I'm ready to try anything! I've never done any "online" chat, etc. so let me know if I am not doing this correctly. Is this for listing what I eat every day with the calories, etc?
My Goal weight is 135 lbs. I am currently 196, so I have a long way to go! I have lost 60 pounds at a time twice in the last 5 years, but, guess what, gained it back. I just tossed all my size 12 clothes, figuring that if (WHEN) I get back there I can buy a whole new wardrobe! I am in my mid 50s, I have started biking to work (7 miles round trip) but I haven't gotten my speed up high enough to "count" on the calculator. But I don't lie gasping for breath anymore, and I actually look forward to it. I haven't biked for two days as the weather is 100+ now and it is too hot for me.
I will go out and buy that book, Eat to Live. I am aiming at 1200 calories per day with lots of walking and some biking as exercise. I don't do much else other than normal house cleaning, gardening, etc.
So far today - 500 calories, 20 grams of protein and 10 grams of fiber. Should I be tracking fat grams too? I'm doing it on Excel, but can it be done on this website? that would be more convenient.
Sorry for all the ?s! This website really looks like it will be a big help for me. Thanks!!

Hello and welcome,
You can use this forum any way you like... it's for sharing on a regular basis. Please see the first post which explains it a bit.
I think you'll learn a lot from the book. I certainly did. Changed my life.
You can calculate calories daily with my site, then keep track of the day's total with Excel... or anyway you like. Tracking calories is just a tool to learn to eat well... not the end solution. But it can be helpful when you need it.
Fiber is extremely important for health AND weight loss -- see the FAQ on it -- and my calculator shows fiber too to help you choose more high fiber foods. But if you eat at all like the book recommends, highly nutritious, low calorie foods, you certainly will be getting plenty of fiber!
I wish you success and look forward to following your progress.
Peter

Thank you for your welcome, and for this site! I have HIGH hopes!
I may be jumping the gun since I haven't read all the info available on this site, but I know how I am about eating and food. I've always heard that eating later in the day or evening is B-A-D...but that's when i want to eat! I'm always snacking, stuffing, binging then. If I saved some of my daily nutrition needs for later in the day when habit and hunger have been my downfall in the past, I think I can eliminate one big block to achieving my goal. Any thoughts?

| I can't believe it's been over a week already - I'm a lousy diary keeper! I haven't gotten the book, I haven't weighed myself, but I did throw out all my size 12s. And I'm taking all the clothes that don't fit out of my closet and putting them away, so that I can see how little I actuaally can fit into. I've asked my kids to help me with my snacking by reminding me I don't want to do that - but I've been mean back! When I have a craving, my mind has said Yes before I even consciously consider it. Bad! More later

Learning to take care of yourself can be a long process. Be grateful for the baby steps and don't get too discouraged!
