Hi there,

My name is Ella, my weight loss journey began some year ago back in november 2005. I had surgery to remove a cyst the size of a watermelon that weighed 11 pounds! The day of the surgery I was 243 pounds. Since then I have dropped down to 202, and now I'm back up to 217. I am a member at a gym, but have not been able to go in the last few months, and have been eating really unhealthy.

However, Monday, which is tomorrow, I plan to restart my journey in hopes to being 160 by June. For my prom. Wooo. I'll be posting daily food, weight and exercise logs on this page so stay tunned.

I've been reading alot of the posts here, and I can say that I'm really glad I found you guys and I'm excited to seeing results again! Along with yours!

Hiya guys,

Today started out okay...

1 banana = 105 calories
1 bagel = 300 calories
3 tbs of crouton spread = 115 calories
1 yogurt = 100 calories

and then it went downhill

1 piece of chocolate cake = 400 calories
3 cups of vanilla ice cream = 840 calories
Lays chips = 230 calories
2 cokes (I usually only drink diet, but there were regular in the fridge) = 210 calories

= 2300 intake

Exercise  30 minute walk/ but I might do some more later if I find time between studying.
= 175 calories

CW: 216

Booo today sucked. I can't wait till exams are over so that I can hit the gym! Only two more to goooooooooo. Also, what do you guys recommend that my daily calorie intake be? I'm 17, 5'6 216 pounds. I was thinking like 1800?

1800: that's ideal, so long as you are sedentary. (incidentally don't take it below 1782 - that's your unadjusted RMR.) When you start regular exercise it will make sense to up it a bit [e.g. if you end up exercising 3-5 times a week, to 2348]

I'm down to one exam left to do! Wohhoo Physics is tomorrow. I asked my friend if she wanted to join the gym with me, I'm already a member but I know it's better motivation to see a friend beside you. And since we have two spares after lunch, we're gonna go then so it doesn't interfere with work and whatnot.

 smoothie (1 banana = 105; 1 1/2 cups of 2% milk = 183; 1 yogurt = 100; couple grapes = 25) =  413 calories
3 chicken strips and fries = 878 calories
2 chocolate thin mint thingies = 60 calories
Salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, and 1 ounce of cheese and 2tbs of salad dressing = 300 calories

Water: 64 ounces

Intake = 1651 calories

Exercise = 1 hour walking 266 calories

Weight: 214.6 pounds

Apple = 85 calories
40 grapes = 85 calories
1 1/2 cup of shelled peanuts = 350 calories
Yogurt bar = 150 calories

My sister, who just had the baby, she and her boyfriend aka the baby's dad, they just broke up. So it's been hard on her. I spent Thursday and today with her at her place helping her pack up so she can move out. So she's staying with us at home until she can find a place for her and her little baby. I don't really mind having them both here. Since I'm going away to University next year I'm glad to spend as much quality time with my new born Nephew and my sister. Hurray!

Friday I had one of those sausage English muffins from a coffee place...I don't know how many calories it has but let's just round it to like 500 to be safe.
1 coffee with cream and sugar : 70 calories
1 tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread : 430 calories
1 apple: 85 calories
2 pieces of pizza:  780 calories
1 coke: 105 calories

Intake: 1970 boo!

Exercise: Nada. However I did carry my nephew around in carrier all day while we were walking in the mall and whatnot. And I did about 10 trips up and down the flights of stairs to my sisters apartment. Heh.

Ohhh and I died my hair redness! It's naturally brown with a little bit of red in it, but now it's like dark cherry red, it's pretty

Weight: Didn't have a chance to weigh myself this morning as I was at my sisters place, will tomorrow morning though.

Yesterday I went to work with an apple and a bagel in me, I thought I was doing really well....

Then I got a little surprise at work and my friend Miriam came down from North Bay (which is 6 hours away) and I hadn't seen her in about 8 months. So Miriam her boyfriend, Amina another one of my friends and I all went o Harveys. Now I didn't have  a bad choice....I took the grilled chicken sandwich combo, but I didn't put any condiments on it at all. However I did have the fries with some ketchup, and a diet coke.

