I've been working out now for two weeks. So far it is going well. I'm totally out of shape (unless pear is a shape). I'm now documenting my eating habits. Still 6'1" hovering at 198.

Sticking to my meal schedule. Slipped a little by grabbing a few (baker's dozen) cookies. Hitting the gym every other day. 30 minutes of cardio followed by weight training. No beer in a week.  :(  Time will tell.

A friend turned 40 this weekend, so I skipped on the diet. Too much beer, liqour and junk food. Also got sunburned on the lake. Oh I'm going to suffer on monday.

Monday wasn't so bad 30 min on the cycle and medium leg weight workout. No goodies in between meals. Holding steady at 198lbs. Still no snacking.... oh the pressure. :chew:

Hi Mustang12 -

When you work out, do you go 'general'?   Or do you concentrate on one muscle group?

I ask, because I used to do what you're doing and it didn't help me.   I concluded that I wasn't giving my muscles long enough to recover, therefore they never expanded, so didn't burn any increased calories...

(Now I do one group a day. Much better - for me).

I try to limit the amount I eat. I've all but cut out the snacking. I do at least 30 minutes of cardio (usually a stationary bike) followed by concentrating on a particular muscle group. I held fast today and although I ate hot wings I did not snack.

I've done well this week w/o the snacking. Tempted, but holding firm. I've been averaging 197lbs in the am weight in. The waist doesn't seem to be shrinking yet. I have to keep in mind that it took more than a day to put it on... duh, it will take at least twice that to come off.

Current: 197lbs, waist 40"

Goal: 178lbs, waist 33" :D

i was just talking to my friend about that!  Its amazing how easy (not work at all) it is to put on weight, but taking it off u gotta bust ur @ss to do it!  I told him we should reinvent food.....make it so it doesnt store the rest on ur body as fat.....he told me we would be gazillionaires...i know those dont exist....but if i could make food do that, i would be the 1st gazillionaire ever!  DREAMS!  good luck...push yourself hard!  you can do it!

The weekends usually are my off days and I slip a little on snacks. I try to keep to my no snacking unless it is fruit or veggie. This week is going to be tough, I'm headed out of town and will be off my usual schedule.

Anybody have any helpful tips on when is the best time to weight yourself? I've heard in the am. My weight bounces + or - 10lbs depending on the time I'm weighed.

Best time for weighing for most people is straight out of bed.   You haven't eaten for however many hours, have probably just used the WC and are in as close as you get to 'repeatable' condition.

Consider buying a cheap skinfold caliper, though.   They give a better indication of where you are, and it doesn't matter what time of day you use them.   Even if you've just eaten or are retaining more water, it doesn't affect the fat between the jaws of that little plastic caliper.

Works for me - and has done for years.

Thank goodness the 4th of July holiday is over. I definitely overindulged this this. I was out of town and had lots of beer and BBQ. Time to put my nose to the grindstone and get back to my routine. :dizzy:

I've eaten mostly vegetables the last few days. I feel bloated and gassy. How can this be good? My stomach is a balloon and it hurts to bend over. No weight gain though. Cardio bike is getting boreing, need to liven it up.

Changed from sit down stationary bike to upright bike. Change ups will make biking less boring. Have cut portions and am hungry all the time. Still bloated and gassy.

Bike riding going well as is the medium weight training. The weight is stagnant at 198. Hard to cut my portions when I'm always hungry. Had lab/blood work done. Cholesterol was 245  Calcium was out of range as well. All else good ranges. I'm starting an oatmeal breakfast and cutting back on the fatty foods. I'll get a rework in Sept.

I've been riding that bike so much my rear end is killing me. Level 6 for 30 minutes. I'm so hungry all of the time. I'd eat cardboard just to eat. Weight is the same. I need motivation to do more exercise(s).

I'm eatting more veggies and fruits than I ever have in the past. I am cutting down on the snacks like Doritos and candies. Reducing my portion sizes as well. Today was busy in the gym, all bikes were taken. Elliptical was an A** kicker for 30 minutes. But I was feeling good. I got some ab work along with shoulders and pull ups. I was sore.

I seemed to be gaining weight. I'm a constant 200lbs:dizzy: every morning now. I've been doing the bike or elliptical every other day. My stamina is good, if only my motivation was as good.

I'm sidelined right now. Had to get an epidural steroid injection for my sciatic nerve. Wow, the shot caused more pain than the nerve. Of course this was after the valium wore off. I should be back at the gym in the next day or two.

Whoa, rode a "Real" bike yesterday for the first time in nearly two years. Man is that different from the ole stationary bike in the gym. At least in the gym you don't have to watch out for traffic. lol

Weight is now below 200 on average. Still a long way to go. I'm taking the month of Sept off work and devoting to getting into better shape.

For those who don't know, I was deployed with my National Guard unit to Iraq in 2004-2005. I had a severe back injury which required two surgeries to repair. Being laid up for 11 months put the lb's on. I am getting released from active duty this month and will return to civilian life in Oct 06. Therefore I can take the month of Sept off.

Mine was over 250 and I got it down 109 points in 9 weeks on the Eat to Live plan, or something pretty close to it. My doctor wanted my on meds; I chose healthy food instead.

I hope you do well, too.

Mustang,

I've got the same story as Peter, in that respect.   My cholesterol was back up to 230 at my previous years' physical.     I had been eating a lot of meat and fat in that year.     My physical was coming up, so I started Eat To Live 7 weeks before my physical.    When I had my physical, I was down to 164 for total cholesterol.    My bad chol. dropped from 161 to 95!     Triglycerides were at 45, yes 45!    At one point they were at 298:shock:

Thanks for the advice. I'm just started to cut way back on my fats and empty calories. Watching the cab's as well. I've been able to maintain 197lbs and working on cardio more. The weight lifting was actually aggrevating my neck and hands. I've slowed on the weights and am going to up the cardio.

197 lbs this morning. Holding steady. Stationary bike was a lot better than the "Real" bike. Worked on shoulders, triceps, and abs. My "Six pack" is hidden by a case. I still break down with the "munchies" at night. Bad very bad. I need more Will power.

Computer died and now I've found caloriesperhour forum board again. I'm steady at 191lbs. Hitting the gym three times a week for cardio and weight training. My flexibility is getting better too. I've been stretching really well before each workout and it has made a big difference.

A little over one month since last entry. Workout routine is in full swing again. iPod nano added. Tunes keep me rollin' when doing cardio. Weight training focused on shoulders and arms. Diet: cutting out sodas, candy, chips, and lowering coffee. I'm a big coffee addict, so this might hurt. No caffine teas are going to take the place of the cafe I cut. If I could only cut out watching the Food Network..... mmmmm so hungry.:chewing:
