| well wieght todayis172.5. went tobed with 1300 cals for the day. no exercise except going up and down 3 flights Of stairs about ten times today. figured out why the lbs are not going faster..just like my husband said....my fat percentage is down 5% from33to 27! hubs kept telling me I was firming up but my stupid mind would not except anything but lower scale numbers! Ineed to go by what Dr. Furhman is sayimg about focusing on eating and beeing healthy and the wieght qill just come off on its own.

Your right, but it's hard getting ourselves to believe that sometimes. You could measure yourself, if that would make you feel better.

| You what I can't figure out, and maybe you will know. But, when you want to quote something someone said instead of the whole text. I can't figure it out to save my life. I should just read the instruction on here. I am sure it tells a person how to do those things. But, then that's kind of like reading the directions when putting something together, wouldn't want to do that, lol.

You know what? I don't even know how to post a quote at all!
Food for the day was verry Furhmanish.............Breakfast was fruit with tahini. Lunh was a HUGE of green salad with lots of veggies, tofu (steamed withought oil), on a slice of sourghdough toast and hot sauce, greens that were steamed w/vinegar. supper was another large salad w/ lemon juice (again no oil) and a small bowl (that started out a big bowl until I found out there was olive oil in it half way through eating it ) of vegan black bean chili . It was good while it lasted!
So then while doing the dishes the 12 year old son comes in from baking with dad to inform me the sweet sticky buns he made to day dhould come out of the oven around 9:30 if I am going to be awake to partake in them ! Ok so I am going to bed in a few minutes and will NOT go out to the bakery to give hubs a well meanind kiss goodnight .

Your breakfast and lunch sounds so good, especially the fruit with tahini (love that stuff)...actually you had me right up to the tofu & hot sauce ....spent a whole trying to convince myself that "I like tofu, I like tofu"...yea, I hate the stuff . Have a wonderful day!

I can make myself eat tofu. But, to be honest, I have never liked it.

Tofu .Actualy it took me awhile to know how to fix it to my liking and it actualy is pretty tasty! I slice it the thicker way and put a mixture of soy sauce, garlic powder and onion powder on it. Oil my pan lightly and pour the soy sasuce mixture over it. I cookit till it runs almost dry and then add some water, just enough to help steam it a little longer. I love it on sour bread with a homemade hot pepper sauce.
In any case gave in to the sweet rolls as they were sent over from the bakery for the children. Why can't just leave things alone !

9:am fruit mix w/1Tbs tahini at 300cals.
12:00 large salad with lots of veggies, tofu on sd toast and hot sauce at 350cals.
3:pm veggie stix and hummus at 250 cals.
6:oo pm large salad ( no oil as is lunches) tofu or bean burger and steamed kale at 300 cals.
9:00pm another protien shake with less pwd and 1 frozen banana. at 200 cals.
so that is1500-1600 a day.

Oh, yeah, first let me address the technical difficulties.
First, if you want to quote part, but not all, hit the QUOTE button then in the resulting text box you can delete the part the person wrote that you don't care about.
And losing the whole post - yeah - that typically happens when you backspace or delete over an emoticon or graphics - it's a buggy thing with the board software (Nir cannot do anything about it so I believe) and so you have to be cautious. Sometimes in the event of a long post I keep open a Word doc window and cut and paste over to it once in a while to make sure I have a backup going.
Anyway, I am just catching up with you a little and I saw that you've dropped 5 points in your body fat percentage which is just terrific! You must feel so great with everything you've achieved so far. Keep it up Cindy!

Hey, thanks for the info on the quote thing, it was driving me nuts. I don't why I didn't think of that. It was right under my nose the whole time. lol
The copy and paste thing, I have done with success at times... I was getting ticked one day and did that, and it actually worked...

Thanks moly for popping into my jouenal again. Yes, the muscle is increasing and fat decreasing, but the scale won't budge off of 173! That part is kindof frustrating. But I know if I focus on being healthy and not getting skinny then I will be happy. My husband wondered if all my fretting was actualy causing my body to hold on to the wieght? Is that possible?

(Female, 44, 5'5", 150lb)
unadjusted RMR = 1331 (don't go below this)
maintenance calories for different activity levels:
sedentary = 1597
lightly active = 1830
moderately active = 2063 (careful: this one only applies if you really believe that you are burning an extra 466 calories in exercise, 7 days a week)
Those figures are maintenance, so to create a deficit you eat less than them (but not less than 1331)

| Thanks nir. I know I am ot 150lbs but I have a new theory that if I eat like a lightly active one then my should equal out to that wieght, right? Then when I hit150 Iwill eat like a 130lb woman until I get to that wieght. Does this sound loopy or like a plan?