Then when I got home mom made smoke meat sandwiches mmm and we had some chocolate milk after wards, I think I drank like 1 1/2 cups, so that was like 255 calories. Then I had an apple and a banana.

Then some family friends came over so I had some miss Vicki sea salt chips 420 calories, blaah.

I did drink alot of water yesterday though, about 72 oz or more I would say.

I weighed myself this morning and I was 213

Today is a fresh day! and to that it shall be!

Hey guys!

Today I finally made it to the gym! Woooo, I forgot how fun the gym is. I also forgot how easy it is to burn calories! Here I was making excuses as to why I wasn't getting my butt moving, but it really is quite simple and fun too! I spent 2 hours in the gym and burned 700 calories

today I had:

1 grapefruit 104 calories
1 smoothie 375 calories
1 bagel with butter 300 calories
1 booster juice from the gym 365 calories
1 apple 85 calories
Intake = 1229 calories

Exercise = 700 calories at the gym ( tredmill= 380; eliptical=140; bike= 110; eliptical=70)

Still have to eat din din....I've done so well today, I'm really proud of myself. Of course the booster juice is high in calories and it does have 96 carbs in it, but that's because it have 5 servings of fruits + 6g of protein + 11 g of fiber and only 0.8 g of fat. Does anyone think that's too many calories for a drink that gives that? Nir I know you'll have some good info for me! Please do let me know, because if it's bad I'll stop getting them.

Weight as of this morning is 212.6

Hey guys! I bought Turbo Jam yesterday at work it has the party mix 1 and the ab jam in it. I tried them both, they're pretty good. I've been drinking lots of water.

Yesterday I also had my ultrasound for my one year check up over the cyst. There was not a new one, so that is really good!

1 grapefruit 112 calories
1 oatmeal pouch 120 calories
1 banana 100 calories
1/2 glass of 1% milke 60 calories
1 1/2 cups of whole grain pasta 370 calories
1 ounce of cheese 100 calories
2 tbs of magarine 70 calories
1 yogurt 110 calories
1 apple 85 calories
6 crackers 120 calories

Intake 1240 calories

Exercise: Turbo Jam (45 minutes mix + 20 minutes ab) = ?? I don't know how many calories this would burn, some insight would be appreciated

Weight as of this morning was 209.6  I don't know how I lost 3.5 pounds over 2 days, I know it can't be water because I have been drinking my 6 glasses a day. Must be doing something right then....

That depends on whether you like to eat. Personally I would take the fruit over the drink any day, because I like to eat - and it takes longer to eat the fruit than to drink the juice (even if they've kept all the bits, and hence the fibre, in).

If somebody said "I'm always full but I need to eat more calories", perhaps the advice would be to drink their calories (e.g. a shake). Unless you're in that category, I would try to get as much of my calories from food instead of drink.

No problems with the nutrition though.

ps are you still around?

Hey guys,

Yeah I'm still around. I was doing well for awhile, and then I started going back to the gym, and really watched what I ate (1800 calories) and I would work out about 1000-1300 calories at the gym. (No weight lifting)

But then, instead of losing weight, I was gaining. (.2 to .8 pounds a day) I thought at first it was only water, but after a week with normal salt intake I still didn't lose anything, but was GAINING!

One day I found a chocolate bar on the counter after not having had anything like that in 2 weeks, and then I sort of lots it, and went back to pizza and blah blah food.

Ugh.

I'm back at 215 ish. I feel terrible. I was doing so well, I swear my body hates me. I want so badly to get under the 200 mark. And I try so hard not to jump on the scale every morning, but it's tough. You want to know so badly how you did, and when it shoots horrible results at you, you morn and give up.

I'm going to try and start back again tomorrow, tomorrow is a new day!

It's funny how different you feel when eating bad foods....when I had healthy food for 2 weeks I felt really....maybe not happier, but definitely healthy in my own body.

