Hi there. I guess I am the new kid on the block ;)
First of all, sorry for my poor English but I am not a native speaker.
Let me entroduce myself. My name is Elitsa, but as I have never heard English speaking people pronounce it correct, I will be just Ellie. I am 19 (20 in the end of September) and I am from Bulgaria (it's in South - Eastern Europe, hope you' ve heard of it :( )...I am 5'7 and I weight 64 kilos (I suppose it is kind of mmm...64 x 2.205, I don't have a calculator right now - 140 lb or something like that)...Um, here's my calculator - 141.
I know this doesn't sound that much but as most women I have trouble spots as thighs and belly. Actually, my thighs are HUGE.
Now, how did I end up like that. When I was 13, I used to be a fine young girl - no problem at all. Then - puberty, hormones, cravings, tons of chocolate, cookies and chips...and I gaines 10 kilos. Then, when I was 17, I got rid of most of them and I was back to 58 kilos, which was ok, I had 2 or 3 more to go, but they weren't that important - I DID LOOK WELL then. That's when I met my ex-boyfriend. He liked eating lots of junk food and as we were walking, we were constantly eating something (it's my fault, I know) and the result was that I regained the weight and I got to 65 kilos (143 lb). Then during the religios fast I went 4 kilos down to 61 (134.5 lb) but then the man I love (not my ex, it's another guy) died and I was so depressed that gained the weight again. Don't get me wrong, I was eating really small amounts of food, nearly starving and I don't know what happened - nerves or I don't know.
Anyway. This happened 2 months ago and I am still recovering. I had a terribly difficult sequence of exams (18), because I study journalism and opera stage - directing at the same time. I now have decided to do something about myself, something that will really make me happy and proud - lose the ****ing weight. Once and for all, really. I have enough problems, to keep constantly thinking about weight and weight loss.
My general aim is to lose 8 kilos (that's nearly 18 lb) and the second aim is to do that till 25 - 26th of September (on 27th September is my birthday and I really, really want and NEED to look great in order to feel at least a little bit better. I don't know if you could understand me).
I don't have any special plan. I don't like fitness or exercises, but I love walking, so I will walk as much as possible, cut out the white flour and try to eat only dark chocolate (I can't do without it), drink plenty of water (3 liters or more) and avoid eating after 7 p.m. (the last one really works for me). The best part of it is that I really don't feel like eating in the summer and I eat mostly fruit, vegetables and sometimes brown bread and cheese (rarely enough). The dark chocolate is necessary for my psycological health at least 3 - 4 times per week, believe me. Mmmm....what else....I think that should work - after all, I have almost nine weeks for 8 kilos and that's my ultimate goal. I will be happy if I can get below 60 till then, so that's the other option and I think it's the more realistic one.5 kilos in 8 weeks, or, if possible, 8 kilos in 8 weeks.
Ok, that's all for now, sorry for the long post, but I am new here and decided you should know as much as possible. Bye for now, I will appreciate all comments and advice. Good luck, guys! Last edited on 21 July 2005 12:06 pm by Ellie

Hi Ellie-
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your boyfriend. That must be very difficult for you. I hope you have the support you need get through the grieving process. You said you do not like exercise, but you like walking. Well honey, what do you think walking is? If you like walking, then walk! You can go for a 30 minute walk a day or break it down to 3 - 10 minutes throughout the day! You can do this. You have to get some physical activity in there somewhere. You said you want to lose 18 pounds in nine weeks. I do think that is possible. "They" say it is good to lose 1-2 pounds a week, so if you lose 2 pounds a week for nine weeks that is exactly 18 pounds!!! Just keep up the exercise and the healthy eating. You can have the chocolate you talk about, just make sure it is a small amount and not several candy bars, several times a week:D. After you get the weight off, keep up the walking and monitor your intake and you will keep it off. Good luck to you.

Oh, about the walking...maybe it is really different here in Bulgaria and in the Western World, because a 30 minute walk here is simply no walk at all (at least for the young people). When at home (because I study in the capital but come from a smaller town), I walk all the time. I usually come home only to sleep or have a meal. When I walk alone, I do it pretty fast, when with friends, we are just strolling but we are still walking.
Now I live in the capital which, actually, is really awful, and dirty, and noisy and....blah! That's why I prefer to stay at my flat as long as possible. But I had to start work for a month (I started 3 days ago) and the place where I work is not very near - in fact, it's 2.5 - 3 kilometers away from my flat but I still prefer to walk the distance, rather than go by bus (busses are hot, dirty and overcrouded this time of the year). What is more, with the money for the bus fair for one week, I can go to the theatre for example (lov' doing that).
So, that's 5 - 6 kilometers per day, besides that I live on the 7th floar and there is no elevator in the building. You can imagine that I don't go out only once per day, but usually at least 2 or 3 times, I also use the stairs at University and work but I still don't think it's enough. However, I do not have the time to do more walking - I wake up, get ready and go to work. Then I work until 5 - 6 p.m. and I go back home, take my Mom for a short walk (at a slow pace), we buy groceries and stuff like that, go back home, prepare dinner, have a meal and go to bed, watching TV (or go to the theatre). So, tell me, where else could I squeeze more time for walks (or exercise, but I hate this word) - I don't even have a lunchbreak - we have lunch at the office. Oh, please, don't suggest to get up earlier - 7 a.m. is early enough for me (when at my hometown I usually get up at 6 - 6. 30 and I am ready to go - we have the loveliest park there, in fact, it's a part of a mountain).
Well, I guess that's it. Want to walk more, have no time for doing it and no pleasure when doing it (becaude the streets are crowded and noisy and dirty and hateful and....grrrrrrrr) Tell me what to do, pls!
