Hooray for you Scoobs. It feels great to be able to turn hubby's head, doesn't it. I'm working on being the trophy wife, since he's not allowed to have another wife! LOL.

My weighted hand gloves came. I LOVE THEM!!! I can't get over how much they work my core. All the cross punches and the capoiera stuff is totally turbo'd with the gloves.

I have another round of clothes for donation, too. I think they're going to go to Cornerstone Manor. It's a battered women's shelter locally. I bet they would love some of my barely-worn transitional clothes. I haven't even had enough time in some of the clothes to get them dirty.:dog:

:shooting_star:Exercise:  turbo jam Cardio Party 2 w/weighted gloves

:apple:Calorie Intake:  1997 (zig zag higher calorie day)

I started the work day really pumped up...I think I was still on my 'shopping high' from the weekend .  Totally wore myself out by evening LOL.  Did NOT wanna work out but I thought about the scale...and those couple pounds I lost...and then I also remembered it's my zig zag higher calorie day  - I GOTTA work out~!

The workout itself was great...I gave it all I had to give.   For some reason I just don't enjoy cardio party 2 as much as the others.  Maybe the combos are just not as fun; I'm not sure.  That's not to say it's not effective - I got a great workout in...must be the fun factor...?

So far it's been my experience that I have a really hard time eating enough on the higher calorie days...I do - but then I feel a little too full.  I thought at first it might just be guilt over the higher calorie amounts; but I don't think so...I end up eating a bit too much later in the day to hit my mark and it's probably just too much for that time of the evening.

When I noticed there were two dvds scheduled for today...my motivation kinda sunk.  But by the end of the sculpting dvd I was pretty pumped up and then I made it thru the cardio dvd with flying colors.

Gotta grab something to eat...:pizza:

:shooting_star:Exercise:  60 min. elliptical trainer

 :apple:Calorie Intake:  1507

Have I mentioned how much I dislike the days that my workout doesn't include Turbo Jam?? LOL  I try hard to mix up the workouts...don't want to do the same thing all the time, but the fun factor really goes down.  The last 15 min on the elliptical tonight almost felt like torture.  My hubs came home during this time and he can definitely vouch for that LOL!  Huffing...puffing...moaning...is it over yet???  If it wasn't for the music on my ipod I honestly would have been toast.

I have been toying with the idea of having a cheat day or a cheat meal once a week.  It used to work for me in the past when I lost all that weight, but for some reason I've been unable to control it this time.  Maybe this would be setting myself up for failure, I'm not sure.  I've not had an extra bite that wasn't planned out since Labor Day...over a month ago.  Hubs is giving me a little grief every now and then because he remembers the old days when I used to allow myself that day of cheating.  He would always ask me what day it was gonna be and then we would plan out where to go.  I'm not saying he's sabotaging me in any way - he's totally in my corner - but he really misses some of the buffet-type restaurants we used to go to.  I cannot be trusted in that kind of place, ever LOL!  I truly will eat-all-you-can-eat.

Anyway, I noticed quite a few months ago that when I did schedule a splurge day (usually Fri or Sat) it would turn into a splurge weekend that would sometimes even run into Monday!  I paid for it dearly as I would have to exercise my butt off all week long FOR NOTHING.  Just to break back even.  I really must have that all-or-nothing mentality going on.    Then I was thinking about just a cheat MEAL this time, once a week.  But again, I'm afraid I'd go off the deep end.  I just don't want to screw this up as I am now half-way to goal.

I guess I'd better give this more serious thought first.  Any opinions are always appreciated!  Forgive the ramblings of a tired, old, hungry woman!

Scoobees,

I have the same problem with a cheat meal turning into a cheat weekend.   Or at least, I used to.    I've found I do best if I plan it and make sure I am clear in my mind that it is only one meal.....one.....and then get back on plan.    I don't try to figure out calories, etc. on it, I just try to totally enjoy it and no guilt.    Then get back on plan.   I also make sure it is my last meal of the day.    Something psychological about starting a "new day" and then my body can't be sending craving signals to my mouth and hands for the rest of the day.    I go to bed and start over in the morning.    Something about giving myself permission to do it....no guilt.....I think helps.                                   Hisgal

Thanks Hisgal for the advice.  I especially like the part about making the cheat meal the last meal of the day.  Then I won't be so tempted to get carried away for the entire day.  I will give this some serious thought.  Possibly on my zig zag higher calorie day I could incorporate a cheat meal every now and then.  Thanks again!

:shooting_star:Exercise:  turbo jam Booty Sculpt dvd + Punch Kick & Jam dvd

 :apple:Calorie Intake:  1502

I was really looking forward to tonight's workout because Punch Kick & Jam is my favorite of the Turbo Jam dvds.  But my legs were really sore from last night's hour on the elliptical, and then I did the Booty Sculpt dvd which focuses on the lower body - so by the time I got to the cardio dvd my legs were feeling like lead weights LOL.  I was sooo disappointed because that one never fails to pump me up.  So, I kinda feel like I got a #%@&! workout in...I guess it was a little much when you're sore.  I can't wait till it's on the schedule again...I'll make sure I'm in better condition LOL.

Today was supposed to be my zig-zag higher calorie day - but I chickened out because I weigh-in tomorrow morning...my bad.  I just couldn't do it; I'll have my higher day tomorrow AFTER I hit the scale.  Also, thinking of having a cheat meal in the evening tomorrow...it's been sooo long.  I guess I'll wait and see what the scale says first.  :pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza:

Good luck with the weigh-in!  You have exercised a lot  and cut calories so I am sure you will be happy with the results--

Regarding the Cheat Day---The only thing I will say that you need to know yourself and what you can and can not do to keep on track.  My "planned cheat day" turns into a cheat month and I miss exercising and eat like there is no tomorrow.  Then my cycle of losing then gaining again begins. One ill fated cheat day/meal could erase all your weekly progress if not careful.  Just ask yourself if this food is that important.  That is what I try to do. Let me know how this works for you.

I have big issues with food.  I need to avoid it whenever possible and the situations that cause me to eat aimlessly, especially the junk.  Since I tend to always overeat I need only healthy stuff and even that I overeat but the results are not as devastating.  GOOD LUCK!!!--I pod helps with the elliptical.  But soon you will learn to love it with or without the tunes!!

Thanks for the advice, Dondi.  We are alot alike when it comes to food.  I USED to be able to have cheat days  once a week with no problems.  But this time around it seems to turn into a food fest for the entire weekend.  And sometimes into Monday.

This time I was considering just one cheat meal every couple weeks.  But, as you can tell, I am a bit nervous about it.  That's probably a sign NOT to do it.  I've been having great progress with the weight loss and don't want it to end.  I guess I just have to know if I can trust myself enough to have a MEAL and end it there.

And about the elliptical - I would NEVER be able to do it without the tunes LOL!  Even at the gym I would have my tunes blasting.  I've had one here at the house for quite a few years, but I just don't enjoy the elliptical in the same way as my turbo jam dvds.  It's better than my bike, though LOL!!

:heart:Thanks guys for your kind words and continued support - it means a lot to me!

Well, I went and did it.  I had a cheat meal last night.  I haven't ate more than 50 calories over my budget since I don't know when...ages.  I just wanted to have one stinkin' dinner that I could just eat and not worry about calories.  Hubs worked late so we nixed going out...and ended up at Taco Bell:shock:.  Wow, when you haven't ate junk in awhile - perhaps not the best choice LOL!

So, I ended up with a grilled stuffed steak burrito and 2 grilled steak soft tacos!  OMG!  I was in taste bud heaven!  Let me tell ya, I savored every bite because I knew I wouldn't be doing this again for awhile.  I was surprised that I didn't feel ill for quite awhile.  I ate a serving or two of BBQ chips afterwards during the movie, and then after a bottled water and a cup of coffee on top - I started not feeling so well LOL!  My tummy was stretched beyond it's usual limits.  I felt so full that I could feel it up into my throat LOL.

I woke up this morning totally dehydrated.  I've never been so thirsty in my life!  I guess that grease did a number on me.

And I do admit, I had the urge this morning to start cheating again.  THAT'S what I was afraid of initially.  I didn't know whether I could trust myself with stopping at just a cheat meal...and not turning the whole weekend into a food-fest.  I grabbed a bottled water, had my usual breakfast and am brushing all thoughts of cheating out of my mind.  I think I have it under control.  It's a scary thing...I don't ever want to lose control to food ever again...been there done that WAY too many times.  If I can handle this, there's a possiblity I'll try a cheat meal again someday - maybe a couple times a month; I'll have to wait and see.

Anyway, with the regular calories I ate thru the day plus the Taco Bell calories and the potato chips - that brought me to about 2650 yesterday!  Considering my maintenance is around 1900 - OOps LOL.  Well, it WAS my zig zag high day...but I guess that's a little extreme eh?  Could I add the old 'at least I exercised' part?  I guess I probably shouldn't have counted calories if I was having a cheat meal anyway...but I wanted to know how much damage I really did.