I hate how it takes like 3 days for your digestive system to get used to the new foods though, might be the extra pound or two you hang on to at the start :P

I missed you guys though, and thanks Nir for getting back to me on that. I was also thinking of buying a digital food scale. I know that this is supposed to be a life change and not a "diet" where you lose the weight then put it back on in a year. So I was thinking a food scale would be good. With cereal and stuff it always says the serving sizes in cups and such but some cereal have odd shapes and you go above the line, then you don't know how much to count the above the line stuff as, and just blah.

I've also heard green tea can help your metabolism like 4% in a month or something. I should probably start lifting weights again to gain muscle, that would burn some extra cals. I know the more muscles you have, the more cals you burn :)

I'm just a little #%@&! off cause I let myself go again, and with prom only 4 months away, it seems like I'm never going to reach my goals to look nice. I know I'm pretty, but I've been told the whole "Oh you're pretty from the chest up", yeah well thanks you jerks. I'm glad I have a boyfriend who can appreciate all of me. I'm ranting here, so, haha. Thanks you guys though, just rereading your journals gets me motivated again. Please try and speak to me too, I need a little smile once in  awhile to make me remember how awesome it feels to have a whole group of people cheering me on.

We cherished thoughts,
~Ella

Long time.

Last wednesday I weighed in as an offical new weigh in day. I weighed in at

214.8 pounds

Today is wednesday which would make one week from my last weigh in, I jumped on the scale this morning and read 211.6 pounds. Which is a total loss of 3.6 pounds wooo.

I've been drinking plenty of water, eating has been going really well, have not had junk food in a week! I've also been drinking green tea straight up, and that seems to be going well aswell. I will now weigh in every wednesday so next wednesday I shall post my new weight then.

My boyfriend is coming down from Texas on march 12th for march break. I'd like to be around 205 by then so that's 6.6 pounds to lose in 12 days or 0.55 pounds a day
I hope to be able to do this as I go to the gym 2-3 times a week when I don't work and I do turbo Jam when I do work plus like 1 1/2 hours of walking now, wooo. I like walking now, it's so fun!

I'll keep posting, so no worries, I'm still alive! And I'm still reading your diaries and I'll post on yours aswell.

See you guys soon!

Hi Ella! Great job on the weight loss!

I wanted to thank you for posting in my diary! In answer to your question:

My train of thought is this:

My sedentary calories burned (1825) includes breathing, blinking, etc etc. So when I do an exercise, if I merely add those calories burned on, then I have given myself credit for breathing and blinking for that period of time TWICE. So, let's say I walk on the treadmill for thirty minutes and burn 120 calories. If I had sat and done nothing but blink, breathe, etc (I use the sitting quietly---eg watching tv) then for that thrity minutes i would have burned around 30 calories, just sitting. So, the calories I really burned in that hour are (120-30)90-------because I have already got the cals for breathing in my sedentary cals burned, the 1825.

I use the sedentary instead of an activity factor because I am rarely inactive or active consistently, so i like to just say I am sedentary then add on the exercise.

Hope that makes sense! If not let me know and I will try to clarify better!

Hey CG, thanks for replying.

Wow, now that I think about it, that does make an awful lot of sense, I never thought about it that way. I might start doing the same thing then....thank you for the tip!

Hey Ella! Thanks for the comment in my diary! You're so sweet. I responded to you on my diary too, but I wanted to stop in and see yours. I see you've been doing really well! Don't worry about the slip up. I think you might have been gaining weight a couple weeks ago because you weren't eatting enough for all the exercise you were doing. You lost weight at first because of all the calories you were burning, but then your metabolism fell because you weren't getting enough calories in... so that would explain the weight gain. This is exactly what happened to me! I started eatting low amounts of calories everyday and lost weight rapidly at first... then after only a couple weeks or so I started gaining! I couldn't understand what was going on. Then, after reading a lot on this site, I found out that I was actually ruining my metabolism. So I bumped up my calorie intake and I've been losing weight consistently ever since. I would recommend you try this. As Nir said above in your diary you should never go above your basic RMR. But, since you exercise so much... you should really add calories to your RMR and eat that many. I know it sounds scary to do because you're probably worried about gaining weight... but many people on this site have gone through the same thing. My spring break is the same week! Aren't you excited ? You'll look great at prom. I think curvy women look fenominal in dresses. Think of women like Queen Latifa she is a very gorgeous, sexy woman, who looks amazing in a dress. Plus, by then I'm sure you'll be working very hard and eatting healhty, so you'll confident which will make you glow that much more . Good luck with everything! Feel free to vent to me whenever like I did to you!

