No. Casper is the city I've been living in while going to school. Also where the bf resides. But I did seize the opportunity to get some strawberries while here!
Wyoming has everything! I live at the base of a mountain range, but I would say I live pretty much on the prairie. These hot days are melting snow faster than the rivers can hold it, so pray for cooler weather!

I really didn't do that well yesterday. :pizza: One thing I'm discovering. Healthy eating/working out and moving aren't a good mix. I'll get my workout today. Up and down stairs, getting everything loaded in the bed of a pickup!
I've started cleaning on my apartment. It's funny. My bathroom sink looks better than it ever did while I lived here!

The scale said 152 this morning. I'm almost afraid to trust it, but I imagine I dropped some water from ttotm. I am excited about one thing. I eeked into the "normal weight" on the BMI index. No more over weight! Yeah! Still another 12-17 pounds to lose to be at ideal weight, but it feels good not to be in that dreaded overweight category.
Can I keep it there? That's the question.

Congrats on getting to the Normal Weight category!!!!  That's got to feel good!

Good luck with the rest of the moving...I laughed at what you said about the sink.  We experience the same phenomenon with our den when we get everything picked up.  The room amazingly doubles in size.

Okay,
I don't know where to start. I've been eating terribly the past couple days. Yesterday I did clean and make hundreds of trips up and down the stairs. I have no idea how many calories I was at yesterday. Today-There was a major storm in Wyoming. And my mom and I drove right through the worst of it. They closed the roads after we started on it. I slid off the road and an 1.5 hour drive took 4 hours. Needless to say-no workout. Just grateful I'm alive!
I'll do better.

PS. MollyMoo-Thanks for the support

I am glad you and your mom made it through OK!   Well you are safely home now.  I am sure you burned off a lot of cals moving, so you probably were fine on cals, but I know it never feels too good when you eat junk.  Well, tomorrow is another day.  You have to get adjusted to being back home and try to set up a schedule that will help you achieve your goals.  And figure out ways to eat more green stuff!

i knew this was going to be a challenge-the schedule and diet moving home.

Mainly I'm just full of excuses.

I haven't seen lettuce or spinach in a while. (Actually I'm okay with that!) Very little veggies, lots of carbs.

My plan for exercise was walking, but we've had lots of rain lately. Almost daily. But I'm not going to complain because we've been in a drought situation for years.:rain: Needless to say, I haven't been walking.:umbrella: We have had too many people in the house to have any space to work out. Eight people in a small three bedroom doesn't leave much space for kickboxing or pilates.

The rain also makes for great baking weather. The neighbor brought down some delicious food last night and I didn't control myself at all. :nono: And today is my little brothers 20th birthday. :birthday_cake:

The good news is that we have been working cows. :cow: Normally I wouldn't say that burns very many calories, but if you are walking around in 6 inches of mud/slop- you get a better work out. Here is my question. If you are constantly pushing on things or having something squeeze your arm, are you burning calories? My arm feels like it is going to fall off from AI-ing ( :caution: Make sure you want to know what that is before you ask.) but I'm not sure that I'm actually burning many calories! What do you guys think?

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

ROFL.  Welcome home!

Oh wow, you do all the interesting stuff.  And here the highlight of my day so far has been going to the grocery store.  Nothing on AI in the Calories Burned Calculator I am afraid.  Its not exactly a full on cardio routine but I am sure that you were burning some extra cals doing that activity, and toning your muscles.  How many cows did you do, exactly?

Can you find space in the barn or something to do your workouts in relative space and privacy?  Of course that is, if the cows and horses don't mind.

Of course AI ing burns calories! and lots of them. Think of all the muscles in your arm and how sore they are after :-) almost as bad as preg checking eh?

cheers

MollyMoo and Hoofprints, thanks for the support. I don't preg check usually, but I have a little experience and there is no way I could do hundreds in a day! The barn/shed idea is good MollyMoo. I may have to figure out how to get the workout videos out there. We should start gathering on horseback soon. That will help!

Personally I only AI'd 23 today. We did a total of 41 today. I have someone come help me when we have more than 10. If we did this at the end of the summer I could probably do better, but going to school for nine months and jumping back in is a killer.

Birthday cake was terrible on the calories. I was doing great until that point! Oh well. I'll be headed for Cody in a couple days. Then all these home made goodies will be out of reach!

I worked on the portion control today, but not too hard. It's hard to count calories when you are unsure how many you are burning. My arm is about to fall off and I am exhausted. I'm supposed to drive to Cody tomorrow to be with my sixth graders. Hoofprints was very wise and reminded me that it is easier to lose weight when you are well rested. I'm off.

Hey, just worry about the portion control/intake and no so much about how much you are burning right now.  Anything you burn is all good if you are managing the intake.  Have a good day with the 6th graders!  :apple:

Well... I have a confession. I've been eating terribly. I don't know why I didn't see it coming. I had hoped to be able to control what I was eating more while with the sixth graders. Silly me. I wasn't thinking about how we were going to feed the sixth graders. How do you inexpensively feed 35 sixth graders you may ask? :pizza: and Pepsi. I tried a little portion control, but my soda intake has been lots and I didn't swim as much as I thought I would on Tuesday. Today was only walking around the museum. GRRRRR....

I've started drinking again. Not that I ever drink much-maybe one or two, but for months I didn't have anything. Now I'm even drinking beer and I never really liked beer.

So as Peter reminded me-baby steps. So instead of cutting out or adding in here is my idea. Just drink more water. It is going to be difficult knowing how much riding is coming up. But I need to get back to the water thing. Right now I'm just looking to one liter a day. If that is too easy, I'll move it back to two. I know it isn't much. But something is better than nothing!

Yesterday

I didn't do too bad yesterday. Portion control was decent if not exemplary. I managed to avoid the ice cream despite the cravings all day and everyone else diving in!:cone: I did well on the water too! :glass_water: I did 10 minutes on the trampoline. Something I had totally forgotten about until yesterday. I was shooting for 20 minutes, but it turns out that I was in really bad shape.

Today

I rode for 8.5 hours so far today. That helps burn calories. The problem is since I didn't eat lunch until 3:30 so I'm trying hard not to be a :pig:. Hopefully I can stick to it! The good news is that I weighed in at 150 today. I'm almost afraid to accept it. It may be a fluke! Hope not it would be great to get into the 140's.

Well so far I've avoided the ice cream. I did have a beer, but my calorie count allowed for it. That's a good feeling. Actually I have to admit that I didn't actually COUNT calories. But I ate a very moderate meal (the lunch at 3:30) and did not dig in for those dangerous seconds or dessert! I did just bake a strawberry rhubarb cobbler. I know I know, but my family will all be in for a long day tomorrow. I'll be in for the same type of day tomorrow as far as cals go, so I think I'll be good. The challenge will to be not diving in tonight! Hope everyone had a great Friday!

I am so glad that your weigh-in for the Challenge was encouraging and postive.  You are doing better apparently than you gave yourself credit for.  Sounds like you did a great job today of managing your calories in a tempting situation.  Good Show!  And oh my 8:30 riding.  I can imagine you will be sore tomorrow but what do I know?

Another 8 hour day on the horse. MollyMoo-I totally admit to a little soreness. Not eating lunch until 3:00 throws off how I think of dealing with calories. Oh well. I admit to eating some of that cobbler I made, but I think I"m okay. I should be motivating. There is so much I would like to do, but I'm exhausted. I always get these annoying dull headaches. They zap so much energy. I'm trying to stick to water for the rest of the night. Maybe that will help

I'm way under calories today. It turned into a 12 hour day. the dogs quit, the horses were tired, the cows were tired and we were too! So I didn't eat until 6:30 tonight. And I didn't eat much! It just made be feel sick. Oh well. I may eat something else tonight. Right now I'm just headed for more water!
Todays in-take

Wow, will your whole summer be like this?  What were you doing exactly?  [Remember, I've never really been on a working ranch or a farm.]