The only danger with a plan like that is that you'll be eating too much and not creating enough of a deficit to lose weight (or to lose weight quickly enough).
For examle, are you going to eat 1830, like the 150lb lightly active woman who wants to stay at her current weight, or 1330, like that same woman who is creating a 500 calorie deficit to hopefully lose 1lb per week?
(what is your current weight and how does the amount you intend to consume compare with your maintenance calories as calculated at your current weight, in other words what deficit are you actually creating?)

| my current wieght is 171 lbs. and I exercise 3-4 days a week for 30-45mins. I also do not sit around for any length of tim watching tv etc..LIVE on the third floor of an old farm house and carry my 22lb toddler up and down abojt 5-6 times a day. So I di not know if that is considered lightly active or not? Im a?y case I am finding it very difficult(even with the etl woe) to droo the pounds. I love to take nrisk walks but the snow hear in Vermont makes it more than chalenging as I have sprained my ankle several times in the past and do not want to take the chance again. I am looking into gettinf a rebounder ad we can not?afford a treadmill. Does this help you help me at all?

S O ..... wiegh in at 171. Ithink it went dowm because I did not eat anything after lunch, which was around 1:00 in the afternoon. But I I was not even hungry. Idid have hot ginger tody before bed (trying to beat off this cold!).
So today is same as yesterday..food wise; fruit with tahini for breakfast, cup o joe with goat milk,( it was fresh so verry good!) . Lunch was large salad with feta cheese, tofu and a few olives, little creamy itlian dressing. So I figure 980 calories so far? I will eat steamed collords and brocolli later and maybe some sour dough toast? Bringing me to what 1300cals for the day. Yesterday it was way low at 1100 for the whole day. Well maybe not I never cou ted the hot tody with finger brandy. Any idea how many cals in that?

With that number I can bring my observation to life.
If you are 171lb and lightly active then your maintenance calories are 1962. If you eat like a lightly active 150lb woman wants to maintain her weight (1830) then you have a calorie deficit of 132, at that rate you'll be lucky to loose one pound every 27 days. As you lose weight your rate of loss will only get worse (slow down). You'll get there eventually but it will take years.
Conclusion: better to eat like that 150lb woman when she's on a diet say 1500 (or a bit lower - as discussed above).
(A 25ml shot of Brandy will be about 60 calories on its own)

Well I am happy today! Mostly because I get to use a real computer again! But also the hubs got me a new fangled rebounder with attaching resistant bandas and a built on pedometer, calorie calculator thinga magigy. I have been using it the past few days and feel like I am accomplishing some good exercise again!
Also i did not want to weigh myself this morning but after my workout and shower I took the mirror into my room ( I know vanity vanity ) and took a good look at myself all naked. I was actually shocked . See, the bathroom we had at the apt in Brattleboro had a big mirror right outside the shower and I got to see all the bad ugly rolls getting in and out of the shower. But hear we do not have one and I have not had time to think about it. So when I looked at myself in the face mirror I was pleasantly surprised to see rolls not there and actual definition in my tummy. I am actually getting somewhere. So tommorow I will weigh in and measure for the week. I just have to stay out of the bakery tonight as hubs has a wheel of brie cheese, crackers and rasberry jam in there !

Hey there, I just started (and read all the way through) your diary. I wanted to say congratulations on your weight loss, you have lost a lot of weight, and I am sure it shows a big difference in your body. Also, I have to hand it to you, you get in a LOT of exercise and eat so healthy! That is amazing especially for a woman who is a mother of small children and running her own business. I don't do even a fraction of what you do exercise-wise and I have NO children I have to look after. (I do work full-time, but children I think are a greater stressor than full-time work because children are always there and you get no break from them. At least with work the workday ends around 5pm and then of course you have weekends and paid holidays. Not so with children!)
And you are right, this site is distracting AND addicting, but I LOVE it. I have no problems being addicted to stuff and I am always looking for a new obsession/addiction, lol
Also, that is quite interesting about your little commune that you live on. It reminds me of a kibbutz or a 60s co-op. Really cool!

Thanks for visiting my journal terabyte. Yes, children are all consuming! I feel bad when , like tonight I was laying the baby down, singing to her and had the 2 younger boys in the next room trying to get them to bed and I am just all anxious to get on this laptop to post or go to My Plate to see how many calories I ate today. I get frustrated when my focus is divided and then I do not even enjoy putting my children to bed! It makes me wish I could just be normal about food and exercise and not obsess bout it so much! Oh well I did tell them how much I love them and gave kisses and all. Tomorrow is another day.
And Yes the community we live in is great. We live in a basin on a farm and have a cafe in an adjoining town. We sell our baked goods and healthy soups and sandwiches there. We love meeting people and telling them of our hope. Ask anything you want about it. I like to answer questions .