Awww, thanks sara, no worries about the rant, I don't mind em

I've been doing alot of walking lately, and I think it's paying off.

Mom baked peanut butter cookies last night and I got into a fight with her over it. My mother does not just bake one batch of cookies, oh no, my mother likes to bake 100s of cookies at a time. Her mentality is that if the oven is on, might as well bake while it's on. She #%@&!ing frustrates me SOOO much. I hate having stupid cookies in the house, blah get them away. I ended up eating 3 of them which is like 100 calories each because it's peanut butter and loaded with #%@&!!

I wish I could just say no....sigh, hopefully someday the temptations won't seem as tempting.

Wednesday is weigh in for me...I think I'm doing good. I took CG's advice as to note down the weigh in date weight as the "offical" weight and then everything else doesn't really count until the next weigh in...seems to be working. You tend to forget your previous weight if you don't note it down. I seem less discouraged now that I note the weigh in date weight down.

Ooh, Ella---I think you did marvelous to only eat three cookies!!! I probably would have eaten all hundred!! I am just the same way, I can resist things just fine if they aren't around, but put them in front of me and I lose all willpower.

The bad part is, I bring these things upon myself, usually. My Mom is not a baker. But, I like to make cookies for people...friends atschool, family, church get togethers, etc...but usually wind up eating way too many myself! Shame on me.

Yep, tomorrow is the official weigh in day! How very much i want to peek...but I won't! I will give myself tomorrow to try and fix today...

Do I drink lots of water to flush out all the sodium I ate today, or practically no water so I don't retain it because of all the salt I ate today?

I'm glad walking is working for you! It is probably the exercise I turn to most often...basically, it is just so easy! Anyone can do it, pretty much

Thanks for the post Ella! I think that's kind of refreshing that you don't count your calories and that you're just eatting healthy. I don't remember the last time I went a whole day without atleast ballpark adding up my calories... it's been years... it's kind of a habbit and it gets annoying. I do, however, think it is a good idea to use the calorie calculators on this site because sometimes foods that you think are low in calories really aren't (and when we're lucky it works the other way around). Also, then when you feel like splurging a little bit, you can figure out which splurge is the best. I like keeping track of my protein and fat intake. I think once you start you'll be really surprised at how much fat junk food actually has in it! I always thought chips were mostly carbs... I was wrong! Anyway... my point is that I think it is a good idea for you to keep track of your calories/fat/protein/fiber... just don't get addicted . Oh yeah... I had macaroni this weekend too! It had been soooo long since I had let myself and it was sooo good :yum:.

Keep working hard!

Sara

Today is the day. THE DAY. The day where I realized that I want to be healthy. When I was 243 pounds I got a kick in the butt from a program I was in with nutritionist and such. I was weighed every month and I had small goals of slightly changing ways that helped me drop down to 210s. I made small subtle changes to my body to help me get healthier. Such as : Eating only whole grain bread, whole grain pasta, diet pop instead of juice and pop and lots and lots of water. Along with tons of fruits and veggies and started eating breakfast and exercising regularly. This all helped me to shed 30 pounds. However, I have been stuck in my 210s for 6 months now. Today I realized it's because I started slacking off. My body needs a little push, I need to push myself harder to sweat like I used to, to feel the good pain that I used to from exercise. Today is the day I start fresh at 213.2 pounds. I will not fall off the wagon again! Do you hear me?

I WILL NOT FALL OFF THE WAGON AGAIN!