OWF - I get the smilies from clicksmilies.com, they have loads!

Congrats on the weight loss!!! Doesn't it feel good to be so close to that next number group.  I group my numbers together 340's-330's etc.  It makes you work so much harder. Once you reach a new group you want to make sure you never enter the old group again and work really hard for the next lower group!

I think you should count your calories on a cheat day, just to make sure you keep it real.  you do not want 2900 to turn into 5000.  It sounds like that would be hard to do, but I can say it is pretty easy.  Just keep your goal in mind.

Doesn't the forbidden foods taste so much better when you haven't had them for such a long time?  It makes all this hard work worth it.  The flavors just explode more than ever. YUM YUM--

Keep it up!!!  Get in the 160's!!

Thanks Dondi, it sure does feel great to keep reaching that next lower number group!  I was so excited when the scale didn't read in the 200s anymore; the 190s felt good - but I've been there too many times to get too excited; the 180s made me just a bit happier; the 170s make me do the happy dance; and just thinking about the 160s are unreal.  It just boggles my mind that this is really happening.

But, back to the bad stuff.  I cannot allow myself to try another 'cheat meal'; at least not for a long time.  It was sort of an experiment for me to see if I could handle it, and unfortunately the answer is no.  I am just not strong enough at this point.  I had bad cravings all the next day (yesterday).  I was able to fight them off until late in the evening when I totally caved.  Hubs & I were up too late watching a movie - I had no clue 'King Kong' was 3 hours long!!! - and I lost the battle to hubs' peanut butter cookies and bbq chips.

Of course I had a #%@&! day today.  The feelings of anger...feeling like a real loser; beating myself up, etc.  Yep, the old habits come back real quickly.  I don't want to go here again.  With my all-or-nothing personality I just can't handle a cheat meal.  All I can hope for is that my failure doesn't negate any weight loss this week.

Lesson learned.

If there's one thing I've learned from being a part of this forum, it's that each of us is different.  We have different personalities, different strengths and weaknesses - and so we need different approaches.  I find it really interesting really... how much the personalities shine through in these diaries!
Your progress is UNSTOPPABLE, despite this teeny little learning experience!

Thank you Trimblebe - and I know you're right.  Each of us are different...and need different approaches.  I will just chalk it up to a rough learning experience, shake it off and get back on the ole horse again. :horse::grin::grin:

And that's exactly what I did...of course I wasn't able to fit exercise in until 9:00 this evening...but I did it nevertheless.  I really dislike exercising so late in the evening.  Not as much energy left to give...but I tried.  Now I'm totally wound up before bed LOL.

Slowly coming out of my depression about last weekend's overindulgence.  Generally feeling tired...kinda feels like I'm coming down with a cold or something.  Sniffles.  Taking in fluids big time...doses of Emergen C, etc.  Don't wanna get sick!  Ugh.

Excellent workout this evening!  This time I had the energy to really kick it into high gear for my favorite dvd.  Awesome.  I also love the capoeira segment in it - totally rocks!

I rushed all through the evening so I get home and get done with exercise in time to watch The Biggest Loser LOL.  Don't ask why I watch this show - I don't know!!  I just cannot believe how fantastic the voted off contestant (Amy?) looks now!  OMG...she's lost something like 88 pounds total!  Absolutely gorgeous girl! :rainbow:

I'm already getting nervous about Saturday's weigh-in.  I swear, if my eating blunder this past weekend screws me up...I'm going to be even madder at myself.  Please, just give me ONE little pound loss and I'll be happy!!  Purty please??

Saturday - weigh in day

I am sooo thankful.  One pound loss.  Whew!  I was SO worried after last weekend's bad slip-up with food that I might end up with a big fat zero loss - or even a gain.  But I have to admit I watched my calories the whole week like a hawk and exercised like a crazy person each day...again...Whew!  I will not try a cheat meal/day again until I am way closer to goal or maintenance.  Too many food issues LOL!

Ok...let me update my weight loss tracker now...something I LOVE to do LOL.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I had a great workout for a change on the elliptical, the time actually flew by.  Rare.  I think I was still pretty much on an emotional high over the one pound loss LOL.  And over catching Hubs with that smile on his face again; he's so happy for me.  Keeps calling me his 'little woman'.  This cracks me up totally.  Far from little, but I'll take it!  :rainbow:

:shooting_star:Exercise: 66 min cardio from Exercise TV programs

 :apple:Calorie Intake:  1440

Today I was in the mood to try something different as far as exercise goes.  My cable company offers various 'free on demand' channels in which you can select movies, music videos, etc and be able to stop, pause, rewind them.  I checked out a few of the programs offered on Exercise TV and they were pretty decent.  I did 3 of them; all were various lengths...the best was one with Tamilee Webb (remember her? buns of steel - tighter assets?). Hers incorporated some plyometrics and cardio blasts which was really cool.  Another one was from The Method - it was ok but not as fun.  In the last one I haven't a clue who these people were (LOL) but it was only 12 min and fun!  All kicks like turbo jam.  I wore my heart rate monitor and for the 66 min it says I burned 510 calories - not bad!  My heart rate was pretty high...especially higher when you are not so familiar with the routines.  I might try that again someday.

Today was the first day we fired up our woodburner.  I am sweltering in here LOL.  We bought it last year and tried to burn it as much as possible so we could use the furnace less and less.  It's actually very mesmerizing...I could sit in front of it all day with a cup of coffee and stare into the flames LOL.  Anyway, my dilemma is that it's in the dining room corner and I exercise in the living room just a matter of feet away.  It's now 84 degrees in here!  Ugh.  I guess I stoked it a tad too much eh? It took me 2 bottles of water to get thru that exercise routine! I guess I'm going to have to find a happy medium in here.  Hey, wait...if it's like a sauna in here - do I burn more calories?? Melt away more fat??  Just kidding LOL!!

I LOVE this !!! Thanks again OWF!!

I'm so glad you mentioned that you have a heart rate monitor that tell you calories burned!!  I hope you won't mind if I ask you a question regarding that...
I've been trying to get a fairly accurate estimation of calories burned during my TJ workouts.  The activity calculator on this site (for "aerobics") seems like it might be too low.  I know that calories burned depends on weight, age, etc.  But maybe you could compare the activity calculators estimates for you versus what your heart rate monitor says?!?  Is the activity calculator fairly accurate or is it an underestimation?

Trimblebe - that's a great question.  I've honestly never compared my heart rate monitor readings to the activity calculator here.  I've actually never used the activity calculator here at all LOL!  I will definitely wear the monitor tonight for Cardio Party 3 and see what it says verses the calculator here and let you know what I come up with.

Skipper - thanks!  And glad you're back!!!

Monday

:shooting_star:Exercise:  turbo jam Lower Body Jam + Cardio Party 3 w/weighted gloves

:apple:Calorie Intake:  1920 (zig zag higher calorie day)

It was another exhausting Monday - what else is new?  Really late workout this evening, yikes.

For Trimblebe - I remembered to wear the HR monitor and used it during Cardio Party 3.  This might not have been the best dvd to use for judging the calories burned; it's a great 50 min. workout - but the last 10 min are basically a cool down & stretch.  So I plugged the numbers into the activity calculator here with both time lengths.

My HR monitor says I burned 378 for the whole 50 min.

Using the 'general aerobics' category for 50 min = 418

Using the 'general aerobics' category for 40 min = 334

(using my weight of 170 lbs)

I looks like this calculator is pretty accurate for turbo jam; I'm guessing if cardio party 3 would have been a full 50 min cardio session I would have burned closer to that 418 amount.  Next time I do cardio party 1 I'll try the same experiment.

Thanks for doing that little test for me.  Maybe the workout seemed more difficult the first time, because I was still learning the moves.  What a handy little heart rate monitor!!

No problem at all Trimblebe.  I will try it next time with cardio party 1 and see what kind of numbers I get.  I was pretty exhausted but I tried to give full effort during that workout - I'm sure that could have effected the numbers, too.

Wednesday

:shooting_star:Exercise:  Rest day

 :apple:Calorie Intake:  1463

I decided to take an unplanned rest day from exercise.  I just couldn't muster the strength to even change into my workout clothes.  I think my body may be trying to tell me something - and I haven't been listening.  I think I've been pushing myself a bit too hard this month.  It's easy to do though.  You see the scale go down each week, you get excited, and you want to see more progress again and again.  So I've been trying harder and harder.  Lately at work I've felt like a zombie, very easily irritated, and so sluggish when I get home.  I keep forcing myself to exercise because I know I need to, and feel guilty when I don't.  But I looked at my calendar (I record every single workout on it) and noticed that I've only missed 2 days of exercise this month...well, you can make that 3 now LOL.  Sometimes I get so obsessed with losing weight that I forget a day of rest is important, too.