Anyway, sounds like you sure burned up wayyyy more than you took in.  Impressive!  This seems like such a radical change from the teaching.  You lead such an interesting life vgreet!

Sigh...I'm just worn out these days. I'm not readjusted yet.
No MollyMoo my whole summer won't be like this. Maybe another four or five days. But you are right it is a VERY radical change from teaching. We are just gathering up cows to brand calves and put them in new pastures. I took some pictures the other day. Just snapshots. Maybe I'll get some uploaded to show you.
I got to eat lunch! Yeah! Today was split into 3 hours of riding and 6 hours of riding with food and nap tucked in between. I may have eaten too much on the calorie scale. I didn't hold back at lunch and Mom brought pizza from town for dinner. I just realized tomorrow should be my weigh in day, but I'm not sure it will get done. Depends on what we are going to do tomorrow. My brain isn't thinking about a scale early in the morning. I need more water! It's difficult to drink much while riding. I'm probably not making sense right now. My brain isn't fully engaged. Hopefully you all won't have to endure too many of these zany entries.

Well, Vgreet, from what little I've seen of Wyoming, there's a big area to cover in rounding up those cows.    No wonder you didn't have time to come in and eat!   :chewing:

Thanks for stopping by guys. You are right-there is a little bit of area to cover, but nothing like it was in the old days.

Well, I did it again. Wednesday we were branding. I'm sure I burned plenty of calories. I actually did quite well at the actual dinner, but when we got the leftovers home I fell apart and it spilled over into Thursday, which we had off. Rice Krispie treats, cookies, brownies, chips... It was raining outside so a picked up a book and some junk food and went to town. GRRRR... I could probably be losing some weight if I had self control around that junk my dad and brothers insist on keeping in the house. Not that I don't like to bake. But I can usually control myself around that. It was a revelation though. My mom said something and once I realized it, it was a little easier to stay away from the junk. We eat in self-defense around this house! That may sound crazy, but if you want a piece of pie or a cookie or ice cream, don't wait. You'll miss out! Which is a bummer. But if I don't take that self-defense piece, it will all be gone and I don't have to worry about pigging out and adding all those extra cals. So when I'm working I do fairly well, but on the days off/down time... I'm going to need to try harder. I think I need a good reason-like remembering I'll be starting at a new school in the fall. Maybe I just need to get those 10's to fit a little looser. HMMM....

I really enjoy these photos vgreet.  I was so surprised to learn that you are a photographer too.  They are all good, but my favorite are I think is the 2 men (your dad & brother by any chance?) framed by the fence; the long rows of hay(?) cut and drying; and the single man who seems to big fixing the fence in the foreground with the rolling hills leading away away away.  Very very pretty.

What is the one where it is down the steps to a dug-out square with all the square boxes or something....it looks like a cemetery.

Wow, it must be sooooo hard to eat healthy in that environment with all the baked goods.  However you are burning cals like mad so it wouldn't surprise me if you you are  losing.

Have a good night!

Thanks MollyMoo! Actually its my grandfather and brother and that is an old foundation at an old power plant. Glad you enjoyed the photos! It's a challenge to find time for those.

Today I just focused on portion control. I don't know what else to do. I did have a little ice cream and a half-sized margarita. But avoided the pepsi, giant donuts and cupcakes at the neighbors. Even got some fruit in the diet today! Dad and brothers cleaned out most of the junk food, so I didn't get too much to day! A couple hours of horseback riding. Not too much in the way of workout other than that.

So I forgot to weigh in yesterday and today. :dizzy: I don't know what my problem is. Scatterbrained.
Yesterday I did some walking. Not as much as I would have liked. We went up the mountain to fix fence, but there was snow on the fence, so we did little work-which means little workout. I was doing really well on calories until we got home. It was stormy and I decided to make my dad his favorite cookie. Have you all seen that special K commercial about licking the bowl? Yeah... Other than that I think I did okay. Wish I'd remembered to jump on the scale before breakfast. Hopefully tomorrow... I need to adjust that goal of mine too! :nono: sigh. I'm going to have to work much harder.