My new plan is the following:

Daily calories in = 1945 calories
Daily calories out = 2445 calories
Difference = 500 calories

Calories lost in a week from eating healthy = 500 X 7 = 3500 calories

The gym

I can go to the gym on the days I do not work. I don't work 2 times during the work week. I can burn 500-750 calories in an hour at the gym. I will go to the gym these 2 days a week even if I don't feel like it! This new life style change is my new job, and it will be a full time job that will be fun! I have to go even if I don't want to or I'll get fired! (Gain weight)

Calories burned @ the gym in a week = 500 calories X 2 = 1000 - 193 = 807 calories

Curves

I am going to try out curves for a month and see if I like it. I can go to curves when I work as it is right by my work! They say to go to curves 3 times a week to see the best results so this is what I will do. They say you can burn 182 calories in one session for a woman who weighs 135 pounds. As a woman who weighs 213.2 pounds I am sure I can burn at least 200 calories in a session so this is the figure I will use.

Calories burned @ curves in a week = 200 calories X 3 = 600 - 145 = 455 calories

Turbo Jam

I recently bought these videos and like them alot. So I will start doing them regularly. I like the 20 minute one the best. I will try this one out for a month and see how it goes. I'm using the tae bo calorie figure for this video as no one seems to have a rough estimate of how much you can burn. Tae bo and turbo Jam are similar. They say you can burn 387 calories in a 20 minute tae bo tape with moderate effort. I'll use 300 as an estimate for turbo Jam. I can do this any time as I have the video on hand, however I will try and do a minimum of 3 times a week.

Calories burned doing Turbo Jam = 300 calories X 3 = 900 - 97 = 803 calories

Work

I'm a cashier, therefore I stand for 4 hours to 6 hours during a shift doing light activity ( Scanning items and lifting heavy boxes etc) I work 3 times a week.

Calories burned @ work = 744 calories - 387 = 387 X 3 times a week = 1161 calories

Walking

I started walking to both school and work instead of taking the bus. I like it, it's fun and I get to spend time thinking and such! I love it now..

Calories burned walking to school = 97 calories - 32 = 65 calories X 5 times a week = 325 calories

Calories burned walking to work = 121 calories - 40 = 81 calories X 2 times that day = 162 calories X 3 times a week = 486 calories

The Stairs

There are these stairs near my house, about a 20 minute walk, that go up the mountain. They have about 350 stairs and take 5 minutes to climb. I plan to do this twice for a total of 10 minutes once a week to start off.

Calories burned on the stairs = 145 calories - 16 = 129 calories + 65 calories from walking 20 minutes to the stairs = 194 calories

Total calories lost in a week =
3500 + 807 + 455 + 803 + 1161 + 325 + 486 + 194 =  7731 calories which also equals 2.2 pounds.

Just looking at my new plan has me extremely motivated! I can't wait to see some awesome results, and feel more energized and beautiful! And most of all: I WILL NOT FALL OF THIS WAGON. This is my new plan and this is what I will follow!

I will not weigh myself in a month! A whole month! It has been a long time since I have not weighed myself in a month. Maybe like 2 years or more. It's going to be tough, but I am putting my scale AWAY! On April 7th I will weigh myself and post on here! Every day I will keep you up to date with my food intake an exercise. I hope to lose 14.2 pounds in a month, which would put me at 199.2! And finally I will be in my 190s! I am so excited. It is going to happen!

I WILL NOT FALL OF THIS WAGON!

I like your plan Ella! You can do this. A whole month huh? Wow, if I was working that hard for a whole month I would be so curious. Just think about how great it will feel to step on the scale for the first time and see the number start with a 1. I really hope you stick with this. You deserve to be healthy.

Day 1: I DID NOT FALL OFF THE WAGON!

Hey guys! Today as you know I started my new plan. However, as I started in the late afternoon I didn't get a chance to correctly count my calories, so that will start tomorrow. I will be counting: Fiber, protein, fat, carbs, salt and sugar.

I did get a chance to get tons of exercise in though!

Calories burned doing Turbo Jam = 300 calories - 32 = 268 calories
Calories burned walking to school = 97 calories - 32 = 65 calories X 2 = 130 calories
Calories burned walking to work = 121 calories - 40 = 81 calories X 2 times that day = 162 calories
Calories burned @ work = 744 calories - 387 = 387 calories

Total calories burned through exercise: 947 calories.

