Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say hi and wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.  I found this website from a list of the best health/weight loss websites listed in my newspaper.  I like the calculators a lot, but think the forums could actually be the best yet.

A little bit about myself and my goals.  I have throughout the years become quite sedantary whereas back in my college years I was kind of a jockette.  I actually have a teaching degree in phys ed.  Well here I am in my 50's at over 300 pounds at 5 foot 7.  I had gotten so depressed realizing how small my world had become with my few joys in life being a new episode of my favorite tv shows and a big dish of ice cream.

I determined that what I wanted to give myself for Christmas was a healthier me in the  year 2007!  I am very focused on making a difference to myself this year.   So far so good.  I joined the Y and have been faithfully going and doing various activities.  I've been taking a group strengthening/free weights class that I really like.  I always thought that the weights were more of a guy thing but I really like it.  I consider it a victory to just get off my butt and go do anything!

The food is always a challenge.  Portion control is a BIG issue with me.

Thanks -- Patchers

Activities today:  Low impact aerobics class

Food:

 breakfast 0

Lunch:  2 chicken salad rollups made with flour tortillas and a banana

Dinner: 4 oz chicken breast grilled, 1/2 c green beans, 1 large bread stick

Snack: 1 cup fat free chocolate pudding made with skim milk

There's lots of great info on this site!  Peter's done a wonderful job on:cph:

Thanks for the invite.  Yes I do know that skipping breakfast isn't a good idea.  Actually I overslept and was running late to the aerobics class, haha.

I was just watching a show that was on abc last night about morbid obesity.  I hate being in that classification.  This is going to be the week that I break into the 200's I hope.  I didnt get here overnight but my brain tells me that I want to be healthier NOW.  I guess it is that instant gratification thing that is such a part of me.

I think that is just human nature.........we all want that.   It's takes real guts to go the slower, healthy way of proper eating and exercise!

You are on your way:tongue:

dinner :

4 oz steak

Hi Patchers!!!  Welcome to :cph:, I'm so glad you joined us!!  I greatly appreciate the post you made in my diary - thanks - and I look forward to following your weight loss journey.

I've also belonged to that 'instant gratification' club and want it all NOW.  But once I let go of all that, and did things the slow & healthy way like Hisgal just said, it sort of all came together.  I strive for that 1 - 2 pound loss each week by eating healthy and exercising...and over time it really adds up LOL!

I hope you find this forum as valuable as I do.  It holds me accountable which I very much need.  Everyone here is very helpful & supportive and wants to see you reach all your goals.

Again, welcome and good luck.

Hey Patchers....I just have a comment if you don't mind. It sounds like you are starving yourself.....is this ALL you ate today???? An orange for breakfast, grilled cheese for lunch and  a cup of soup? So, you are 5'7 inches tall, and over 300 lbs and exercising and using weights and your total calories looks like about 500 calories so far for the day. ??? Is this accurate? Or is there MORE that you didn't list?

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I think you need to eat more calories to burn the fat. Your metabolism is going to slow and then stop and then you will burn muscle instead of fat.... IF you dont get enough calories REGULARLY. Aren't you hungry more often? I could never eat so little, I would be STARVING! Maybe thats what you are used to though, so don't take my opinion or advice, but maybe do your numbers with the calculators and see how many calories you should be eating daily to lose the fat. I bet you are gonna flip when you see the number! Its probably something around 2,800 calories!!!!!!!!

I kinda went through this in the beginning...I was definitely in "starvation" mode and I had to learn the hard way...so hopefully this helps a little.

Wow, OWF is really onto something.  I kinda missed the food part in that last post.  I eat approximately that many calories from breakfast and a mid-morning snack!!  Hopefully you've just omitted some things.  One thing to really take to heart is the importance of feeding yourself correctly.  You'll only get so far and stall out quickly if you don't.

Run your stats through the calculators here...if you need help just shout!  We are blessed with having Nir here on this board who is a magician with the math and is fully loaded with wonderful info.  He's helped me so many times.

Let us know what you think.

Not to Worry OWF, not eating enough has NEVER been my problem, lol.  I just didn't have my dinner listed yet when you saw what I had listed.  I have since edited it and added my very nice dinner.  I haven't done the calculations yet but am hoping to stay within the 1500 - 1800 cal range and under 25 g of fat range daily.   Also don't ever hesitate to comment or give me advice I certainly appreciate everyone taking the time to help me along.  It is SOOO nice not to feel like I am alone in this.  Tomorrow is weigh in day at the Y for me and here's hoping I leave the 300's behind!