You are doing GREAT! Inches are as good as pounds. Really do we want to say to our self "I weigh x" or do we want to look GREAT in our clothes and feels comfortable with what we see in the mirror?
I think we don't care what we weigh as much as how good we look in our birthday suit

Thanks Hoofprints! Yes I am starting to like the way I look in my birthday suit! One thing I was wondering though is if someone looses weight, like I have lost 30lbs since I had my daughter 20 months ago( It is not a fast lose and I am not down to where I was before being pregnant (which was 160lbs) )but when I see my upper body it looks smaller to me than before I gained all that weight. Is that possible that I am loosing more up top and will it catch up on the bottom? Does this make sense to anyone?

oh yes it does ....the bottom bits (tummy, butt, thighs) they seem to be stuck on with stronger velcro. Why does god do that? first to get larger, last to shrink.

You are soooooooooooooooo right hooferprints! first to get big last to shrink . I think it is to help us to stay consistant. I would probably quit eating healthy if mu but and legs got small as fast as my face does!
And thank you much Suenos. I just posted a request in your journal for that again.

Well today is a 1/2 day eats day. I ate breakfast; fruit ( not as big as usual), 2 slices sd toast w/ 1 0z brie cheese and some strawberry jam. @ cup coffee w/ milk=600 cal but I knew it was gonna be high.
Then lunch was chicken cheese w/ mayo on 2 small rounds of rye and 4 stix celery.=500? '
A snack of balance bar aroud 2ish=250 cals
=1350 for the day. I will have no other food for the day just 2 strong cups od yerba mate foe dinner.
I think as long as I am getting my 1400 cals in or around that I should be fine to eat like this occasionaly. Of cource I should have more green raw stuff tommorow.

hey cindy:
re: the info you asked for earlier
I'd suggest (now that you have a real computer yey!!) you go to this site: http://www.exrx.net/index.html and go over it carefully....IMO, if you're into (or want to) get into weight resistance but don't have access to a gym or trainer this is the first place to go to get a good idea about what different movements look like, what the correct form is, and exactly which muscles are being worked and how.
Next up, you said you've got 15lb weights---question: do you have any lighter (i.e. 3-5 lbls) or heavier (at least 20lbs?) And if I'm remembering you've got a swiss ball right?
There's 2 options I'd reccommend off the bat:
option one: pick three days (not consecutive) you can spend 30-45 mins on your routine (i.e. M-W-F) for a full body routine (three compound movements & 2 accessory movements)...personally this is my preference for beginners; you can do your preferred form of cardio either after the weights work-out or on the days you don't do weights
option two: . pick four or five days (can be consecutive) you can spend 20-30 mins on your routine and do an upper body/lower body split with the cardio coming post weights work-out on the days you don't do a lower body routine.
Either way, the key to getting any results is going to be consistency- so if you know you have 20 mins a day that you can devote to resistance exercise, but having 30-45 three days a week just isn't in your timetable, then option two is better cause you'll actually be able to do it .
Couple questions: how's your flexibility? (i.e. can you bend over and touch your toes pretty easily?) do you have any joint (tennis elbow? wonky knees?) issues other than the previously spraned ankle? What are your current measurements? Also notice you're following ETL...do you have any problems taking in a form of liquid protein following your weights routine because 8oz of skim milk is ideal but it that's an "no-no" soy milk is a second option.
Okay chica, look over the site, let me know what option works best for ya and anwsers to the above questions (and feel free to ask any questions you might have also) and I'll shoot something your way in terms of a specific reccommended work-out plan with weights for ya.
Happy New Year!

Thank you suenos for the sight. I am not sure what to pull up on it though, as there seems to be a lot of information . (technologically chalanged). In any case, to answer your questions; I am pretty flexible; can place my hands flately on the floor, no real knee problems or anything else except the the skittish ankle.
My measurements are ,as of December 28: breast 37 1/2", waist 33", hips 42 1/2" thighs25" . Also I weighed in this morning at 171. Oh by the way if you read earlier where I wrote that my fat had decresed by 5 points well it was a false reading on my fangly dangly water/fat reading scale (how do they figure that out!). And yes I could take a dairy protein after weights. I actually have a few whey powder drinks would that suffice? We also get goats milk really fresh ( right from the nanny morning and evening ).
So yea I am very happy about the 171lbs reading because was stuck after thanksgiving at 174-175. It would not move. But I am doing the MUFAs and not eating after 3 o'clock the past few days and this has seemed to help move things a little. But I am eating between 1400-1500 a day AND I have been using the re-bounder for a good heart raising workout.
I believe you, that consistency is the key. Unfortunately it is one of my greatest weaknesses . But I can change.
Thank you for all your input. Hope your new year is going well so far.