My brother on the first snowdrift we encountered:

Thanks for stopping by everyone!

So I did jump on the scale today. I gained weight. 151.5. I'm hoping TTOTM is adding to everything. But severely depressing. I've been working much harder the past couple days. Eating salads when everyone else is into the potato chips. Passing on MOST of the ice cream and baked goods. Drinking more water than I usually would this time of year. Especially with our unseasonably chilly weather. I adjusted my goal in the challenge. I just want to get in the 140's!!!!! I think I can. I think I can.

I think I did pretty well today. Somewhere around 1300-1400 cals. Trying to guesstimate. No excercise though. I don't think it even made it to 60 today. Plus it was windy and not even remotely welcoming outside. Had a super small piece of pie instead of the huge one I was craving all day. Doing great as far as avoiding Pepsi. I'm glad for that. Lots of computer work. Still should be negative as far as the calories go. I just need to stick to water for the rest of the evening. :glass_water:

Thanks Scoobs. Love the butterflys! Always nice to hear feedback!

After reading Morgua's diary, I was reminded that it's inches that matter. So I decided to do some measurements. My measurements in February probably weren't that accurate, but this is what I had:
waist-35.5
thigh-24.5
hips--39.5
bust--36.5
Today-Actual measuring tape so they should be accurate.
Thigh-20.5
Bust-36.5
Waist-35.5
Hips-38

Some of those measurements look better than others. And I guarantee that the bust isn't the same size as it was! Not a single bra I have fits right any more!
So far today I'm at 446 IN. Best I've done yet this summer. I'm hoping to keep it up. I guess its time to go mow some lawn. and make some money!

Right now I'm sitting at 820 cals! That is a record since the summer began. I'm going to go have some juice, so I'll be up to 950ish. Still good! Not much exercise, but tomorrow will get lots. I'm wondering if my water here may not be contributing to the plateau. Is it possible? I don't know, but our water is well water with a fair amount of sodium in it. Mostly it's probably just that I've been eating junk. More junk arrived today. Double Stuffed oreos and various other sugary items. Hopefully my current resolve will hold.
Good night everyone!

MollyMoo-You are really sweet, but you rock at losing weight and sticking to it!

:caution:WARNING-WHINING TO FOLLOW:caution:

Okay- 12 hour day today. I'm exhausted. I feel sick, my head hurts and I got kicked in the knee and that hurts. My horse went lame and then she ran away. Another long day tomorrow to proceed my two days of interviews. I'd planned to pack tonight, but I'm beat.

I did my best at the branding. There's always a ton of food. I had a cookie at snack break, but other than that no pop, no dessert, and reasonable portions. It was good that way today.

If I wake up I'll come back and add more. Otherwise I'll be back tomorrow!

Hiya vgreet, how's it going over there?  Yep you sounded pretty beat in your last post.  It has to be so hard to go back to all this physical activity, my hat's off to ya.  You must be burning 1000 calories per day.  Catch us up when you can....and I am hoping that you've managed to find some veggies some way.

Hey everyone! I'm back. Two interviews in two days. 740 miles. And no closer to knowing where I'm going to end up.

The bad news-Travelling= bad food.

The good news- My bf's scale said 147! Is it possible? I need to check that against my scale and see what's up. I would be soooo excited if that were the case. That means I will 2 pounds short of my initial long term goal. Then I'll need to take stock and see if I should shoot for 135 or not. I'm not sure I'm really a 135 person. I'm by no means petite. Oh well. Tomorrow will tell!

Hey,
I'm back to fess up! Ugh. I hit 147 this week! I'm so excited to be in the 140's! You know how I celebrated? Cookies and chips! DUH! I'm so silly. Why is food such a celebratory thing? Long day riding this morning. Did that make since? 5 AM-Noon. and that's when the cookies, candy, chips came in. I've got a million excuses, but that's all they are, excuses. I guess that's it for now. I've been trying to keep up on the blog. Then I can't think of things to type here!

