even counted anymore.

I will commit today to doing some sort of activity (besides the normal walk) even if it is just 20 minutes of pilates in the evening.

Yesterday was a planned maintenance day.  Whenever the cravings for junk food start getting intense and my tummy growls when I'm trying to sleep at night - then it's time for a maintenance day.  I'm not one for letting myself feel deprived!  Was at 2000 calories yesterday.

Okay, so I kind of kept my committment yesterday.  I took an extra walk.  So 2- 45 minute walks yesterday.  Off work today, yay!  Plus I got 8 hours of sleep last night... in a row!!  Thank you Theo!  In other words, I have absolutely no reason not to bust out a TJ DVD at some point today.

Not so good as far as what I ate yesterday... need to start reporting again so I am shamed into eating more healthfully.  I am indeed embarassed.
For Friday:
ww bagel
decaf with soy milk
cereal with soy milk
decaf with soy milk
bites of hubby's scone
homemade veggie jambalaya with brown rice
ww tortilla
piece of dark chocolate
cinnamon apples
TOTAL 1900.
Was not supposed to be a semi-high day - I was aiming for 1700.  Too much junky food and too many carbs.  There is little protein in my house right now and budget is so tight I'm trying to avoid the grocery store.  Excuses, excuses, I know.

You're right Nir!  It is affordable, but a little difficult to find however.  I used to live 4 blocks from a great grocery store that carried it.  Now I live 4 blocks from a not-as-great store that does not carry it.  I need to make a special trip and really stock up!

Tofu isn't too dearly priced, but I don't care for it quite as much.  I was thinking of cans of tuna too.  Unfortuneately eggs/egg whites and any dairy are out due to digestive reasons.

I was 15 minutes into my promised TJ DVD when I was interrupted!!  Bummer!  I'm determined to re-start now when I should have at least another free 15 minutes.  So off I go!!

Ugh still feels like I'm getting back on track.  I did indeed finish that TJ workout, however.  So at least I accomplished something.  Also took 2 walks - about 45 minutes each.  So I definitely feel very active... but the eating is not so great.

For Saturday:
cereal with soy milk
cinnamon apples and coffee with soy milk
turkey on ww
leftover veggie jambalaya
piece of dark chocolate (the last of it!!)
small ww wrap
lean cuisine frozen dinner
TOTAL 1850.  See what I mean?  Not much better than yesterday.  And my target has been 1700!  I just use it all up too early... not enough nutrient-rich/calorie-lite foods.  I'm planning a grocery trip to stock up early this coming week.

I forgot to post my latest measurements...

Pre-baby stats: about 125-130 pounds and 20-22% body fat
6/20: 148 pounds, roughly 33% body fat, 31.5" waist, 36.5" belly button, 39.5" hips
6/29: 142.5 pounds, roughly 32% body fat, 31" waist, 35.5" belly button, 39" hips
7/6: 142 pounds, roughly 31% body fat, 30.5" waist, 35" belly button, 38.5" hips
7/13: 140 pounds, roughly 31% body fat, 30.5" waist, 34.5" belly button, 38.5" hips
7/19: 140 pounds, roughly 31% body fat, 30.5" waist, 34.5" belly button, 38" hips

7/26: 139 pounds, roughly 30% body fat, 30" waist, 34.5" belly button, 38" hips
8/19: 137 pounds, roughly 29% body fat, 29.5" waist, 34.25" belly button, 38" hips
8/25: 137 pounds, roughly 29% body fat, 29.24" waist, 33.5" belly button, 38" hips
9/23: 135 pounds, roughly 29% body fat, 29" waist, 33.25" belly button, 37.25" hips

Thankfully still trending in the right direction, even if the progress is slow.  Still alot of work to do on that body fat percentage.  I guess if it doesn't continue going down soon, then I'll have to tweak my plan.  I can't believe I used 22% body fat at most!!

A teeny little bit better yesterday as far as my total calories go.  I guess I'm inching down towards my 1700 target.  But I was baking chocolate cake for hubby's bday this week... and of course I wanted to taste this new recipe I was trying.  Just a couple bites of scraps.

Barely got more than a few 15 minute breaks yesterday.  I kept waiting for a longer break to workout, but it never materialized.  Bummer.

Sunday:
oatmeal and decaf coffee
turkey wrap
leftover veggie jambalaya
cake scraps
lamb kofta stuffed pita (good but a little too big)
TOTAL 1800.

Still am inching down to that 1700 calorie target.  Speaking of inching down... the scale said 132 this morning.  Wow!  It has been hovering around 133 (which is where my trendline says I should be) lately, but it sure is nice to see that number!

Another kinda rough day yesterday with very little breaks.  My to-do list keeps getting longer and exercise was neglected again.  In-laws are visiting this weekend, so major cleaning starting tomorrow.
For Monday:
cereal and decaf
lean burger and bun
toast and jam, another decaf with milk
english muffin "pizza" with soy cheese
ww pita
TOTAL 1750.
WOW, hello carbs!!  Got some turkey this morning, and should be going to the grocery store soon.

Trim!!!

Congrats on your stats consistently decreasing all around!!! 132 lbs WOW!!!! I cant NOT wait for the day my stupid evil scale rewards me that way!!! CONGRATS to you!!

Any new pics of the baby? I am just getting "back in cph town" and getting caught up with you guys...so I will scroll through and see if I missed some posts!!!

Your cinnamon apple snacks sound AMAZING!!! I could go for that right about now!!!!

OWF

PS How did you figure out that you were allergic to dairy and egg/egg whites? I assume process of elimination but if there is another way, I would love to hear it! I suffer from IBS symptoms of bloating ALL the time and dr.'s STILL have NO clue WHY. Just suspicions of wheat gluten intolerance OR dairy intolerance...but no confirmation after allergy tests were completed. So, just wondering if you went to a specialist for that or figured it out on your own?

BUMMER I lost my post!!  Argh!

Here's a recap...
Tuesday was 1800 calories + TJ DVD workout
Wednesday was 1700 + errands & cleaning all day
weight still says 132 but the official average is 133.

I don't have the dairy/eggs allergy officially confirmed.  It was just by process of elimination.  And it isn't me, in fact, it's Theo's allergy (I'm breastfeeding).  He had tummy problems & face rash.  Once I forgot and ate yogurt... face rash quickly returned.  So I think that seems to be proof for me.
Speaking of the little man - here's a latest pic.