Thanks again.

Hi again Patchers!  I don't know your exact age (you did mention 50s), but I did plug your basic info in the calculators here...and your unadjusted RMR is around 2000 calories.  That's without any activity added...just being alive & breathing.  I certainly am not an expert - LOL - but you really should check out the calculators and the tutorial here to get a good idea where you should be.  The one thing I know for sure is that it's a bad idea to go below your unadjusted RMR...you don't want to slow and eventually damage your metabolism. You'll lose weight at first...but you'll also be losing valuable muscle mass...and once the metabolism slows - so do the losses.

Good luck at your weigh in!!!

Happy Saturday everyone!

And it is a happy day for me as my weigh-in at the Y went well.  Down from 301 to 298 so I have broken through to the 200's!!! Probably not as exciting as breaking into the 100's but a big deal to me!

So now I need some help with the numbers.

BMI based on being a 55 yr. old female 5foot7 and 298 is 46.7 down form 47.8 so making good progress there.

BMR = 2607

RMR = 2573 based on a basically sedantary lifestyle.

Do these #'s sound right?

So if I understand it right if I eat less calories daily than the RMR the difference is considered a calorie deficit and when the deficits add up to 3500 1 pound is history.  Is that right?  So if my thinking is correct if I stick with about a 2000 cal daily eating plan in a week I would lose a pound.  Plus any extra calories I burn exercising or working or whatever would increase the deficit?

I would actually be quite happy with 1 to 2 pound weight loss per week.  Just think in a year I could lose 50 pounds or more.  I would be quite a different person at 250 than at 300!

ps I'll post my exercise and meals later on this evening.

Hello!

Thank you very much for your encouraging message on my diary.  It was very nice to see and brought a smile to my face!  It's nice to know there are others out there going through the same thing too :)

I definitely applaud your efforts.  You are off to an amazing!  Already 7 lbs down..and if you keep it up I know you'll lose more!  It's going to be a great adventure, one that I'm excited to continue reading about!

Here is food/workout list for today

1 hour of water aerobics (that really wears me out)

Food

Breakfast - nope

Lunch - 2 chicken salad rollups made with 2 flour tortillas, chicken salad and a small amount of shredded cheese

orange

Dinner - 4 oz steak, baked potato with fat free sour cream and 1/2 cup green beans

Snack - Mint chocolate chip ice cream (I used to have this every night but am saving it as a special treat on the weekends.  I work every other weekend so I am going to allow myself this treat 4 nights a month.)  I'll have to see if this works for me because I am a major ice cream lover.  Realistically I don't see me ever giving it up totally but we'll see.

Congratulations on the loss!

You are right about your cals. Isn't it amazing to see how many you are allowed to eat?

Actually 2000 is right on the borderline of where you need to be. Your unadjusted RMR, if you notice, is 1979. You should never eat below that number---that is when your metabolism will start slowing down. So, you'd be fine to go a bit higher...a lot of people shoot for the magic number of 15% percent below maintainence which for you would be...about 2185. But as long as you don't go below your unadjusted you're good

Have a nice rest-of-the-weekend!

I didn't understand what you meant by the unadjusted RMR CG?  Where did you get that #?  Is that the least I should consume or the most?

The results of your calculations are:  BMR 2,005   RMR 1,979 (calories)

For an explanation of BMR and RMR and important notes on the accuracy of these calculations, see Calculating BMR and RMR. We also explain why RMR is likely to be more appropriate for your needs.

As BMR and RMR only represent resting energy expenditure or calories burned during a day of rest, an adjustment must be made to reflect activity level. This can be done by multiplying by an activity factor:

Factor
Category
BMR
RMR

1.2
Bed Rest
2,406
2,375

1.3
Sedentary
2,607
2,573

1.4
Active
2,807
2,771

1.5
Very Active
3,008
2,969

Use of these activity factors produces a very rough estimate. For a more accurate estimate, calculate the actual activities that you perform as described in Calculating Daily Calorie Needs.

The number I'm talking about I made really big. It is called your unadjusted RMR. It's the number you have before you use the sedentary factor. You should never eat below that number.

At least that is what I've been told

Thanks CG for the explanation.  I think I will try to stay in the 2000-2100 cal range then.  I am slowly going through all the tutorials to try to get a grip on this stuff.