Another fairly high calorie day for me! UGH. I didn't do a lot of physical activity either! Why oh why? I had a Pepsi for no reason today, although the dogs did me a favor and spilled some of it for me. :dizzy: Sometimes blessings are well disguised. We had some out of state relatives that came by today. When my grandmother was alive she always took care of those family get togethers. She kept brownies in the freezer and there was always something for little ones today. So I hurriedly threw together a strawberry-rhubarb cobble and got over there. So I know you are thinking that I :pig:ed out and ate the cobbler. Wrong. I did have a tiny bit, but really I barely had any. No, it was the left over pie crust I got into and was totally chowing down on! AGGGHHH!

Our steers weren't weighing quite what we thought they should. I was contemplating how to get those critters to gain! I had to laugh at the irony of it all!

 I don't know MollyMoo, but the steers did get some fresh hay. Hope they're happy!

Yesterday we put in another dam. It doesn't involve swimming, but I spent an hour or two in the water. While it wasn't cold it was cool. I came home starving and snacking. What is it about the water that does that to a person? Anyway. I'm sure I blew calories there. I have started irrigating though, so I'm getting up upper workout. that's a plus.

Well I'm sorry to say that the scale has ticked back up 149 was the weigh in number for this morning. I wish I were as dedicated as many of the people on cph. I rechecked my RMR today. I'm kind of guessing 2000ish since not doing too much physical work right now. Mostly just doing the whole shoveling/pitchfork thing. Time to start counting calories again. It just turns into a tricky thing when I'm not cooking and trying to figure out what someone else has put in there. If I were smart I would set another goal, but I'm trying to figure out how much to shoot for. CPH says weight should be 135. I was there as a sophomore in high school! I may settle for 140. I'm completely comfortable in a size 10. Those 8's are fun, but I'm not sure I can maintain at that weight. Sorry for the rambling. I'm just thinking.

Hey vgreet,

Well I consider that you are fighting an uphill battle every day without the healthiest food options surrounding you.  It IS hard to estimate when someone else is cooking, that is one reason we stopping eating out often.  Anyway if you are comfortable at 140 then you should listen to that.  CPH is still only a calculator and doesn't take into account things like bone structure, or natural curves....listen to yourself and be happy!

Thanks MollyMoo I appreciate everything you write.

I got some workout today which was good considering an off day yesterday. I'm tempted to have an extra beer today. I got a job at the school I wanted. It isn't the grade level I wanted, but hopefully I can move with some in school transfers. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Congratulations on getting that job!!!  Hey that's great and its a good foot in the door.  What grade will you be teaching, and what did you want?  In any event it is awesome, you must be so happy to have that certainty!   Yay!  What town/city will you be in?  You logged so many miles with the interviews and such, just wondering how far you will be from 'home'.  And whether you'll be any closer to a 'real' grocery store.  And....when do you start?    Cheers!!

MollyMoo and Jamster- Thank you for your support. This will be in Kaycee, Wyoming. It's a great location. There is a grocery store there and it is about an hour from two larger towns, including Casper. I'm pretty excited. Headed to pick out the teacher housing. So nice not to have to worry about finding a place to live!
So... As far as food. It is so hard for me to estimate these days. I am simply watching a little more what I eat. Ice cream has crept back into my diet, but I'm keeping Pepsi out. Single servings as much as possible. Because I'm not sure how many calories I'm burning I do fudge a lot. But I have set a decent goal though. 140 by the time school starts. August 15! I can do it!
I hope CPH lasts that long. I was trying to mess around with Livestrong. UGH. I love CPH.

No kidding.  It will be a dark day in my life when they pull the plug on CPH.  Read the posts under General Discussions in the topic about Stepping on Toes.  For now, I am mostly an ostrich, pretending that its not going to happen.