I hope on friday that I while have joined curves. As I worked tonight tomorrow and thursday I don't have a chance to go to curves with my mom to check it out. Friday we both don't have school or work so we will go then and see if It's really something I wanna do since the money is gonna be coming out of my pocket

I think working in extra activity walking to school and work is a GREAT idea!!  Other times in my life, when I walked to and from school and/or work - I had a MUCH easier time with my weight and fitting into my clothes.
Keep it up!!

Day 2: FULL STEAM AHEAD!

Today was awesome, I felt really happy and I felt like: Man, this is gonna be so much fun! And it is going to be. I'm not on a diet, I'm on a lifestyle change, and I love walking and exercise is fun too! I'm liking this already

Man, it was hard getting in all my calories through good food  You have to eat alot more of good stuff to equal the same amount of lets say a bag of chips. Hah.

Name       Amount       Calories      Fiber     Carbs    Protein    Fats     Salt

Total                                1902.5cal   48.4g   281.85g  86.3g   47.7g   2218mg

So I'm pretty happy of my numbers today. The carbs were a little high. I think you can all tell I'm on a low-carb diet :grin: Not really though, just kidding  Fiber was awesome! So was fat and salt. I think protein was pretty okay. If someone could do the % of each one, I would really appreciate that. Or show me how, would be even better.

I got alot of exercise in today too. About the same as yesterday

Calories burned doing Turbo Jam = 300 calories - 32 = 268 calories
Calories burned walking to school = 97 calories - 32 = 65 calories X 2 = 130 calories
Calories burned walking to work = 121 calories - 40 = 81 calories X 2 times that day = 162 calories
Calories burned @ work = 744 calories - 387 = 387 calories

Total calories In from food: 1902.5 calories
Calories normally burned: 2432
Total calories out from exercise: 947 calories
Deficit: 1476.5 calories  Say wooot!

Just seeing these numbers makes me feel so good. I am definitely going to continue!

Just thought logically and found out that my percentages are these:

Carbs: 67.7%
Protein: 20.7%
Fat: 11.47%

Ugh! The carbs are terrible! What the heck....I need to bring those wayyy down. Like 180g - 200g. Ouph. Well that's how you learn. Heh.

yeah, I agree with the walking to work and school. I contribute a lot of my weight loss once I came to college to walking around on campus. I can't wait until it's warm enough to walk everyday! My friend and I like to take really long walks at night when we can't sleep. We walk all the way across town, down greek row, and back. It comes out to about 7 miles in 2 hrs.!

It's pretty cold here right now. We're in the -25 -30 degrees C. Which is very cold! But I still walk because who cares. Yeps it's cold when you first go out, but you warm up after about 2 minutes of walking. Carrying a bag and 10 pounds worth of boots and a winter coat helps too. Haha.

I can see what you've done (you've added 281.85+86.3+47.7 together as 415.85, and then looked at those grams e.g. 281.85/415.85 is 67.7)

Well it doesn't quite work this way. The main reason is that one gram of protein or carbs is 4 calories, but a gram of fat is 9 calories. Here's how it is done:

1) start with fat%: ( 47.7 x 9 ) / 1902.5 x 100 = 22.57%

2) work out protein%: ( 86.3 x 4 ) / 1902.5 x 100 = 18.14%

3) carb figures are usually a bit unreliable, so best practice is to just figure the difference:     carb% = 100 - 22.57 - 18.14 = 59.29%

Hey, Nir, that's what I do too:tongue:    I had a conversation with Peter in my diary a while back, about the carbs.   Isn't it something to do with the fiber, that throws it off?    I like doing it this way, because it's one less thing to keep track of:grin:    I think it was Nevd, who said to track the protein and fat, and the carbs will take care of themselves!