So, after I post this...my feet are up...and watching The Biggest Loser.

I cant believe they voted Ken off!!! What did you think Scoobees?? I love him!!! He is calm, hard working, dedicated, and peaceful and looks like he has love in his heart.

Gosh, the Biggest Loser gets me sucked in every time! HOW do they lose 6-16 lbs a week??????????? Is it healthy? How can it be? Are they slowing their metabolisms down? Also, are they dehydrated? I think they must be by now.

I know!! Poor Ken!  He totally knew he was going; he would have been gone earlier if he didn't win immunity.  Them girls were just itching to get rid of him.  He has such a huge heart, I felt really bad for him...but did you see how much weight he lost total???  Whoa! He lost 68 lbs there - and another 70-something after he left!!! Holy :cow:!!!!!!!!!  He's a new man!

Awesome workout tonight.  Hubs was home while I was working out so I really gave it my all LOL! :shooting_star:  My favorite workout, too.

Edited to add...I asked hubs later on in the evening what he thought about my workout.  Here I was pushing it full tilt trying to be all cool, etc. and he said - you have the wimpiest uppercut I've ever seen.

That booger. He loves to tease me; I shoulda uppercutted him with those weighted gloves on LOL!!!

I really had to push myself through the workout tonight; my other knee is now getting just as bad.  I've just GOT to get the rest of this weight off before I fall apart from injuries LOL.  No fun trying to live on ibuprophen just to get thru exercise.  It's been helping at least.

I totally felt like an episode of The Biggest Loser tonight with the 'last chance workout' motto before weighing in.  The last 15 min were dragging and I kept thinking 'last chance, last chance!!!' as tomorrow morning is my date with my beloved (NOT!) scale.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!!

Saturday

WEIGH-IN DAY - Down 1.5 pounds this week!:grin::shooting_star::shooting_star:

I am so thrilled - I reached the 160s!!!!!!!!!!!  Ok, so it's 169 (LOL) but it's still the 160s!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about being motivated! I even bought a more fancy scale last weekend that monitors not only body fat %, but also body water %, muscle mass, and bone mass.  It's awesome.  I know they can't be completely accurate, but at the very least it gives me numbers to compare each week.  Me and my gadgets. My son came home for a quick visit from college and tried it out today.  He's really into bodybuilding and gaining lean muscle mass and it said he had 11.9% body fat.  He was guessing he was somewhere around 10-12% so it actually might be fairy accurate.

Anyway...I'm very happy with today's weigh in and so excited to be in the 160s.  It's funny, I almost feel like a normal person - whatever that means!  And now with the holidays coming, it really gives me more incentive to keep it up; getting together with family members you haven't seen in awhile, etc.  I want them to be shocked!  And I just found out that we have a wedding to go to in December.  I want to be able to buy a really rockin' outfit and shock that side of the family, too LOL.

Come on 150s!!!

Way to go Scoobees! It is great to see the scale drop into a new "decade".

I think we could compare uppercuts. My husband mocks my punches, too. He asked what I was aiming for with my hooks. I think I do a nice job with my hooks. I agree with Chalene that they're my favorite. Oh well. One of these days when he's least expecting it...Kapow!

My girls love all your Scooby stuff! We went to a Haloween party today. They had a "haunted hallway". It was really dark & creepy with all kinds of folks in masks and sinister costumes. The girls screamed the entire hall way. J. climbed up me literally in terror. When we were done, Hubby said, "Now you know how Shaggy and Scooby feel going into haunted houses." They both agreed no amount of Scooby snacks would get them to go through the hallway again. *tee hee* So cute.:dog:

Thank you Skipper & OWF for always cheering me on - I really appreciate it!

I'm still laughing about the punches.  I really thought I was looking tough LOL!  Oh well, I sure do put enough ooomph in them anyway.  With the weighted gloves on I don't want to hyperextend and end up with elbow problems, too.  Yikes!

Hubs walked in during 'Fat Blaster' this evening and I warned him he was gonna get popped if he made fun again...yeah, he was scared LOL.  He actually watched and listened.  I'm glad he really got to see just what I do for exercise.  He thinks Chalene is really funny.  And the cool music.  I think he really understands why I enjoy turbo jam so much.

I love your 'haunted hallway' story Skipper!!  How cute! No amount of Scooby Snacks to go thru there again LOL!  I would love to dress up as Scooby at work this year - the kids would go nuts!  But the costumes I've found are sooo hot and I really have a lot of running around to do at work...I'd probably pass out.

Anyway, on to the business stuff...
