Can start walking again also.  Yep, I am going to do it.  Wish me luck.

Good Morning

Total calories for yesterday was 1652 better than the day before.

Yesterday I trimmed all the trees, at least as high up as I could reach.  I want the trees to grow tall and not so bushy.  So think that was pretty good exercise.

Rainy day today.  so those days are always a challenge for me.  Summer is going by so quickly.

I joined the July, August challenge, didn't notice until yesterday that Nir had started one or I would have joined before.

Not much happening here so far today and that is a good thing.

Calorie count for yesterday was 1895...too high

Went to doc today about changing my Insulin dosage and hey I have to smarten up fast she wants me to start Insulin injections 5 times per day.  And here she had promised me to start on a new regime of twice a day.

Anyhow now I am going to see a diabetes educator and see what we can come up with.  The doc was too busy to figure out a dosage !!!!

I guess if I have to inject 5 times per day I will do it, have gone over all my records for the last several years.  And a note I noticed a lot was "Ate too much"

So I guess the upshot is "Less Food and/or more INsulin several times a day or every single time I eat.

Well better go for a walk and think this all over.

Hello

Calorie count for yesterday was 1700 and then I had a low in the night and ate a snack because I had to.

Been a good day today.  Weather is beautiful.  Everything growing well.  Should have a good crop this fall.  That should make our renter happy, as well as us.

Not much new...just keepin on, keepin on, one day at a time.

Hello Diary and others

Weigh in for the challenge at 184.4

Doing better back to my 30 minute work outs plus fairly active with yard work and work is also a fair amount of walking.

Still having trouble with sugars they are all over the place from  4 to 16, hoping they settle down soon.  Balance is the key...excercise and food and  Insulin...touble is their are so many variants in a day.  Uses up so much of my time testing etc that I don't have much time left for worrying about weight loss, have been keeping track of calories and they are averaging around 1700 to 1800 a day.  Keeping it at that for now.

Well enough about me, how are you all doing?

Good luck to all fellow weight loss friends.

Good Morning:

Weight this morning 182.8

Yaaa I am going the right way, now if it will just hold until Monday weigh in for the challenge.

Have gone for a walk this morning outside in the fresh air.  Sugar control is a bit better.  I have been trying to eat   lighter at noon (which is usually my main meal) but sugars are high in the afternoon so perhaps that will help.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

So on with the active life style, which means sitting at the computer less.

Good Morning:

Lovely day and I have done my walk already.  I think I should have named this journal Diabetes Day by Day,  because that is what is on my mind 24 hours a day.

Ate a lighter lunch yesterday, hoping that would bring my afternoon sugars down.  Didn't happen in fact they went up ???  What to do??  No phone call from diabetes educator yet!!  She must be on vacation as it is a week since the doc said she would arrange an appointment.  Guess I will have to phone myself in case the requisition got lost or something.

Oh well, on with the show on the up side sugar was 6.0 this a.m.  Yes!!!

Hello Diary and others

Well I am proud of myself, yeterday sugars were all below 8.

Weight still the same.  Hope for a loss by Monday.  Weekends are always hard.

Have been eating lots of fresh veggies from the garden, they are sooo good.

Made my own appointment with diabetes educator, but it is still 2 weeks away.  If I keep this up may not need to change at all.

Heres hoping and keeping my fingers crossed.

Remember an apple a day is a good thing.:apple:

Hello diary and all:

Weighing in today at 183.2

I am happy with that.  My sugars are good, a little on the low side.  Just goes to show what really paying attention can do.  I find that frequent testing is also an incentive not to eat more than you should.

All is well here. I wish the same for all of you.

Hi Molly

Thanks for dropping by,  I am keeping an eye on your progress also. It is fantastic.

Weighed in this morning at 182.8 so have made my goal for the summer slim if I can just hold on to it.

Still walking some but with the garden, work and summer visitors am meeting myself coming and going most days.  Will have more time for the boards come winter.  Not that I am looking forward to winter...but one nice thing about it there is no grass to cut.

Take care everyone and good luck with your weight control efforts.  We are all winning bit by bit.

Good Morning Diary and all

Well today I see the diabetes educator, am a little apprehensive about it.  Cause if they want to change things it involves a lot of testing etc.