Ohhh I see! thank you so much! What is the "normal" range to aim for each day for percentage of each? Just so I know sort of what to aim for

Hey ella-

I don't know what Nir would say, but I try to aim for between 15-20% fat, and atleast 30% protein, and then I just don't worry about my carbs... they just fall where they fall. I also count fiber and I try to get at the very least 25 grams. Hope that helps!

I agree. Fat 15-20%. Protein 25-30% (take you weight, convert to kilos, multiply by 1.8 and you have the number of grams of protein you should be aiming for). Carbs to take care of themselves (aiming to have carbs come from quality sources: vegetables, fruit, legumes and whole-grain are somewhat better than table sugar and ice-cream...)

Day 3: LOOKING GOOD

Hey guys. My back was very sore yesterday during work. I think it's the boats I where at work. They don't have an arch, so this might be the problem. I like them though! They are so comfortable  I took some advil last night and mom rubbed some tiget balm on my lower back. It feels much better today, so that's good. I have to work again tonight...I hope it doesn't happen again.

protein%: ( 82.7g x 4 ) / 1926 x 100 = 17.17%

carb% = 100 - 36.28 - 17.17 = 46.55%

Ugh. Protein is wayyyy too low! I'll have to bring that up tomorrow. Fats is high too, although a big part of it is good fats from peanuts in shells (no salt). So basically I need to bring carbs down some more and up protein. Hmmm. Calories were right on target. Fiber was sky high. Is there a down fall to eating TOO MUCH fiber?

Same amount of exercise today as the last two days. I'm going to try to hit the gym tomorrow. I decided not to join curves right now as my boyfriend is coming down and I won't use it for a week while he's here. So might as well wait a week

Pants don't feel as tight today...must mean I'm doing something right  A quick question. Should I weigh myself at day 14 to make sure that I'm losing to possibly see if I need to modify my calories or not? Do you think it doesn't matter, that I should wait the full 30days?

Hmmmmmm........I beg to differ about the fiber thing.     Fiber is good for relieving constipation.     According to "The China Study", when you follow an "Eat to Live" type of diet, with lots of whole grains, veggies and fruits.......you may have bowel movements 2-3 times a day, which according to him, is more the norm in countries other than the U.S., where most people eat way too little fiber.

Right now, when I'm doing the carb-cycling.....I'm not getting in as much fiber as usual.    Normally, I always get over 30 grams..........and 50-80 is not hard to do.   I have never been constipated while eating like that.   But, maybe that's just me???   I have more of a tendency toward constipation when I eat too much protein or if I'm eating junk, instead of my fruits, veggies and whole grains.

Good point, Nir!    I forget to point that out.......I regularly drink 10-14 glasses of water a day, so I tend to forget that others might not be diligent about getting their fluids in.

Day 4: MARCH BREAK!

March break started today. Which is the beginning of my real test. Because here I am alone all day at home. Access to food 24/7. So I have to really control what I eat or else my calories will go sky high. Mom left to go see her dad and mom in Ottawa (about 7 hours away) So it's just me and dad to fend for ourselves. Today I kept right on track!

Name       Amount    Calories      Fiber     Carbs    Protein    Fats     Salt
All Bran       1 cup       190           11g        47g        6g         1.5g     240mg

Total                        1958cals    43.6g   226.1g  127.2g   64.95g  3238mg

protein%: ( 127.2g x 4 ) / 1958 x 100 = 25.98%

carb% = 100 - 29.85 - 25.98 = 44.17%

Finally got that protein up! Mmm that boneless chicken breast in my chicken salad was divine. Salt intake was waaay too high today. Thanks to the ham, cheese and salad dressing. We were out of lite salad dressing so I had to go with a calorie filled kind. (The only one in the fridge)

Got some exercise in....My boyfriend isn't coming down until Wednesday and he's staying until Monday. However, maybe I'll walk down to curves (35 minutes) and check it out and see if I can sign up without a parent (I'm 17). I wanted to go to the gym, but my back is still sore a bit and I don't want to hurt myself further.

Cleaning: Vacuuming for 30 minutes = 169 calories - 48 = 121 calories
Calories burned doing Turbo Jam = 300 calories - 32 = 268 calories

Total calories In from food: 1958 calories
Calories normally burned: 2432
Total calories out from exercise:  389 calories

Today I was very dissapointed with my calorie intake along with fat, protein and carb intake. I went to the movies with my dad; we went and saw 300. It's fantastic. I didn't have any popcorn. But I did opt for the corn chips (very salty) and cheese dip. However I only ate about 1/4 of the thing. and about 2 tbs of the cheese dip. I didn't really enjoy them...so I stopped eating them. Best choice I made.  Therefore, I think my rough calorie estimation for that might be a little high to what it actually was. But to play it safe I will stick to that. Didn't get much exercise in today...I was sore. Tomorrow I'm going to the gym though...no if ands or buts.

Seeing as my calories could have been much much higher due to a trip to the movies, I'm proud that I didn't have popcorn which would have cost me 1500 calories. So yay for that!

Calories burned doing Turbo Jam = 300 calories - 32 = 268 calories

Day 6: FEELING LIGHTER!

Today I woke up feeling lighter....just for kicks I tried on my school uniform pants and I can tie them without even having them touch my skin! Wow....I'm so excited to step on the scale. It's only been 6 days and I feel 10 pounds lighter already. Oh man, I wish I could step on that scale  Someone give me a reason to!

protein%: ( 162.3g x 4 ) / 1947 x 100 = 33.34%

carb% = 100 - 30.6 - 33.34 = 36.06%

Today's percentages are awesome. Protein was good today. Carbs as well. Now I need only to grab more protein with less fat and I think it'll be perfect. My sodium is very high today because I'm finding it hard to find protein sources; I bought lunch meat because they have low calories but high protein, however the sodium in them is terribly high.

I finally got to the gym today, just as I promised myself yesterday

Calories burned doing Turbo Jam = 300 calories - 32 = 268 calories

Don't do it! Lol. You can make it without the scale. Just think how rewarding it's going to be to see the huge loss at the end of the month!

Congrats on the pants! Keep up the good work!

Day 7: ONE WEEK!

So today is the end of week one. I think I did really excellent this week. I feel really good. Lonely a bit. There's nothing to do here all day and I can only go to the gym for so long  But my boyfriend is coming down in 2 days, wooohooo. So he'll keep me entertained for a few days (6 to be exact).

I tried on an old pair of pants that fit me when I was 205 and....THEY FIT! They are a little snug, but they were when I was 205 as well. This has be very motivated and I'm so anxious to jump on the scale and sneak a peak. I don't think I'll be able to wait the full month  So on day 14 I'll have a mid point weigh in, and I'll let you guys know how I'm doing!

I'm drinking about 500ml-750ml of green tea a day and grapefruits and tons of water. Which are all good for promoting weighed loss. It must be everything overall because I'm feeling changes happening. This is what I needed, I had forgotten how nice it made me feel.

I took some measurements a week ago the day I started this and had loss them, but I found them today while I was cleaning:

Day 1                               End of week 1               Loss in a week
Chest 45 inches                    43 inches                         2 inches
Waist: 36 inches                   34 inches                         2 inches
Belly button: 42 inches         39 inches                         3 inches
Hips: 44 inches                     42 inches                         2 inches
Thighs: 27 inches                  25 inches                         2 inches
calves: 18 inches                  16.5 inches                     1.5 inches
Total                                                                            12.5 inches

So wow....I can't believe I've lost 12.5 inches in 1 WEEK! It's crazy  I guess I did need to eat more calories, I'm glad I found the amount my body needed. I'm so pleased right now!

Day 8: LAZY DAAAAY!

Today was a very lazy day. I watched tv almost all day. But while watching I did manage to vacuum the whole house, wash both bathrooms, fold 3 baskets of clothing and make dinner. The boyfriend is coming tomorrow and staying for 6 days so the house has to look presentable. (I know, I don't sound like I'm 17, haha) I may also not get to post for those 6 days, but you be sure that I'll still be doing my counting on my own and I'll update you all on the 19th with my stats, measurements and my mid point weigh-in. You guys have fun! I'll try and post