Well after re-reading my food post from yesterday, my little story about the ice cream hit me as making excuses for bad behavior.  Now I know darn well that I have 3 trigger foods

ice cream

peanut butter

cheese

So why do I want to sabatage my efforts at a healthier me by planning ahead to HAVE those foods?  The end result of this was I skipped the ice cream and went with Jello sugar free pudding instead.  And surprisingly I SURVIVED!

I do like to have something sweet in the evenings though so instead of ice cream I will opt for pudding, fruit, jello or tonight a piece of anglefood cake.

:apple:

Todays exercise was a pathetic 1/2 hour with a Jillian Michaels dvd (remember her from Biggest Loser trainers?  It was a killer dvd and was the first time I tried it.

Todays food was:

Breakfast - v-8 juice

Lunch 2 tacos - homemade

Dinner 4 oz of pork chop, 1 c of noodleroni , 1/2 c carrots and anglefood cake

Everyone have a good week!

Ohhh Patchers! I own a few of hers - which one was it??  The only reason I ask is that I purchased 3 of them quite awhile ago and NEVER got beyond watching them LOL!!!  Just previewing them made me ! I have knee problems that get aggravated easily so I have to be careful...these videos looked like they would KILL me.  All the jumping...plyometrics, etc.

I own Shape Up Complete:  Disc 1 - Front...Disc 2 Backside, and Cardio Kickbox.  It's just sooo funny you mentioned her videos...the other day I was actually considering previewing them again to see if I can handle them now.  I've lost quite a few pounds since the last time I considered trying them...but don't know if I'm up for the task LOL.  Brave you!

Actually, from what I know, peanut butter is good for you (in moderations, of course.) Sometimes for a small snack I'll have a tsp. of peanut butter. It helps boost your metabolism and is also a good protein.

I guess a tsp. of peanut butter wouldn't be so bad Jordyn, unfortunately with me that would only be the beginning.  I've been known to put peanut butter on a lot of strange food, so I'm better off not having any.

So far today I have not had time to eat yet but did make it to my weight lifting class.  I could almost keep up with half of it.  Now picture me at almost 300 in this studio with mirrors all around with a bunch of "Barbie's".  Now the Barbie's are hefting 8 or 10 pound dumbells and I am struggling with 3's and 5's.  Absolutely pathetic except that I am TRYING!  Plus they have all been really encouraging for me to keep coming.  The most difficult exercise for me is just getting my fat butt out of my recliner and getting there.  Once I am there I will try anything.

I'm headed to work here shortly.  Always before when I've gone on a "diet" I probably talked incessently about it to my coworkers.  This time I'm feeling more like this is a new life I'm seeking and don't particularly want to share it at work.  Funny.  I guess I'm waiting for them to notice a change.  It is too bad that others noticing that we've changed is so important.  Does anyone else feel this way?

Have a good Monday everyone! ----- Patchers

I do. I feel that way, too!  My success only becomes "real" ESPECIALLY with weight loss when someone notices.  Otherwise I fight the battle in my own head for what seems like ever. I hear you on that one!

:shooting_star: I think it's wonderful that you are going to the gym!!!!!!!!! :shooting_star: And dont put yourself down, Patchers. You should feel proud!!!!!   3 and 5 lb weights are tough and they tone muscle!! EVERY body is different. Who cares what anyone else is lifting anyway? This is YOUR workout. 3 and 5 lb weights are more than you were lifting before...so its progress!!

About the "barbies"....um, do you call them that because they are blonde with big boobs? Just curious cause these "barbies" you speak of might not think of themselves that way. I am not sticking up for them, I dont know them, but I have had new people at the gym make mean comments to me and my friend....about weights and aerobics and I am not sure why because neither of us feels good about ourselves, that is why we are at the gym, to IMPROVE. They would say things like "what are you doing in this class??? YOU dont need to be here like I do!" and I found things like that really mean. How do they know what I need? They dont know where I started and where my head is. I am just happy I am blessed enough to be able to work out. I am not saying this is what you were thinking, I am just saying we are (basically) all in the same boat. We might look differently or have more or less "fat" to lose at any given time, but I feel we all have the same (or similar) issues with our bodies. Do you feel that way?

Anyway, great job on TRYING. :ribbon: Don't ever give up!!!!!!!! Keep going! We are all here for each other, as I found out again today. We are blessed to have this forum too.