Had a low in the night again last night...which is good because half the time I don't think they believe me but have several documented now.

oh well, more about this tomorrow when I have all the facts.

Hey, it is great to see my name in the red for the summer challenge. I did not make a big commitment just 2 lbs but feels so good to be successful at what I set out to do.

Have a great day, because we will not come this way again.  Each day is new and we can make of it what we will.  May yours be happy, contented and full of success.

Hello Diary and readers

My appointment went really well yesterday,  her only recommendation was to increase my morning Insulin and suggested I keep those glucose candies that you buy at the drug store beside my bed and when waking up with a low to quickly take 2 or 3 of them.  Now why didn't I think of that.  I used to keep juice close by which would work just as well.

I also got instructions on how to use an Insulin Pen,  haven't tried it yet but will.

Not one mention of exercising more or diet control or any of that stuff.

So on with the show.  Raining here today, and don't have to go into work so think I will take the day to relax and get caught up on some household chores.

All the best to all of you who read.  Congrats to those who have lost on the summer slim, I see a lot of you have met your goals already and then some.  Yaaaaaa

Hello Diary and readers

Not much new happening around here.  Have been watching the hummingbirds they are so hungry I think they will be flying south again soon.  Usually they leave in a big wind.  I don't blame them that's a long way to go and a good tail wind would sure help.

Have been keeping good track of what I eat,  my blood sugars and I won't bore you all with it.  Except I am doing very well and am proud of myself. I have so much more energy and so I must go put it to good use.

Garden vegetables need picking and pickling or freezing or something done with them so we have good eating come that long cold winter...lol...I wonder how many calories one burns picking cucumbers.  Lots of bending anyway!!

And those fresh cucumbers are so good and low cal too.  I am a happy camper.

Make it a great day for yourselves.

Hello Diary and Readers

I am still a Happy Camper, weighed in yesterday at 182 so have lost 3 lbs since this challenge started.  Not a lot but I am OK with it.  Slow and steady suits me fine.

I am still busy as a beaver,  I love it and having some energy is great.  I find myself up and working and not even thinking OH my I better get this or that done and forcing myself.

I feel so good I am afraid it may not last...is that crazy thinking or what.  But I have failed so many times in the past.

Very hot though and maybe not a good idea to be exercising in that heat.  I do my gardening etc early in the morning and then can enjoy my afternoons in the cool.

Still working at the Antique shop part time.

All the best to all of you as we continue to battle this thing called extra weight, we are striving for a healthier life style.  If we slip we just have to pick ourselves up and go on as though nothing happened.  This was a good lesson for me.  Instead of beating myself up.

Hello Diary and anyone who reads.

Today we had fresh corn from the garden,  I know, I know, dangerous stuff.  It is a veggie though and it was soooooo good and yes, I had butter.  Didn't even feel guilty because I allowed myself this pleasure.  Funny thing I ate one cob and felt full.  And I had  planned on having two.

Just a small little victory to report.  Maybe I am learning to eat more normally.  I know I feel better and am more happy as a general rule.

So along with picking corn, digging potatoes and vacuuming the house am calling that my work out for today.

Weighing in at 182 this morning.  Yes!!! down a little bit again.

Busy day coming up ...so til next thyme

Lets keep up the healthy eating and our weight will go down or stay steady.  Living will be more pleasant when eating is not the main focus.  If the job is to be done we have to do it ourselves, no one else can.  So lets accept responsibility and step up to the plate.

First of September, my how fast it came.  Weigh in this morning at 180.8 still creeping down little by little.  Yes !!  I can live with that..lol..

During the summer I have kind of fell down on regular walking and work outs,  seemed too much yard work etc to do.  Which is also exercise but am going to try and get more walking in this month.  I do so enjoy just walking along and not thinking about anything in particular.  Perhaps give thanks and make plans.  There was a time when I would use my walks to let go of frustration.  You know kick a stone, this is for you and this is for you.  Ahh so glad my walks are more peaceful these days.  But if a walk helps with frustration, sadness, happiness whatever, lets go for it.  Walking is my plan for September.

Good Morning and Welcome:

My workout for today was l hour working in the garden,  picking and digging and then a short walk down our country road.

The weight crept up a tad this morning.   Yikes, can't have that.  Have to lose by Monday weigh in for the challenge.

Darn those portion sizes, I think I am letting them creep up again.  Have been really hitting the veggies (the fresh ones are so good)  but perhaps things like squash and corn which call for butter!!! I better limit it some.

That's it for now.

Weighing in this morning at 180 getting close to the 170's wonder if I can make it by next week??  We shall see.

Still busy as a bee, things going well.  Have ordered a new Leslie Sansone tape for when the weather is bad.  I have some but a new one is always nice.  My little reward for myself.

Well must run, a busy day ahead.

Weighing in this week at 180

I was so hoping to get into the 170's but the snail stopped, won't go, no matter what I do.

I am holding steady and that is a good thing.

Good luck to all of you as we continue this healthy life style.

Continue to exercise and eat less and eventually it has to go, it is the law of physics (or so they say)  sometimes I wonder.

Well I have potatoes to dig and other garden stuff to bring in before Mr. Jack Frost comes to visit.

Hi there everyone

Still weigh 180

Haven't written in my diary for 10 days.  I have been busy and I think the harvest is finished and the garden all in.  Now I can concentrate on me again.  At least I hope so.  Never did stray too far off my plans of eating more veggies,  less red meat and no processed meat.  Sometimes for the sake of speed would eat the wrong thing or too much.

One does not loose that way although I am glad I did not gain.

Today I started making a long term plan for the coming months.  It has to be tailor made for me and not a carbon copy diet on the net or in some book.

So far I have walked 30 minutes the last 2 days,  have put a pair of jeans I want to get into in a prominent place so I can try them on every day.

Have stocked my cupboard and freezer with healthy food.  I am on my way again.  One day at a time and sometimes one hour or one minute at a time.

Off to read some diaries and see how you guys are all doing.

Good Morning Diary and others:

I am not doing so good can not get off 180  lbs.

Have been walking and eating healthy on my diabetic meal plan most of the time!!  Guess I have to do something different.

But what !! or just be happy at 180 lbs. going to ponder this thought and hopefully can get things going again.  Perhaps make a list of pro's and con's of trying to loose weight.

Oh well, won't bore you any longer, have things to do and places to go whether I am  fat or thin life goes on.

I have been at this crossroad before and always the scale gets stuck around here.

Good Morning:

Still stuck at 180 lbs.

Not sure what to do,  have been walking every day and eating healthy and I refuse to go on a really low calorie diet for fear of starting the yo yo thing again.

So guess I will hang tough and hope for the best.  On the up side my last A1C was 6.8 and cholesterol was awesome my doc says.

So on with the show,  wish me better luck next week.  Don't think I will meet my challenge at this rate by the end of October.  But haven't given up yet!!!  Will keep plugging along at least I am not gaining.

Hi Diary and others:

Finally down to 179.6

Slow, slow, slowly creeping down.

Perhaps I should write here more.  will try and do that more often.

I have walked every day in October and the one day I missed I walked double the next day.  Perhaps that helped with the small downward on the scale.  Keeping my fingers crossed that the downward trend is starting again.

Have a great day  and God Bless.

Hi

Well I walked every day this week also, didn't help.  Starting to get discouraged will report weigh in tomorrow morning. 179.6  So far still the same as last week.   Feeling awfully tired and I don't like that.

So I need to get with the program better or something.  Blood sugars good so it's not that.  Anyway taking today to rest and re-group.

Guess I just needed a good rest,  feeling so much better today.

Have done a 30 minute workout this morning and also started Tai Chi.

So on with the battle of the bulge.  Thinking about journaling what I eat again.  It is not quite so busy now and perhaps more time for that.

Although my food plan is pretty consistant and I vary very little.  Do sometimes have a tendency to overdo the starches, as I am a bread lover.

Good Morning Diary and others:

Off to a good start today with a 30 minute workout.  A good breakfast and am going to try and work on one small thing per week.  This week cut some fat from breakfast.  Have to catch my toast before my husband butters it for me. A sweet thing he does and he tries to remember less butter...lol.. but what is less to him is too much for me.  Also going to cook my egg with less fat and have oatmeal every other day.  Finished the fall challenge at 179.

Have been loosing on the average about 1/4 lb. per week.  Very slow but OK by me, better than gaining and loosing etc.

So pledge on the holiday challenge of only loosing 1.5 lbs.

Hello Diary and others

Still doing my workouts daily.  Now have some health issues to deal with, trying not to let them weaken my resolve to eat healthy.  It is so tempting to overeat and then go to sleep and forget all about it.  But worry is like a rocking chair keeps you busy but doesn't get you anywhere.

So until these health issues are resolved one way or the other the best thing to do is keep my body in the best shape possible, in case surgery will be involved.

Haven't got around to having oatmeal for breakfast yet!!!  Old habits die hard.  Still having egg, toast, juice and an orange most days.  It works so have been having oatmeal for an evening snack.

Ah me,  on with the daily activities.  Have done my work out.  Now to do some tidying up around here.

Work out done this morning.  Have started my Christmas Decorating, like to do it slowly a little at a time and by Christmas it is a glorious sight..lol.

Well I am going to have surgery, don't know the date yet!!  I am trying not to worry until then.  Hopefully it will be before Christmas.

Will weigh in on Wednesday for the challenge...still holding my own, which I guess is better than up, down, up down.

My glucose tests  are good.

Busy doing some last minute canning and freezing from the garden.  Mostly carrots and squash...just can't get them all eaten fresh.  Baking squash for lunch, Yummmmmm

Feeling much more optimistic this morning.  Work out done to African Dance Music.

Weight still the same as last week.  I am below 180 and as long as I stay there I am happy.  Course would like to go down more.  Slow and steady.

Plan no major changes this week.  Just keeping on with what I am doing.  Rarely binge anymore and when I do it is usually from boredom.  So have Christmas Crafts and sewing on the go.  Also have a quilt to hand quilt.  Just keep those hands busy and out of the cookie jar.  Also knit during the commercials when watching TV.  Would rather eat...lol..  Also set up a 1000 piece puzzle (but I am not much good at puzzles)

I live in the land of ice and snow so have to have lots of things to do for the long winter evenings.

Hi there

Weight down to 176.4

Finally getting off that plateau, I have been on for so long.

Doing as much exercise etc. as I can fit in.  Eating much less, as not working so hard.  So maybe less food is the answer, not more exercise.  Have to find a balance between the two.

All is well.  Life is good.  I wish the same for all who read my diary.

Lovely day, cold and crisp and I love the crunch as I walk in the snow.  No change in my weight from last week still 176.4

Have been busy preparing for Christmas,  decorating the house and doing some baking, trying to make things that are less calories.  You know like whole wheat biscuits instead of shortbread.

Actually it is a nice change, everyone serves cookies and a whole wheat biscuit with cheese is a treat.

Keeping lots of veggies and fruit on hand.  Love the oranges this time of year.  Turkey is low cal..hey it can be done.

Still have some shopping to do.  Lots to keep me busy so best get at it.

Dear Diary:

I notice as I read some of the diaries that a lot of us are sort of coasting till the New Year,  it is a busy time and temptation is everywhere  BUT we do not want to stand on the scale January 1 with a gain.  At least I do not.

So moderation is the key, and it is not a time to try and loose weight,  just hold the line.

I have been unable to exercise for about 3 weeks, but feel strong enough now to begin so did a 2 minute Leslie Sansone desk side..WOW..on my way again.  I will find that and post it here for others to try.

Very cold here, so on with some inside activities.  Eating an apple while looking out at the snow sounds like fun  :apple: or a Christmas Orange...love those.

The smell of spruce and oranges always means Christmas to me.  I put up an artificial tree but pick spruce boughs for that fresh scent.  Better than air fresheners and I just go out and pick some.  Ah, the pleasure of little things.

Dear Diary:

One week until Christmas!!  Am I ready!  No,  we have been in a deep freeze for several days and waiting for a warming trend to finish shopping.

Holding my own weight wise,  hope to keep it that way over the holiday season.  Most years I allow myself a 5 lb gain...but not this year.  We shall see how I do.

Got into the mince tarts one day but they gave me a tummy ache, so don't think I will do that again.  Healthy eating has become a habit and so whatever treats I have cannot overdo it,  moderation is the key.

Good Morning:

Dear Diary

Did you all have a Merry and Happy Christmas?  It is always over so quickly.  We had a good celebration and the best present was I lost l lb.  So weighing 175.4

Not sure how that happened, unless it was all the extra work of getting ready.  Anyhow with me Christmas is not usually the problem its the following days when the left overs are so tempting.  No to mention all the boxes of chocolate my husband received as gifts.  He has a very sweet tooth..lol.

Now me being a diabetic it is one of my biggest challenges but one I cannot change so most learn to deal with.

To all of you who read this:

May the excitement and joy of the season bring a special warmth to your heart.

Have done 15 minutes of exercise this morning so that's a start.

Good Morning:

Dear Diary:

Things going well so far this morning.  Did l mile walk with Leslie Sansone,  found a place for some of the new gifts.  Got a new teapot with matcing mugs just great for our  green tea for breakfast.

Will be having some grandchildren visit later today.  Still have lots of treats for them, hope they eat them all up.  Granny will worry about their health another day..lol.  Besides that's not our job..lol.

Famous lines of some of the grandkids is "Well, Grandpa,  Where is the Candy" and he always has a secret stash!!!

Now I give them real food, and take them for walks in the snow, it is so beautiful in the country.  So, I think it is a good combination.

On with my day.

Hi Maggie.  I love Leslie Sansone too.  When I first started exercising, I would pant and sweat through her DVD's.  Now, I can do an hour with her in the latest DVD I got, the 5 mile fat burn.  I love that she has so much variety for each person's fitness level and time available.

I also have diabetes, though oral medication rather than insulin dependent.  I know how hard it is to manage the glucose levels, get the exercise in there, and still lose weight.  Congrats to you for making it happen!

Good Morning

Dear Diary:

Not doing so well today,  it is cloudy and overcast and I have eaten probably 1000 calories and it is just 10:00 a.m.  Oh my!!

Smarten up Maggie!!!

Thanks MJ36 for stopping by,  I was reading your diary and you have done very well,  you eat a lot more protein for breakfast than I do..does it really help?  My breakfast is always the same whole wheat toast, egg, cranberry juice and an orange.

Well off to do an exercise tape...try to minimize the damage from those peanuts and chocolate I ate this morning.  Now why did I do that?  I practically never overeat in the morning so maybe my body was craving something.  Anyhow that coffee, chocolate and peanuts were soooooooooo good.  But enough now.  Yes, enough now.

It really does help me to eat more protein in the morning.  I have diabetes and it helps me to stabilize my blood sugars.  I find that it fights off hunger more too.  I try to be careful about the fat in the proteins I choose though, which is hard.  I use egg beaters mixed with regular eggs, chicken or turkey sausage, etc. mixed with regular fat items that I cannot tolerate the LF version of (like bacon).

Did you get to exercise to balance out the chocolate?  My problem is, once i have ONE bite of something sweet, I want it nonstop... evil chocolate...

Hi Diary and others

Thanks again mj for stopping by.  I did do some extra exercise but have to admire all the running you do.  Bravo.  Do you make your own bread?  I notice you mention it in your diary.  I do that sometimes also.  I just like it too well, especially when fresh from the oven.

Doing great so far today.  Did my exercises and workout, slowly getting back into it.

Made a pot of vegetable soup for supper and had 1/2 cup for my afternoon lunch.

They have a lot of Leslie Sansone and other exercise video's right on the web.  Like that as I can exercise anytime and leave the TV for my hubby.

Yeah, I got a breadmaker for Christmas... a good and bad idea all rolled up in one.  I have a teenage son (almost 15) who is about 5'7" and weighs maybe 120.  He runs, lifts weights, plays several sports, and spends ALL of his free time at the gym.  He loves homemade bread, so I thought, what a great gift to ask for... but then there's me, 5'7", 179 lbs... also loving bread... not playing sports... you get the picture!  I am thinking that the next time I fire it up, I will immediately slice the bread and freeze it 2 slices each per baggie, with the exception of a few slices for him to have right away.  I do that with cookies and brownies too, to help me avoid scarfing them down.  I have been known to eat a frozen cookie, but I doubt I would eat frozen bread hahahaha!

I've never searched the web for Leslie videos, I always just bought them.  What sites are good to find some? Maybe there are some I haven't tried yet!  I have a very short attention span, so I am always looking for something new.

Hi Diary and readers;

Oh yes,  frozen cookies are good but they are a no no.  Freezing sliced bread wouldn't help me...I would just toast it...

Sorry for giving you the idea

Well, I have to smarten up.  Blood sugar 14.5 this afternoon.  That cannot continue weather I loose weight or not have to get it back under control.  Had a New Years Celebration and some really good salads were brought, lots of veggies.  I ate some but I am thinking they had lots of sugar in them,  when I make salads I use Splenda.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.  I did end the year weighing less than last year,  not sure how much, doesn't really matter it was less.  I still have a long way to go.

So on with 2009,

Did walk outside today and am hoping it brought my sugars down.  Will test shortly and see.

Happy New Year Everyone

Good Morning Diary and Others

Not sure what I want to write here today.  Beginning to think this is a waste of time.

I have been journaling for the last 4 days and realize I am eating way too much fat or margarine specifically.  So have measured out 4 tsp. for the day was surprised that is quite a bit when put in one small container.  See if it will help me control it.

Slow and steady is my plan.  Very simple plan for 2009.

1.  Keep to my diabetic meal plan,it is about 1600 to 1800 calories

2.  Exercise 20 to 30 minutes daily.  Better to do 20 minutes every day than to do l hour today and then none for several days.  Anyone can find 20 minutes even if all you do is dance around the kitchen or office.

3.  Drink more water and green and herbal teas.

4.  Enjoy life and the people I come into contact with.

 5.   Make sure I eat at least 6 servings of fruit and vegetables daily.

Ok, Maggie there it is in writing pure and simple...now  get off your butt and do it.

That's a good idea to measure out the butter.  I use brummel and brown or I can't believe it's not butter light, about 45-50 cals per tbsp, and I have really learned to like them... maybe not as much as butter, but they do the trick!  Don't get frustrated, just keep making little changes.  I can't make that scale move after several days, but I know if I keep working out and trying to make changes, I'll win over that scale eventually hehe~

Good Sunday Morning one and all

Dear Diary

Been sticking to my plan pretty well, even when I have been away for several days.  No change in the scale and that is a good thing, I thought it might go up.

Hey mj!  What is brummel and brown?  I find that a lot of the time I don't even finish the 4 tsp. of margarine that I measure out,  may be substituting peanut butter or small bit of jam.  Not sure if that is a good thing or not.  It certainly makes me more aware of how much fat I am consuming.  Have to watch the sugar though.  So glad the holidays are over and little bits of this and that are not being offered all the time.

Eating healthy for life is my plan.  Seem to be getting the hang of it now.  It is over a year since joining this site and the weight loss challenges.  They are a big help by making one accountable.

So slow and steady, first time in my life I have gone a year without gaining!!  That is progress.  Sure the scale will vary 2 or 3 lbs but every once in awhile it lets go of the higher number and a lower one appears.  Downward  we go a little bit at a time.

Brummel and brown is a yogurt based spread that I really like, a low cal substitute for margarine.  I remember when I first started on my diet, I measured everything to figure out portion sizes.  I was so stunned to figure out how much a serving of butter was, and how many calories were in it.  YIKES!

Good Morning

My goodness the 12 th of January allready.   So far this year I think l lb is gone.   Now starting today going to get really serious about this.  Work out done this morning, beds made, house tidied and ready to do some sewing.  January is the one month of the year I have some time to concentrate on me.  So I am going to do that.    This is the quiet time down on the farm.

Could opt for baking but then I would eat it.  May make a batch of bread, then I know what is in it!!!

Now what should I sew perhaps start a quilt or something quick like aprons,

Thanks MJ, will look for brummel and brown, but it may not be in Canada, as I have never heard of it

Lots of snow and the most company I have is chick a dees...love them...never tire of watching them at the feeder.  We had a very busy holiday season with lots of company and get togethers.

Ahhh, the little things!  One lb gone is a good start.  Better than 1 lb gained, or worse.  Like you said, January is a time when you can concentrate on yourself, so I am sure you will use the month to get yourself into some good habits!