Well food for the day was: breakfast fruit mix w/o tahini but did have 3 almond for the mufas=400
after that digested i had 2 thin slices sunny flax toast w/1oz brie and 2tbs strjam=280
later cup joe w/ milk=90
lunch: lare salad w/ balsalmic vinegeratt(too much oil) 1/4 avocdo(mufas) and 3//4c chicken salad. 1/2 cup squash soup ( it looked yummy)=750 cals
Then I had yerba mate w/ milk and honey=65
So that is all before 3:00 and I am done eating at 1600 calories. 150 more than I should have but I won't eat again until about 12:00 tomorow so it will do me untill then . When the scale read 171 this morning wit me still beiieng at ttotm I was sure this way is working. So i will see what I weigh in at tommorow. My official wiegh in is Sunday hope to be in 60s by then .

Hey Cindy:
I'm going to send you a p.m. (so I don't clog up your diary with it) probably on Sat with some real specific suggestions that I think you'll like
Meanwhile, I just wanted to wish you all the best for the new year and tell you how nice it is to have you on the forums. Oh, and I'm giving you a new years wish: may you end the year being techno savvy......you've already mastered "LOL" .....lol

Your sweet suenos .
Woke up and wieghed in at 170. So this is working But was so hungry and hurt my back yesterday so one of the women hear is making my fruit bowl and I have not gotten it yet. But I ate my 6 almonds, cup pf joe w/milk and couple bites of the end of the babys oatmeal and last few bites of the unwanted raisin toast . So I am picking. After I got the joe in I feel more settled. Gotta get off of it and back to the plain yerba mate as my drink of choice, or regular green tea would even be better . Just got the fruit so I will eat 1/2 now and that will probably bring me to 400 cals already. Oh it adds up sooooooooooo quickly!

Well yestaerday the scale read 170 and I was glad but afraid to check thhis morning because I so want it to go into the 60s I am afraid I will be dissapointed. So today I am still eating at my fruit mix and probably won't eat my salad unti 2 or 3. I will probably put a little white tyrkey on it for protien. I did put tahini in my fruit bowl for the mufas. I did try some med j jill tops on today and they fit great up top a little snug around the hips though.

okay cindy, I'm not very good at explaining techo stuff but try it here from your diary and see if this is easier....just move your pointer down to anywhere in the line that's a funky color and starts with the letters "http"...the color on that text should change as soon as your pointer is on it...then just hit your left click on your mouse and you should go directly to a site which which demonstrates the particular exercise
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Triceps/DBKickback.html
It should just go to a new window and when you're done looking at it you can just close that window and return to the original screen (in this case your p.m.) by clicking on the little box with an "x" on the upper right hand side of your screen...
practice makes perfect ....if I didn't explain this well you might want to forward your pm to Nir and ask him to walk you through doing it cause he is uber techno savvy...I promise that it's really simple though after the first time you do it

It has been a few days and although I did try and post TWICE and lost both of them I ave up for a while (on posting that is). so and in any case......I did the work out posted by suenos as previously noted (thank you again for my uterly excruciatingly soar thighs that !make it difficult for me to go down the stairs 10x+ a day !)2 days ago and then yesterday di 20 min of what I think was HIIT on the rebounder. I am just comming up with a random cardio on my own as I do not want to experience anothersprained ankle! So even though my legs are killing me I will do the workout again and that will be 2 days with that for the week . Tomorow is the sabboth.
Food has been the same excpt yesterday I gave in and had 2 grilled cheese ans sour krout sandwiches in the evening. I would not even have except I was fixing hubs some dnner and it looked sooooo good so I made me 1 but #2 son said I put to much hot sauce on his and he coul not eat it so I coul not just let it waste . Oh the hurddles of a mother!( they were little sandwiches but because of being grilled and the mayo in the cheese sourriut spread I do believe they must have come to 600 cals . So that probably brought me to 2000 for the day.
Oh well that was yesterday. today was friut bowl w/ 1tbs tahini and cup of joe mixed w/ chicory and goat milk. It is fettuccini alfrado for supper toight with chicken so I will make a big salad and have the chix on top w/o the realy good stuff.
People are commenting about how I look like I am dropping again . Of cource I have scalephobia right now and I do not realy know why. I think I am afraid of giving in if I see numbers in the 60's and I amd afraid of getting discouraged if do not. So I go with the compliments and keep pluggin. I will weigh again and leasure on Sunday am.

Well this is my clean eating schedual for the week..
Breakfast: fruit bowl w/ tahini or grapefruit and egg white spinach omlett.
Lunch: large salad with either chiken or tuna or homemade cheese and sesame stix and a little dressing.
A snack in between lunch and supper can be an apple or bannana.
Supper will be kale or spinach and some type of beans, with a little olive oil and salsa.
I think if I stick with this and do the workout 3 times a week and the rebound cardio 3 times a week I shoould be able to get into the low 60's by the end of Feburary and then I will make another goal t that point.
ither tommorow or Monday morning I will post my wieght and measurmnets. I hope I am ready for them!