No OWF I didn't mean anything derogatory about refering to the other ladies as Barbies.  Actually I wish I could look like them.  It is just that to me they just look in great shape plus I have at least 25 years on most of them.  But I know like you said that they all have their issues.  I know a couple of them just had babies so they are trying to get back into pre baby shape.  I would NEVER knowingly say anything to offend someone else and I hope I haven't offended you with my post.

I am a big believer in letting everyone do their own thing their way and would never knowingly discourage anyone.  All these ladies have been very encouraging to me and I am enjoying their company and it is easier than trying to workout alone.

Patchers,

Not at all!! No worries. You didn't offend me in the least and I know what you mean about (maybe?) feeling a little left out or like you dont belong? IS that how it makes you feel? No worries. I felt the same way at one point too. You WILL reach your goal and it wont happen overnight, but the process is long and hard but worth it! If you get to know some of these women, who knows? You might make some good friends and they may have been in your shoes a couple years ago too. I have a quick story to share with you: This is how I met one of my closest friends. AT the gym. 2 or 3 years ago, I would go to the gym (well, I have been going to the gym regularly for about 15 years total) but I would go and not look at or speak to anyone. Just do my workout and leave. I kinda had a chip on my shoulder I think some would say. After all, I wasn't there for social reasons anyway...so why did I want to waste time getting to know some of these people who looked soooo superficial??!! (I go to GOLDS-and there is a stigma for a reason) Anyway, I was always in the same classes, week after week with the same women, but never spoke and I was happy that way. I wasnt there to make friends anyway.  One day, before class there was about 7 minutes to chill out before the instructor came in and started and this girl turned to me and asked if I was in the movie Kinsey! This girl was in every class I took for at least 6 months or more and we never even said hello once. So, I was SHOCKED!!! Especially cause no one knew I was an actress AND on top of that, my part got cut down to about 3 special close ups and a scene in the trailer to the feature film so it was BARELY noticeable by people who knew me, let alone people I never spoke with! I said "wow. How did you know that??" And she said she went to the movies and recognized me. (Its a period piece so there are lots of costumes and heavy makeup and weird hairstyles plus I weighed 152 pounds at the time it was filmed) "Wow" I thought. So she and I started talking and I asked her to keep it a secret cause I didn't want to talk about my acting career with many people because they dont understand. Well, she did! She was so sweet and nice and actually interested in MOST of the same things I was!!! It turned out, we go to the same hairstylist (The city isn't THAT small!!!) AND we liked the same actors and actresses and the same clothing lines and perfumes and foods!!!!! Oh my gosh! We started talking ONLY at the gym for about 7 months and then finally we exchanged numbers and went to lunch and a movie and ever since then, we are best friends. I can depend on her for anything if I need it and she can with me. I NEVER thought in a million years I would be friends with this person because she looks different than me and is ALOT (about 40 pounds) skinnier than I am, so how can she possibly relate to my overeating problems??? I never shared them until recently. Well, it turns out...She IS A RECOVERING ANOREXIC!! She has the exact issues with FOOD as I do! We are both on our own missions but we support and encourage and inspire each other. Now I look forward to going to the gym, cause I know she is in this with me!! It makes it so much easier when someone is waiting for you, instead of having to drag yourself there and be on your own. One of the other instructors at the gym said me and her are the best things that happened to each other! He knew both of us individually all that time and he said its a shame we didnt become friends sooner! Isn't that funny? You just never know what will happen. Anyhoo, even if you dont meet your new best friend at the gym, know that everyone on :cph: is here for you!!! Everyone here is in similar situations and can relate so feel free to depend on us for encouragement, support and help! That, we have Peter to thank for! Everybody say it all altogether: :monkey:THANKS PETER!!!:monkey:

Anyway, I like your goal of:star: losing 15 lbs :star:and it sounds definitely realistic!! Keep up the positive attitude!!!   YOU CAN AND WILL DO THIS!!!:sun::rainbow::sun::rainbow::sun:

Thanks OWF for the great story.  I'll try and keep myself open to meeting new people.  Usually don't you find that to be the case that once you get to know someone more than superficially you can relate to them better.  EVERYONE has their issues.

I have found that it depends on what I go to the gym for whether I want to be alone or not.   If I am doing circuit training on the weight machines or swimming laps I mostly want people just to get out of my way so I can get it done without interuption but if it is a class I usually introduce myself and try to be an encourager in some way.  Last night I went to a new class for me caled begining Cardio that is a free class at the Y for members.  It was about 20 minutes of aerobics, 20 minutes of step and 20 minutes of weight/mat work.  It was a very intense workout for me.  If that is the beginner class I can't imagine what the regular Cardio class is like.  I really liked the class though and the teacher was great!!  I will definitely go back when I can.  I work 2nd shift so I don't make the afternoon/evening classes very often.

Well I'm off to do the weight machines.  Have a great day.

Well I just got back from the weight lifting class.  I really enjoy that class (and love the teacher), not to say it isn't work because it is, but it is just nice to think that I will be getting stronger.  Hopefully as I'm taking this class and losing weight I won't be losing muscle mass.  Hopefully my thinking is clear on that point.

Food has been good allthough trying to stay just below the rmr is a new concept to me.  Always before when I've been on a diet I have restricted my eating to about 1200 calories, so the thought of consuming up to 2000 just blows my mind.

My big thing this week is tackling my serious Diet Dr. Pepper addiction and replacing it with water (which is wonderful for bathing).  I got to figuring that I was drinking at least 10 or 12 12oz cans of DDP each and everyday.  Besides doing absolutely nothing beneficial for me it gets expensive.  I went to a lecture recently at work and a dietician was talking about the studies currently being done that are showing a link between excessive aspartame consumption and early onset Alzheimers.  I sure don't want that!  I've managed to get down to 2 or 3 per day and I'm thinking of it as a "treat" so it is replacing probably something worse.  Plus I've greatly increased my water consumption.  This has been quite the struggle and I am sure it will be ongoing.

I'm still waiting to get my new Tanita scale that measures body fat percent.  I ordered it on Jan 19 and it hasn't even been shipped yet.  I thought Amazon was quicker than this.  It is that instant gratification thing kicking in.  I WANT IT NOW!

Meanwhile I will continue to weigh just once a week on Sat. mornings before water aerobics at the Y.  I am looking forward to some number showing weight loss tomorrow.

I read on snopes . com that that aspartmae thing is just a myth, but who knows. You're right that it definitely doesn't do anything good, though. My addicition is diet pepsi and diet mountain dew. I love them! I decide to ban myslef from all soda for ten days and see if I could do it. The days down

So, anyway, i think that's great that you are trying to drink more water, that is one of my major failures.

Have a nice evening!

Hi everyone,

I just got back from water aerobics class and the big weigh in at the Y.  I was down 1 lb from a week ago.  Aren't we funny that a 1 lb loss just isn't enough to satisfy me.  I know I have been doing great in both the food and exercise departments but I only lost 1 lousy pound.  I figure I have been building muscle since I have been doing a weight lifting class 3 days a week.  I am sure I will get a more realistic idea of what is going on with me when I get the Tanita scale that measures body fat percentage.  Meanwhile I am going to keep on keeping on and doing what I have been doing.

I have 2 goals mini goals:

I want to lose another 14 pounds by April 13 a

And I am eyeing the weight of 255 because that is where I croosover from morbidly obese to obese.   Who would think someone would have the goal of being obese!!, but I am sure you all get it.

Weight on Jan 1, 2007 --- 305

Weight Today --- 297

Well I am off to pack a lunch for work.  I have to pack healthy foods because if I don't and just buy in the cafeteria at work I don't always make the right choices and am at their mercy as to what they are serving.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Well just finished a Long working weekend.  Got some exercise in on Saturday (water aerobics)  but nothing on Sunday.  I slept in and then it was time to go back to work.  I had problems with food when I got home from work and ate stuff I shouldn't have at midnight both Sat. and Sun.

Sat night it was the dreaded peanut butter.  pb on ritz followed by pb on pudding followed by pb on spoon.

Sunday I determined to do better.  My coworkers all ordered out Chinese but I passed on that because it didnt sound like crab ragoon was low cal.  Then after getting home I made scrambled eggs thinking it was a whole lot better than peanut butter but then I looked up the calories and fat in 2 scrambled eggs and was shocked at how much it was.  I've never tried egg beaters but may give them a shot.

I am so clueless.  You would think that by the time you are 55 years old and have raised a family you would know what is good for you and what isn't.

Still working on drinking water instead of ddp.  A constant struggle there.

I went to my weight lifting class this morning and tried to go up to 8 lb. weights for some of it but had to go  back to the 5 lb. ones when I got fatigued

Scoobees if you read this be assured you are in my prayers.

Congrats on the one pound loss! I know it doesn't seem like much, but it's so rewarding to know that you have burned off the fat th e right way, slowly, no fad diets or ridiculous expectations.

PB is a weakness of mine, it makes its way to a spoon if there is no bread or jelly in the house....ARGH but its SOOOOO good! (I use the Natural Smuckers Peanut Butter-Reduced Fat creamy-so tasty I like it better than anything else now!):yum: YUM!

Way to go on avoiding the Chinese food!! When I used to work for the State, my co-workers were going to be the death of me!! They ordered out EVERYday and it was NOTHING healthy!! Thanks for the prayers Patchers - they're very much appreciated! :rose:

Congrats on the pound loss! :shooting_star:  Your post sounds a lot like some of mine.  I always wanted more...and am working so hard and watching what I eat...I would get so aggravated at 'only' a one pound loss.  Then came the time I lost .5 pound.  Then came the time I didn't lose any.  THEN that one pound loss looked really, really good LOL!!  Now I truly appreciate it.  I hope you get your scale soon, then you'll be able to watch that body fat number go down too!!!  WooHoooooo!!

End of Month Report

January 2007

I thought I would do a little summing up of how things went regarding my fitness goals this month.  (The first month on this journey).   The how I am "feeling" report will follow the technical report.

Numbers wise I started at 305 lbs and ended with 297 lbs which translates into an 8 lb loss.

BMI from 47.8 to 46.5:smile:

Fat % (don't know until I get the @$#% scale!):crying:

I went from pretty much totally sedantary to at least 1 hour of dedicated exercise for approximately 25 of 31 days.:smile::smile:

I went from eating anything and everything in vast amounts to weighing, measuring and calculating what I was consuming and trying to stay close to my RMR in caloric intake.  I feel I did pretty good at control probably 27 or 28 days out of 31.

I've gone from a 10 to 12 can /day diet dr. pepper habit to 2 or 3 / day.

I've replaced the ddp with approximately 50 oz of WATER per day(Hoping to increase that!) .

I am  doing SOMETHING!  AND I AM TRYING!!!!!:star::smile:

End of Report

New month - New Quilt Avatar

Goals for February are to continue what I have been doing.  I'm starting at 297 and am aiming for 290 by the end of month.

I also hope to have a scale by the end of the month

Increase my weights I use during the weight lifting class at the Y.

Happy superbowl Sunday everyone!

I happen to really like football and since I am in Illinois am a huge Bears fan - so GO BEARS!

On the negative side there are going to be lots of munchies here plus hubby is planning on getting pizza.  This will be my first encounter with pizza since starting this on Jan 1.  I've been known to binge on it and absolutely don't want to deal with THAT today.  As far as munchies during the game I bought some fat free sour cream and am going to mix some onion soup mix with it to have a low cal dip for my carrot sticks!

As far as exercise I haven't done a thing all weekend.  Total slug.  It is SO cold here I haven't wanted to go outside.  I think todays windchill puts the temp around 15 below.  Tomorrow morning I will be back at it.  I think I just needed a weekend off.  So far the eating has been good this month.

Weight wise at the Y last Wednesday I weighed 297 and my old scale here at home gave that annoying OL message.  Now today I stepped on the old home scale and it gave me a number finally!!  Unfortunately the number was 298.  I know that isn't right though because the day I got the 297 at the Y I got the OL message at home.  I must have lost another pound or something to cross the weight threshold with the home scale.  I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to weigh at home even if the # is different/more than at the Y.  That is one of my goals met already to be in the weighing range of my old scale.  I've been out of range for quite a while and haven't cared until recently when I started this new lifestyle.  I still have the Tanita scale on order at Amazon and will look forward to monitoring my fat percentage since I am doing a lot of weight lifting which I am sure is affecting the actual scale numbers.  At least I hope that is what is going on.

Impatience-Impatience twas forever thus --- Patchers

 Go Bears!!!

Scale story - Now that I have finally got below 300 and my home scale has kicked in I was bummed out today when it still said 298.  The funny part of that is that I didn't have my glasses on (afterall they might add an oz. of weight).  After I put on my glasses the number was actually 296 which is a loss.  haha.  Blind as a bat without my specs.

Congrats Patchers!! Thats a 4 pound loss, right?!! Great job!! Gives you motivation to never enter the 300's again!! :yum: (this is me, sticking my tongue out at the 300's and yelling Nya,Nya,Nya, Nya, Nyaaa:music:)

By the way, I remove everything when weighing (even my wedding ring and engagement rings) so you're not alone. So what if you cant see the scale-the darn thing is going:down_arrow:! Yippee!
